Eating at LORE. One of the Most Interesting Restaurants in NYC
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лют 2024
- I eat at and review LORE in Park Slope, Brooklyn of New York City. The restaurant serves some very unique food that has a notable Indian influence, but encapsulates flavors from throughout the world. Run by Chef Jay Kumar, LORE is an intimate, but casual fine dining restaurant.

About Me: I live in NYC and I’m about food, travel and work.
When you get comped a dinner somehow I feel like I got something for free as well. I’m really proud of you that you’re getting recognized. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! It was a really nice opportunity and I'm incredibly grateful for it!
Great review James. Nice to see you are getting increased recognition for your work as restaurants now want you to do reviews at their place. Wishing you continued success.
Thank you so much! Indeed! I was really fortunate to get this opportunity.
I really appreciate your reviews for the vigorous emotional and analytical energy you bring. Sometimes I just listen to the audio and somehow that gets my taste buds budding real fast!
Thank you so much!
James "The GOAT" Andrews is back at with another banger. Thank you for blessing us with this. Chef Jay knows what's up, ill be sure to bookmark this one.
Thank you for watching! Yeah, he really created a special restaurant!
I really enjoyed your review of Lore. The food looks amazing and I also appreciated looking over your shoulder at the beautiful wallpaper, showing me the restaurant is as sumptuous as the food and beverage. ❤
Thank you so much! That makes me happy to hear!
Rose water with homemade lemonade is a childhood favorite
Nice! That sounds refreshing!
I was getting so hungry while you were you eating. I look forward to Taste-0-Vision one day!
Haha! Yeah, that would be the greatest invention!
James, you have my absolute respect... even more... due to watches. I don't have to tell you that Seiko is not as well respected due to its history when compared to other Swiss makers. However, in the end, they are heavily reliability, and their craftsmanship is unparalleled in the watch community. Personally, they're a tour de force in watch making with the emphasis on reliability. While many other watch makers ride on their history... Seiko is about advancing technology forward and making watches reliable. The Grand Seiko SBGE253 is one of my favorites. Along with the Rolex DeepSea and DeepSea Challenger (yes, I like a functional large watch). However, Seiko, without question makes one the most reliable automatic watches on the market.
I'm so glad I subscribe to your channel. It's obvious that you're willing to reflect your personal views on various mediums as opposed to going with the flow.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I love watches and I love my Seikos! Indeed, the brand may not be as flashy as others, but you're right, the watches are reliable, well-constructed, and of great value. Those are some nice watches you mentioned. I've got a long list of favorites. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to afford them. Haha!
James, your critique was nothing short of resplendent, a veritable testament to your unparalleled talent for capturing the essence of the most delicate nuances. The eloquence with which you articulate each observation has, I must confess, set my tastebuds alight with anticipation, as if they themselves were guests at this grand feast of words. Truly, your prose has the power to transcend the mere written word, evoking a sensory experience that is both profound and palpably delightful. 🥂😍
Thank you for such a nice comment! I try my best and it means a lot to me when my videos are appreciated. I'm really thankful for the support.
Home Run yet again, James. As someone with severe Anxiety, your videos have a calming effect on me. Keep up the excellent job, my friend!
Thank you so much!
Love your reviews. Getting used to the voiceover which is very unique and actually works! What's some of your favorite places for fried chicken? I like that you eat modestly, and don't take huge bites like most youtubers. Just normal which is kind of rare for youtubers other than Glenn and Friends. I make a mean fried chicken topped with rose petals.
Thank you so much! I love fried chicken! My favorite spots for it in NYC are Pecking House and Charles Pan-Fried Chicken.
Thanks James. That was a terrific review. My PhD advisor was from India and when he invited us grad students to his place for an Indian feast it was sensational in the food, culture and music. Your visit to Lore reminded me of those fine times. Congrats on another excellent overview.
Nice! That sounded like a great time. Thank you for watching!
You sir have it made ... That all looked remarkable.. and you have done an incredible job of leaving one's self or one out of the order... 10/10 will watch again
Thank you so much!
Hello James, This was one very good review ! The management and staff at Lore must be very happy with this. They might have paid for it, but you delivered a professional and sincere critique. I'm a Sri Lankan Australian, and that spice-accented food looked unique and delicious. Kudos to a great chef Jay Kumar and his staff. Poetic, thoughtful name for a restaurant. James, I hope you hit a 100,000 subscribers this year ! You have a quality channel ! All the best ! Mike
Thank you so much! I'm just really thankful that the restaurant was able to provide me with such a nice meal and experience. It really was a pleasure to dine there. Indeed, the way that food was seasoned was fantastic!
James I loved this menu and was stoked for your review. I’m always impressed with your appetite! You really enjoy such diverse cuisine and speak to it eloquently. You are among my favorite food critics on You Tube. I would not be surprised if if you end up at a first rate publication as a food review er. I worked in editorial for many years and I’d hire you in a New York minute wish I still had NYC connections because you sir, are a gem.
Thank you so much! That really makes me happy to hear! I definitely put a lot of effort into my videos and it makes me happy to hear that it's appreciated.
Those sprouts - yes please!
On a side note, enjoyed the music choice for this video. Paired really well.
Yeah, that was a very satisfying side dish! Indeed, I was really happy when I found that song. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
This restaurant sounds intriguing. The fish looks amazing as well as the other courses. So happy you are starting to get comped for your reviews. Excellent job! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, it was a real nice opportunity to have and I'm very thankful for it.
Always a treat when I see a new review. Thanks for your efforts to keep us informed on the New York dining scene. I'll never get to try all the places, but we all sort of do, with your reviews.
Thanks and best wishes, Rich
Thank you so much!
I am so happy that they are rewarding you with free food. Your great quality videos give amazing spotlight to many establishments. It’s good news that you are getting properly rewarded for your great work.
Thank you! Yeah, this was a nice opportunity, which I'm very thankful for.
Loved the video James, I love listening to you and look forward to all your reviews.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
I look forward to every new review everything looked amazing thank you
Thanks for watching! It really was a great dinner!
Appreciate the transparency around comped restaurant visits.
Thank you! Being transparent is the right thing to do.
Wow great review ! I love your videos , really feel like I get a feel for what to anticipate . Thank you ! 🍷
Thank you so much!
Appreciate your consistent thoughtful prep, honest insight and cuisine descriptions.
Thank you so much!
Thanks James, one of your best vlog!!
Thank you for watching!
I love it when I see a notification that you have posted another review! Always fair, unbiased and completely relevant! Well shot and well edited. And the restaurants you choose are fascinating! All the ones that I really want to try! Keep up the great work James!
Thank you so much! I put a decent amount of effort into each video, so it means a lot to me to hear that it's appreciated.
Your channel gives me a comforting feeling, and for this, I thank you.
Thank you! That makes me happy to hear!
What I appreciate about this restaurant is that it has a (relatively) short menu. In fact it could even be shorter, and have a special so the chef can have some fun! That way you know that all ingredients MUST be fresh. This place looks awesome. When a resto has like 50 menu items, I get really scared. I now only eat at places where the menu is very short menus and where chefs like the one here at lore are very passionate about their art.
I know what you mean regarding menu size. Large menus concern me and it often doesn't seem like the quality is there. I'll take quality over quantity any day of the week.
Love how you included your watch as part of the adventure of good food!
I try to incorporate every detail and it was nice to meet another watch collector.
Great review James. Yeah, those dishes look fantastic and unique. I bet it tasted good as it looked.
Thank you! Yeah, the food had the look, but it still delivered on flavor.
Another wonderful review, sir! What a fantastic combination of flavours and cultures! I can see how this is a destination spot. And, Queens to Kings by rail is terrible... Glad it was worth it!
Thank you! Yeah, this place was worth the effort! The flavors I experienced were pretty unique.
finally establishments come up to you to review them
Yeah, it was such a nice opportunity and I'm very grateful for it!
All of that food looks so pretty! The golden utensils are another fun addition.
Yeah, appearance wise that food looked great!
I just stumbled across your channel. Your reviews are absolutely amazing and I love the energy and descriptions you give. I subscribed and will now binge watch all of your videos. 😃
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
@@Jamesnu you are very welcome. Just realized I typed not instead of now. I've seen 7 of your videos so far. Have a wonderful day!
@@TheDjcobra2001 I figured that was what you meant. Thank you and have a great day as well!
Fantastic video as ALWAYS
Thank you!
Thank you for another amazing review James. I really appreciated the historical and personal connection of the restaurant's name to Chef Kumar's birthplace and storytelling. That roti ravioli looked sooo delicious - squash, eggplant, vindaloo sauce and pomegranate all in the same dish..not to mention in a Ravioli?? Just so darn creative , I just wanted to reach into the screen and share a bite.. but I know you wouldn't have wanted to share this delicious dish with anyone!! LOL .
Haha! Yeah, that ravioli was too good for sharing. Haha!
Your review was excellent and the food looked very tasty, but the price was eye watering. Glad you were a guest!
Thank you! Yeah, NYC is pretty costly.
I was so glad that you chose the Ssam as your main. I always try to look at the menu in your videos to see what I would have chosen if I had been in your place. You also picked the desert that I would have chosen. Lore seems like the kind of restaurant that needs multiple visits though I know how hard it is to get to Park Slope from Astoria.
Yeah, I always try to pick the most interesting sounding courses, but you're right, there were so many dishes that I would've loved to have tried.
James: nice, interesting spot with that fusion menu! At $100 it was not a big deal!
Indeed! The restaurant was incredibly unique.
Lovely video James, keep it up 🙏🏻
Thank you!
Enjoyed the review. Glad you made the disclaimer you were being comped for the meal. Always tricky in trying to issue a balanced review without being appreciative that you got a free meal.
Thank you! Indeed, it's important to at least be transparent.
Great review, James. Long time subscriber of yours too. Just noticed you live in Astoria. Being a former Astoria resident myself (and growing up in nearby Whitestone) I’d love to see you do some place in Queens!
Thank you! I definitely plan on featuring some Queens restaurants in the future.
Amazing review, very intriguing restaurant glad it was a great experience!
Thank you! Absolutely! Every course was a real joy to eat.
Wow, this is very close to me and I had never heard of it! I cannot wait to try it out.
It's definitely a place that's worth a try!
love your videos ❤
Thank you so much!
I love your videos about NY restaurants. I miss NY having moved 3 years ago. While Richmond (where I live now) has good restaurants too nothing compares to NY. Come visit sometime. I’ll take you to Lunch Supper.
Thank you! I appreciate the offer!
I went there a couple months ago, it really won me over on the spot. It'll definitely get their Michelin stars someday.
Nice! I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
Everything looked DELICIOUS especially the Fish! 😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
Thank you! Yeah, that fish was special!
The food was absolutely beautiful. I'm not surprised that it tasted as good as it looked.
Indeed! It was a feast for the eyes and palate!
Nice presentation, James.
Thank you so much!
I love when we find a restaurant with what I call a very eclectic menu. That of course assumes the dishes are well executed. That's how I like to prepare a meal when we're having friends over for dinner. Great review James. The only thing missing, no before or after espresso??? What gives? :)
Thank you! Yeah, an espresso would've been nice, but I did finish that dinner pretty late and I didn't want anything to interfere with my sleep schedule. Next time!
The ravioli and the fish looked so good! ☺️
They were two fantastic dishes!
I think the Venn diagram overlap between watch collectors and fine diners is probably quite large, I'm another one! I've been to 3 1* Indian restaurants now and enjoy their takes on various regional cuisines with local ingredients but one that's been on my wishlist for some time just gained a second star yesterday (Gymkhana in London) so looking forward to visiting that one even more now.
Nice! Yeah, I heard the UK stars were unveiled the other day. It definitely makes me want to take a trip there.
Lore looks incredible! Great review!! & Have you ever been to Tatiana near Lincoln Center? I keep seeing so much about it on social media.
Thank you! No, I haven't been to Tatiana yet, but I've heard so much about it and I definitely will go there in the future.
The ravioli looked delish. It definitely looks like they have something for everyone. On a completely unrelated note, where did you get that blue shirt? Really like the color. You're inspiring me to buy one.
That ravioli was so good! I can't remember where I got that shirt, but I really like that color.
Hi James, just FYI, when you eat ssam, you're meant to take it all in one bite. You don't HAVE to, of course, but if you eat with Koreans they will silently judge you if you eat your ssam in multiple bites like a taco. Great video, as always!
Thank you! Yeah, I was aware of that. It's just that some of those lettuce pieces were so big that I didn't want it to overwhelm the fish inside it.
Very eclectic menu.👍
Absolutely! It was very unique.
Looks amazing - I don’t like sprouts but even those looked delicious!
It was really good!
Great review as always. To bad the mint died before serving 😅
Thank you!
Hi James. Thanks for another enjoyable restaurant review! Tough ask, but would it be possible for you to dedicate just 10 secs of your future videos to show/describe whatever watch you are wearing? You're not the only horologist that also enjoys eating out. There might be others here that would enjoy seeing your watch collection over time. 😁
Thank you! I'll keep it in mind. I just don't have the largest watch collection, but if I get a new one, I'll try to point it out.
Congrats James. You are in demand. NYT will be hiring you next.
Thank you! Haha! I wish!
Hi James, I really like your videos ! Any suggestions for a good place in Chicago downtown ?
Thank you! When I was there last month I went to Bavette's Bar & Boeuf and loved it! I'll have a video about it in the future.
I have wanted to comment on your watch. I still own my grandmother's Seiko my grandfather bought for her in 1976.
Nice! One of the best parts about good watches is that they last and can be passed from one person to the next.
You are definitely a member of the "clean plate club."
A clean plate is what I strive for!
I have to say that that place looks fantastic. Not usually into fusion type of cuisine, but It looks to me like I would really enjoy it.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but the food here really seemed thought out and it delivered on flavor.
@@Jamesnu Actually I was 21 cooking at a BBQ restaurant, and after I got off work one night I was waiting for a bus and I smelled something delicious and discovered Indian Cuisine for the first time. My favorite is Goat Biryani, and also Goat Vindaloo. But that Curry smell drew me in over 25 Years Ago! Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!
@@markmower6507 Nice! Yeah, that's a powerful smell!
@@Jamesnu Also happened to coincide with the first time that I discovered Jonnie Walker Double Black Scotch... Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!
@@Jamesnu I ended up eating at that Restaurant for Years and my Mother too. One night I showed up and someone said that they were closed for a private party. The Owner showed up and recognized me and invited me in explaining that it was a wedding ceremony. It was a really Joyful wedding ceremony. Very different than some of the ones I have been too... Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!
please do a meetup in nyc!!!!
Maybe one day.
Can you make a video regarding what you do for your day job, apartment tour, and whatnot?
Sure maybe he can give you his phone number, social security number and address as well?
Yes please! Would love this.
I've actually made an apartment tour video about a year or so ago. If I get a new apartment, I'll definitely film a tour.
Cool that you noted watch enthusiasts. Noticed your SKX and Orient while watching your reviews. What is the next watch you are looking to add to your collection?
That's a tough one. I'm debating between a few like the Hamilton Khaki Field watch and the Swatch Blancpain collaboration.
@@Jamesnudo you like Ulysses Nardin? If I had the money I would pick up one of their Classico Enamel watches
@@trentbateman I do. That's a beautiful watch!
I can definitely see this place getting a Michelin star in the future
It's definitely a good restaurant!
Love the channel and loved this video and your reviews are spot on.
I do seo
if you do like top 5 or top 10 of some of the burger or my top 10 Michelin Star restaurants I've eaten at.
and just use the clips you already have done.. "my top 10 steak restaurants in New York City" or "my Top 5 steak restaurants in NYC you love when visit America, food tourist guide" etc
And use some hashtags and some keywords in your title drop them casually in and descriptions words like #food, foodie, food critic, food blogger, restaurant tourist destinations, restaurant critics, restaurants reviews, food reviews, new york city restaurants, food travel destinations, best restaurants to go to in...NYC, texas etc, USA, American steak restaurants, new York steak restaurants.
You smash it and get more views as top 10 or 5 lists do the best on you tube.
Just friendly advice as I do seo for many websites and on you tube.
Free advice as love the channel.
Keep up the cracking work 🎉🎉👊👊👊
Oh and put Celebrity chef restaurant in title of Michelin star restaurants...works a treat for too
Thank you so much and I really appreciate the suggestions! I probably will do some lists like that in the future, but I feel like I need to eat at far more restaurants to be able to give some good comprehensive lists, but it's definitely something that is on my mind now.
Indeed!
Caramel is a three-syllable word - car a mel. Enjoyed the review, thought.
Yes, thank you!
Not necessarily. It can be pronounced as two-syllables as in car mull.
@@mistergrendel32Spell it and tell me how you get "carmul" out of that if you're a native English speaker. "Carmel" is a town in California.
@@jg90049 I am going by the Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary.
kar-mel with two dots over the a as in “cart”and upside down e as in “less.”
🤓
Cool Name/Theme
Indeed!
I won’t pay for Brussels sprouts. They are acidic and don’t do well for me. The rest of your dishes looked great. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
Did you go by yourself? Looks like a good date night spot.
It was just me, but yeah, it definitely seems like a great place for a date.
A nice supper. Cozy restaurant with snow outside … what’s bluer that shirt or your eyes 👁🌚
Indeed! It was a cold winter day out, but inside the restaurant, it was warm and inviting.
Looked good but the starter and main were way to small a portion for a tall and big guy like me.
Yeah, the portion could've been larger, but the smaller size does allow one to try more food, but that also unfortunately means it will cost more.
gotta drop a $40 tip on a comped meal
Yeah, I wish that I tipped a bit more.
James how do you film and not get self conscious lol?
I guess it comes from filming so many videos already. I used to be pretty self conscious about it.
I could never be objective for a free dinner
I definitely get that. I'm just really glad that I liked all the food. Otherwise I would've felt terrible making any strong criticisms.
So proud you are not chewing with your mouth wide open... Although i just started the video so i dont know as of yet.
I try my best.
@Jamesnu great reviews, sir! Much respect. I wouldn't have touched that appetizer as well if I was confused about who it belonged to. "Different video." Keep up the classy work. By the way, ask the Lord to provide you with the woman he wants you with and watch it happen!
So tell us James... How does it feel to be so popular? 😊 Love your videos!!
Haha! Thank you so much!
too much fusion .
Normally, I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to fusion if it's not focused, but I thought that Lore was pretty well done.
