  • NEW DESIGN FEE MASTERMIND FOR INTERIOR DESIGNERS: sintija-s-site-0b0d.thinkific...
    Have you ever hired an interior designer and wondered how do they come up with the final fee? Or are you a designer yourself and are a bit unsure what you should be charging for your services?
    Well I have some answers to both of you! In today's video I am giving you all the in's and out's of interior design fees. We are breaking down the structure of design process in order to understand how much work is involved as well as doing some maths to figure out what is the perfect fee for your service, time and energy.
    And I'm very keen to hear what you've got to say on this topic! Let me know in the comments how you approach the design fee process or if you've ever used an interior designer's service- what was your experience like? Do you feel like it was worth every penny/cent ?

    Wow you are so right with clients wanting to deal at the end! They want that 10% or whatever off to make it feel like they got a deal of some kind and usually it is at the end when everything is done and your looking to collect that last 10%. HA I do the same thing with my billing because I know what is coming at the end. If you factor it in they go away feeling like they got a deal and I always get recommended for other projects form my client. But in the end I got paid what I wanted. Great video! I don’t do interior design but I do low voltage systems in homes.

      Yep that's why we need to be smart about it. To be honest it is a common practice in most industries, people just don't openly talk about it. Which is why I do this 😊 I think these things are super important to share if that means that we can give better service to our clients and still get paid what we're worth 👌👌 Thanks for the comment! Hope all goes well with your ventures 👐

    Hey Sinthja! Love this video. There is another way for calculating how much you need to charge your client, that is by sqm or sqft. The breakdown is actually super helpful!

    • @SpaceForEdit
      @SpaceForEdit  5 років тому +2

      Yes I have seen designers charging per sqm. Do you prefer it that way? 😎

    • @aseelbysketchbook
      @aseelbysketchbook 5 років тому +4

      Space for Edit absolutely, simply because I don’t know a way where you can calculate your hours, especially when you jump in between projects you know? How do you do that?

    • @SpaceForEdit
      @SpaceForEdit  5 років тому +6

      @@aseelbysketchbook Riiigghhhtt... well the way I calculate my hours is - I take an 8 hour working day as a template. And then just break it down and have think how much each task/design stage will take me to do. Lets say research for a concept- half a day? A set of drawings- 5-6 days? This way you can be project specific so you're not losing out on any money. Does this make sense? :)

    Loved your video! Very informative. Now, lemme tell you something! I joined a freelancer website, and I kid you not when I tell you people are offering 50-100 dollars to design an entire home!! It's a complete joke!

    • @SpaceForEdit
      @SpaceForEdit  4 роки тому +2

      Ughhh...I know right!! It's insane. I'd rather do a job fro free than get paid pennies for it.👌 At least then I have more creative control in a way. But yeah, there has been a lot of chat in the design /creative field about these types of websites. They are not doing any good for creatives and it is not the right way to go about design..
      Thanks for watching btw👐! I'm releasing a lot more money-type videos soon so keep an eye out if you want to hear more 😊

      @@SpaceForEdit hi quick question about how long would it take a designer to finish a 5 bedroom home with 5 and a half bathrooms with flowers curtains and mirrors and so if your home has two interior designers this also includes two living rooms and a dining room?

  •  4 роки тому +2

    Informative! Although I’m interested in hiring a designer. It’s not clear to me yet what’s deliver, in what form and at what moment.
    Also I think it will be interesting to know how the payments are structured. 100% at the end? I don’t think a designer will accept that.

    • @SpaceForEdit
      @SpaceForEdit  4 роки тому +6

      Hi Benjamin! Glad this was useful 👌 The in's and out's of payment terms will be different from a designer to designer. A general agreement usually is that 50% should be paid upfront and the rest could be broken down in two, three or possibly one payment. Same goes to what and when you will receive regarding design material. The designer should provide all of this information upfront during your discovery meetings or detail it in their design fee proposal 👌 Hope this helps!

  • @Serel25
    @Serel25 4 роки тому +4

    Also, make sure you are charging for the designs, mood boards, visuals etc. That way if you have to say goodbye you've been paid for your time 👍🏽... Hardest job to prove your worth until you win the job and finish the project 🙄😁😍

    • @SpaceForEdit
      @SpaceForEdit  4 роки тому +2

      Oh yeah doing upfront bidding design work is the worst! It's worth when your company has got the leverage to do that but in any other siruation- 50% deposit is a must 💯👍

      @@SpaceForEdit Would you charge them separately for the design package as well as hourly rate, or is it better to include that within your package deal? Like for example doing all the boards costs x amount, but that x amount already includes how much you're charging for your time resourcing materials, images and putting them together on a board either physically, digitally and/or both? If it ends up taking longer, do you then say at the beginning that if you spend more time than what you've allocated due to making changes that they've asked for etc., that they will have to pay more at the end? Sorry for all the questions! i find this fascinating and also want to (FINALLY) start my own design business. This video is great and super informative!

    This was insightful. Would adding the 20/30% markup still apply if one is using the spm method ? because I heard with the method itself you can end up over-charging or under charging your client. Or it all just go back to simple math ? 😆

      @SpaceForEdit  3 роки тому

      Hi Ariana! Thank for tuning in 😉 I think I do mention in the video that it is hard to share any numbers because the situation around the world is really different. It is most likely that fees we charge in the UK will be completely different from those in Australia or in the US etc. It also depends on your experience level and the market you're working with. Luxury residential designers charge a lot higher than commercial designers for example. I do hope that the video at least gave you some guidelines and ideas where to start from 😊
