You were right…too many people rushed to get their videos out and missed SO much stuff you covered. I learned a lot and I’m lvl 31. Thank you for taking your time and providing this in depth video 🤝🏽
Hands down the best ship building tutorial I’ve seen. The comment about you still waiting for the mod that lets you eject your crew members into space had me in stitches.
I'll echo many of the other comments here and compliment you on this super informative vid describing not only what the the best pieces are, but why they are the best pieces. Let me also compliment you on your ship builds. Your Millennium Falcon, Space Shuttle, and even your 'mini' Imperial Class Star Destroyer are just incredible. I just can't even imagine how much time you spent plugging pieces together to achieve those replicas. This vid was worth it just to show them off.
These 38 minutes has until now been the best minutes spend on any video on the Starfield topic. What a wonderfull clear insite into the important details at any given situation frgarding ships. Thanks you for giving me a much much better fundation to build my future ships on. And if nobody else have said it, then let me tell you that you have the most pleasant and calm voice, I have heard in a very long time. You get 3 x WOW's from me 🙂Thank You so much!
Very complete without beating around the bush. I can't get myself to building particle beam only loadouts... I mean, variety is the spice of life, right? All my ships have particle beams to chew away at shields, then cannons to chip away at the hull and a salvo of missiles to finish them off, usually with the zoom and boom tactic. Also to note that ballistics reach farther than the indicated range, I've been able to make hits at +2000m but the damage drops off considerably. I'd also really like if the game had sensor upgrade packages in the shipbuilder to be able to get a missile lock farther out, because the max range on them is basically useless as is. I also really like your UNSC Pelican build. Thanks for the quality content!
Ok, but where would ship designs be imported/exported from? This sounds pretty complicated if your talking something like "insert link, get your ship" but if you have a few iconic designs pre-made (just a few ships each from various sci-fi stories) and sell them at the various shipyards where we can buy them if we have the credits. These wouldn't be any better or worse than any other ship, it would be just a cosmetic upgrade you can do to your ships. Maybe by just rearranging the parts of your home ship?
Just started playing Starfield a week ago, not delved into ship building yet I’ve only stole a few grounded ships up to now, was thinking of building my own soon and this video has helped me out loads! I understand so much more now after watching this, you really go into depth about this mechanic and explain it all so simply. Thanks a lot, just subbed too 🤙
You live up to your handle as ShipTechnician. Thank you for an extremely informative discussion about top notch ship components, and how to balance those with ship performance. I'll use this guide on my next ship very soon.
I spent a lot of time trying to find this information, and I deeply appreciate the accurate and concise information with simple, clear explanations presented in such a comforting relaxed style
Thanks for having such a highly detailed video about ships. I have been stuck just using the two story cockpit from new homestead but now am excited to try build new ships. I wish all the unique ships parts would be available at your outpost building
You earned a new sub with this video. Great detail. Thanks for showing the weapons in action. I had no idea the differences between auto and manual. The breakdown of which to choose depending on play style was awesome. Well done mate.
Hallo, wanted to drop a major Thank You!!!, for the greater insight documentation dictation you have provided. I was able to get My Frontier Version 1, up to 5 crew, which by the way, was growing very quickly. Looking forward to more of your in-depth explanations.
Wow this is so what I needed. Thank you for taking the time to research all this and making a video that lays out your findings so concisely. Subscribed.
A ship repair kit for the Pinch8Z reactor heals ~540 ship health in 10 seconds. A ship repair kit for the Pinch8A reactor heals ~780 ship health in 10 seconds. The Pinch8A heals ~24 more ship health per second than the Pinch8Z, or ~44% faster healing. It's worth taking a look at the Pinch8A if you can afford to drop 4 points of ship power for much greater durability. Ship repair kit effects stack, so it is also possible to just use more of them to heal faster if durability is not a primary concern. For grav drives, the Grav Jump Thrust score is used in calculating the fuel consumption cost for each jump. The higher the Grav Jump Thrust, the more fuel will be consumed to travel the same distance. The video points out that you don't need to max out the jump range score to 30. You can conserve ship mass by selecting a grav drive with lower grav thrust, and this also saves you fuel consumption which may allow you to conserve even more mass by purchasing a lower mass fuel tank. I think the largest fuel cost I've seen jumping across the entire star map was a little under 800, with no skills or companions to reduce cost. You will likely need much less than that with the right grav drive thrust, skills, crew members and magazine bonuses. Ship mobility does not increase above 100 or decrease below 0. So you can load up your cargo ship with cargo containers and drop your mobility far below 0 to carry huge amounts of cargo, and you will not be penalized below 0 mobility. You can still turn with 0 mobility, but it is slow, though turrets make space combat viable. You are only limited in cargo capacity by the jump range of your ship. For a maximum 100 mobility ship, add the maneuvering thrust of all your engines and divide by 12.4 and the result is the approximate maximum mass to maintain 100 mobility. One thing to mention about turrets is that the damage output can be increased by 2 different skills. They benefit from the skill that increases the ship weapon damage type as well as the automated weapon skill. They are the top DPS weapons, though you can't manually target or fire them. One benefit of laser weapons is that they can function as an alternate to suppressor weapons, and still have some utility in space combat. They can be good if you want to reliably disable and board ships without dedicating an entire weapon system to suppressors. The range stat for missiles is deceptive. They are listed as having ranges near 4000 meters, but they can only be guided to the target if they have a target lock, and the targeting system has a range of about 2000 meters.
I feel like I just went to ship technician school at new Atlantis this should be in game schools across the settled systems that explain in depth what things do in game! I love it please keep up the good work
Never is too late to make a good Guide for starters, your guide is something i was trying to find since i started this game a few weeks a go, thanks mate for the great tutorial, now im ready to build my first working ship as i was always fumbling between parts that don't fit or failed the check list , thanks again thumbs up.
Great explanation vid and some awesome tips too! Thank you for taking the time and I look forward to more in future. Ship building is fantastic but can be a little overwhelming at first too. Well done!
I've been watching a lot of ship builds recently and just after the first minute of your video, these are the best builds I've seen to date. Thank you.
Paused at 1:28, been messing with my starter ships while grinding up, but I'm off to play the vanguard line and try to grind piloting on up ✊ I'm excited for some starship combat
Seriously excellent! I've been searching for tips, but most guides are 4-5 months old, a few of which I suspect they copied others and have not actually played the game. I've learned a ton in this vid. Keep it up!!!
this video is chef's kiss. much appreciated. i know you've released a few build videos already, hopefully you follow through with the rest of the ships shown. fingers crossed for the destroyer.
Thank you, very informative! I've felt a little overwhelmed with all parameters and how they combine together, but your video helped me with a systemic approach.
....These ships are AMAZING!! Really appreciate this video; this gives me a lot of ideas and inspiration for 'upping my ship game'... I didn't start working on ships until my lvl 70s and 80s (NO Main Questline yet!) and now REALLY love it... Thanks for the video!!
Great video! Very helpful and i will share with friends just getting into ship building. I have found that using a turret on rear of ship provides a huge situational awareness of where a target is behind you.
Thank you. I just did my first NG+ and am looking to tear down the razorleaf and rebuild it - and I will be using this. I had a great ship build (also from a UA-cam video) that I loved, but was huge. You’re the first builder that has got stuff I’d like to model after that isn’t a million credits per ship. (My last build was 400k ish, a little over after my modifications - but so many builders are like 700k minimum.
Nice, thank you. There were a few things I had no idea about. I have 1 small fighter and I'll be upgrading its weapons after seeing this and then I have one freighter with as much storage as it can attach!
Excellent work! Everything was right on, especially the relationship between reactor, hull, and the health of the ship. In addition to the engines you showed, on ships with minimal room for extra engines, I also use the Poseidon DT230s. They are costly in power used (4), but make up for it with 11,600 maneuvering thrust each. Of course, that is a personal choice. Thank you.
So glad I’ve seen this video as just about to start ship building. It feels a bit like cheating but as with any Bugthesda game the more knowledge you have, the less frustration & pain dealt to you.
@ShipTechnician please post some build guides on your ships shown here! These are some of the best I’ve seen and I’d love to duplicate. Especially interested in building the Pelican!
Thank you so much for putting this together, as I was lost in all those options and not sure how to get the best parts, going to keep repeat watching till I understand all your calculations and mass and ratios. I like your ships they look good and I hope we won't meet in space as I think you wipe me out in a split second ;-) again thanks ever so much... I deleted the awful looking comspike and other part, not understanding they give extra protection, I thought they where only for the quest... I love the 'Dreadnought' that cargo size is just what I need, I can get rid of those noisy cargo links and collect just what I need, my outposts would need less crates as well then..
I love the vanguard hellfire autocannons. Actually obsessed, I use them for any class ship now because you can have 6 of them and look insane when fired, they're fast and they sound amazing. I use to be a pure particle beam guy, but those are so boring to use. Secondly I hate the Kon-tiki cockpits for the fact the crew sites in chairs....like passengers. They don't really have a purpose other than observe, there are no controls, screens or anything for them to do. The large kon-tiki is all I use because it looks good on the outside and is easy to mount, so I force myself to use it once in a while for large ships. As cool as the Deimos one looks on the inside and out and having 8 crew slots, its incredibly difficult to mount when your ship is restricted to 40m and that one looks weird mounted at the front of the ship.
Great video. Subbed. I really suck at building ships, not just choosing components - which this helped with - but getting it all put together so it's nice, and functional. So I follow videos, but they all seem to want to use the same parts. Cabot bridge, 8Z reactor, Apollo grav drive. Honestly it's kind of boring. I like the variety of ships you use, and your willingness to consider class A and B parts.
Got yourself a sub and a like as someone like me that just builds ships on every single play through I completely agree with everything you have stated in this video 🎉
One quick note about Habs. Some Nova Galactic Habs have one added benefit - passenger space for two in *addition* to the Science, Workshop, and Armory units. Great for loading up on passenger space in addition to the other things you want in a ship.
This may not be the list that the author mentions, but it is the best I've found. Starfield Ship Weapons docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dud8L8FQwQ8IpsJnjFyE4vgoQm1wrlHRVtoyY8L8bR4/edit#gid=0
This is great! Thank you! In the process of building a new ship so this is just great! One question: are the "top" C tier engines available in NG+? I did the stroud quest in my original playthrough but it's of course not available after NG+. Once you "unlock" it, is that permanent?
Great detailed vid,I'm still only rank 42 but look forward to getting access to these parts, what was your thoughts on the rail guns,I got a free ship from stroud Eiland and they seem quiet good.,also if you kill Ron hope can you still visit Hopetown?
a case for Lasers: Hijacking Ships, I don't want them destroyed. so in this case a Laser Turret to automatically soften everything up, without accidentally destroying; is useful. I'll typically pair Laser Turrets, with manually controlled ballistic cannons (as ballistics have a skill tree bonus vs subsystems).
These are all amazing but I absolutely love the idea of finding a NASA "shuttle" (NASA hate people calling them that), and having it modified to be re-usable and jump capable!
One benefit of long range particle beam turrets, when facing forward on your ship, is that they can hit ships exiting grav jump, which breaks their shield regen while the shields are still empty. Any time someone jumps from warp trying to ambush you you can bypass what would be 1,000+ points worth of shields. On a fast ship you could then close distance and open up with 6 Hellfire Autocannons and shred them in the blink of an eye.
I had a hunch auto particle beams were advantageous in comparison to single-shot beams, but I had no idea the specifications were this different. In practice, I can't imagine any situation in which you would want steady, heavy damage over the ability to spam more damage in shorter time, then reload while you're coming about again.
Great video, but on the weapons, how are you getting the ranges shown? For instance, the top range for the Vanguard Obliterator Auto projector and the PBO-175 for me is 3000, yet you have it listed as 4290. You have the Van Hellfire AC as 1144, whereas for me it is 800. None of the skills I have (lvl 126) seem to extend range.
It's probably a bug based off of what other creators came across in their videos...one mentioned this and said the actual range wasn't what was being shown.
All my builds are particle weapons w/wo EMs for boarding. I use the Vanguard Obliterators, and two sets of long range auto turrets. My best ships were based on the Claymore III, but now my most OP ship is a FreeStar Autoban III split in half, held together with 3 nova bracers like a catamaran. My docking port, landing bay, and cockpit are all on one side. I guess it's a kind of cheating, because it exploits the game mechanic where enemy ships shoot at center of mass, and miss me most of the time. I enjoyed your tutorial. I came to the same conclusions by trial and error. My biggest problem now is that all the enemy ships are destroyed before I can lock on them
Choosing your weapons depends on the purpose of your ship. If you just want to destroy go with particle beams. If you want to takeover the ships chose EM weapons. They will disable the ships without damaging them.
if particle beams are the best because they do equal damage then which skill and which crew do I get ? Ballistic or Laser ? does either work ? do I need both ? (I'm guessing both) I haven't found crew adept in Lasers (or both) yet. - To me the biggest difference in auto and not is the fact that you need to keep clicking to shoot with the non-autos, as where with the autos you just keep the button pressed, which is much easier to do in a hectic dog fight and turrets should make even more of a difference since you don't need to turn an aim, which is kinda difficult at lvl 13 for me right now.
Something you forgot to mention, the C type cockpits from Nova Galactic have stairs, using these cockpits can remove ladders entirely from a small ship, as long as you are willing to use a 3 wide cockpit
Great video. I was wondering why my Class C engines where slow af. So a class B reactor with class A white dwarf engines with low mass will have max speed and maneuverability
I think theyre called the disruptor 3320 particle beam. Those are pretty decent for sustained dps. They dont fire as fast but the reload time is non existent. The hunter mag missile launcher fires 10 before reload and puts out a bit more damage than the infiltrator I think. Could be wrong idr.
Hi. Please explain what affects the weapon ranges? In this video for ex. the PBO175 auto has a range over 4000 but when I install the same weapon on my ship the range is significantly lower?
Honestly, you can’t trust the ship builder UI. I have a video that explains that in depth: ua-cam.com/video/ekTAhn6u8us/v-deo.html Regarding weapon range specifically, I’m not getting that higher range in actual gameplay. I believe it’s applying my skill level multipliers to the weapon range presented, but that isn’t applied in-game. It’s a bug.
It probably was worth mentioning the bridge that has the ramps, but hopefully everyone knows that one. Can't wait for either elevator or suction tubes for vertical moves, and of course stairways on more than that bridge. I'd literally pay for them at this point.
You were right…too many people rushed to get their videos out and missed SO much stuff you covered. I learned a lot and I’m lvl 31. Thank you for taking your time and providing this in depth video 🤝🏽
Great video. Thanks
Hands down the best ship building tutorial I’ve seen. The comment about you still waiting for the mod that lets you eject your crew members into space had me in stitches.
Literally the only parts guide you’ll ever need. Plus your ship builds are awesome.
Much respect for putting this video together. I’m sure this was very time consuming for you.
Sooooo Informative. Level 152 and built a lot of ships… still found things I did know or hadn’t considered. Top notch content!
You get the same Wow’s from me for such a kind comment. Goodness, I’m not sure I deserve that, but thank you so very much!
The most comprehensive and beautifully done guide I have seen. Thanks and well done.
They missed a huge opportunity to not include export/import ship designs.
One of the finest ship building guides I've seen. Thanks for your hard work on this.
850hrs..lvl 110..only just getting into shipbuilding.. Was just changing up ships and upgrading. Great guide. 🚀🤓

Do it! Ship building is easily one of my favorite aspects of the game!
You live up to your handle as ShipTechnician. Thank you for an extremely informative discussion about top notch ship components, and how to balance those with ship performance. I'll use this guide on my next ship very soon.
Great video! A lot of these mechanics aren’t explained well by the game but make a huge difference to how a ship performs.
Pretty much what all the other comments are saying: very informative, best/most helpful ship building guide, cool ship builds. Nicely done!
Best. Starfield. Parts guide. Ever.
You earned a new sub with this video. Great detail. Thanks for showing the weapons in action. I had no idea the differences between auto and manual. The breakdown of which to choose depending on play style was awesome. Well done mate.
OMG your ships are freaking amazing! In the intro I really loved about 1/2 of them (basically all the ones I recognized).
Any chance you will release a "how to" video on how to make them? Or even perhaps a "transfer blueprint" when the tools are finally available?
Hallo, wanted to drop a major Thank You!!!, for the greater insight documentation dictation you have provided.
I was able to get My Frontier Version 1, up to 5 crew, which by the way, was growing very quickly. Looking forward to more of your in-depth explanations.
Thank you so much for putting this together. I've been looking for a quality comparison of parts for a while. Fantastic content

As a chronic min/maxer I love this kind of content. I also suck at space combat, so I'm planning a multi-turret Dreadnought to help me through.
Very well done sir. I appreciate your time and effort in this presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Keep up the good work ✌️
Lots of useful information I always overlooked or didn’t even know about in this video. Definitely going to bookmark this for my next ship build

Ooh hab spines, i didn't even know those existed before i watched this video. Awesome guide, thank you!
hands down, best ship parts explanation video.
What a truly outstanding video!
Excellent video, took me a long time to learn this stuff, wish I had a guide like this when I first started.
Important to note (and frustrating) is the missing connection points on some of the good reactors
Coming soon! Thank you!
Thank you so much for putting this together, as I was lost in all those options and not sure how to get the best parts, going to keep repeat watching till I understand all your calculations and mass and ratios. excellent video I even subscribed because of your explanation. I was so busy killing spacers I think I've missed half of what this game provides.

This was incredibly informative and helpful. Thank you. Subbed
Awesome Video!! Thank you so much for producing! Cheers 🎉
That sir, was a very good and informative vid. Thank you for this, I actually learned a couple of things. Well done.
Well presented, nicely informative. I agree w/ your decision not to list out all the various habs, it's been done to death.
You have amazing ship builds. I definitely want some of them lol
You forgot to link the DPS spreadsheet you mentioned around 20:00.
This may not be the list that the author mentions, but it is the best I've found.

Best tutorial so far.
So good info about ship building!
This is great! Thank you! In the process of building a new ship so this is just great! One question: are the "top" C tier engines available in NG+? I did the stroud quest in my original playthrough but it's of course not available after NG+. Once you "unlock" it, is that permanent?
Unfortunately no, you have to unlock them again in your NG+ universe
Sick video, sick collection. Thank you!!!
Great detailed vid,I'm still only rank 42 but look forward to getting access to these parts, what was your thoughts on the rail guns,I got a free ship from stroud Eiland and they seem quiet good.,also if you kill Ron hope can you still visit Hopetown?
a case for Lasers:
Hijacking Ships, I don't want them destroyed. so in this case a Laser Turret to automatically soften everything up, without accidentally destroying; is useful.
I'll typically pair Laser Turrets, with manually controlled ballistic cannons (as ballistics have a skill tree bonus vs subsystems).
I like running laser turrets and having manual particle weapons and suppressors for that exact reason
Wow! Could You please do a build toturial of the Long Night of Solance? It's impressive
The crew chatter is crazy!
The Space Shuttle design one at the start of the video is awesome.
This was SO helpful! Thank you! ♥
I had a hunch auto particle beams were advantageous in comparison to single-shot beams, but I had no idea the specifications were this different. In practice, I can't imagine any situation in which you would want steady, heavy damage over the ability to spam more damage in shorter time, then reload while you're coming about again.
Great vid, very informative.
My biggest problem now is that all the enemy ships are destroyed before I can lock on them
Sounds like a sweet ship! And I’m right there with you, craving more, and bigger, ship battles
where is the link for the spreadsheet? Love this Guide btw, helped me a lot!
So glad that I watched this video... I'm level 145 and thought I knew what I was doing but I didn't
I can't find anything on prerequisites for specific havs such as armory med bay and have with weapons and armor desks.
Good job. Ty
Something you forgot to mention, the C type cockpits from Nova Galactic have stairs, using these cockpits can remove ladders entirely from a small ship, as long as you are willing to use a 3 wide cockpit
I have used some of your ships, I like em
Thanks this is a very informative video.
Great video!
the particle beams are so op 4 on a ship melts anything
Excellent explanation ! 👏
Great video. I was wondering why my Class C engines where slow af. So a class B reactor with class A white dwarf engines with low mass will have max speed and maneuverability
Damn those ships are on fire!!!
Great video, thank you
Hi. Please explain what affects the weapon ranges? In this video for ex. the PBO175 auto has a range over 4000 but when I install the same weapon on my ship the range is significantly lower?
Honestly, you can’t trust the ship builder UI. I have a video that explains that in depth:
ua-cam.com/video/ekTAhn6u8us/v-deo.html
Regarding weapon range specifically, I’m not getting that higher range in actual gameplay. I believe it’s applying my skill level multipliers to the weapon range presented, but that isn’t applied in-game. It’s a bug.
Those ships are lovely.
Excellent. 👍
It probably was worth mentioning the bridge that has the ramps, but hopefully everyone knows that one. Can't wait for either elevator or suction tubes for vertical moves, and of course stairways on more than that bridge. I'd literally pay for them at this point.
