Only the third stanza is used as the national anthem, but the other two are *not* forbidden. You can sing them, play them loudly, etc. You'll get funny looks, though.
You are right with that, but the first two stanzas aren't used, because they were abused by the Nazis so its kind of like you were playing the national anthem of the Nazis which does understandably upset us germans.
Also it is called: "Das Lied der Deutschen" and not "Deutschlandlied" which would just be shitty grammar.
Is the first and second verse of the Das Lied der Deutschen (Song of the Germans) forbidden?:
Clear answer: No. In a ruling in March 1990, the Federal Constitutional Court decided that the entire song - including verse one and two - may be interpreted under the protection of artistic freedom. However, only the third verse is protected under criminal law. If the first or second verse is sung on official occasions - as has now happened in the USA - this is by no means prohibited. It is just plain wrong. One does not sing the national anthem then.
But the story that the first two verses of the Lied der Deutschen are forbidden, persists stubbornly even among us Germans. Because the allied victorious powers had banned them shortly after the Second World War, but this ban was later lifted.

+Darren Lee It's great! I mainly use it for work but it works very well on games as it gives better field of view.. If i was on a 16:9 monitor i probably didn't see that Benson at 6:16 ^^

If you practice dodging torps much, you can do that. I dodged around 20 torps in 3~4 wave in a row in Kawachi ; )).
pirotess2 I wish I could give you more than one thumbs-up. Dodging Torps isnt exactly easy, but doing so in a *Kawachi* really takes skill! :D

Yeah, it is really tiresome since Kawachi is freaking slow. and thanks to enemy usually drop at >5km, if they drop torps at 3km away, it is almost impossible to dodge.

At 2:02, I thought I was the victim in the video. Had something EXACTLY like this happen to me but I was in my Iowa. The little DD got within a km of me, tried to bump him, tried to shoot him, tried to secondary him, but everything was too slow. Watched as a full torp salvo smashed me to bits. I was laughing hysterically, the little guy came out of nowhere and popped into vision like 2km away. Was a fun match lol.
