    I'm impressed how easily you beat this game. I play it with a friend as often as I can. He is up to about 400 deaths now. We've just started Act 3. It has taken us months to get this far but it's been great fun.

    On most rogue likes there is a save feature, on others like risk of rain the main run is not 4 hours long. Any game beyond an hour or two needs to have a save option. Also did you ever play Hades? Many consider it a master piece, myself included, should that have been a 60 dollar game?

    • @chrisrivera7530
      @chrisrivera7530  3 роки тому +1

      I can understand why the longer runs could become an issue for some, but most runs are not 4 hours, that is a bit of a rarity. Most of mine were between 30min-2 hours. I am curious what other rogue likes have a save feature though, because I know Isaac and ROR2 dont, and Im pretty sure Spelunky doesnt either. The ones that I know that have some form of saving (Dead Cells) have had issues with save scumming, which is kinda why a lot of roguelikes dont tend to have a save system in general. As far as Hades, I haven't played it yet, but yes I would most definitely pay $60 for it and im actually a little surprised they didnt charge more for it than they did lol. Everything Ive heard about it is that its amazing, and its at least 20 hours to beat, so yeah Id have no issue paying full price for that.

      @@chrisrivera7530 Most of your runs were less than an hour because you died most likely lol, but if you are on a full run and needing to be committed to it entirely for around 4 hours is unacceptable in my opinion. And why is save scumming such an issue? Why can't a player play the way they want to play, the paid 70 bucks lol. Like how does my save scumming effect your playthrough? Games that come to mind with saves are dead cells, darkest dungeon, Hades. Also most rogue like full runs are not 4+ hours either. That is crazy to me you would pay 60 bucks for Hades. The game gave me "Such and such hours of fun" is not what determines if a game is charged at aaa prices. It is the production values, cost to develope, paying full npc voice acting, full npc development, entire world creations, things like this, in my opinion make a game aaa priced. Paying full price for a procedural generated game, and a roguelike sets a frustrating precedent in my opinion.

      @@YuGiOhDuelChannel You literally just explained why this game is worth a triple A price tag. High production values, high cost to develop, full voice acting, entire world creation. This game 100% has triple A polish. Every room is also hand crafted, the ordering is just different, I don't understand the mental gymnastics going on to make you think that is a sign of cheapness. In addition, Chris's estimate of 4 hours is exaggerated in my opinion by quite a bit. I never had a run longer than 2.5 hours and I only died 4 times so don't even say it was due to me dying.
      The reason save scumming is an issue is because people who struggle will feel that they need to save scum, which cheapens the experience dramatically. Chris also does not mention there is a checkpoint system in the game, which lets you store your current run progress for your next death.
      Btw, you being a cheap ass does not mean games aren't justified in that pricing, especially if enough players are willing to pay that price. You do realize that the rough estimate for 1 second of animation from an experienced animator is about an hour. Do some simple math between that, the modeling effort, the general production costs, and the fact that consoles are generally sold for a net loss. The game clearly justifies the normal game pricing of premium when it comes out and if that's too much for you then wait a few months. Don't speak for the majority of people because you're poor, cheap, or both, and can't wait a couple months for a sale. Someone needs to fund these games, and doing so does not set a "frustrating precedent".

      @@petereldredge2329 What do you think required more production value, gta 5 or returnal? Last of us 2 or returnal? Red dead or returnal? Valhalla or returnal? Procedural generation is the opposite of world building, building a static world takes much more production value then Procedural generating.
      Scum saving may cheapen the experience but why aren't I allowed to cheapen my experience? What does it matter to you and your run? Sorry, makes no sense to force people to not save because a few people out there might save scum. The vast majority of people just want a reliable way to walk away from a run if needed be. Most working people do not have 4 hours, let alone 2 and a half hours, to play straight.
      Being a cheap ass?? What a silly insult lmao. Because I try to determine the worth of something I am a cheap ass?? Anyone who spends without thinking what something is worth may not be a cheap ass, but they would be a dumb ass.

      @@YuGiOhDuelChannel 1. You are comparing a niche but still big budget new console exclusive, to established franchises that will sell more before they launch than Returnal will in it's lifetime. So you do want to live in a world where every big budget game needs to sell millions of copies or not? I know my answer.
      2. You are completely wrong about the world building aspect, and I am shocked you have this opinion since it sounds like you played Hades. I don't know how else to explain this to you, it is STATIC chunks, placed procedurally. I don't understand how you think that is less effort than completely static layouts, you need far more explanation of why that is the case. My best guess is that you don't understand what "world building" actually means.
      3. It's the same reason Dark Souls should not have an easy mode, if the option is there, people will feel inclined to cheapen the experience for themselves. If you don't have that opinion of it then fine, I'm not going to be able to change your mind.
      4. This point also brings your comprehension skills into question. He literally says you can pause whenever, or just put the console into sleep mode to stop. I know when Chris played the game he literally put his console into rest mode mid run (which is the default when you turn off the console), went to sleep, woke up and finished the run the next night. You can still play the game at your own pace mr busy man, you just can't switch games mid run.
      5. I already explained why your logic is retarded, see #1. You can be a cheap ass, that's fine, but people who pay full price are the ones who fund the game. I don't spend my money without thinking, but I also don't cheap out on my main hobby.

      Its such a cool buildup and fight. Probably my favorite of the game, at least in terms of the overall presentation of it. And yeah I thought about that but I figured since its completely out of context it doesnt really mean anything lol.
      And about the save issue, Im curious, did you experience crashing issues? Or do you just want a save feature in general?

    • @ProtestantsRUs
      @ProtestantsRUs 3 роки тому

      @@chrisrivera7530 Funny enough, my first crash wasn't until after I beat act 2. But no, I just wanted a general save feature, and the checkpoints are absolutely unforgiving in act 1. But in act 3 there's a shortcut to every biome and I'm good enough now that it doesn't really matter anymore. Orphion was straight up easy the 2nd time.

    So, with the saving issue, I have occasional power shortages where I live. It's kinda shitty that I lose so much progress if the power goes out. I get what you mean by the game making it clear beforehand, but I really want to play this game but this really puts me off (I don't have a PS5 yet either though :P)

      Yea thats a bit unfortunate, so I see where that could be annoying. It does seem that they are looking to add some sort of minor save feature after the player feedback, so maybe when you get your hands on a PS5 they'll have it updated! You must live in the Philippines, like me. Or another third world country where they have brownouts. I suggest you invest in a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) then put the console in rest mode when the power goes out.

Although I am one of the people who dislike the price it's more so because I feel housemarquee is an Indie as opposed to a AAA studio but if you say they achieved what a AAA studio would achieve then I understand their move, but i'm def waiting for a sale or to catch it on offer up hahaha!

    So you played this game 33+ hours without a pause? :D the thing is that many players dont have lets say more than 2-3 hours a day to play videogames. We are not all 24/7 nerds

    • @chrisrivera7530
      @chrisrivera7530  3 роки тому +1

      Nah lol, I played this game over the course of a week (to beat it) and then for another few days to get the secret ending and replay it again. You can pause the game, you just put the console in rest mode. Thats what I did when I went to bed or had to go to work. Most runs are anywhere between 20 minutes-2 hours depending on how you play. So playing for 2-3 hours a day is a totally viable way to play the game.

      @@chrisrivera7530 but you think a save system would not be a quality of life change? Where is the difference between saving a game or put it in rest mode? It's the same, but restmode is just uncomfortable. 'Use' restmode is clearly just a 'hack' to save the game. If you used it, you don't play the game like the devs think you should. So if you use restmode you indirectly cry for a savesystem ;)

      @@rufius4050 I mean, the game literally tells you to use restmode at the start of it lmaooo. Like, thats actually something that is said onscreen lol. The idea behind using the rest mode is to prevent people from save scumming or trying to abuse the system (quitting the game before they are about to die and respawning at their save).

      @@rufius4050 Yea, autosaving out of combat is much better than having a manual save, but it also still has the issue of people save scumming. The few roguelikes that I know of that have some form of autosave, have had issues with people save scumming.
