I am Japanese. This song takes me back to the trauma of being bullied in elementary school. Everyone called me a "baikin" (dirty germ) and I washed myself with a mop in the school bathroom. I had bad words written on my desk and the blackboard, and all I could do was sneak around and hear my bad words. I wished I didn't have my own eyes, ears and mouth, so I would look down and stare at the asphalt in a "Arched back (cat posture)" on my way home alone. It's a very painful memory, but somehow this song relaxes me.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I can't imagine how it must've felt and i hope your bullies faced karma, what a bunch of terrible and disgusting people.
I feel like this song is about an abused, paranoid kid who tries to act like nothing happens after they're abused, but it's really tearing them apart inside. They're so paranoid about getting hurt, that they notice every little thing and are very observant to attempt to ensure that abuse won't find its way to them in their 'free time'. At least, that's my dark interpretation.
@@Kmilkfr0g Oh; I really hope you're better now. I didn't come up with this theory in relation to my life, but it still hits me right in the heart. Kikuo's really got a talent for doing that to you, huh?
I think the kid/cat is familiar with the pavement because they get their faces smashed into it, then after they walk home and stare at the ground on the way home all meek and hunched over like they're trying to be as small as possible. Then they shower all the blood and evidence away. rinse and repeat. Maybe not tho, im not fluent in cryptic Kikuo metaphor speak. A tad harder than regular Japanese I reckon
@Ayjop I think the idea of the blood being a metaphor for emotional trauma is the most likely cause of the line "and all the germs from the scratches on my brain," which says emotional trauma and mental illness to me. But the way I interpreted it was that washing the blood off is more trying to hide the fact that it was there in the first place, so that they can pretend to be living a "carefree life" around the people who don't know about the bullying. Then again, I am also not fluent in Kikuo metaphor speak
I think that they look at the cracked pavement and they assume, hey that’s also broken and so tons over other people are being bullied and therefore they assumes it’s alright
Y'all are over here saying that _everyone_ was gangsta until someone translated it. But what about the people who understand Japanese? *They never got to think it was a nice song* Edit: As someone who lives in the U.S., we don't call body parts those funky names (ex: Eyes (English subtitles), Peepers (U.S. subtitles)).
lmao feels bad for the japanese or people who understand japanese because the lyrics would ruin their experience lmao still tho, even after i understand the lyrics its still a bop
haha yeah, i'm fluent in Japanese, but I'm super weird so I like it. Also, even if you speak Japanese, vocaloid can be hard to understand because of the autotune and stuff. I don't always catch all the lyrics when I hear a vocaloid song, whether in English or Japanese
I understood the lyrics differently even tho I think the other theories about an abused kid seem more correct I'm going to make a different (more literal) interpretation here: The lyrics could be about a kid dealing with OCD but trying to hide it because he gets made fun of. The little things he notices like the cracks in the pavement, how his shoes get worn down and how the letter "P" in a stop sign is written differently but "I'm the one who minds it most". The part about scrubbing clean and getting rid of the germs could also be a part of it because some people with OCD struggle with that too. The cries are his reaction to being bullied and laughed at because of it. He believes that he's the problem and that it's his fault that something's wrong with him therefore he thinks that he's at fault for crying "The sound of my crying sounds so stupid" Parts of his face getting crushed could be how he ignores his senses that are used to notice such small things and hides his OCD but in the end he ends up ignoring too much and trying to forget it in hope of a care free life.
Also, in a way I thought of some parts of it, especially with the body parts and stuff, could be related to Tourette's, since it reminds me of how I feel about my involuntary movements and noises. But this is an addition to the OCD theory, because TS and OCD tend to coexist together a lot and it's theorized they're genetically related. BUT THAT'S JUST MY TWO CENTS.
Your theory makes a lot of sense! As a person with severe OCD there are a few lyrics that line up with issues i deal with along with rituals i have For me I think it could be about an individual suffering from OCD who punishes themselves/ makes fun of themselves for having it The crying could be them at their wits end since the disorder has stopped them from enjoying life or possibly the things that used to make them happy Or crying just because having the disorder is like being unable to relax since any one of your triggers can appear at any time Hell triggers can even be intrusive thoughts that just pop up out of nowhere The parts about laughter could be the sufferer themselves laughing at the things that they do and how something small or random can set them off. This all leading up to them isolating themselves that way the anxiety or triggers dont appear as much
Theory time This song seems like it might be about bullying. Setting the lyrics aside for a second, just the picture alone suggests a school kid (cat) who's been beat up. As for the lyrics, it starts with kicking rocks and the cracks in the asphalt--known best by the narrator--suggesting they look down at the ground a lot. The mention of cracks in the asphalt and knowing them well could also indicate the narrator has been held down on the ground as others beat him up. The bit with the description of the hunched back of the cat gets me a bit. Maybe, like the picture being an anthropomorphic cat, the same is being described here--that the narrator's shoes wearing out from kicking rocks, becoming like the hunched back of a cat, is the narrator relating to their own kicking of the rocks, just like they're being kicked each day. The chorus talks about what happens--the narrator is basically beat up all over. It ends with rinsing out the scratches and germs, most likely referring to the narrator going home to shower and clean up after being bullied. The second verse talks about the STOP on the asphalt. Again, since asphalt is mentioned, it can be assumed the narrator is on the ground. Them minding the STOP and all the detail (how the P looks a bit funny) suggests they're really scrutinising it, trying to focus on something other than the pain being inflicted. They probably also relate to the STOP, wishing all the beatings and suffering they're experiencing would just stop. Next, the chorus, which ends with a description of a nosebleed running into the eyes and bloody tears following as 'laughter flows through the ears'. This laughter is from the bullies, beating up the narrator. The chorus plays again, this time ending with 'pathetic, stupid wailing' and being forgotten. I think this 'being forgotten' is the narrator referring to themselves. We already saw in the first chorus how he goes home to shower off and rinse out the scratches and infections from the beatings. This is his way of just forgetting what happened and getting on with his day, and this current chorus reflects that. The very last chorus really brings home this 'forgetting'. Firstly, the narrator describes what he feels, pleasure or pain, is 'not seen, not heard, not said, not smelled', once again referring to how he forgets his own pain despite those very body parts--eyes, ears, mouth, nose--being the most destroyed. Then, he says 'This day, too, by nighttime, will be forgotten' and 'I live carefree', meaning, even after everything, all the suffering, once he goes home at the end of it, rinses out the cuts, he won't care about it anymore. It'll just happen again, but he puts it out of his mind. This song could also possibly be from the perspective of the bullies. Some verses and bits of the chorus could suggest this. Either way, 11/10, love it, kikuo. Keep up the creepy bops.
The main character is a cat, maybe because 猫背 (nekoze) means "to bent down". The song is focused on the fact that he looks down : - what he sees on the asphalt on his way home. - the fact that "blood from [his] nose runs towards [his] eyes". - the artwork where only the lower part of the city is precisely drawn, and the higher part is mostly suggested. This, plus the fact that he wants to forget something and live an easy life, shows that he has problems he doesn't express. Plus, I think that Miku's voice is overly merry sometimes in this song. The backpack on the artwork may refer to school harassment (ijime) ? Anyways he doesn't want to, or maybe he can't even talk about it. It's not even mentioned in the song. In that kind of situation, scarification is pretty common and here it makes sense : - he suppresses his eyes, ears and nose to become isolated from this violence - he destroys his mouth to not talk about it. *edit : Saying that he "[doesn't] even manage to make it pitiful" might mean that he wanted others to have pity over his scarification and stop this violence.* Pretty dark huh ? This is just an hypothesis. If you have anything to say that I didn't notice or might have interpreted wrongly, thanks for telling me !
I feel like the lyric about not being able to “make it pitiful” could mean that he tried reaching out to someone, but they didn’t pity him and instead told him to brush it off, which is why he cleans off all his scars from the bullying. (?)
The higher part of the city just being suggested hit home because some time ago i actually began to walk properly and it felt strange how i could see so many new things
It's all fun and games until someone translates Kikuos song into English and you realise what horrible horrible things it was actually about all along and you thought maybe just maaaaybe this time it would be different but nO It's never different.
the fact that someone out there, actually a good amount of people might feel in the way described by the lyrics is disturbing and heartbreaking at the same time. i want to hug those people so bad.
as an autistic teenager, i interpret this song as not being socially acceptable in anything you do, I watch the people around me but whatever i do, i cannot be like them because i am just simply not normal and i never will be. I walk with my head down with a cat-like posture as to avoid eye contact, i observe things around me more than other people do. I cannot tell whether the people around me are making fun of me, if they like me, if they couldn’t bother to even care, because of my inability to read social cues. I turn off my ears, my mouth, my nose, my everything, and forget. i simply live in my own world, a world that i’ll always be normal in. I have bad grades in my classes, everyday i tell myself “just make it through the day, that’s all that matters” because to me, it’s all that matters because i don’t see a future for myself. the closest thing to my future that ive imagined is living until tomorrow. I tell myself i’m a carefree person but truth is, i care so much that ive forced myself to forget about my burdens.
Everyone: *argues about what these songs are about* Kikuo in his recent timeline video: “so basically, I wanted to make darker music, and i took some walks around town..” there you have it ladies and gentlemen. a true mastermind.
So my theory is, this could be about a kid with Tourette's and OCD, due to the fact TS sprouts up roughly about Elementary/Primary school years, and OCD because of some of the themes and use of words as imagery here (TS fits for that as well). Also, OCD has a high comorbidity rate as a secondary disorder to TS as it is. I'll just do a rough mark-up of what details I believe applies to each disorder here, in regards to the song itself. TS: mentions of kicking pebbles enough to wear out shoes (kicking can be a common complex motor tic), assault to various parts of the body (mouth is a huge one alongside eyes (tics can involve the eyes and mouth quite often)), repetitive parts in song (meow is not uncommon for a complex vocal tic, same with the "yah" and "hah" parts), song sounds kind of dissonant with the instruments and obnoxious (just like tics can be), also of course...TS kids seem to be bullied easily, from what stories and personal accounts I've seen. OCD: cleanliness/germ issues implied, noticing small details and possibly due to being hypervigilant of surroundings where the issues occurred (as a way to know when said fear is going to come), there is rhythm in the song, "Carefree life" could imply trying to avoid things such as anxiety/fears (avoidance can be an OCD compulsion), obsessive fears with the assault, repetitively saying "forget it" could be trying to push the obsessive fear out of their mind. Again, this is only a theory and not anything more, it was mostly just for fun. Also I may have forgotten some details so excuse me.

I’ve been having weird dreams lately. But like half a year ago I had a dream that I was in a strange hospital, and I peeked out the window of a surgery room and I saw that a nurse/surgeon literally was sowing someone’s eyes, mouth, nose and ears up so they had none of those “holes.” This song reminds me so much of that and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it.
Low-key thinking that miku had a stray cat she loved dearly but walking back from where ever with the cat. she stopped at a stop sign but the cat kept going and got crushed by something, it felt slow for her and she felt the cats pain hence why she says crush my (body part here) or crush your (body part here) She put herself in the place of the cat and felt it's suffering while describing the situation to the viewer
Gonna copy and paste my shitty theory :') *Every bold sentences were newly added based from updated lyrics* Batsu/XxX = Punishment/Penalty I'll go with literal way. I think it is about being either bullied or abused as the cat's punishment in a brutal way. Also there are XxX (bandages) on the cat's body, so the wounds and injuries came from the punishment, not an accident. *I noticed that the title is changed to "Cross Mark Cat", so before anyone questions- X means 'wrong answer' as it comes from the game called "Batsu Game". Batsu can either mean "punishment", or " X", as in an incorrect answer (penalty).* There might be a lot of things that I didn't get since it's in Japanese, so there might be puns that could reveal much more. The cat usually wanders on the streets which is why they're talking about the asphalt, and there are people who abused the cat for their fucked-up satisfaction and is easy target because unlike dogs, they're small and easy to take advantage, so this is why the cat is the representation of the character. ("Like a cat") *Their neck and back are "becoming a cat". So not only the cat represents, but they also felt like a cat too.* They mentioned that they knew the best on the shape and location of the cracks of asphalt, so they could've been escaped a lot on the outside from the clutches of abuse and punishment, ended up memorizing their surroundings. *Still the same.* They also mentioned that they're worried on the word "STOP" on the asphalt as it is the command, so it hinted that they commanded/begged for punisher/abuser to "stop" hurting them, but they didn't as they only laughed at them, and with a possibility that saying "stop" makes their punishment worse and worried that they might trigger them. (Or maybe while they ran, the punisher commanded them to "stop" running to which it makes them scared and worried for their life.) *They noticed the last letter "P" is odd to them. So it might be possible that they couldn't say it or unable to say "STOP" completely, letting themselves be punished* "Stupid, stupid, wail rising up" *("The hardly-ever-pathetic and very stupid crying, is from me, who shall be,")* and "Every day, every day, forget it, forget it" *("Day-to-day, day-to-day, day-to-day, forgotten, forgotten, forgotten")* tell that they knew it's hopeless for everything to stop as feeling pity and wail for help were useless to their situation *since they would just be forgotten and ignored by non-abuse people,* so they just continued to live in "carefree life" *("I live a day quite easy")*. *Which is why they couldn't say "stop" because it will be repeated again and again, so the days were forgotten and are relived, to the point that they've gotten used to it and able to "live easily."* They will just get hurt, escape on the outside, go back, and repeat. Yeah, I suck at theorising. :') *Yeah, still suck at it. I realized this theory is also vague since it's about victim escaping from punishment, but that's all. It didn't say of what really happened. It could be teacher always punish the student for saying wrong answer, or the witnesses won't help the victim and reminded them as a cat, or the abuser is mocking their victim's state and singing while hurting them. Eh... Oh well.*
@@Evarace no, your theory is good ! I actually have the same. you can ad the fact that they crush ears, mouth, eyes, and nose. it reminds me of this "I see, say and hear no wrong" : the abusers act as if they didn't see or hear anything, and weren't guilty of what the "cat" have to endure. it can also refer to the "cat" himself : when he is asked about were the bruises come from, he act as if he didn't know, or at least, doesn't tell anyone about his abusers' wrong behaviour. It can also refer to non abuser people, like teachers, neighbours, or even people you meet everyday on street : when they see this abused kid, they know exactly what's going on, but they act as if they were oblivious, again, as if they couldn't see or ear the bad things happening.
Undersea Lullaby That could be possible, especially with the adults. It was actually up until recently that the adults(more specifically the teachers and school staff) wouldn’t do anything about a kid either being bullied or was the bully. Apparently it was going along the idea that people in Japan don’t like confrontations and this causing many to not speak up during situations someone was being harassed or bullied. Even if an adult did get involved, they didn’t seem to push the matter of it or really see if the perpetrator stopped their actions. That might even explain the “STOP” and why everyone seems to ignore it in the song. It’s also possible(though this is just me) that the song might even make the bully seem to not give a crap about their actions and sees no problem with it, even with no hints of there being a troubled life at home or anything like that. Some kids would just bully others for the mere heck of it or because they’re different, it could literally be anything. I just know that bullying in Japan is a lot more different and handled differently than in western countries(specifically USA and Canada). I would recommend looking at the anime “Silent Voice” since it’s actually more realistic about the subject than other anime shows/movies.
[Lyrics]: Because of kicking pebbles everyday, the toes of my shoes easily get worn out. Looking down at the worn-out toes, my kneck and back become like cats’. It is me that knows the shape and position of cracks on asphalt pavement better than anyone else. I will crush my eyes and nose. I will crush my ears and mouth. My claws, my shoulder, my knee pis, elbow and my shin, I will crush. I will wash away dirts in the scar on my brain miso. The letter ‘止まれ’ written on an asphalt pavement, whose ‘れ’ I only find is a little bent. I will crush my eyes and nose. I will crush my ears and mouth. I hear laughter with nose blood running down to my eyes and with bright red tears standing in the eyes. They little by little everyday forget me, who make an idiotic cry which doesn’t seem so miserable. I don’t see, hear, say and smell, pain and sorrow. At the bottom of darkness, without remembering anything, do I also live an easy life today.

I understood the lyrics differently even tho I think the other theories about an abused kid seem more correct I'm going to make a different (more literal) interpretation here:
The lyrics could be about a kid dealing with OCD but trying to hide it because he gets made fun of.
He believes that he's the problem and that it's his fault that something's wrong with him therefore he thinks that he's at fault for crying "The sound of my crying sounds so stupid"
Parts of his face getting crushed could be how he ignores his senses that are used to notice such small things and hides his OCD but in the end he ends up ignoring too much and trying to forget it in hope of a care free life.
As a person with severe OCD there are a few lyrics that line up with issues i deal with along with rituals i have
For me I think it could be about an individual suffering from OCD who punishes themselves/ makes fun of themselves for having it
The crying could be them at their wits end since the disorder has stopped them from enjoying life or possibly the things that used to make them happy
Or crying just because having the disorder is like being unable to relax since any one of your triggers can appear at any time
Hell triggers can even be intrusive thoughts that just pop up out of nowhere
The parts about laughter could be the sufferer themselves laughing at the things that they do and how something small or random can set them off.
This all leading up to them isolating themselves that way the anxiety or triggers dont appear as much
This makes sence. Thanks for sharing your view on this song
As someone who deals with OCD, I really love this interpratation of the lyrics. Thank you.
And all the germs from the scratches on my brain. I am sold.
kikuo is absolutely worth staying up 24 hours for thank you for my life

Theory time
This song seems like it might be about bullying.

Oof
TheoLKC cuz it’s making u dance because it’s beautiful
The main character is a cat, maybe because 猫背 (nekoze) means "to bent down".
The song is focused on the fact that he looks down :
- what he sees on the asphalt on his way home.
In that kind of situation, scarification is pretty common and here it makes sense :
- he suppresses his eyes, ears and nose to become isolated from this violence
- he destroys his mouth to not talk about it.
*edit : Saying that he "[doesn't] even manage to make it pitiful" might mean that he wanted others to have pity over his scarification and stop this violence.*
Pretty dark huh ? This is just an hypothesis. If you have anything to say that I didn't notice or might have interpreted wrongly, thanks for telling me !
Yoake lol thx
I feel like the lyric about not being able to “make it pitiful” could mean that he tried reaching out to someone, but they didn’t pity him and instead told him to brush it off, which is why he cleans off all his scars from the bullying. (?)
The higher part of the city just being suggested hit home because some time ago i actually began to walk properly and it felt strange how i could see so many new things

as an autistic teenager, i interpret this song as not being socially acceptable in anything you do, I watch the people around me but whatever i do, i cannot be like them because i am just simply not normal and i never will be.
I'm so sorry, I understand you and I promise you will be okay, keep fighting, you’re stronger than you think, you will do it ❤

I have both of these and that's what I thought too!!!
thats true bro
Truest theory there is
@@punchdrunklovesick I agree
As someone with OCD diagnosis, i find this theory really interesting. But i think what lyrics meant by “germs” are negative events around the kid

Most people I know get creeped out by this song. As a person who got bullied REALLY bad, this is comforting. Super comforting.
now let's wait for the theory.
Same here
Low-key thinking that miku had a stray cat she loved dearly but walking back from where ever with the cat.
she stopped at a stop sign but the cat kept going and got crushed by something, it felt slow for her and she felt the cats pain hence why she says crush my (body part here) or crush your (body part here)
She put herself in the place of the cat and felt it's suffering while describing the situation to the viewer
Gonna copy and paste my shitty theory :')
*Every bold sentences were newly added based from updated lyrics*
Batsu/XxX = Punishment/Penalty
I'll go with literal way.
Batsu can either mean "punishment", or " X", as in an incorrect answer (penalty).*
There might be a lot of things that I didn't get since it's in Japanese, so there might be puns that could reveal much more.
The cat usually wanders on the streets which is why they're talking about the asphalt, and there are people who abused the cat for their fucked-up satisfaction and is easy target because unlike dogs, they're small and easy to take advantage, so this is why the cat is the representation of the character. ("Like a cat")
*Their neck and back are "becoming a cat". So not only the cat represents, but they also felt like a cat too.*
They mentioned that they knew the best on the shape and location of the cracks of asphalt, so they could've been escaped a lot on the outside from the clutches of abuse and punishment, ended up memorizing their surroundings.
*Still the same.*
They also mentioned that they're worried on the word "STOP" on the asphalt as it is the command, so it hinted that they commanded/begged for punisher/abuser to "stop" hurting them, but they didn't as they only laughed at them, and with a possibility that saying "stop" makes their punishment worse and worried that they might trigger them. (Or maybe while they ran, the punisher commanded them to "stop" running to which it makes them scared and worried for their life.)
*They noticed the last letter "P" is odd to them. So it might be possible that they couldn't say it or unable to say "STOP" completely, letting themselves be punished*
"Stupid, stupid, wail rising up" *("The hardly-ever-pathetic and very stupid crying, is from me, who shall be,")* and "Every day, every day, forget it, forget it" *("Day-to-day, day-to-day, day-to-day, forgotten, forgotten, forgotten")* tell that they knew it's hopeless for everything to stop as feeling pity and wail for help were useless to their situation *since they would just be forgotten and ignored by non-abuse people,* so they just continued to live in "carefree life" *("I live a day quite easy")*.
*Which is why they couldn't say "stop" because it will be repeated again and again, so the days were forgotten and are relived, to the point that they've gotten used to it and able to "live easily."*
They will just get hurt, escape on the outside, go back, and repeat.
Yeah, I suck at theorising. :')
*Yeah, still suck at it.
Undersea Lullaby
That could be possible, especially with the adults.

また業の深いものを…
素敵すぎませんかね…
Honestly in my opinion this is one of the most underrated vocaloid songs ever. It's one of my favorites
Hearing this song after being bullied in the entirety of elementary school it really hits hard
この子はここまでしないと自分を保てないほどに追い詰められているんだな……
抱き締めてあげたい衝動にかられる
The drawing gives me the vibe of "You can't say it, you can't watch it, you can't hear it, you know nothing, you are just a kid"
ほんとにこの人センスの塊や~
歌詞の中毒性 メロディ
改めて、きくおさんすごい
[Lyrics]:
Because of kicking pebbles everyday, the toes of my shoes easily get worn out.

@@PancakemonsterFO4 you don’t have to be so rude. It’s unnecessary.
