As a teen, i never used Conditioner. I honestly don't really know why, i just thought it wasn't nessecairy cuz no one ever told me what a conditioner actually does. My hair felt so dry and brittle back then and i was also dyeing it, which obviously didn't help the health of my hair at all. A few years back, i started getting into skincare due to my acne problems, which simultaniously also let me to haircare videos and my skin and hair have never looked and felt this good. I've done my research and finally found products and a routine that works great for my hair.
Omg yay! It’s great that you found a routine that works for you now! conditioner can make such a big difference. i’m glad your skin and hair are looking and feeling their best.🤍✨🍯
Silicone free free shampoo has dried my hair out 💯 once I started using a shampoo and hair mask with silicone…my hair had sooo much more moisture and shine. No breakage too! Also you are the reason I purchased and have been using the Aegean oil Amazon hair mask…and let me tell you it changed my entire life. I’ve since purchased 7 times…you’re the hair goat 🐐
i had the same problem! silicone free dried my hair out always everytime so i use a silicone shampoo but make sure to use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up as well

nobody talks about sulfates and silicones and teaches how to use them effectively and how not to use it everyday. It's been 10+ years and now I know what to do and what not to do with my hair. All Thanks to Audrey for debunking all these myths.

Check out Abbey Yung too! She also focuses on science based hair care, and iirc she's in the process of becoming a certified trichologist (hair scientist). She just did an absolutely fascinating test with a VERY pricey heat styling system that goes by "The Repronizer." So interesting. She's also a complete goofball, lol. And if you're into fake tanning she has a lot of content on that as well.
The curly girl method almost ruined my hair. It was awful. My hair got so much better when I added back some products with silicone. Like you, I use some sulfate free and sulfate products. They have their place in a good hair routine. I LOVE my hair masks. I use one every week.
I've heard so many people say that. There was a no oils and butters method a while back too that was giving people the most insane split ends I'd ever seen.
I have curly hair (and I straighten it weekly). Ever since I began to use products with Silocone my hair got way better - with or withouh wearing my curls
Silicones and sulfates play their part in a products formulation. Yes it may not be the best for everyone but this is one of the major problems with social media and how it villainizes individual ingredients.
I swim a lot since I want to be a marine biologist and for my hair I prefer to use “organic” products with no silicones and virgin coconut oil. The reason is I don’t want to pollute the environment when I swim in a lake or in the sea, so I look for formulas that are the most environment-safe, with as many “natural” ingredients as possibile, and coconut oil does a great job at protecting my hair when I swim without being dispersed in the water because it’s liposoluble.
I love the dove 10 in 1 hair masks along with the Pantene deep moisture hair mask.... both of those work so well for my medium but thin/ fine hair without weighing them down. I can put them on the roots as well, and I can still go 4-6 days between washes depending on the type of shampoo and conditioner I use. I typically use a hair mask when I use a clarifying shampoo and conditioner (live, love, locks weightless shampoo and conditioner or loreal ever pure clarifying shampoo and conditioner). When I use a bond repair shampoo and conditioner (her liason bond repair or loreal ever pure bond strengthening shampoo/ conditioner), I use a bond repair pre poo (loreal ever pure bond repair).
Wow! This one is a great video! I have made almost all the mistakes that you've mentioned and unfortunately, a lot more 😅 1) For about 10 years, I straightened my hair without a heat protectant cuz back then we dint have a lot of UA-cam videos and stuff and I had no idea something like that existed. My hair is still recovering from that awful damage. So even if I apply a ton of heat protectant in my hair now and use a straightener, there's a lot of breakage and split ends. K18 is a savior for me. 2) Sleep with henna in my hair overnight. 3) Dint let conditioner stay longer that 5-6 seconds cuz I was so impatient to stay in the shower for 2 min 😅 4) Straighten my hair when it was wet. I dont why did I believe that when the hair sizzled, it's a good thing. After correcting these mistake, and taking better care of my hair, I see a ton of good difference.
I was told from hair stylist that coconut oil makes your hair oily when you apply it to roots or scalp and it’s not for thin hair (what’s true it’s not for thin hair)
My biggest mistake for years and years was that I thought I had a dry scalp. It didn't matter how much I washed it it always felt itchy right the next day. In time I realized... I just wasn't scrubbing my scalp hard enough or for long enough to make it really clean. Once I changed that, presto, I no longer had "dry", itchy scalp because the whole time it was simply dirty. Doh.
Omg thank you for adding the products you recommend into this video. I will be following this advice and I am noticing mistakes I've been doing too. I washed my hair last night and its been in a bun all day and its still wet which is something I will never do. I also have been using cheap products which is causing me to suffer in appearance and comfort. I over comb my hair which will noticeably make it frizzy which I will stop. Thank you again for this video!!

Thank you very much for sharing your mistakes. I been doing exactly the same ones for about 2 years. I been washing my hair with only ayurvedic powder (amla shikakai) They wash my hair very good and my hair been growing very fast. The problem is, I was skipping conditioning for the same reason then you and now my hair looks very frizzy. They use to be nice and flat. I will start using conditioner again. I also had bad experience with coconut oil! But I will try it again just one my ends. Thank you!
I’ve been dying to try Olaplex, but I’m just confused by the numbering of it and I was curious which numbers you use for bond treatment. Thank you in advance 💖
I do the curly girl method but when I started I had no problem using silicones. The reason why I gave them up is because I get way more defined ringlets when I do not use silicones. Silicones are probably fine for most people and I never had any kind of build up from them.
Im a girl with same hair type as you, i use coconut oil and shampoo, and a homemade hair mask with fenugreek seed, rice and lemon juice, it does amazing to my hair made my hair more smooth and frizz free, i dont use conditioner, i only use them like once in a year? And i dont felt anything, i dont also use hair heating tools
Question: what do you think about hair dye? Especially when it comes to growing your hair. Theres so many different points of views. Can you suggest leave in hair conditioners from L’Oréal, tresemme, garnier , ogx and other drugstore brands? For very very frizzy hair in high humid climate
Would really love a video about your adhd and ocd. As someone who suffers severely with both, I think your video will be very helpful! Food for thought💗
I had the sun balayage too!!! I thought it was inevitable and loved how my ends were practically auburn but looking at old photos my hair looked so limp!
Conditioner makes my hair greasy, heavy feeling, however instead i used leave in conditioners and hair oil. I’m not sure if its the same as using a conditioner in the shower?
Audrey, can you make a video only on the hair types, low, medium and high porosity and what shampoo/conditioners to use according to the hair type. 20 years ago, I bought the shampoo and conditioner, Biolage, the big giant bottle combo. When I stopped using it , I noticed it dried my hair out, no shine just dry brittle hair. I am 52 today, I have always had shiny hair, just that when I stopped using Biolage, it became dried, brittle, dull. Never again I tried that brand. Then I did the strand test to see what hair type I have. It’s low porosity. Now I use Shea Moisture, Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and conditioner. It’s has no sulfates, no parabens, no phthalates. I noticed that when I wash my hair with it, it kind of comes back to life but not fully. I avoid coconut and castor oil s they are too heavy for my hair type. I use rosemary oil combined with jojoba oil and do oiling with it for like an hour then use a clarifying shampoo and intensive hair mask called Hairitage. So please help to recover the lost sheen I used to have. Thanks Audrey.
Washing hair frequency depends on your life style. There are people who workout in the morning and have a job that is mannual labor and get dirty and sweaty.
I have high porosity hair and frizz and I don't know what to do to stop frizz because I have straight hair like you and my hair used to be like yours naturally and now it's become more frizzy so how do I stop frizz? Thank you!
Frizz means that the cuticles of your hair are not laid down. It may also mean that your hair is trying to absorb moisture from the air instead of being satisfied in itself. So the solution would be to focus on your moisturising routine and find out what is not working, most likely an oil or so.
Hi Audrey, i really like all the advice you give.. feels very realistic in this world where everyone says only use sulfate and silicone free products and you'll be good.. now i have an oily scalp and dry ends and i've been trying to incorporate leave in creams... i always find that they end up making my ends more dry. Please suggest something. i have low porosity hair.
hi!! i’m glad you find my advice helpful. for low porosity hair with an oily scalp and dry ends, try using lightweight leave-in conditioners or sprays instead of heavy creams. also, make sure to apply the product only to the ends of your hair to avoid buildup. Also try using a clarifying shampoo once a week or so to help with the oily scalp. hope this helps!🤍✨🍯
When I was younger I used to think that conditioners are optional and it's not necessary to use them at all.. I spent many years using only shampoos and used to wonder : hmmmm why my hair is always so dry ? Now I can't live without conditioners.. If I was running out of shampoo I wouldn't freak out like when I run out of conditioner 😅
What’s shampoo do you regularly use. Like not to clarify. I have similar hair and I’m trying to take care of it and find some good decent prices products. I was using L’Oréal bond repair shampoo, loved it except I noticed more hair fall out after about a month. So I stopped. Then bounced around from salon quality ones. But can’t seem to get a good one. Now I’m using herbal essence rose hip and my hair is literally falling out so much more than before. So I have to buy another one. Was thinking of trying the herbal essence frizz control one you mentioned in another video I think. Idk what to do. I hate trial and error for hair products and face products lol
olaplex no.7 bonding oil can we leave it in ? Also is it safe to use ? Mixed feelings on using it cuz saw videos of people saying bad about brand too. So please can you tell me exactly all I need to know about it?
Hi I was just watching a video you made a while ago where you mentioned double conditioning for shiny hair, do you still do that? That video was the first I’ve ever heard of that, I think you should mention it more cuz it sounds like a good hack but most people probably wouldn’t think it would make a difference because it seems redundant
Hi Audrey, I have low porosity hair and have very dried/brittle hair since a couple of years already. What products do you recommend to get that healthy shine back into my hair and that will retain moisture? I have below shoulder length hair. I always have it tied back because it’s just useless my hair the way it looks. I am also a brunette just like you. I hope you can suggest which products I can use for low porosity. Thanks a million! 😊
I'm not an expert in any way but dry brittle hair that does not retain moisture may be high porosity hair. The porosity of your hair can change depending on the product you have on it. In any case, low po hair acting high po may be a sign of the hair shaft being damaged. you may need bond repair products. Although, bond repair can damage low po hair if it is healthy😬

Do I need bond repair if I don’t heat style (I air dry! No tools) & I’m kind of scared of using bonding products I’m scared of my hair falling out from bond products. Are they 💯 necessary? Can anyone please chime in plz? My hair is virgin (no color/highlights/bleach etc) 2C I don’t goto salons much my mom trims it once in awhile so no stylist has ever commented on me needing bonding shampoo. I always say “sell me some products if I need it” so I’ve never had it suggested. Interesting on sun damage! I’m allergic to the sun so that’s not gonna affect me. I totally understand the “washing ur hair too much” my hair is so much better now that I wash every week! Or a little longer. I’m taking the cheapest adult multi vitamin gummies from the pharmacy (the pharmacist recommended) & 10,000 mcg biotin & my hair is so thick & getting the longest it’s been! It was shocking because I’m dieting so my nutrition could be a lil low. Ur hair looks amazing and surprisingly im not doing any of these mistakes! Except the bond stuff. The CGM is mostly bs for my hair. I also use rice water on my hair to make it grow every couple of nites & on wash day. I’m a big fan of shampoo bars but rn I’m using Native I have like 7 scents they all supposedly do diff things (volume or shine or curly etc) I don’t know about u guys but my hair gets bored of the same products ! It stops giving me those great results I had in beginning is that normal?
I actually tried a Brazilian Blow out (its kinda like a keratin treatment, but not permanent). When I left the salon they told me if I wanted it to last, use salon quality "smoothing" or "color safe" shampoo and conditioner because the whole purpose of those is to provide extra moisture to dry or chemically processed hair. By now the BBO has washed out and I haven't gone back because just using those salon quality products has made doing my hair so easy and less frizzy, so I didn't feel the need for another treatment. Secondly, I have 3c - 4a hair. I chopped all my hair off in 2014 and went years without heat. I used and made all kinds of "Natural" products, bought every curly hair product you could think of, constantly spraying and wetting my hair because they say that's the best way to take care of curly hair. The only time my hair looked good and held a style is when I went to go get it professionally done and they had me sit under the hooded drying for 1-2 hours to "set" my curls. Or when I lived in Vegas I could literally walk outside and let the heat dry my hair. I currently am a straight natural because I touch it less, once its done... its done. No rewetting, refreshing curls, brushing and styling edges. We have things like the Dyson and thermal round brushes that stretch my hair with one pass. I sleep in a heatless curls rollers and my hair looks great for 2 weeks if I don't workout that much. I agree that hair oils and hair grease/coconut oil can help with growth and protection. But speaking from personal experience, the more red meat and fish I eat - the longer and healthier my hair is. I was looking up the vitamins and minerals that are used in the hair growth gummies I used to buy. After 5 seconds on google I realized all that stuff is abundant in meat. It also helped me lose a little weight because once you start eating more proteins, you're not really hungry vs when I used to eat salads all the time, I would be starving in an hour. Sometimes 20min after eating.
Just got to the part about Iron and hair shedding. Again to my point... wanna know what has a lot of Iron (that our bodies can actually absorb easily)??? Meat lol
Pleasseee i need help, I have a really oily scalp causing my hair to be oily after like a day. Im using clarifying shampoo twice a week as my dermatologist said, but i wanna do everything to help my hair because im sickkkk of going to school with oily hair 😭 ive tried training too and nothing seems to work, except taking pills for the rest of my life and thats a no no for me, does anyone have any typs on how to maintain a oily scalp ??
make sure to always double shampoo! the first one is removing the build up and the second one is clarifying, this should help with it not getting oily so fast! also not to go against what your dermatologist said, but maybe even try for 2 weeks or so only washing your hair once a week! hope this helps!
@@LittleHouseEdits_812 ive always shampood twice, but i will try out washing my hair once a week, do u maybe also have any anwser to why my shampoo never foams the first time? its like i just put it on and nothing happens 🥲
I’m going to counter the conventional advice, as someone who’s hair gets oily fast (1-2 days). When I tried training, I saw no improvement just oilier hair and more build up. But maybe instead of using the clarifying shampoo frequently, wash your hair more frequently with a gentle and moisturizing shampoo. I find clarifying shampoo great when you have a lot of build up, but if the oil is going to come regardless a lighter wash more frequently might be best. We all know you don’t want to over wash your hair, but once it’s too oily it’s time to wash. For some people that just happens faster than others. I’d also apply oil treatment to the ends on wash days to counter any extra shampooing.
Thank you very much for your very interesting Video. Please can you make a Video about your nightroutine with your hair? Thanks and greetings from Germany
Rosemary oil mask and massage your hair, wrap it in plastic film for at least 2 hours, at least once a week.. Add Argan oil and sweet almond oil for softness.. Good luck
Hi I'm a girl that's a kid and last year I used to have long hair up to my but. But I made a mistake by cutting it a little bit more down to my shoulder its bing growing but I feel like its not growing. Do u have any suggestions?
Silicones aren't necessary imo and they just sit on the hair and build up and block moisture from penetrating your hair. As someone with curly hair, I avoid it but sulfates are necessary to properly remove buildup that regular shampoo doesn't remove
Every single silicone does not build up on the hair. That’s a myth. Some silicones are water soluble, thus wash out with water only. Some evaporate completely into the air. The ones that do build up can however easily be removed with sulfate free shampoos. Because sulfate free cleansers can still be as effective.
According to one of her videos about this, her experience with the Brazilian keratin treatment was one of her worst mistakes as it damaged her hair ect.
3 years ago I had one done. It has completely grown out. It didn’t damage my hair, however I do regret it only because I didn’t need to get it done because my hair was already smooth, soft etc
Everyone has different hair types and not everything that works for you might not work foe others and it can be other way round So talk foe yourself lady

Hi Audrey ! May I ask what hair dye and color you use ?? Pleeeease Your hair is so gorgeous 😍
Please respond, please let me know when you do use a hairdryer. Do you put it on hot or cold?
Hii, if you use or know some good leave in conditioners, can you make a video on that? It would really help 🥰
Washing hair frequency depends on your life style. There are people who workout in the morning and have a job that is mannual labor and get dirty and sweaty.
True, but for those people I would recommend an everyday shampoo that is meant to be for everyday use so it does not dry out the hair.

So the solution would be to focus on your moisturising routine and find out what is not working, most likely an oil or so.
i love the cat cup!!
@@AudreyVictoriado you know any good clarifying shampoos on a budget?

Awesome video as always Audrey!
Thank u!!!
Yayyyy just in time for hair wash day! 👏🏼🎉
But how can I find out, what hair type or scalp type I have?
olaplex no.7 bonding oil can we leave it in ?
Can you use hair masks with the same ingredients instead of conditioner?
conditioner leaks out! lock it with leave ins!
I just can't find a good one at the drugstore for a reasonable price! Do you have any recommendations??

How do you know if your hair actually has texture or if it's the result of damage?
@Audrey how often would you suggest for people to use a hair mask?
Do I need bond repair if I don’t heat style (I air dry! No tools)
& I’m kind of scared of using bonding products I’m scared of my hair falling out from bond products.
Meat lol
Hey Audrey! Welcome back! ❤
Love love your videos, I have learned so much from you , I appreciate you ❤❤❤
hair care is underrated and skincare is overrated. Go Audrey, please teach me more about protecting my hair
I agree but I do love skincare too lol
As for me sulfates are drying my hair sm and make my scalp itchy (I have 3a curly hair) I bought sulfate-free shampoo and I feel really good after)
I love your hair and it looks healthy ❤
Can you use hair straightener if you are using silicon based products?
Yes
Please do you recommend herbal essences shampoo with Arabica coffee fruit my hair is curly
Every time I go to the hairdresser they tell me not to use products with silicone in it. I just don’t understand it
Pleasseee i need help, I have a really oily scalp causing my hair to be oily after like a day.
Same 🥲
make sure to always double shampoo! the first one is removing the build up and the second one is clarifying, this should help with it not getting oily so fast! also not to go against what your dermatologist said, but maybe even try for 2 weeks or so only washing your hair once a week! hope this helps!
@@LittleHouseEdits_812 ive always shampood twice, but i will try out washing my hair once a week, do u maybe also have any anwser to why my shampoo never foams the first time? its like i just put it on and nothing happens 🥲
Your shampoo might be too harsh. This can make your hair more oily quicker then you have to watch fir scalp skin infections starting. 🎉

Can you make a makeup tutorial
I can’t use most of these products because they all have fragrances
i love your hair care routine
Silicones aren't necessary imo and they just sit on the hair and build up and block moisture from penetrating your hair. As someone with curly hair, I avoid it but sulfates are necessary to properly remove buildup that regular shampoo doesn't remove
Agree it's not NECESSARY, but for some of us it really is great for our hair, even if we need to wash with a bit more of a clarifying shampoo
Every single silicone does not build up on the hair. That’s a myth. Some silicones are water soluble, thus wash out with water only. Some evaporate completely into the air. The ones that do build up can however easily be removed with sulfate free shampoos. Because sulfate free cleansers can still be as effective.

Did you get a keratin treatment? How do you get your hair to be really shiny?
According to one of her videos about this, her experience with the Brazilian keratin treatment was one of her worst mistakes as it damaged her hair ect.
3 years ago I had one done. It has completely grown out. It didn’t damage my hair, however I do regret it only because I didn’t need to get it done because my hair was already smooth, soft etc
Wow..2nd view💗💗💗
