My 06 had the same issue. Mine turned out to be a bad ground connection from the engine to the body. It was on the body side of the grounding strap. The body ground for the battery cable was also not so great. Once I repaired both issues, the problem never occurred again.
I have a 2006 Mercedes Vito which has the exact same problem .. Got me stuck a few times and then after 45 minutes of switching on and off .. she starts ... sometimes jumpstarting does it too . But last night I disconnected the battery to see if that would keep the charge . CONNECTED THIS MORNING AND STARTED FIRST KICK .. So I have taped it down to a faulty relay possibly . Funny thing is that when it does start , virtually all electrics are dead . Windows , wipers , gauges ,indicators , dash lights all dead while running ..If I stop and switch on the ignition , everything comes back to life but cannot start again ..Could be ECU too ..?
Love it when I learn something! Thank you!
Sprinter van's battery terminal clamps are one of the greatest reasons ever to own a 10mm ratcheting box wrench: even better than a same-size socket!
