Official WASABI Moderator: Dear Jimmy. That brown algae is called diatoms. It's completely normal for it to appear in the first month or so of all new aquariums. You can use a toothbrush to remove it, and syphon it out on your water changes. If your new scape is using aqua soil, you must do daily 50 to 80% water changes for 1 week, then 50% every 3 days.
