Thank you so much for shinning light on solving my issue today. I actually bought a car a month ago and didn't realize the tire needs a key. I will definitely try your technique.
Hello, I just to offer a HUGE thank you. My son had a flat 2 hours from home, luckily got into a parking lot, and evidently after his recent oil change - tire rotation, the place forgot the key. We had to go to a Lowe's and buy the tools...but thanks to YOU knew how to take care of this. We literally just got home and the first thing our whole family wanted to do, is say THANK YOU.
I had a lock nut (circular lock) that was on my rear wheels, bought the car from a dealership at a good price but they didn’t know where the key was. Tried multiple kits for removing and couldn’t get it to work. I saw this video at dinner, dropped my spaghetti on the floor and ran to my car. Popped the trunk, grabbed my cheap Pittsburg 12 point socket set, and the 3lb hammer. Dumped it onto the lock nut and hit it with a breaker bar: and wouldn’t you believe it: it came off. Both came off easily and I instantly went to buy replacement lug nuts and changed the brake pads while able to. Thank you for this amazing trick!
HUGE THANKS! I tore my car and house apart looking for that key so I could replace a ball joint. I used your method but added a bit of heat to move things along and that lug came right off! This deserves to be the top rated wheel lock removal video.
Thank you, couldn't change my tire for a week, went to auto parts store and couldn't find the right one then ordered one on Amazon and turned it to be the wrong one, watched your video and was able to get it off, thank you🎉🎉🎉🎉
This worked great! It cost me $45 in tools, but the repair shop wanted $80 to remove these on my newly purchased used car. So still saved $ and got tools to keep. A couple of tips. I had to use a 13/16 socket. 19mm was too small and 22 too large. Also, the worst part was getting the acorns out of the socket. I ended up tightening them hand tight on the wheel stud and gingerly tapping them, one direction and then another to hopefully prevent bending or damaging the stud. Worked great. Wish I hadn't wasted half hour banging on that pesky screw!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I bought a car a year ago and didn't realize that each tire had a lock on it. After waking up to a flat tire this morning, I found out the hard way that I had no key to remove it. This trick worked like a charm!
Dealership installed the locks with too much torque. I broke the key trying to get them off. The key stripped out and broke. Now I have to remove the security lugnut without a key. This helped out a ton and saved me $$ trying to replace the broken key. Thank you!
I was going to install a new brake kit, all 4, and this was the only barrier in the way! I didn’t have a dam key for my wheels, some of us do have legit reasons
Yo I absolutely agree. Just use this method to take off three on my wife's Murano. These suckers are plastic and actually just broke apart while trying to rotate the wheels. This video was absolutely helpful.
I spent 2 hours going to different tire shops to see if they could take off the wheel locks on my back tires so I could get a flat replaced. After I saw your video I had them off in about 10 min. Thank you so much guys!
Thanks so much for sharing this trick! I lost the tool a few months ago. Toyota wanted me to leave the car (no way I’m turning that into a service visit). The place I bought my tires warned me they may damage the wheels if they try to remove the lock. I watched your video, dug around in my tool box and found a nice 3/4 in 12 point socket, and this worked perfectly!
Thank you for this video. The dealer wanted to charge an hour of work at $195 per, and the tire shop wanted $30 per wheel. This saved me at least $120. Instead of a bolt, you can use a center punch that comes with a chisel set at harbor freight.
Thanks for the video!! the dealership was charging me $140 with no guarantee that my aftermarket wheels would not get damaged. A local tire shop was charging me $40 with the same no guarantee. I did it my self with the tools I already had.
I'm sure thieves already know how to remove wheel locks. I, however, bought a Camaro with wheel locks and it came without a key. I welded a nut to the lock and it came right off. This method is a lot easier and I wish I had thought of it. Great tip guys!
Thank you so very much , my son purchased a car on April 20, 2019 and about 2 weeks ago found out it had lock lug bolts and after contacting old owner said he doesn't know what happened to it , your a God send , Thank you so much again and Aloha from Joey in Honolulu Hawaii
Thanks Guys! My little brother bought a 2005 Pontiac GTO with low profile wheel locks and had a tire rot blow out (original tires)... He didn't think to ask the former owner for the wheel key when he bought it from California... Let's just say this trick worked like a charm! Much love from North Carolina, USA and you've gained another follower :)
Thank you thank you thank you. I lost my wheel lock key after changing my breaks. Left the key on the wheel lock as I was tightening up the rest of the lugs, was in a rush and completely forgot about it and drove off. This is saving me a trip to the mechanic. Thanks.
Thank you very much. I have lost the socket. I called my Toyota dealer to see if they could help me as I want to change my car to the winter tires. They told me that only they could do it and I have to take it into them to fix. I don't like been told what to do. Your video has saved me. I did what you said and it worked out great ( although it was hard to are them off the smaller socket). Thanks again
Thanks for the tip guys! I misplaced my key for my Ram 1500 that had Mopar locking lug nuts. They are the ones that have a rotating sleeve on them. Some people mentioned here that this technic not going to work with this kind of nuts. First I used a slight smaller socket like they showed(I think 1"). It destroyed the sleeve and made it easy to remove. Than I used a smaller socket (18 mm) than the first one and it worked!
another trick in combination with this one .. is to retighten the other wheel nuts on that wheel .. this may tend to reduce the tightness of the locking nut.
Thank you for creating this video. Took my car for inspection, failed inspection for rear brakes. Speedy-Midas wanted $400 +. Took the car to my tire shop for repair $100; I'm not kidding. The nightmare began; the lugnut lock key wasn't in my car. I returned to Speedee to find they had kept it. It was also broken, Speedee agreed to replace it; this took over a month, I'm not kidding. I took the lock key to my tire shop, it did not work ! Frustrated, I youtubed the fix, your video demonstration is the process I used to remove the round keyed nuts. By the way, the 'Speedee-Midas' inspector brought out a handful of various examples of 'keys' for the 'locknuts' to determine which was mine. If you don't have your 'key' to remove the 'locknut' you will be in grave trouble when you have a flat or for any other purpose you may have a need to remove a wheel. I used this same method to remove all key lock nuts from my car.
This worked wonderfully and cost me 8 dollars for a socket and barley any time. Way less of a hassle than finding my key or bringing it to the dealer ect. I was in a world of hurt and this solved my problem. Thanks!
This video, saved me hours of work removing 4 locks on my Hyundai ... Thank you so much for the video, its still current even though it was produced 7 years ago
Thank you!! Bought a car recently and wanted to change brakes rotate wheels but they never provided the stupid key -_- Manufacturer does not make the key any longer, everyone wants to take them off for $80+ and they won't do it unless they sell me new locking lugs. Yall just saved me some money lol!
Dear. This is permanantly perfect way! I did my 4 nuts this way. And now I can easily check wheel related things. So thank you. One thing I want to say is I used 5kg dumbel instead of hammer. Exact aiming of hammer-especilly heavy-is pretty hard. So I did pile drive by dumbel. Little motion, but exact and enough power.
Wow, awesome, thx. My wheels are locked on the same way. Bought the car slightly used and found no lug key when I got it home. Had no Idea how I was going to rotate the tires, let alone fixing a flat tire on the side of the road... very helpful video.
Ordered a replacement from Infiniti...key didn’t fit. Went to two shops, one tried and failed, the other said $300 to do all 4 wheels. Drove down the street and bought two 19mm 12-point sockets for $12, hammered them on, locks are off. This video saved my life (and $300).
Thank you so much!! While changing my tires for winter, I broke my lock nut on the 3rd wheel and I was stuck 😭 With your trick it was so easy to remove the safety nuts. It was actually scarily WAY too easy. The hardest part was to remove the nut from the socket 🤣
I want to say to you young man thank you very much I spent an hour and a half looking in my car trying to find the key and your solution worked thank you so much God bless you and your family and happy holidays my brother
This video was a LIFE SAVER!! My dad and son just took 4 wheel locks off my son's car in less than an hour, and that is with going to Lowes to buy a long screw to bang the wheel lock out of the socket. Thanks for this video!
THANKS A LOT !!!! Using your hint, i finally removed a security wheel lug. For info, for Toyota RAV4 original security nut (20.3mm diameter), use a 19mm TWELVE POINT socket and drive it in with a small sledgehammer. Suggestion: Use an extension to make sure that the socket is driven straight inline with the nut when starting driving the socket. Then, the extension may be removed and the socket may be directly hit by the hammer. And even more important, Take the habit to limit the security wheel nut torque to 103 Nm ( 76 ft-lbs ) as suggested by the manufacturer. Tightening it to 135Nm ( 100 ft-lbs ) like the other nuts would result in a probable failure. EDIT: The 19mm socket may be freed from the security lug bolt by smashing the socket with a large hammer several times. I even succeeded in removing ( and throw away ) all four security nuts with the same 19mm socket.
I just wanted to say thanks its 10/11/19 . I was about to do a complete brake job on my 2008 honda , then I realized I didn't get a key when I purchesed the car , I watched this video at pep boys in the lug nutt àisle, back against the wall , dealer wants $1200 ,I paid $200 for parts , but no key. Ugg... this video safed my ass ,4 for 4 ,worked like a charm I'll be forever gratfull.
Okay this actually works out to pretty profitable. A 19m socket costed me about £3 but all the rims i manage to steal costed well over £600 so yeah deffo recommended!
Wow! Believe it or not, I followed the steps in this video and it worked. Now I don't have to go to my mechanic friend to perform this and keep my money in my pocket. Two thumbs up!
When I was younger ... I lost my lug nut key. So I went out and purchased a new set that came with a key. I spent hours with a chisel slowly turning the old lugs off. Then I had a thought ... I just wonder ... The key was the same as my old set. You don't get your brains until 35.
When I was younger, used to mow people's lawns around the lake. One day I ran out of gas and forgot to bring the gas can. Thought to myself "I'll just DRIVE the lawnmower back into the truck and go get gas!" Then it hit me the reason I needed to get gas in the first place...
Many factory security lugs have minute differences in the key interface to prevent owners from stealing each others wheels (like garage door openers). You have to drive your car all the way to the dealership, scan the lug and wait for them to look up your specific lug nut key, it is then that you find out the cost and realize that you will never pay that much in a million years, just to remove your wheels. lol
Thank you guys.. It saved me so much trouble. 19mm will fit where 20MM lug nut extractor is required. You can't find 20mm wheel lug extractor anywhere.
Tank a lot you Guys. Your tricks just saved my life. Had to unscrew one of those to get to one of my rear hand brake cable jammed in the rust and almost completely blocked the wheel. Did not have one of the bucks you have in the video, but i realised that the circular end of a key do the job...using another key to give me some leverage. Great tricks!!!
I have a removal tool designed specifically for this now, but before I had one I would just tack weld a regular nut to the top of the lock nut. I realize that not everyone has access to a welder, but just thought I would throw my ashop method out there.
drumbmajorbeats no he meant the outside shell where the socket attaches spins freely. New ones lock into the actual locking part so this trick won't work on some newer cars.
Great tip just literally used it just a a few minutes ago. Got me out a jam and saved me £20 and a couple of days waiting on a removal tool. Just subscribed to your channel. Thanks again
Hey guys I just want to say you saved my day! I was stressing out because the alignment shop obviously used an impact with my lock nut and completely stripped off the one head and then they must have thrown it away. Your trick worked on the full locknuts as well as the stripped one. I have to go to a new jobsite tomorrow and I was really stressing out because the shop effed the tires! Thank you! High five ✋️
You’re a jackass, he speaks at least two languages. You? You speak Russian with a nice accent, do you? You don’t even know the difference between “your” and “you’re”... you have a graduate degree in English, moron?
I just past by some RIVIERA RF108 alloys and I knew I had to have them on my Civic type R. Used this method, quick and easy $1000 carbon alloys. 10/10 would steal again!
You saved my life dude!! They were going to charge me a fortune to get this done. I bought the socket for $5.99 at O'Reilly's I banged that sucker on there with a sledgehammer. And was able to remove all four of them! The hardest part was removing the lug nut from the socket, just like you said. I didn't have an old bolt, but I used a extension I had, and it worked just fine. Thanks so much man!! You save me a hundred bucks on this one!!! :-)
The bigger problem is how they were installed, if you replaced tires and/or had a brake job done at a shop. The boys doing the wrenching are going to use a pneumatic impact wrench, which will tighten it down well past normal human strength. I carry a manual impact wrench and a hammer in the trunk to help remove lug nuts that I find in this condition. A couple of solid whacks on it should loosen it.
@@stever5887 they are supposed to use a torque indicator to prevent over tightening, but I know that most dont and that they are inaccurate anyway. dont go to shit shops. an impact is ok for removing or quickly snugging up lugs, but never for final torque. a torque wrench should be used for the final torque.
I’m with you bigdish 101 that nut was barely on there. Most nuts are too tight for that. Not to mention most of them now are deep in the wheel so you can’t get on it at all. So yes I’m sure it will work but in very few cases
Thank you! I recently bought a used a car and the dealership did not include the key, of course I didn't realize this until I went to replace my brakepads, this saved me alot of hassle/money with scheduling to have a mechanic take them off
Wow! it worked. Thank you. This video is a lifesaver. I used my Craftsman 21mm socket to remove two old school 7/8 diameter keys. Place my socket in a vice, and punched lug nuts out. There is no damage to the socket, so road trip to sears 😂
Thanks for the help, me and my dad have been trying to get some security nuts off a car we bought. The previous owner lost it and we my dad didn't wanna pay a shop to get them taken off
And when you break the socket you can take it back to the shop, tell a pack of lies and claim on the lifetime warranty! A great advert for your business - good luck for the future.
Hey just wanted to thank you for this video. I was able to loosen my lug nuts with a 19mm socket. I had no idea this was possible until I stumbled onto this video. 😊

Exactly. Some people need this video for legit reasons like when the security socket breaks. They are made like shit and shear apart easy.

another trick in combination with this one .. is to retighten the other wheel nuts on that wheel .. this may tend to reduce the tightness of the locking nut.

Had no Idea how I was going to rotate the tires, let alone fixing a flat tire on the side of the road... very helpful video.
smoothy 84 and now you can steel a new set
Ordered a replacement from Infiniti...key didn’t fit. Went to two shops, one tried and failed, the other said $300 to do all 4 wheels. Drove down the street and bought two 19mm 12-point sockets for $12, hammered them on, locks are off. This video saved my life (and $300).
Thank you so much!! While changing my tires for winter, I broke my lock nut on the 3rd wheel and I was stuck 😭 With your trick it was so easy to remove the safety nuts. It was actually scarily WAY too easy. The hardest part was to remove the nut from the socket 🤣
The wheel lock tool I got with my car was made of pot metal- it stripped on first use. This tip saved me big bucks- thanks!
I had the same issue, after getting a flat, this video saved me big time, thanks!
My mechanic lost my key. I tried this and it worked beautifully. Thank you sooo much
I very stupidly lost the key and this video legitimately saved me a trip to the car shop, really thank you guys for the quick and easy tutorial 👌
I also lost my key; also stupidly. Thats how I ended up here.😅
I want to say to you young man thank you very much I spent an hour and a half looking in my car trying to find the key and your solution worked thank you so much God bless you and your family and happy holidays my brother
Thanks for the tutorial, going to try this as soon as I get what I need.
Nice one for the information lads looks like I’ll be getting those Bentley wheels after all 😉
Thank you for your video. I used a 19 mm socket to remove the lock nuts from my 2014 Mustang. God bless you and yours.
Now i can finally get my dream wheels...thanks guys
I just wanted to say thanks its 10/11/19 . I was about to do a complete brake job on my 2008 honda , then I realized I didn't get a key when I purchesed the car , I watched this video at pep boys in the lug nutt àisle, back against the wall , dealer wants $1200 ,I paid $200 for parts , but no key. Ugg... this video safed my ass ,4 for 4 ,worked like a charm I'll be forever gratfull.
“Some are tighter than others.” That applies to a lot of things of life 🤣

Also, since when did I have tight pants??? Well, looks like no one can know if I don't even know...
Okay this actually works out to pretty profitable. A 19m socket costed me about £3 but all the rims i manage to steal costed well over £600 so yeah deffo recommended!
Worked perfectly for me thanks for the video.
Yoo it worked on my sc400 almost 3 years of having it and now I finally got the rear wheels off thanks bro!
Thanks! You just saved my rear. I lost my key and couldn’t do my rear brakes until I saw this!!!
I’m going to do the same tomorrow. Getting my new wheels and tires
You don't get your brains until 35.
lug nut lock sockets have different patterns. very unusual to find two with the same pattern
Excuse Me ... Too bad the voting age isn't 30+
Excuse Me 0
When I was younger, used to mow people's lawns around the lake.
Hey auto repair guys thank you for your videos they really help me out a lot God bless you guys you are life savers.
I realize that not everyone has access to a welder, but just thought I would throw my ashop method out there.
wreckandraceify yea cause a tack weld would hold on no issue
Welding does work but it also can leave scorch Mark's on the wheel and you have you remove the weld and do it for each wheel...
I started carrying a welder with me everytime i needed a fresh pair of shoes lol
You guys are amazing just saved myself about $120 that the shop wanted to charge me
Many lock nuts spin freely on the outside preventing this technique from working.
Na samym końcu złapie.
I believe that is why he specified to get a 12 point socket. 👍
Just the new ones. Classic muscle that's sat in a garage for the last decade however...this works while making them road worthy again!
drumbmajorbeats no he meant the outside shell where the socket attaches spins freely. New ones lock into the actual locking part so this trick won't work on some newer cars.
Then you just use a chisel or drift pin and smack with said hammer till it stops spinning...THEN use the 12 point or basically and smaller socket...
Great tip just literally used it just a a few minutes ago. Got me out a jam and saved me £20 and a couple of days waiting on a removal tool. Just subscribed to your channel. Thanks again

@@AG-jh1ky Yes we are lol
Hey guys
I just want to say you saved my day!
I have also had lock nuts mysteriously knackered after car comes back from garage.🤔
Thanks. I will remember this simple technique!!

Thanks man,I did this on one nut,it got stuck, now you show how to separate nut ,great
Thanks borat
gordon rettmann very nice!
You read my mind 10 months ago, 🤣🤣
You’re a jackass, he speaks at least two languages. You? You speak Russian with a nice accent, do you? You don’t even know the difference between “your” and “you’re”... you have a graduate degree in English, moron?
Auto repair guys, You saved my bacon with this solution! thanks very much Mike
Do o need to remove the front fender first?
CrossesbyCharlie .
CrossesbyCharlie. , yep fender has to come off and the wing
Yes and pull the engine, that's the real trick
LOL
I just past by some RIVIERA RF108 alloys and I knew I had to have them on my Civic type R.
Used this method, quick and easy $1000 carbon alloys. 10/10 would steal again!
Thieves: "Aw darn how do we get this rim off now?"
Auto Repair Guys: "hold my camera"
You saved my life dude!! They were going to charge me a fortune to get this done. I bought the socket for $5.99 at O'Reilly's I banged that sucker on there with a sledgehammer. And was able to remove all four of them! The hardest part was removing the lug nut from the socket, just like you said. I didn't have an old bolt, but I used a extension I had, and it worked just fine. Thanks so much man!! You save me a hundred bucks on this one!!! :-)
Lets see it done to some that are torqued to 100 ft-lbs...
A couple of solid whacks on it should loosen it.
stever, i use a 4 way and a foot.
@@stever5887
they are supposed to use a torque indicator to prevent over tightening, but I know that most dont and that they are inaccurate anyway.
dont go to shit shops.
an impact is ok for removing or quickly snugging up lugs, but never for final torque.
a torque wrench should be used for the final torque.
I’m with you bigdish 101 that nut was barely on there. Most nuts are too tight for that. Not to mention most of them now are deep in the wheel so you can’t get on it at all. So yes I’m sure it will work but in very few cases
100 ft.lbs is really not that tight.
Thank you! I recently bought a used a car and the dealership did not include the key, of course I didn't realize this until I went to replace my brakepads, this saved me alot of hassle/money with scheduling to have a mechanic take them off
I've been doing this way for the past 30 years as when buying from an auction nearly everyone has had the lock nut key missing
This saved me $72, if not more. Thank you very much
I had to do this when my security socket broke. They are pieces of shit that break super easy.
Did u use an impact ?
@@terp_a_derp_ I hammered on a socket that was a tiny bit smaller than thesecurity nut. Then used a huge ratchet
This is so helpful i happened to buy a car with 1 on each wheel and i got a nail in my tire so ive been trying to find ways of getting it out.
So why bother getting these wheel locks if anybody can do just this to steal your wheels?
I mean it’s loud and if you try this there’s no way you could do it silently and fast
They have to watch the video bro, it's an extra step many won't take sadly
@@eliromero2303exactly
Wow! it worked. Thank you. This video is a lifesaver. I used my Craftsman 21mm socket to remove two old school 7/8 diameter keys. Place my socket in a vice, and punched lug nuts out. There is no damage to the socket, so road trip to sears 😂
I removed a lock nut on a used SUV I bought with a pair of Vice-Grips...
CAphotos fuck yeah
I used a torch to remove mine
Thanks for the help, me and my dad have been trying to get some security nuts off a car we bought. The previous owner lost it and we my dad didn't wanna pay a shop to get them taken off
And when you break the socket you can take it back to the shop, tell a pack of lies and claim on the lifetime warranty! A great advert for your business - good luck for the future.
I have a nail in my tire, and have a stripped wheel lock.... been to three shops and they can get it out. This video is so helpful, thanks!
finally guy with a big ass hammer
Hey just wanted to thank you for this video. I was able to loosen my lug nuts with a 19mm socket. I had no idea this was possible until I stumbled onto this video. 😊
You could just screw the old socket back on a little bit and tap the hammer on the socket lightly until it loosens.
Marty Stevens wow ur dumb as shit
Thanks!! Currently trying to steal some wheels. Wish me luck guys
Oh Goodie, now my $1000 tire and wheels are NO LONGER SAFE...THANKS
They were never safe car guys know these tricks. All your safety measures are an illusion
they never were
My mother in law had a tire blow, missing the key to remove lug nut. Found this video, saved me a lot of trouble.
This is NOT new... we thieves have been doing this since 1977!
Yes yes but this criminal he's being proud in 2019 CABISH ?
Yes, but youtube wasn't around in 1977!
Thanks man, I just got done telling the honda parts dealer how easy it is to get around these.
This won't work on my rims. There's only about two mm room around the lugnut. Only the key will fit 👍
Good to know,, where you got them , brand, etc, ..?
go to the dealer, theyll gladly take them off for you and sell you a key and a spare.
