for any beginner bassist i would recommend this song to practice! and "come as you are" from nirvana. you learn a lot out of those two songs.

I just started playing bass 3 weeks ago and I can already play this. And 3 more songs (one of them just for fun). This is amazing! If you ever start doubting yourself, it’s fine. You can’t be good right at the start. I’m taking lessons every week AND learning from videos like this. Don’t give up! I surly am not :)

quick question I have a jazz bass and I was wondering how to get the tone like you did I see that you also have j pickups
I believe I just used compressor and played a little with equalizer. Nothing too crazy

Yes
Well, considering the fact that the whole song is just played on the E and A strings (Eb and Ab in this case), you can just tune those down to save the hassle of having to retune all 4 of your strings to standard tuning when you are playing almost anything else.

So how do you do the ~12 do you write from 0 to 12 or start from somewhere else them slide to 0? Or is it something else?
It looks like he is starting the slide from the 3rd fret since that was the last spot he played before the open chord.

Hey so your bass is tuned to standard EADG tuning probably. This song requires to tune every string half step down to D#G#C#F#. It is very easy to do, you can use smartphone tuning app

In the little pre-chorus, the --7--5-- ... --7--5--0-- it feels like you're playing an extra note, but you only have 5 listed, are you 100% there's not an extra note in there missing? It sounds super weird to do a quick 7-5, pause, 7-5-0...

If I correctly understood which sound you are talking about, it should be post production bass synth sound with some effects. Might be wrong, but it doesn't sound like a bass guitar did this at least in the album version. You want to play it?

I keep my bass in tune, use it correctly, and still none of my notes sound similar to any part of any tutorial

my base wont go that low- it works for any other song- what could I be doing wrong?
You need to tune your bass to Eb Ab Db Gb. It is half step down to all the strings.
