    This play-along guide is going to walk you through the settled systems and show you where to get over 30 skill books from the very start, no combat needed, with a couple optional extra skill book locations post early combat with a few awesome guns and just general tips like where to find places to modify your ships and sell contraband.
    0:07 - Constellation Guide 01 - Permanently reduce fall damage by 5%
    1:29 - Nova Galactic Manual 03 - Permanently reduce fuel needed for a Grav jump by 1%
    2:30 - Vanguard Space Tactics 01 - Ship missiles permanently deal 5% more damage
    4:45 - The New Atlantian 03 - Permanently grants the recipe for Astral Sliders
    5:44 - Va'Ruun Scripture 01 - Permanently increase sneak bonus by 1%, and melee sneak attack damage by 5%
    6:37 - The New Atlantian 05 - Permanently grants the recipe for Shepherd's Pie
    8:24 - Cyber Runner's Cipher 02 - Laser weapons permanently do 5% more critical damage
    9:11 - Mining Monthly Issue 03 - Permanently increase tool-grip weapon damage by 2%
    10:39 - Kryx's Journal Entry 05 - 2% bonus to store prices, buy and sell
    11:02 - Revealing a skill book location, but it's locked behind combat missions, so not acquiring the book here
    12:14 - UC Defense Manual 02 - Slightly increase magazine size and weapon bash critical chance for all Allied Armaments guns
    13:30 - Constellation Guide 04 - Permanently use 15% less O2 when moving while overencumbered - also discussing where to find another skill book or two, and Heller's Cutter
    16:44 - UC Defense Manual 01 - Further increase magazine size and weapon bash critical chance for all Allied Armaments guns
    18:45 - Rare named gun location guaranteed drop, bonus content
    19:45 - Gunslinger's Guide 03 - Permanently reload and draw Laredo weapons 5% faster
    21:11 - CombaTech Catalog 03 - Slightly increase the range and accuracy of CombaTech weapons
    21:59 - UC Defense Manual 03 - Further increase magazine size and weapon bash critical chance for all Allied Armaments guns
    23:51 - Mining Monthly Issue 07 - Permanently increase tool-grip weapon damage by 2%
    24:20 - Mining Monthly Issue 09 - Permanently increase tool-grip weapon damage by 2%
    27:32 - Cyber Runner's Cipher 04 - Adds a bankable auto-attempt for hacking - and I divulge another combat needed skillbook location on the way to Volii
    29:54 - Gunslinger's Guide 04 - Permanently reload and draw Laredo weapons 5% faster
    31:10 - Neon Nights 02 - Permanently grants the recipe for S.T.E.V.E. which slows down time and increases ranged damage for 10s
    32:13 - Cyber Runner's Cipher 01 - Adds a bankable auto-attempt for hacking
    33:01 - Neon Nights 05 - Permanently grants the recipe for AddiJack
    33:40 - Neon Nights 03 - Permanently grants the recipe for 02 Shot, 500% 02 regeneration for 2s
    34:17 - Tracker's Primer 03 - Permanently increase EM weapon damage by 5%
    39:33 Red Mile chicanery
    41:04 - Gunslinger's Guide 01 - Permanently reload and draw Laredo weapons 5% faster
    43:05 - Freestar Captain's Log 03 - Permanently increase carry capacity by 5kg
    43:39 - Gunslinger's Guide 02 - Permanently reload and draw Laredo weapons 5% faster
    44:44 - Va'Ruun Scripture 03 - Permanently increase sneak bonus by 1%, and melee sneak attack damage by 5%
    45:45 - Solomon's Adventures - Permanently increase weapon damage by 5% at night.
    46:44 - New Atlantian 04 - Permanently grants the recipe for Beer Brats
    47:51 - Ecliptic Satellite random encounter on the way to Vlad's Villa in Syrma - no skill book, just random content.
    48:53 - Stealing a ship, no skill book, just more random content.
    50:11 - Kryx's Journal Entry 03 - Crew and companions permanently deal 5% more weapon damage - You need Advanced lock-picking to get this skill book and the cache of weapons
    51:28 - Guaranteed named rare weapon, with other legendary/epic advanced weapons and armor possible drops.
    53:35 - Getting arrested - no combat needed for the next one if you go the arrest route to get aboard the UC Vigilance.
    57:25 - CombaTech Catalog 02 - Further increase the range and accuracy of CombaTech weapons
    58:03 - Complete the Deep Cover and Rook meets King missions, some space combat is needed, but it's pretty easy, so count these last two skill books as bonus content.
    59:08 - Peak Performance 05 - Permanently increase carry capacity by 5kg
    59:58 - Grunt Issue 04 - Ballistic weapons permanently do 5% more critical damage.
    1:01:09 - Conclusion, 32 no combat needed skill mags with 2 bonus mags with some light space combat to open up the Key.

    Appreciate this video. I mean, I've logged around 600 hours or so at this point and made it all the way to level 164 yet I still never ran into these skill books... Well, I saw them, but I never realized they did anything for me. I recently realized certain clothing can do this, so this video was especially cool. Many thanks, and keep up the great work!

    Thanks for this! I am on NG+ and this was really helpful. I do want to point out one thing: I am maxed on the weightlifting skill. I went to the Clinic to get the magazine to the immediate left (Constellation Guide 04 which gave you 15% less O2 while over encumbered). My Constellation Guide 04 actually gave me a 5% increase output on all of my outposts. (This is awesome for me because I have outposts set up to produce Vytinium Fuel Rods).
    I said all that to say the game probably does this for all the magazines--gives you a different bonus if you are maxed on a certain skill. So the weightlifting skill may be worth it after all ( It definitely was for me)

      Well if you're making Vytinium Fuel Rods, I assume you're running an XP farm, and you're like level 200+ so why not take weight lifting at that point? I just don't think it's worth spending points on early, or hell, before level 60 even, when there are so many other skills that'll give you a lot more benefit than carrying around useless crap. 😛 I have a character that's level 217 or so and it's so boringly overpowered I'd rather just start brand new games to get an actual challenge.

      Yeah, I basically always find a mechanized space suite by the Mantis quest but if not I'll reroll the Mantis suite till I get one. Than that will do me till I can get 200 or 180 ish resistance on a suite I pick up. That's when I work on weightlifting yeah around lvl60.
      This way I work on my science skills so I can make chems and vytinium rods sooner :) lol

    Are they activated 'permanently' when you
    pick them up..or ..do you keep them inside your inventory , to keep them active ??

      Btw for the reload skill and magazines, they’re kind of bugged. If you have a throwable equipped, the buffs don’t work. The moment you un-equip a throwable, your reloads are faster. Strange bug but I think Glitch Unlimited mentioned it.

    You can get a skill book without battle at nova galactic staryard at earth moon. It is in the locked room just inside the station after the dead spacer and before the 1st actual loading door. I forget which book it is but I saw it the other day...I always forget to turn around so I miss the locked storeroom most times. You can go here without the constellation quest.

    Thanks for all the skill mags! Additionally, if you go to the science outpost on Red Mile. When you land head over to the “abandoned Robotics Facility” upstairs in the control room you’ll find UC Defense Manual 05 (increase mag size and weapon bash critical chance) easy grab

    Since you are doing a pirate run on this character, you should kill Larry Dumbrosky on the cruise ship. It does interesting things to your game.

    Oh and by the way when you do go mass murder the Constellations wants nothing to do with you. I suggest if you do this after jump to NG. That is what I did LOL!

      I'd never successfully made my companions hate me for more than a mission or two, or 24 universal time. Than, in my experience, they forget about whatever they had complaints about.

    Can you please go double check the ones that are supposedly “locked” behind quests? If I remember correctly the one in the master building and the clinic are both accessible without having to “unlock” anything. You can go nearly anywhere in the game without worry so I don’t understand why they would be locked. I’m assuming you’re referring to the Freestar magazine in the deputy office in the clinic?

      What’s weird is, I’m at the Clinic right now and my skill magazine is a Constellation Guide 04 but it says “Healing items are permanently 5% more effective”

      @@rxdawg75 yeah I am, and I also found this particular magazine like a few hours prior to starting this skill mag run at a random POI in Masada III as well. So I wonder if that had something to do with it. I did the whole skill magazine run here and had 2 other occurrences where the skill mags I found while following his directions were different as well. Forgot which ones exactly though.
