Thanks for the tip. I did what you suggested, but also what I did for the bottom was fold the gutter guard in half . It's stiff enough to hold stuff from falling out. It worked out well.
I thought I was the only one who walked into Lowe’s saying, “ I don’t know what I’m looking for but I will know when I find it.” Thank you for saving me and hour or two.
Very nice mod! Thanks for posting this. I am going with this idea! One word of advise: Remove those self tapping galvanized screws one at a time and replace with aluminum pop rivets. Because the steel screw and the galvanized coating mixed with the aluminum bed extender is a perfect combination for dissimilar corrosion. The aluminum being the softest of the three metals will loose the battle first. If ya want to keep the metal screws permanently, a wet seal must be used to keep 100% of any moisture from getting to the contact areas of the screws and aluminum.
I just had my husband put the bed extender on my 2019 Chevy 3500 high country. Then I came across your video and told my husband to do the same. Great idea guy. Thanks.
Saw your video. Installed the mod today. Followed step for step and got the exact same materials. I had to pre drill the holes but after that they ran right in. Thanks again.
Just got my AMP HD Extender. What a GREAT idea! I'm headed to Lowes tomorrow! You should patent the idea and let one the many extender companies make an offer to buy your idea. I could see some real interest in this by these companies. I would. Best 👍🏻
This is a great idea, I just picked up the same mesh material from Home Depot and will be doing the same thing to my bed extender on my Nissan Frontier, thanks.
Had one of these, ended up just replacing it with a couple of tow ropes from Walmart to secure a load. This extender is good to have until you need to load something large that extends past your bed then this just becomes something extra to lug around. Mesh idea was cool though.
Live this and adding the TRD badging was a nice touch! I’d actually be tempted to used pop rivets instead of self tapping screws for an even cleaner look but yeah. Nice work
Would a pop rivet head be able to hold against the uneven surface of the mesh? I know almost nothing about rivets but I have generally seen them used for two flat surfaces.
@@jameszollinger3946If you had to they make washers for the rivets that could be put on then spray painted after installation. Great add on for sure. 😎👍
Excellent idea. Looks great with the TRD badge. Also like how the mesh closes off the box and adds a "tinted" look so you cant plainly see what crap your trying to haul from behind.
Just purchased some of these grills to put on my extender. Thinking about placing some to fill in that gap between the bed and the bottom rails. Maybe put some liquid vinyl on the curved edges.
Great idea and nicely executed. I think if you used black rivets instead of self tapping screws it would of looked even cleaner. It be really easy to rivet them in since you already have the holes there from the self tappers. And rivets won’t stick out as much as the screws. You might just have to clean them up a little with a drill. But still an awesome idea. And you can probably just run another really slim piece of the netting down the bottom with the rolled edge out so it gives it more rigidity and maybe put an adhesive rubber or foam (Lowe’s door seal) on bottom to protect from damaging the bed and reduce rattling. I’m about to pick up a new tundra and I’m definitely doing this to mine.
Maybe overlap some more of the gutter guard and use the same screws to attach it. I’m going to do this and try what I just said, I have the same bed extender. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I have the traditional tool box you see 99% of the time. I’m thinking of getting a tri fold bed cover with a bed extender like yours. With the extender folded in and tri fold down, you think there’s enough room for a couple tool bags to nest right in there? I’m a builder and just have my normal tool bag, bag of battery operated extra tools, bag of paint cans, and my punch box. I think this could be the ideal set up for me and still have room for my step ladder.
Hello!! I need to know 2 things. 1) What brand of screws you use?? 2) The length of the screws. Thank you so much. Will be doing it soon for my 21 F150 bed extender. Thanks in advance.
Outstanding idea, Sir! I purchased a “Xterrain” product, and am in the process of drilling the holes to mount it now. Your extender looks very similar to mine, (for a 2919 Ford Ranger XLT Lariat) and I’m hoping that the gutter protection screening will fit as well as yours does. (I’m also hoping that Lowe’s still has this brand after 3 yrs! 😃) I’m a retired Paramedic and quite a novice doing projects like this- do you happen to remember the price of these screens? TY! Awesome video. Looks amazing and I plan to do the same this weekend. The TRD emblem was a nice touch. Are you just using adhesive for the emblem and has it stayed attached over time?
AMP Research should produce new bed extenders with your mesh modifications. They should pay you for your intuitive idea. Nice work 👍
Thank you sir!
It’s goanna be more work for minimum wage
Great job on this, these are really nice!
This aged well. These are still for sale and this mod is ingenious. Idea, pull the screws one at a time and replace with rivets!
Thanks for the tip. I did what you suggested, but also what I did for the bottom was fold the gutter guard in half . It's stiff enough to hold stuff from falling out. It worked out well.
That's actually a good idea, simple and no reason to hate on it. Heck, 0 thumbs down. Kudos
Thanks brother. Still works like a champ.

This is brilliant and it even looks factory. Thanks for sharing!
What a great idea. I've been wanting to add an extender to my '16 Tundra, definitely adding this when I finally get around to putting one on.
This is a great idea, I just picked up the same mesh material from Home Depot and will be doing the same thing to my bed extender on my Nissan Frontier, thanks.
great idea! Just got a Tundra, and this was one of the things that bugged me about the extender.

That idea is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing that. Off to Lowe’s I go. 👍🏼🇨🇦
Brilliant! Gunna head to Lowes today and tackle this! Thanks
This was such a great idea, and very well presented. I logged in just to upvote, and share how much I like the idea! Subscribed!
Thanks a bunch!
I would use black auto touch up paint has a small brush . Great idea really nice .
The TRD emblem was a nice touch.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION
Fantastic idea and that is awesome luck and creativity with the gutter guard. Im going to do the same thing. Thanks for sharing
Awesome idea. I went and bought those lock in gutter and installed them. Looks great. Thanks for the video

I’m looking at some at Home Depot and they are like 4 bucks each
Prices got absolutely ridiculous lately

Bruh, that came out Clean Eastwood! I’m doing it to mine. Thanks for the tip!
Wow, that is an awesome hack and looks super good - thanks for sharing!
Suggestion....For the bottom use foam core pipe or just a regular pool noodle.
Looks great man. Looking to do this to my Tacoma.
For the bottom just use the same black mesh just cut it to go behind the first bar. You could use the screw you already have in there.
Yeah. Ez suggestion but ugly, flimsy, not attractive or practical. Gets bent easily and sharp on the hands in articulation practice.
Wow! who would have thought. That's a great idea, I'm about to do the same
Awesome mod!!! Not only functional but looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing, very helpful video, have a good one.
That’s an amazing idea, I’ll definitely be looking in to adding that feature. Thanks for sharing.
Utilized on my newly installed Bed Extender. Thank you for great idea.
Cool hack! Easy DIY. Thanks dude!
I see this is 2 years old. But hows it holding up? Also the bottom maybe a soft rubber skirt like for a door could be used at the bottom?
Maybe overlap some more of the gutter guard and use the same screws to attach it. I’m going to do this and try what I just said, I have the same bed extender. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Great mod. Just got a 2017 and put a paragon cover on. I’m ready to add the AMP extender. Hoping everything fits together.
Thanks for the brilliant idea. I just finished installing my bed extender and the mesh. Looks awesome.
That looks slick! Very nice 👌
Terrific mod. Looks great and solves an issue. Thanks
Brilliant! Thanks for the tip.
Awesome idea and very nicely done!!!!
Genius! Thanks for sharing!
What a hack!! Looks clean. Thanks for sharing!
Aluminum Pop rivets would probably be a better solution. While Galvanized screws are better, Galvanic Corrosion is still a concern.
What a great frickin idea!!!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Good job. You are the man.
I'm copying this first thing in the morning, thank you!!
Should've done rivets for lower profile. But solid idea
I know it's extremy late lol but a door draft seal at the bottom would work
😊 thank you ! It worked out awesome!
Nice mod and nicely done.
Thanks. Still holding up too
@@Archifx Did you ever come up with a solution for the gap under the lower bar?
Run the easy edge side upside down on the bottom
Great idea on the mesh addition. Thanks
Genius idea! Thank you!
Galvanic corrosion.... aluminum and steel when combined expedites corrosion.
None of this thing is steel. It’s all aluminum and nothing has corroded
@@Archifx right, just went through your video that you used galvanized screws. That works.
Best idea ever!
Just an idea but add a aluminum tube the top and bottom somehow and it should seal the gap
Great hack. Thanks.
Do you still recommend this extender and hack? Did you also come up with a solution for the bottom of the extender?
Nice. I need to do something like this. I have the same extender.
I love it. Nice job! Thx for sharing

Gret idea love this thanks
How many pieces of screen should I get mine is in the shed unfortunately I can’t get to it right now but I am making a run to hardware store tmr
any update on putting something on the bottom to prevent items sliding out through the space?
I fold the gutter guard in half
Outstanding. Thank you very much.👍

Really like that
Great IDEA!! THANKS!
Great video
Nice man, i just got mine in, how many pieces of the gutter guard takes to do this? I want to do this like now man, looks awesome
Great idea, will this fit with a canopy?
Thank you for sharing bro!!!
how did you attach the TRD logo to the mesh?
Looks nice, but look at the large gap at the bottom of your bed extender.
Did you ever come up with a solution to guard the top/bottom from stiff falling through?
I didn’t but I’m working on it. Lol. Need to get back at it.
Perfect...if you do not mind.. I will copy your design. Thanks
Nice job!
Just cut 2/3rds of the mesh off to cover the bottom portion.
Awesome video. Looks amazing and I plan to do the same this weekend. The TRD emblem was a nice touch. Are you just using adhesive for the emblem and has it stayed attached over time?
No adhesive needed. It’s on there with the hardware. Thanks for the comment 👍👍
Great tip thanks
Nice job!
Very nice, how is it still holding up, any rust etc.
Still perfect
Good stuff!
Awesome Idea.
So sick
