- The Sony fx6 has quickly become a popular camera in the narrative documentary and tv industry. It seems like many productions have put the Sony fs5's and fs7's on the sidelines and have replaced them with their new brothers the sony fx6 and fx9.

Hello fom Europe. I liked watching your video, but as a notorious FX6 shooter, I have some questions....A schoulderrig without a shoulderpad ? Why don't you extend the pretty useful handle to the rig ? How do you use touchfocustracking with the touchmonitor in your back ? How do you reach the manualfocus with the viewfinder in the way ? Is the center of gravity on your shoulder not too high ? And where do you leave all that stripped down parts on your run and gun shoot ? These were my thoughts on your unicorn...I wish you good luck and best light on your future projets.

I will once Polar Pro makes their new handles. There was a manufactures defect that I had brought up to them and now they're actually redoing the handles. Once I go and pickup the new ones from them I definitely will!

Appreciate you bro! I wish the 6/9 had more accessories to be honest. The Komodo has endless options and I came from 2. Im really liking the fx6 just need brands to come up with some dope accessories and Sony to release info to allow brands to make better top handles!

Thanks for the video, I like the set up. Personally I find the FX6 stock to be the perfect Documentary camera. I like the less is more approach, especially with unscripted stuff
There's a setup out there for everyone! For me personally I need minimum a bigger monitor and Vmount option!
How do you find the noise from the portkeys monitor fan, do you get much spill into the shotgun mic?
Great question bro, usually the fans on LOW and can't hear it at all. When its super hot out and have the backlight maxed out for the brightness I do put it on. It's so faint have had zero issues in post with a tiny bit of noise reduction and its fine. Sometimes music on the video covers it up too.
How long have you had that evf and how have you found it? I wanted to get it but i heard from some people it's not the most reliable, cheers.

sir i need to know the mounting part for your monitor, it has a 15mm hole and a tiny cheese plate which is exactly what i'm looking for my FX6!

Off-topic @i’mJasonanthony I need your advice. How do you manage to use the raw footage from the fx6 on DaVinci to resolve? As propres raw from the fxc doesn't work on resolve.
To be honest I've just been using the Slog3 Sgamut Cine in Cine EI mode. Coming from pocket 6k's and recently selling my 2 RED Komodos for the FX6's I find plenty of Dynamic Range out of the Slog3 for what it is I'm shooting. I even DP'd a toyota commercial on the FX6's. Its so tough and. Ireally wish sony would share the info to have an 3rd party make one for us. It's the one downfall to the camera.

Really depends on your budget bro! I've been running the Benro tripods on my productions specifically the A373F Series 3 Aluminum Video Tripod and BV6 Head. I want a Sachtler Flowtech but still cant bring myself to drop $3k. I know they have ones for $10k+ and people in the industry I know swear by them.
@@ImJasonAnthony YES! been staring at the Sachtler on my cart for days haha I used that at an agency I use to work at and wow night and day vs Manfrotto video tripods.
Well I might just pick up a benro, its pretty embarrassing when my tripod log slips out lol

Depends on the style you're going for, for docu reality TV where cameras can be a little shaky with handheld movement 100%

Not a big fan of this rig for the following reasons. The Pola rig should have the rails built in so the whole camera set up can be lowered. The way it is here it’s stacked up too high and wobbly. You can see it shake in the video. And this will be death when using long lenses in any kind of wind. Use a Shape, Zacuto or SmallRig shoulder pad and baseplate instead.
What the heck, the Sony monitor with focus tracking at the back? Makes no sense at all. Move it to the front and just near the top of the EVF so you can tap the focus tracking etc easily without having to take the camera off your shoulder to do it.
LEYE monitor better suited to the FX3. Get a Zacuto EVF, night and day better and sharper focusing. The way it is rigged to the unnecessary 2nd set of rails is in the way of manual zoom, FStop, and zoom rings. Making it s fidgety snd awkward to work around.
Why not a Ninja V monitor and open up a ton more recording options, codecs, exposure controls, multicam integration, ProRes RAW, 16bit recording, high capacity fast SSD’s that can record anything slow-mo codec/speed the camera offers. And without buying insanely expensive Sony Tough cards. What’s the point of recording internally and missing out on the full potential of the camera. Can’t give this rig anymore than a C-
Hey I appreciate the feedback and this video is well over a year old. After using the setup showcased I can agree the shoulder rig by PP is not the one.
I've made changes like an FX9 Loupe and got rid of the PP shoulder right (has defects then tend to happen on all of them) best part about rigs is it you build it to your needs.
I've owned 4 ninja V's over the years, their lack of customizable tools is a dealbreaker for me. I personally could care less about recording externally for those who do make sense. The UI is outdated, its slow, they tend to fail oftern (tons of reddit posts) just not my jam. I'd rather the port keys with its brightness, clarity, and the tools it offers.
once again build the rig that works for you, opinions are like a$sholes everyone has one. At the end of the day if it makes you $$, you get the shots you need, and client/production is happy run it however your little heart desires

Up until the new 24-70 mkii this sigma out performed the original 24-70 GM. That GM is way outdated bro and focuses super slow. I’ve been a Sony shooter for 6 years and have had every GM lens more or less at some point. I own 4 G masters at the moment including now the new 24-70 mkii haha literally got it a week after this post. Tbh I prefer my cine primes but if I need the AF the GM’s are top notch.
