- I eat at and review Stretch Pizza in the Flatiron District of New York City. The restaurant was started by Chef Wylie Dufresne who previously achieved fame and recognition with his innovative Michelin Starred restaurant wd~50. Stretch offers both classic and original pizzas along with some very delicious appetizers.

Haha! Yeah, NYC birds are pretty tough!
@@Jamesnu you're tempting The Fates. First, it was all that red meat. Now you're messing with the pigeons.
@@sangha1486 Haha! I'm a bit of a risk-taker.

Just want to congratulate on your reviews James. You put the same effort in every establishment that you review. High end or more accessible. Keep up the great work. 👍
Thank you! I definitely put a lot of work into my videos so it means a lot to me to hear that it's appreciated.
Fun review. The menu definitely looks quirky and that pizza you chose was creative. The prices weren't too ridiculous. Your reviews are always enjoyable and glad that bird didn't ruin your day.
Thank you! Yeah, the restaurant definitely stands out among the other NYC pizza establishments. Indeed, encounters with birds like that happen, but it's not the worst thing in the world.
I like the part where the ice cream machine wasn't broken.
Haha! That's always a plus!
There’s a saying if a bird dumps on you it means good fortune! Great review as usual.
Thank you! I didn't feel very lucky being that bird's target, but thankfully that lunch made up for it.
Madison Sq Park is notorious for bird dumping as park goers sit among the many benches beneath the trees.
I look so forward to Mondays for your reviews the food looked amazing as was your review thank you
Thank you so much! That really makes me happy to hear!
New fan here James.
Love your channel
No one can interact to the camera with the facial expressions like you. Without saying a word and a mouth full of food 😂❤
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support!
The bird thing, supposed to be good luck. 🐦. Elevated pizza. what a cool place. 🍕.
It really was a cool place!
I'm proud of you that you didn't let those bird shenanigans ruin your fun!
Thank you! I'm not going to let a bird bully me!
janes such a professional reviewer, keep it up buddy and this will be your full time job eventually you desertve way more followers.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Another terrific review, your authenticity is commendable. Thank you for sharing this, no one does it like you.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
We've all been shit on in Madison Square Park before...
Haha! Yeah, you've really got to watch your back there.
There are so many food choices in the Big Apple. That pizza looked absolutely delicious!
Absolutely! There's so many restaurants here.
One day you're going to have a million or two million subscribers. These are the best reviews on the internet.
That would be nice! I really appreciate the support.
Nice review. Your culinary vocabulary seems to be expanding - good. I’m a New Yorker by birth. I live in Santa Barbara and haven’t been back to NYC in over 30 years. Today, I found myself nostalgically thinking about the magnificent NY delis! The great pastrami sandwiches, the garlic pickles, the roasted brisket and the wonderful people behind the counter - true New Yorkers! And, why does that lady keep yelling, “I’ll have what she’s having!”
Thank you! I really appreciate it! I try my best to thoughtfully script out each video. Now you've got me thinking about delis! I might just have to get a pastrami sandwich tomorrow.
Another terrific review. I follow Wylie on IG and it was fun to follow along with him virtually over the pandemic as he experimented with different kinds of doughs and pizzas and techniques. I'd love to taste the final result. Definitely on my list for if/when I make it to NY!
Thank you! Yeah, I've seen some of his posts. He really ended up nailing making good pizza.
"Shrapnels of pizza crust," that was funny. The pizza crust looked solid. Bird poop aside, it seemed like a nice day out. I used to frequent Old Town Bar quite often. I love that area, and that bar is gorgeous inside.
I'm a big fan of the Old Town Bar too. I really appreciate historical spots like that. Yeah, all told, that was a good day!
My stomach could be stretched by going to that Pizza Restaurant! All jokes aside, the place looks great especially with the reviews online. I feel like this city is very similar to mine, which is Montréal. Great video!
Haha! Thank you! Yeah, that pizza was pretty filling. I've heard great things about Montreal. I definitely want to travel there sometime.
Great review as always oh, I like your seiko
Thank you so much!
Another stellar review James. Thanks for sharing all your culinary experiences. Makes planning a food staycation a breeze. Cheers.
Cheers and thank you!
That bird was trying to let you know that you were in HIS territory! 😆
Haha! Indeed!
James, it’s amazing how you pack the food away and are still thin, even for a marathon runner!!
I definitely got lucky when it came to my metabolism.
Another great review. Nice place. The meatballs look delicious. Good choice on your pie. Just enough dessert so you don’t need a nap.😊Glad you enjoyed.👋🏽
Thank you! Indeed, the meatballs were fantastic and it was an overall satisfying lunch!
Thanks James, always a great review!
Thanks for watching!
Pizza shrapnel !!! Love it. 😍
Haha! You've got to look out for it!
James has a way with words.
😜
Hi James,
Thank you for the great review of Stretch Pizza 🍕. I love the fact that a Michelin star chef is in charge! I know that I will try this restaurant next time I’m in NYC.
Have a great week.
Best Wishes,
Peter
Thank you Peter! Yeah, it was an interesting choice for a Michelin starred fine dining chef to open a pizza restaurant, but at the same time, almost everyone enjoys pizza!
Kudos James on this vid. I have always enjoyed excellent pizza, so this is now on my short-list of places to try; I appreciate your recommendation for Stretch. Your insights into taste characteristics says a lot and I encourage you to do more of that. Ciao!
Thank you so much! It's definitely a pizza spot that's worth checking out.
This is around the corner from where I work and I've been there a bunch. Well worth it and get the dipping sauces for the crusts. They are well worth it. Good review.
Thank you! I'll have to remember to get dipping sauce next time.
Great review~ This place is on my radar. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I'm certainly going to have to check this out! WD-50 was on my radar for a while, and unfortunately I never made it there before its demise. As always, thank you again for a wonderful review!
Thank you! Yeah, that's the thing with restaurants, even the really good ones can close for whatever reason. I wish I had the opportunity to dine there as well.
I'm in that area every day and must try Stretch as a pizza aficionado. I also recommend Spunto pizza on Carmine St off 7th Ave South. Thanks for this video, James.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the recommendation! That's a restaurant that I haven't tried yet.
Aside from an amazing luncheon, Italian folklore would say that you were bestowed with a rare and exceptionally benevolent day by having a bird “poo” on you. If you ever saw the delightful movie “Under The Tuscan Sun” with Diane Lane, there’s a scene where she is interested in purchasing a beautiful but worn villa. The owner, an old woman is reticent about selling her home to just anyone. Pidgeons flying indoors. Somehow one of the birds “pooed” on Diane Lane. The superstitious old lady saw that as a spiritual sign of good luck and agreed to sell her home. Superstitious or not consider that bird a good luck omen.
I like that! While I didn't feel too fortunate at the time, I think that it's great to have a positive attitude about the situation.
A bird crapping on you has been a good luck sign for a million years, at least. 😉
That looks like an incredible place. Thanks James!
Thanks for watching! Indeed, it's a great place for pizza.
Excellent review.
Darn bird!!
Good looking food. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks for watching!
Glad to see you after a few days. Hello from Washington
Hello and thank you!
Great review! Wylie is a beast!
Thank you! Absolutely!
Currently eating pizza rn James’s 😂 love ur videos
Nice! Thank you!
I would have been full after the sliders!
Yeah, it's a decent-sized appetizer, but it was really good.
Birds remember certain specific people for there whole lives . If this becomes a pattern you have a new friend.
Haha! Thankfully encounters with birds like that haven't happened to me much.
James, you can really put a good amount of food away. The sliders looked amazing. For me the pizza had too much crust around the ends, but looked good. The crispy crust is my favorite part of any pizza. Another great review, thanks. Cheers!
Cheers and thank you! I agree, that was really my only complaint with the pizza, that there was more crust than I thought was needed, but still, it was a great pizza.
@@Jamesnu Thanks James
Bird doo is good luck. This sounds like a fun place to eat,
Haha! Yeah, I've heard that before. It definitely was a lot of fun at the restaurant.
YUM!!!
😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
It was delicious!
James, pizza shrapnel survivor.
Haha! I did survive the pizza shrapnel, but that bird won that round.
love the content. you got a new subscriber
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Lets go James!
Thank you!
thx you sir
Thank you for watching!
Nice transition with the A-Roll and Bird Poop! Wish WD50 was still around. I can't wait for the Per Se video!
Thank you! I was actually a little bummed that I didn't get the act on camera, but then I thought better of it. No one really wants to see that in a food video. Yeah, I would've loved to have gone to wd-50. The Per Se video is taking pretty long, but hopefully, I'll get it done very soon.
@Jamesnu not enough time in the day, I need to get that Masa video out some day.
@@NoahEats I'm looking forward to that one!
I love it whenever experimental, Avant-garde or even traditional fine-dining chefs can embrace and pull off this kind of casual pivot. (People who love Empellon may not be aware that chef-owner Alex Stupak was a pastry whiz at both Alinea in Chicago and WD-50 here in NYC.) I miss Chef Wylie’s tasting menus at WD-50* but I can’t wait to try Stretch Pizza.
* I have never forgotten the anchovy-cocoa combination. My hand shook slightly when I started to eat it, but it turned out to be wildly delicious. Wonder if that would ever make it as a pizza topping?
I wish I had the chance to dine at wd-50. Some of those dishes sounded so amazing and unique. Yeah, I think it's great too when a fine dining chef shows another side to themselves with a more casual restaurant.
You do great work from the quality of your videos to your content. I was surprised to see how you don’t have at least 50k subscribers having been around for a while(not meant as a knock in any way, but a poorly worded compliment lol).
Also, I see you’re a watchhead, I like your choices of Seiko divers and Orient., good taste.
Thank you! Hopefully more subscribers will come. Indeed, I love watches. They're one of my favorite things to collect. Although, it's tough to really get a good selection of watches since I pretty much spend all of my money on food, haha!
@@Jamesnu I don’t blame you lol. As enjoyable as they are, watches don’t please the taste buds and fill the stomach.
That meatball slider looks damn good !
It was one of the best things I had so far this year!
Looks great. I really don't like sweet bread in a savory dish, especially King's Hawaiian rolls. But that pizza was definitely something I would love to try.
Fair enough. Yeah, the flavor of the pizza was really unique.
I love how you say ''nyurk''...
You know where you are.
I love New York!
Great review! And get some sun brother. You'll look and feel much better...
Thank you! Yeah, I filmed this one during the winter. Thankfully sunny days are ahead.
In Germany, if a bird poops on you, it's considered good luck! :)
Indeed! Although, I didn't feel that lucky.
Lol. The bird crap thing happened on me walking the dogs.
It unfortunately happens.
I enjoyed watching your visit to Stretch Pizza.
Are you open to restaurant suggestions? I would love to see you review Bonci Pizza in Chicago and Piccolo Buco in Oak Brook, IL, the next time you visit the Chicago area. Both restaurants also have locations in Rome.
Thank you! I've actually been to both restaurants and I've really enjoyed them. I even have a video about Bonci, which I uploaded early last year I believe.
I’m stretch. I worked with him as stage. I still can’t bring myself to go there. I can’t believe he named it stretch.
I think there's a video out there of him explaining the name of the restaurant.
Its very good luck to have a bird poop on you! The meatball app looks like a tasty meal themself. The Old Town looks and sounds wonderful!! Very glad you enjoyed a great lunch, go buy a lottery ticket 👍😋
Haha! I didn't feel so lucky after that bird incident, but it was at least a great lunch!
I had to re-watch the video several times but overall I enjoyed your review. I was torn by the choices before you and I think the Stranger or The Reading would have been equally good but seeing the Danny Boy, i would have ordered what you had then drag my family to NYC to try everything else. And if I had my say I would have shot that Pigeon and invented a new pizza topping .....
Haha! Pigeon pizza would be interesting! Yeah, a lot of those pizzas sounded really intriguing and I'm sure I would've enjoyed them just as much or even more than the pizza I chose, but overall, it was a great lunch!
@@Jamesnu glad you got a laugh out of that!
You are an amazing human being! Have you tried out Hamburger America yet?
Thank you! Not yet, but I'll get there and I'll definitely make a video about it.
Dave would give this a 7.1.
I'm surprised that he hasn't reviewed this one yet.
Munster cheese is an excellent substitute for Mozzarella, I use it on my chicken parm.
Indeed! It's a great cheese!
First to view! Lovely :)
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Sorry about the bird doo doo 💩
It happens.
❤
Thanks for watching!
Sensible watch choice.
Thank you! I love that watch!
Sorry I meant goes up again in speed! Not does.
No worries.
What’s a rip off 😂 $24 for a pizza you gotta be kidding me, you can get the same for like 10 bucks here in Spain
Unfortunately, NYC is pretty expensive.
It costs a few hundred dollars round trip from NYC to Spain which would make Spain pizza way more expensive than NYC pizza lol@sunnybeachwalks4k2022
Dude, for NYC, this is borderline cheap. There are places that charge 40 bucks for a plain margherita.
I’d be quite surprised if Wylie’s restaurant, part owned by a bakery, used store bought Hawaiian rolls for their sliders.
Indeed, but those tasted exactly like King's Hawaiian rolls, which isn't a big deal for me since I really like King's Hawaiian rolls.
@@Jamesnu haha gothca
Andy Dufrene, yeah I thought he was in Mexico with Morgan Freeman fixing up that old boat
didn't know pizza got this good
Pizza can be quite amazing!
bronco billy's in Fremont california
If I'm ever in Fremont, I hope I remember that.
Still awaiting Foxface! great vids as always
Thank you! I'll get there eventually.
It's as if Marcel Proust himself wrote a pizza review.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
High end fine dining restaurants must be mentally exhausting to maintain. Little wonder so many top chefs end up being little more than names on the door than actually working in kitchen each day. The allure of pushing everyday dishes like pizza to new heights must seem fun in comparison.
Indeed, being a fine dining chef has got to be a tough job.
Sliders looked great, pizza looked a little dry.
I thought that too before I tried it, but thankfully that wasn't the case. Although, some bits of the crust were just too large.
A bird pooping on you is supposed to be good luck! Good for you for being a good sport!
I've heard that. Luckily, having such a good lunch definitely helped me maintain a positive attitude.
Did I see lv damier graphite bracelet?
I wish! They were just some generic bracelets I got off of Amazon.
@@Jamesnu they look very nice on you wrist!
@@jrcasa7926 Thank you!
The Meatball Sliders looked Fantastic, Pizza, Not so Much. You Want some Real Pizza?! Savage Pizza Atlanta GA. !!!
Those sliders were fantastic! They're literally one of the best things I had this year. Thanks also for the recommendation! I definitely want to travel to Atlanta sometime.
Real pizza is all over NYC ( among the 5 boroughs). I'm sure Savage Pizza in Atlanta GA is very good BUT NYC has GREAT pizza venues.@markmower6507
@@jessedylan6162 Well, like Real Style Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, Actually in Chicago, I get it. But Seriously Savage Pizza is a Whole New Level 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕. Just Google the Menu Already...
I'll never undersand NY prices, 7 dollars for a root beer? 18 dollars for a cocktail? I guess you also need to pay tax and tip on that? Crazy
Yeah, NYC is pricey.
Noice...
Thank you!
I guess the bird disagreed with you about Chef Dufrense.
Haha! Maybe so!
You are a bit slower in this video and it was much better to watch. It can be like a quick one after the other with another bite, for an example with Delmonico’s. The dessert does up again. Take a breath between bites. Cheers. Great video otherwise! I don’t mean to be hyper-critical.
Thank you! I try my best to improve with each video.
@@Jamesnu You do so well. I know videos are difficult to make. You have huge talent!! Have a terrific weekend!! 🙂
@@christinecamley Thank you! Have a great weekend as well!
@@Jamesnu TY!
Apparently, a bird crapping on you is good luck.
Unfortunately, I didn't feel too lucky. Haha!
Sucks that a pizza like this used to be $12 in 2019
I know what mean.
Too much crust.
Yeah, that was pretty much my only problem with the pizza.
this is junk food
It's definitely not healthy food.
Neither was the bird poo, but you ate that too! Haha! @@Jamesnu
NYC all businesses are failing for a very obvious reason
