In this video I Replace all my brake components and upgrade the front rotors to a massive 390mm rotors.
Lastly, I finally found a pad that doesn't billow out brake clouds every drive, Check it out!

You are my go-to resource for W212 info especially now that I just picked up a 2016 E63S! Awesome job man. Every time I see a notification that you’ve dropped a new video, I get very excited to watch it! Thank you, keep doing what you do!
Haha, thanks. I'm just glad someone is watching
Excited on the refinishing of the calipers.
Same rotors and brakes, can’t beat it!
thanks for the video. Using your hands to push/pull the brake pads away from the rotor is awesome! never thought of doing it that way....
Ya, I was surprised how easy they were to retract
Just found your channel. You helped me get rid of all the noise in my car and now I have a cracked rim that Im checking you out for inspiration!
Thanks for the support man, hope I didn't jinx ya lol.
Good luck on the wheels
Is there a way to code the vehicle for the bigger front rotors? Technically this changes the brake bias but not sure if it is electronically controlled (which could theoretically be coded).
That's an awesome upgrade on rotors. Especially the price you got them on sale👍👍👍 I feel like my brake need that upgrade with 900+hp. Daily driving is fine with stocks and don't really want to go with carbon ceramics. As always Ken you are the man. Your knowledge should lead you in AMG engineering team 🔥 fire content 🔥
Thanks man, I'm very pleased with the way they came out
900 hp on 212 e63s ?? Is it stock internals and how many miles have you put on it while its 900 hp
@No FACE AHK it is W218 cls63s... same platform.... internals upgraded with Weistec pistons&rods, transmission reinforced with clutch pack and Weistec oil pan, WMI, upgraded pure turbos and cooling upgrades. I would say 25k miles, running strong 💪 no issues. Check my channel for more detailed mod list
If it's a new to me used car, I open bleed screw when resetting pistons in caliper. In high humidity areas brake fluid absorbs moisture and causes corrosion, you could force particles of that corrosion into ABS valving or Master causing premature failure. Also helps when flushing brake fluid too.
Great idea
Love the carbon color brakes with the red paint! Big thumbs up from me brother 🔥🔥💪🫡🤜🤛
Thank you! Cheers!
Hmmmm, looks like I need to upgrade mine! Such an easy car to work on, I love it
You can do it!
I get excited when you post a new video. No one else makes videos on the w212
Haha, I'm trying, hope these help
You should have done a video on the caliper repaint they came out real good
Always enjoy your videos!
Thanks man
Your thoughts on 2010 or 2011 E63?
@Jeff McNaney the 6.2 l in those is a totally different beast. A lot of people love it, but it was also one of Mercedes most problematic engines. However, they did seem to fix the problem near the end of the run so the 11 should be safe.
If you Google, m156 serial number head bolts, you'll find an article that tells you what exact serial number was the last engine to avoid. After that point they're all safe
Awesome and helpful video Ken. I wish you did some break tastes with the new brake set up. Some of us have the same car so we are looking up to you and seeing what your doing. But anyways keep these videos coming with the e63, very helpful and great content. I’m debating if I should upgrade to these rotors.
Thanks!
They're actually is a bit of misconception, larger brakes don't actually help you stop faster, you're going to always be limited by the traction of your tires.
The benefit to better or larger brakes as they are more efficient, meaning they make less heat to do the same job. Because of the increased radius or leverage, less Pad force is required and thus less heat.
This reduces break "fade"
So practically, if I went out there with cold breaks and did a 100-0. Likely the first comparison would be identical.
However, after a couple more, that's where you'll see the larger brakes will significantly outperform smaller brakes,
Great Video! Thank you Ken!
Thanks Mike, how's the 355?
@@ExoticCarDIY the 355 is fantastic Ken, going to be doing an engine out later this year! Love your videos, cheers!
Another killer vid! I thought I was stuck with OE front rotors as there are no replacements I could find (for the front) I'll be upgrading on the next round.
That Sir-Mix-a-Lot intro had me rolling 😂
😁
Deep gold calipers look great. Niiiice combo
I'm so happy with the color
@@ExoticCarDIY what is the color you used???
@@JuanEspinoza-vd1nx its a Honda color, I put it in the description.
Awesome video, as always. Please do a video on the caliper refinishing. I need it on mine and would like to see it done right.
Thanks man, if I made a refinishing video, it would be me sitting in the shop for 12 hours watching youtube, while sanding those stupid calipers lol.
Painting is fun, takes a little practice to get it right, get a compressor, and a paint gun and start learning
Nice vid. I want to do this upgrade. May i know what are the dimensions of those spacers for the brackets?
Awesome content 👌 👍
Thank you 🙌
hey man, new sub'd here! thanks for all the info!
Thanks for the sub!
how in general? happy with the result after a while
I clicked on the link for the OEM front rotors. Amazon is saying they don’t fit a 2015 E63S? Just want to make sure before purchasing. Thanks!
From someone that has taken a DOT4 bath from their power bleeder: yes those hoses do rupture sometimes. Brake fluid everywhere. All over the engine bay, all over the car, under the hood, all over my lift, all over the garage, and all over me as I scrambled to relieve pressure. That's not an unfounded fear and I wrap mine with towels now.
Yeah, still scares me to this day, I wonder after every couple years I should just buy a new hose for it just in case. It would literally leave the equivalent of a grenade going off for the paint on your car
You just never fail to shock me in every one of your videos. How do you find out that Porsche bolts would work?😂 and great work on the spacers lol
I spend more time researching, than I do actually working on the cars lol
One quick question, does those amazon rotors coming in pair or just 1 ?
what are the specs on the spacers so I can have my machinist make me some
Awesome brother. Wondering what the recommendation tire size to update for?
For stock wheels? Or 20s?
Hello. The part number for the OEM brakes in your comments are fro a C Class. ( 219 ) not an E Class ( 212 ) Are you saying that you can purchase A2194210212 for USD 465 instead of A2124210512 or USD 843 per rotor and they will work, have similar specs? Most part sites say 219 rotors wont fit a 2015 E63S in America, or will they?
Excellent work on the modifications on the rotors upgrade. I want to do same on porsche 971 4s calipers are too small. My question where can I buying those spacers instead of changing the calipers.
Likely super cheap at a machine shop.
Hi, I want to know the Parts number on the Brake Caliper Bolt 2014 E63 amg S ( W212) for 360mm. I tried to DIY brake job but both bolts ( upper & lower ) was broken. I really appreciate your help. Thanks!!
will be doing 402x39 on non AMG CLS :O
Hi man!!!💪🏿👋🏼🤝🔝 Is there any disk runout? at what speed when braking???
Great video !! When you took the calipers off to refinish them, did you cap off the brake lines or just pinch the lines? I’ve been wanting to do the same for a while but was scared i would have to use the computer to bleed them properly.
Hope you make the video on the process of refinishing the brakes… 😆
No computer needed for bleeding on the 212.
The rears, I just disconnected the brake line at the caliper and cap them off with a rubber cap. On the fronts, I disconnected them at the inside of the fender well, and cap them there
Hey, going to be doing this tbis weekend, fknally got my rotors and the spacers from berti. The mevhanic I take my car to said yo do brake you need to "deactivate" them with Xentry, so now Im confused. As I understand I should lock the car, take the key far away, and notntouch any handles or trunk etc. as to not activate any of the keyless features while doing work. Can you provide some guidance on that? I dont have a lift, so Im doing it one side at a time wirh jacks and stands.
Your mechanic is wrong unfortunately.
What he is referring to is what the newer Mercedes have, the rear calipers have to be unlocked in order to retract the pistons.
But even then, he's wrong again, because you don't need xentry, you can do it on the dash under the cluster.
Rest assured, for a w212 it's literally a normal brake job no different than a 1990 Camaro LOL
@@ExoticCarDIY Thanks. I just found he knocked my 360° camera on my right side out of alignment. So I don't know what I'm going to do about that now 😑
How do I unlock the rear brakes? I'm doing a complete brake job this weekend. (New pads all around, new rear rotors, 390mm front rotors, and new fluid)
What were those silver brackets next to the red ones in the beginning of the video?
And funny cuz last year on the forums I said the same thing! Use 15mm spacers and 15mm longer bolts. But I decided not to do it because it requires 19” wheels and I want to drive 18s
When I was trying to find the OEM brackets I found a set, one red one silver. They didn't fit like I said in the video, turned out they're actually for an SL65 with a 390 mm brakes. Actually sold them both already pretty quick
I think the color for Carbon Ceramics is not the same or as glossy as yours. Honestly, I really like them!
I was nervous at first, but I absolutely love it now, thanks
Have you covered your wheel specs in another video? I know they are 20s, but what are the widths and offsets if you don't mind sharing? The stance looks perfect
I did around 9 minutes in this video ua-cam.com/video/LWA9i23uKP8/v-deo.htmlsi=i2QqeLTd5mfTF7lM
The only thing that's changed since then is I'm running a 305/25 in the rear
what’s the size of the spacer for the caliper? if the original rotor is 360 and upgraded is 390 , the spacer should be 20mm? and if we go brembo 360mm front rotor, isn’t the stock oe rotor is cheaper than brembo?
The spacers is 30mm in diameter and 15mm tall.
Brembo makes the OEM rotors, they are one is the same.
Brakes look great, can you share the size of the spacers that you had machined please?
Id guess 30mm in height as from 360 to 390.
And what ever m size the bolts are
They are 30 mm in diameter, 15 mm tall. Stainless 304, and the hole in the middle is just big enough for a M12 bolt to fit through
@@ExoticCarDIY Thanks for the info, running a 2015 E63s over here in the UK, bigger brake mod is something i'm interested in as the Carbon Ceramic option is looking to be a tad too pricey!
Nice work, Kenny. I did the same setup as you i think, even the pads, but I didn't need to add those spacers. Everything fit fine. I bought them on fcp euro. Maybe the cls is different??
It's what I thought I was buying initially, was CLS 390mm brake caliper brackets. The ones I got though obviously didn't fit. So I'm not sure what ones they actually belong to. If you get a chance, can you send me the part numbers off of the brackets you have?
I also bought my set from fcp. They look exactly the same, thinking they were 390mm while watching the video, But I just checked and they are 360 mm for the E class and CLS… will be doing the conversion in the future. Nice little upgrade 👍🏼
Would it be a direct replacement on the cls since I have the 360x36mm already
Check your mbworld messages kenny I wrote you
What is the exact size of the spacer
Im assuming 30mm thick by 25mm diameter?
Awesome video! 8:33 You mention that all torque specs will be in the description, but I cannot seem to find them. Specifically wondering about torque spec for bolts you are installing at that point in the video (caliper to caliper bracket through your newly installed spacers). TIA!
according to mercedes doc ba42.10-p-1001-10t is 120nm or 88ft/lbs
@@ExoticCarDIY Much appreciated! I did this job using the 360mm Brembo rotors, and same Powerstop pads, on my 2014 E63S wagon yesterday. Everything went smoothly thanks to this video! Thank you!
@@carterblythman44 enjoy the lack of dust!
Awesome content man! I have the Carbon Ceramic brakes on my 2017 CLS63s. I hope they won't break anytime soon, since if they do, I'll go straight to your method what you have done here. The complete set costs somewhere about 19,700€ (over $20k).
Crazy how expensive this ceramic brakes are.. I do wish mine had them factory though
Carbons were meant for track/racing duty (not the 1/4 track) abd fairky useless except for a slight weight drop. Oh and they dont reduce braking distance, they actually lengthen braking distance by 8 ft. I was going to upgrade to carbons or find a car that had them but after I saw a few magazine comparisons between the steel vs carbon in a few publications and been told by multiole AMG master techs to avoid unless I will be racing the car on weekends at circut events.
MasterCarguy44 crashed the car yesterday unfortunately. A guy tried to switch lanes in my left lane and I tried to brake, but it was too late. Fatal front crash, nothing happened to me or to anyone, just a good crash. Had the car for three months only, so that would be about it and the carbon brakes.
@@privatemarijan Time to probably find a more reliable, lower maint vehicle. I hear from those AMG Master Techs that the newer 4.0TT is not as good as the old 5.5TT and what makes the newer E63s such a rocket isnt that 604 hp 4.0TT but its 9 spd trans. Abd I had no idea this trans, the early version is in the CLS 550.
MasterCarguy44 No, I won't... W218/W212 AMG 63/s would be my cars for life. The M157 engine is a great engine (2015-2018), and you won't find anything similar to it ever. I'm really sad and frustrated that it happened, and I'm not sure what to do next. I'll get the money from my insurance, but my heart just hurts to buy something else. I've searched for a CLS that had these carbon brakes, Bang and olufsen and almost all options for months, and couldn't find anything similar to my taste. The newer cars are just shit. I might make a video tomorrow about it, about the accident and post some pictures also. The car can be repaired, but I'm not sure if it would be smart.
Man I hate how dusty the OEM pads are. My calipers are also losing their clear coat, and funnily enough that is the exact color I was thinking of having them redone in (or a blue like Spoon calipers for Hondas since my car is gray and I like that color combo too). I painted my Brembos on my Acura TL in a similar color (car was Deep Green Pearl) and in the sun it really pops. My front brakes were redone right before I got it but will definitely be keeping this video handy for when the rears need replacing. Might have to swap out the front pads for the ceramics though, the dust is driving me crazy lol
It's been a month with these pads, I keep liking them more and more. And they are cheap!
Anyway, the bright red and cardinal red just clashed, lots of other colors would work, but the copper/ gold just seem to go so well with cardinal red.
@@ExoticCarDIY how is the brake pedal feel with the new pads and have you noticed any squeaking or stopping distance difference compared to the OEM pads?
@@michaelsherwood3047 I'm thoroughly impressed, zero noise, pedal feel and buy is perfect and no dust!
I am sincerely considering doing the same upgrade since my rotor are due to be replaced. The brakets for the 390mm are they the one for the SL65 AMG? If so maybe it is possible to get them from the Dealership?
I am trying to figure where to find hem!
The bracket I bought were from something else ... No idea, maybe a w221? Or rwd w218?
Solo motor sports makes one for 700bucks, and also some random Russian web site is selling some. So I made my own.
If you figure out what OEM bracket works, let me know
@@ExoticCarDIY I will definitely have a look into this. If I find answers I will let you know!
You have a link or product name for the brake bleeder you used?
Yup, I'll add it to the description
amzn.to/3UYbvcv
Dumb question but does the link for the rotors come with 1 rotor or 2? I know what the picture looks like but it doesn’t say 1 or 2 just weight…..
The Amazon link appears to be for just one. I got mine from eBay, the seller was selling them as a pair, but I think they just made a price mistake and listed them for the price of one. They've since correct their error, but the price does fluctuate.
@@ExoticCarDIY I’ll keep my eyes open. Thanks dude
Kenny, can you share the Porsche bolt part number please?
Perfect timing (as always) on releasing this video. Well done!
Forgot to add them to the description porsche 9A700758500
Hey brotha btw just wanted to ask - do you still recommend the race chip piggy back?
I do to a certain extent.
If you're just looking for a nice bump and power, it's perfect for that.
If you're looking for all out, 800 rear wheel horsepower, obviously it's not for that
The reason I say to a certain extent is I'm just becoming more wary of tunes on these cars in general. I watch a lot of Taos M's vids, and some of the things he finds on these cars is concerning. Bent rods and scoring cylinders etc.
I'm comfortable with 577 horsepower, and in the next thing I'm going to try is just a TCU tune so I can have all of that horsepower in first second and third gear
@@ExoticCarDIY yes I have a 550 M278 just looking for a little bump in power. Nothing crazy. I don’t need AMG+ levels of power. Just something I can toy around with. Thanks again I’m going to buy one soon.
will the 390mm rotors work with stock 19" rims
Yes, I even show pictures/with stock 19s in this video
How many pads do you need for your front and rear brakes? I am following your build but going with OEM rotors not the 390mm
Each part number in my description is a set of pads., So you'll just need to order one of each
@@ExoticCarDIY I appreciate your help. I am ordering the parts off your description. The OEM pads have been a pain with all the brake dust. Can’t wait to try these. Also your videos are the best 🤙🏽
@@ExoticCarDIYI ordered pads, rotors from your description and included OEM sensors as well. Installation was easy and they work amazing. Thank you for your videos! Very helpful!
Where can i get the brackets from

Sure, here's the corrected English version:
"Hello, unfortunately the brake pads for the front axle are no longer available. Could you possibly help me and tell me which Brembo brake pads would fit? I currently have 360mm and would like to upgrade to 390mm."
Mercedes E63s W212 2014
I still show all parts available (I'm I'm the USA) either way, the pads are the same 360 or 390. Use brand any you would like. I just am happy with the dust free
All parts listed yet all parts unavailable from amazon?
Try different sellers, or just use the part numbers and plug them in eBay or Google
don't be so lazy just google the parts
I assume you had 15mm spacers machined to allow for the 30mm bigger diameter.
Correct. Ss304 30mm diameter, 15mm tall, just big enough hole for the M12 bolt
Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the spacers as I am going to machine some myself. My discs need replacing and as I can get a set of 390s for less than stock seems rude not to upgrade

Is there really no existing spacer or bracket to do this?
There is a company in Atlanta called solo Motorsports will sell one for $650.... Haha, nope
I did speak to my machinist, he says he can make these for about 200 each. As an individual go, I can't take down the liability.
I think there is, but apparently I can't find it LOL.
My understanding is the CLS have an option for 390 mm performance brakes. The CLS and e-class share most of their parts. But.... Still can't find it
@@ExoticCarDIY I think some quality time in EPC could help. I'll take a look.
Ok the bracket is not a separate part. They do have some kind of number on them, but it's not a regular Mercedes number. I can use EPC to find the P/N for calipers which were used with the 390mm rotors though, and then the idea would be to find a closeup image of the right bracket, and hope A) you can find one and B) it is compatible with our knuckle and caliper...
Can I do this to my e550? It's basically the same car right?
Although I've not checked, I'm pretty sure the all w212 4matics share most of the parts, including the knuckle. So in theory, if you had the same calipers, yes, it would be the same process
bolt size on the bracket/adapter is different - 14mm amg vs 12 mm non AMG . So you would need custom machined adapter for caliper. Rest should fit.
Please tell me, What are the dimensions for spacers.
