- Sea-Doo Crate Engine with metal in the oil filter after 15 min of running. lots of wear in the main Bearings for only this short time. In this episode we will tear it down and diagnose why this happened.

Great episode, always OEM parts all day long.
Great content......... Keep'em coming
One of the best looking and most fun skis they ever made. I really miss my 2004 rxp. 28 cam Babby
Not sure if they are the best looking, but they are the most durable and great for jumping waves
I have noticed mismatched parts in the SBT engines I have taken apart
Wishing I knew as much as Ernesto has forgotten.😄
Good to see FrankenMechanic pop in for a visit 😂
Love the older rxp!
loving your videos i feel like im learning alot from them thank you i did cam and retainers per your videos and worked out perfect
s b t motors must stand for sad but true
Engine was sold in 2020. Whoever installed it failed not sbt
Great video! Very well explained 👏
😎 happy Sunday!
Good video !! The multi calas scene is well well done jeje 😂 but the most important thing is that we always learn good things. Thank you for doing these. ❤
I bought an SBT sea-doo crate motor once. I had missed match head bolts as well.. It seems like the engine builder did not use enough assembly lube or possibly used oil for assembly. Sat on a shelf for years and then sold. this will definitely put a lot of wear on all the bearings
I use 100s of them 0 issues . He keeps saying it has 15 minutes on a engine that was sold in 2020
thanks for passing this knowledge down to us. For people DIY'ing Seadoo repairs/maintenance this content is Priceless.
Lots of false info in this video
@@1fastski I wouldnt say "lots". few misleading things here and there but to people like you and me that have probably wrenched their whole lives it gets corrected in our brains like auto spell. Dont forget that if he made a video in spanish it would probably be way more detail oriented
Surprising the engine needed to be replaced in the first place as the guy took such good care of it!
I think we should name Ernesto’s twin “Otsenre”
Ernesto spelled backwards 😆
Great tip on the engine grounds, shame on SBT for selling a consumer an engine with so many mismatched parts, F'd threads, and shotty workmanship..I have never trusted their products or quality. The 255 calls back to the days when SeaDoo had thick SMC gelcoat hulls..heavy but extremely durable.
These hulls are the best hulls for wave jumping. So durable and never break
@JDsWaterWorld Love the kawasaki content on your channel. Awesome job!!
I knew it would be an sbt. SOON BE TRASH
Thanks Ernesto Im going out to check my grounds on my 2016 GTX 300 and see if the shop cleaned off the paint after they painted the engine, thanks for this tip
I am wondering if they used enough assembly lube when building this motor. Usually if you dont apply enough of assembly lube to the rod/main Bearings , it will cause the most amount of damage on initial start up. That much wear for only 15 hours of run time is insane.
Crate engine builders that rush through putting engines together to meet the deadlines and quotas from management and not using factory specs and factory OEM parts is what causes this kind of wear. I would never buy a crate engine from a 3rd party vendor for this very same reason. It's better to pay a bit more for a sea-doo factory replacement Engine.
this could also be that the previous engine had a bottom end failure and they reused the contaminated oil cooler.
Like which one would even one use?
Thanks
Never had any luck with the reman engines when I was in the field and that was in the 2stroke days. The seals really weren’t that good. You could easily tell the difference. Also the cylinders were maxed out at the bore so if you had an issue later on you could do anything about it except for resleave or new cylinders. Also notice gaskets were the same quality neither. On the Yamaha PV engines like the 800, 1200 & 1300 they would use paper gaskets where there was normally metal gaskets. Yes everything may work but it’s for the how long game.
Hello Ernesto,
I really enjoy watching your videos. I would like to suggest that you consider providing a reliable alternative to SBT. Many owners have very limited options when needing engine rebuilds. The people living in Florida are fortunate to have your assistance with their jetski issues, but for individuals like myself on the Westcoast of Canada, the situation is different.
I built jet engines for a living , and the mechanic that built that engine wouldn't last a week.
That engine was bought in 2020 .. wasn't the builder... but whoever installed it
Yeah we use to see a lot of problems with SBT crate engines. Long as you take it all apart and build again i wouldnt trust them.
So what's the name of the new shop? Did you name the new workshop yet???
@@paulpuglia8480 not yet I’m still going to change things around a little bit on my Working area soon
Your videos are great with so much useful info. I found my 2013 rxpx260 with 103 hrs intercooler was leaking when I was pulling the SC to rebuild it. I found a little corrosion on the TB and a little bit on the SC wheel and housing halves. I rebuilt it but the bearings, friction washers, gear all looked perfect. The ski has never had water in the hull so I'm curious how the corrosion got in the SC. Could water from the leaking intercooler get pulled backwards to the SC somehow? Maybe letting off the throttle at wot? I'm baffled and would really appreciate opinions how it happened.
So what piston is a good piston?……
CP Carillo and Wiseco are great, if you can upgrade to a forged metal instead of a cast piston that is even better, a stock motor can run cast pistons just fine however the forged pistons are a must for reliability in heavily modified motors
@@captainawesome5560only the N/A can run without problems on cast pistons. The SC engine got OEM forged pistons in it wouldn’t recommend to change them for cast iron
@@glennmargetts84 as far as pistons go if the factory puts forged Pistons, I’ll stick with that on supercharger application as far A/N motors go I seen plenty of piston failure so I don’t know what to tell you 🤷♂️
Two possibilities, either sand or no assembly lube or a combination of both.
They are a Hypereutectic piston the same as OEM just not anodised to get the pretty colour I never trust any SBT bolts or bearings their junk.
It's simple dude! The excessive wear for a motor that only ran 15 minutes can only be one thing. The builder who put that engine together did not use assembly lube and probably just use regular oil so when he first started it cranking it and cranking it wore out those surfaces equivalent to 50 hours and probably 30 seconds of cranking. Again a lot of wear is because he didn't use assembly lube All the speckles in the oil filter are from not using assembly lube
I totally agree. I think the Crate engine builder did not use assembly lube. And if he did not enough. I also agree that if he used regular oil and then the engine sits on a shelf for months. Then this will cause the wear on the bearings once the motor starts up. Very unfortunate
@@raaah I didn’t think of that that could be a possibility🤦♂️
Engine was sold in 2020 . Whoever installed the engine didn't clean the old parts or replaced the oil cooler. Think about it. The put a junk carbon ring and supercharger on it.
I have a 2006 GTI I would like to purchase a few things just to give it a little more pep. What do you recommend? or have in stock that I can buy

Sea doo 300 rxpx , when is good for first oil change , please thank you
How many hours does yours have?
SBT shit ,very unreliable and unsafe
For someone who doesn't want to bash other shop you seem to love to hover over the sbt tag as you trash the shop who built it. You claim the engine has 15 minutes yet just posted this video . That engine was sold in 2020, You didn't find anything but a pooped super charger and wear marks on the bearings. Whoever PUT the engine in failed to clean out the PTO cover oil pumps or oil cooler. Whatever was left over from what blew up the original engine took out that reman engine. Don't blame the builder because of the installer. My shop uses a lot of sbt engines with 0 issues.
It is the responsibility of the engine builder to properly clean the inside of the PTO cover, oil pump, and oil cooler, etc. Whatever metal scraps were left over from what blewup, the original engine needs to be cleaned up properly by the engine builder. That is NOT the responsibility of the installer.
With your logic, the installer should take apart the entire sbt engine and clean it up all the metal shavings and and put it back together? What kind of nonsense is that. Also, if the engine has been on a shelf since 2020. Obviously, there wasn't enough lubrication on the bearings on the initial start.
