Preemptive spotting is crucial to see the position of the enemy ships. And by being spotted, you'd lose the element of surprise. Therefore, you, along with the rest of your team can compensate the enemy movement. - While Spotter plane flies in a shorter total duration compared to Fighter (On a Cruiser atleast), it flies FARTHER from the ship and have slower airspeed, which means it can spot further and longer. Also, ship air detection ALSO blooms when they shoot, so it can spot EVEN further ships especially cruisers that are trying to abuse their concealment. Plus, because it flies further, you can get a glimpse at a stalking DDs that are just beyond their detection range. - When Spotter is active, you will get a higher artillery view, everyone knows this. But the most useful benefit it provides is viewing ships BEHIND obstacles. This means you can DIRECTLY counter camping ships without wasting salvos trying to eyeball your shots. You can even blindshot them without hitting the island. Its not just about the range, and its particularly useful on a ship with high arcing shots like DM. - The entire build is focused on giving yourself a personal advantage in a battle while also contributes to the team. Think about this, if you equip Radar, you are FORCED to do the spotting for your team (Which doesn't always contribute when you are radaring and spotting) and at the same time, putting yourself in a precarious position that screams 'SHOOT ME' to the enemy team. DM is not a particularly stealthy ship with a troll armor, and you'd just be as useless as your team if you fail to kill the DD you just radared (I don't even need to say this if you're dead). On the contrary, using the Spotter plane gives you a greater flexibility. Need to secure a cap? It can spot other approaching enemy ships for your team to shoot and for you to plan what to do afterwards. The entire fleet is advancing? You can stay at range focus one ship until its dead. And other opportunities aswell that you'd might not expect. - In the end, its not about spotting ONE particular ship and asking the entire team to shoot at it (Only competitive bros do that), its about giving as much intel to your team while allowing you to farm damage & EXP if your team ended up losing. Beside, I thought people want DYNAMIC and NON-STALE gameplay right? I mean its RANDOM anyway, and you people LOVE complaining about players in Random battle. I'm just providing one solution so you can keep the salt to yourself, kappa. EDIT: Why I took SE, Pretty straightforward, what other skill worth taking that you can fully utilize apart from SE? BoS? It gives very negligible difference after WG shortens the maximum duration of fire on Cruisers & DDs. Vigilance? Does it matter as DD avoids you regardless? You can slot Hydro anyway. BFT? CVs are dead. Spare 1 extra point and take IFHE? You are in the wrong channel. SE on the other hand increases the amount of damage your ship can take, because it also affects how much health you can recover on every heal (Yes, SE affects that) and couple that with India Delta flag (More HP recovered/heal) you can absorb alot of damage. I've tanked more than 80k damage once in my DM and lives. Beside, what better insult you can show to the enemy from dominating the match using a SE equipped Cruiser of all things, kapp. You can take High Alert & Expert Loader still, but you're missing the memes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Yuro gets away this those ridiculous set ups because he's Yuro, he one of the best WoWs players around, he understands game mechanics like no other ad probably masters every "normal" configuration to the point he thinks they get boring and tries something new as a challenge he even has fun like this. That guy is not human.
See, the thing is from what I see in this vid, Yuro is using the planes in situations where the DM is already really strong, which is camping island cover. It's not free license to go and play your DM haphazardly.

I tried this build last night. Average damage was 192k which IMHO is not bad at all in a DM, especially considering its lack of torpedoes. Good stuff as always Yuro, thnx!
