Is the XLR only able to output mono? I'm trying to see if I can output Stereo from 1 XLR.
Hi Kyler Holland. Sorry to coming so late back to you. The FX6 has no XLR output. The only output is the 3.5mm Jack for the headphone. In the menu, you can choose which signals you like to monitor here. If you choose CH1/C2 and the signals are in a stereo format recorder, you get a stereo output here.

So the only way to get stereo audio with the shotgun mic is to use 2 XLR and 2 Mics?
@@KYLERHOLLAND Seems like it. I've been scratching my head why Sony wouldn't allow stereo input via xlr, no matter what Stereo generating device I connect it will always just take one of the two tracks. Really sucks if you need to mic up 3 persons, you'd have to go with sonys extremely expensive uwp-d since it will work with the multi interface shoe or put a XLR-K3M on top which is also not cheap and adds ridiculous bulk to the handle.

Hey Markus great video. I just picked up the FX6 and I have a Sony eco-vg1. I've put it into XLR input 1 what would my setting be to collect sound from there and can I turn off the Internal mic's and just record from the VG1. Thanks in advance
Dear Kwame Damon Mason, the standard settings are ok. Choose between auto or manual mode. In Auto mode there is nothing you need to adjust for now. If you find out that the level is not ok you can adjust the input sensitivity. In manual mode you can use the fails to adjust your input gain an I would recommend to switch on the limiter. The minimum string , 6dB, would be ok for a first test. If you do not see any overload you are ready to go. Oh, do not forget to switch on the Phantom Power for powering the mic.

Ich hätte noch eine Frage, was die Audio-Einstellungen angeht und hoffe du kannst mir hier weiterhelfen: Wenn ich bei der Sony FX6 zwei Mikrofone via XLR einstecke werden die Signale automatisch nach links und rechts aufgeteilt. Also Mikro 1-links und Mikro 2-Rechts. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, dass beide Mikros links UND rechts ausgegeben werden? Das nachträgliche bearbeiten kommt leider nicht in Frage, da wir die Kamera auch für Live-Streaming verwenden möchten. :) Vielen Dank im Voraus! :)
Hallo Broductions, wie so oft bei Sony ist die Eingangsmatrix etwas kompliziert. Ich habe versucht das in einer Grafik zusammenzufassen. Do you know if it’s possible to record at high frame rates while also capturing audio??
Dear Drew as far as I. know you can not record audio in S&Q mode (Slow & Quick mode).

If i wanted to record a safety Track (-20db) from Channel 1 (XLR Mic Manual) how do I set this up?
Dear Dennis Zimmermann, on page 90 of the FX6 user manual you find the following routing for CH2 Input Select: “INPUT1 / INPUT2 / Internal MIC / Shoe CH2”. Connect your Mic to Input 1, switch in the menu CH2 to Input 1 and the signal is present on both channels. Switch bot channels to “Manual Level Control”. Now you can lower the level for channel 1 and 2 individual by the “AUDIO LEVEL dial” on the left side of the camcorder. Hope this answers your question.
@@mawa Hey Markus thanks a lot. This helps me. My Canon C200 had the Option to auto dial in the "Safety Track" to -20db so you had to set just one channel and the second channel does it for you...

Hi Svend Even Hærra. Thanks for watching my videos. There is a digital series named DWX from Sony which contains also a 2-channel fully digital receiver. Do you know how to link channel 1 and channel 2 for mid-side stereo recording?
Hi Max Carlo Kohal. As far as I know, the camera has no special link function. Only the AGC can be switched to stereo for CH1&2 and/or 3&4. All other parameters have to be changed per channel manual. Internally all channels are synced by the internal time code. If you use an M/S type microphone (like ECM-MS2) the result will be useable later in postproduction for MS decoding. I have not tested this function but I don't see any reason why it does not should work.
Super Video! Ich habe mit Ton leider nicht viel zutun und muss aber bald ein Interview mit der FX6 aufzeichnen. Dafür habe ich ein Sennheiser MKE 600. leg ich das einfach auf den Input 1 und fertig? Habe es getestet und ein ziemlich lautes Rauschen festgestellt. Was kann ich hier ändern um ein klaren Ton zu bekommen? Lg
Hallo Simon, ich kenne das MKH 600 nicht an einer FX6 aber es kann eigentlich nur an einer Anpassung der Eingangsempfindlichkeit liegen. du kannst die Grundempfindlichkeit im Kameramenü ändern. INPUT1 MIC oder MIC 2

Hallo Simon, ich habe mir nochmal das MKE 600 angeschaut. Es hating Empfindlichkeit von -34dB. die Standart Sony ECM Shotguns liegen so bei -36dB, also nicht weit weg davon. Sorry aber 48V Phantom Speisung ist eingeschaltet? Du betreibst das MKE 600 mit einer Batterie? Eigentlich sollte das gut funktionieren.
How do the preamps compare to those of the FS7?
@jujufactory I#m sorry but I have not listen to the FS7 mic inputs since 5 or 6 years. So my memories are not good enough to compare. Usually Sony is using good sounding A/D converter and high quality mic pre amps.
Thanks but with my FX6 i pick up 8 channels : 4 of the audio like you explained and 4 others empty track and i don't why. Can I deactivate the 4 others tracks. Thanks again.
Hi Jeremie FRUCHET. This is nothing sony belongs. The 8CH of audio into your file is coming from the file format. I'm not an expert on codecs and file formats for video but as I understand the XAVC codec is specified with 8CH of audio. So the file includes always 8CH but only 4 are useable by some camcorders. And as I understand the information I have correct, there is no way to stop writing 8CH into your file.

Hey Markus, zu 1:15 ; bei meiner FX6 kann ich seit geraumer Zeit nicht mehr mit dem Rädchen pegeln, wenn der Schalter auf manuell steht. Hast du eine Idee woran das liegen könnte?
Hallo Marcel. Es gibt die Möglickeit diese "Side" Funktion aus zu Schalten. Seite 91 im Manual sagt (am Beispiel für CH1): “Side” refers to the AUDIO LEVEL (CH1) dial on the side of the camcorder. When Level+Side is selected, the audio recording level is determined by the combination of the Audio Input Level and dial settings (page 124).
Seite 124 im Manual sagt: [CH1 Level] , Audio Input Level Side, Level + Side Through
Man kann also im Menü einstellen ob der Audio Level über Side (Knöpfe an der Seite) oder über Level+Side (im Audio Menü der Kamera + die Knöpfe an der Seite) verändert werden kann.
Dann gib es noch die Möglichkleit " Through". In verbindung mit dem XLR Adapter kann man so die Level Funktion in der Kamera komplett umgehen und nur die Knöpfe am XLR-K3M benutzen. Ich hoffe das hilft dir weiter.

Thanks for this information, Markus. I believe that the AGC only operates for channels that are set to AUTO, not for channels set for MANUAL. For MANUAL channels, you would need to use the limiter and that the limiter and AGC never operate on the same channel.

I wish someone would explain what "Audio in put Level, Side and Level + Side " means.It seems no one can give an explanation of this function?

as I understand that "side" means, you can handle/dial the audio levels on the side handle.
