From HEAVEN TO HELL: Aunty Koh's CENDOL + DEVIL'S CURRY | Full Day Of Eating In Melaka
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 сер 2019
- From heaven to hell! What an intense day of eating in Melaka!
Dim Sum famous for their custard buns, sounds like no better time to go than early in the morning to me! I went and ended up ordering wayyy too much food. The dim sum was pretty good, but a few dishes really stood out to me!
Next, you have to try the chicken and rice balls while in Melaka. Now, I will say the rice balls are very unique, but I think I would just rather stick with the actual rice next time. However, if you are in the area and there is no line, just give it a try!
Had to go far out for this one. Aunty Koh’s cendol usually sells out within a couple hours. And I now know why. What a wonderful lady and heavenly cendol.
Back into the city for some popiah...however this was like no other popiah I have ever eaten before. This an artery clogging, pork lard loaded popiah. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Finally, it is time for the devil’s curry. However, I ended up ordering an array of dishes at this restaurant as it was my first time trying these Portuegese influenced dishes! I must say, I think I will be eating Portuegese good a few more times in my life.

I'm greedy so I'll want both please 🙋
Is winter here but cendol anytime pls haha
“Oh lord I have been a sinner but I have seen the light” 🤣🤣
it was a very emotional moment for me
“This is worth the future heart problems I’m gonna have” 🤣
Best quote of 2019!
@@killerxyphon Hope it wins an award.
That cendol does look awesome - so well balanced and blended. Plus the owner seems so sweet, which adds to the experience
I loved that you helped Auntie Koh around her shop. It really warmed my heart because in Asian countries we have the utmost respect for our elderly.
Cool to see that style of Hainanese chicken rice with the rice balls. That sauce does look great! Can’t blame you for dousing it in sauce - would do the same!
You're absolutely right MM, the chilly sauce that comes with the Hainanese chicken rice is simply THE BEST! Thanks for sharing. I'm really enjoying your Malacca series.
Sweettttt!! Yes, the stay in Malacca was reallllly nice! Was sad to go
My goodness...That cendol looks so phenomenal! It’s so thick & creamy I’m drooling! This is by far the funniest video you have made Max! Awesome! Keep up the good work man 👍🏼 👍🏼
yeah, starting to feel more and more comfortable
Just came across your channel yesterday, just keep up the good work and you will get a million subs 👌
long way to go but going to enjoy the journey! glad you found the channel!
Hi Max, Looks so appetizing😋😋 mouth-watering😋
Loved it Max . My favorite I think was the steamed cream / pudding buns in the beginning . I would have to pick the cool cendol
yeah, not going to lie....those were amazing too!!!
Love your content esp how you effortlessly put forth on flavors, texture while putting away that amazing devil curry, lava custard buns and cendol. I'm usually speechless eating & comatose after
haha the comatose definitely came after this video. I may start prescribing devil curry, lava custard buns, and cendol for people who need to sleep better, ha!
@@Macoi24 a curry feast topped by 2 cendols vs a sleeping pill... Easy choice. Food coma!
The Aunty Koh’s cendol is super near to my hometown’s house. Glad u like that. The best cendol ever !!! 👍👍👍👍👍
I love it!
Looks amazing! Would love to try those durian puffs🤤
You're crushing it, Max! Super proud of you, and enjoying your progress! Wish I could join you overseas.
thanks brother! Well, lets link up in December, Ill be back in ARK.
Amazing, please give us more!
I’m so jealous of those durian puffs! They look great.
The cendal looks good, but I would go for the spicy curry. Love curry, love spicy.
Thanks for another great post Max. Watching your food tours is fantastic. - Mike
Always good to hear you are enjoying Mike! This was just really a top day for me! I think youd love that curry if you like that spice!
Oh my gosh so many delicious foods 😍 those pork buns and custard buns would be my favourite. All those dishes looked fantastic though, Yummm
The custard buns for the win though. Dim sum always has my heart haha
It's great how you've caught up with the Hokkiene word and roll, the "Popiah!" Look out for the other nyonya kuehs - like tapioca pud, (forgotten the nyonya word) angkoo and dozens more of fragrant nyonya kuehs. Hope you 'll have the chance to eat them! I'm moved to make that Malacca trip for my health and food heaven.
Hmm, I honestly probably ate them in my time in Malaysia but just don't know it haha
Man you can eat! That is alot of food..so glad u r enjoying food in Melaka
Omg, I was just browsing and lo and behold Max. Great to see you again in Melaka. Hmm shrimp shumai awesome. I love the way you describes what you are eating and of course again your facial expression can make anyone hungry to eat.hmmm. According to the calendar behind you the blog was made July 20. It’s August 26 as I watch this. Rice balls and chicken with hot spicy sauce.... another great blog Max....thank you. Lol “oh lord I know I’m a sinner but”....hahaha.
haha yes, I made so much content that I am behind on getting it edited but that will change soon! Wow, I am actually laughing because you saw from the calendar! That is really smart of you!
Max McFarlin like I said, I look at your surroundings also when you eat or walk. I love it.
@@Macoi24 Am a bit late but since you can take spicy, you should have eaten the dim sum (shui mei, har kau, carot cake) with chilli sauce instead of vinegar.
Very nice foods you enjoy it all big meat bun very fresh healthy foods thank you for sharing your beautiful food enjoy your holiday there thank you
Great video. Thanks, Max!
my pleasure:)
Can’t believe I just discovered you. I love this guy!

@@Macoi24 well,we should always have expectations instead of fantasy to plan a trip,so u wont get upset too easily(typically women, always dream of the scenario u know😂~) ,especially when u go to country that totally different culture, but i can see u really a traveller, adventurer, very adaptive, i sure u can have a very happy and memorable journey, bless u bro😎
@@happyofunny5368 yes, thanks for the awesome comments and it was good talking to you and hearing from you. Wishing you all the best!
I especially love watching you eat chillies. 😋
Great research as ussual 🤗
haha if you like the research, then this next video is going to be crazy good!
“I got way too much food” - relatable 🤣
food lovers problem hahaha
Great looking meals 😋
I love how you are willing to try anything especially spicy dishes . It's amazing how a southern gentleman like you has no prejudice against Asian food. I guess food is universal. I live in California and I wish people here are more adventurous when it comes to food like you . I'm Asian and I find it hard to make my friends try my food. Well one could only hope . Keep showing us your kind of eats!
yessir! I got a lot more to come! What dishes do you make? Like what part of Asia are you from? I would think Cali would be more open minded about Asian food since it has such a big Asian influence.
@@Macoi24 hi Max! I'm Filipino and heavily influenced by Chinese by my Mom and Malay by my Dad. I cook a lot of regional Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese and lately Indonesian dishes. Here in San Diego, the "mainstream" Asian dishes are very well represented but in the Westernized versions. It's hard to find authentic dishes that's why most people I know here thinks that, for example, Filipino food is just adobo or lumpia when there are other dishes they need to try. I think your channel not only provides entertainment but also educates us of the different cultures represented by dishes that are out there untapped. Thank you for taking us to your travels!
@@hungryasianboy Woah, that is so cool! You have a very diverse and neat family ancestry! Hmm, yes I understand completely. The PH is hard to understand though because with so many islands the foods are crazy diverse! I think the USA needs people like you to educate and continue to help them understand there is more to PH food than adobo and lumpia(Not that there is anything wrong with them because they are delicious) but like you said, there is so much more out there! Maybe ease them into the bagoong hahaha kidding. I could really use some bagoong isda with rice, eggs, and sausage right now...mmmm
@@Macoi24 I tried giving them bagoong but they don't like the smell of it. I'll keep trying. They say you have to try something 21 times before you like it. Have a great day!
Leo Tubon maybe try it different ways like with a green mango
Koh Chik’s cendol is the BEST! My friends and I call her ‘Koh Chik’ coz we’re best mates with her niece. Also, Koh Chik’s family supplies cendol (the green stuff) to many peranakan eateries in town. If it’s pale/ dull/ lumpy and not vibrant green and glossy then you know it’s not from the Koh family. They also make the best dodol unfortunately it’s not for sale.
p/s: ‘Koh Chik’ means father’s youngest sister. ‘Koh’ is a term used to address father’s sisters whereas ‘Chik’ is derived from ‘kechik’ which means small/ young.
Awesome! Very informative post, thank you so much!
Great food! Watching at your video, wanna go back to Malaysia.
you and me both
I could listen to him talk about food all day. Lol
That is my hometown , i guess the chicken rice ball is the best ! that can found only in malacca , the chilli is awesome^^
Curry look awesome, and the ice cool cendol make me sooo curious hehe, In Bandung we have very delicious cendol Elisabeth too
I want to come try!
Hi, new subscriber ...envy you at the moment as I'm from Melaka originally 😊😊
Ah what an amazing place to grow up haha! But thanks for subscribing and welcome to the family!
Everything you eat is delicious.
Addicted af colab with Luke and Sabrina would be 🔥
Hi max.. i'm new here, then subscribed you, you are very good to explain the the food taste. i love how you enjoyed your food. keep a good word, im waiting every your new video. BTW.. cendul.. should pronounce CHEN-DOLL
Hey welcome to the family! Really happy to hear that! Especially since I have a lot of videos coming out right now!
The moment I saw u split the custard bun in half I shouted noooo inside of my head hahahah
That is a salted egg custard btw. I usually make a small opening and slowly sip and eating the bun at the same time =)
had to show the people the inside!
I miss mlk. Stayed there a year for work. Great memory. Ahahahahahaha U really Malaysian ald, a kopi to start the day.
Oh, u found Auntie Koh👍 customers there have to pay, pick cutlery and wash dish by themselves lol. She selling so fast, I still can’t get a chance to have it, been heard from local about her.
Next time try to ask for a local help, Malaysian are mostly friendly and helpful ☺️👍
If you’re ever back in Malaysia you should consider visiting Kelantan. The dishes there are unique to the state as it’s near the Thai border. You can find Malay-Thai fusion food. :)
I may or may not already have plans:)
Awww that cendol aunty is just too cute.
Finally it’s Malaysia’s time. Thinking of switching your base in Vietnam? We welcome you.
Dimsum, chicken and rice ball, cendol, durian puff, poppiah, portugis food, wow alot, and delicious Max ❤👍
Yes, I ate so much and next video will be even more!!!
@@Macoi24 But you lucky not looking fat after eat alot food 😀👍
Love it !!
🙏🙏🙏
A cendol made with love is worth all the work that you did for aunty Koh right? Hahaha. And that popiah was something I have never seen in Singapore before!! Looks AMaZing!
that popiah was amazing. and the walk plus help was all worth the cendol
We Indonesian also have cendol with flavor of durian or jackfruit.. Maybe you'll find red or black cendol in some areas..
Come and try some! 😄
My favourite Melaka dish is their savoury pork satay..... other states/countries have a sweet marinade
I'm full just by looking at you eat 💖
Max, do you have a cameraman or you do everything yourself? Green mango on stick with bagoong and rock salt on top is also my fav sf, if you find some try some and give me a shout out on yb lol 😂. thank you max for another awesome vid, I’m hooked...
haha nah man it is all me! no cameraman
Mouth watering food...all of them
Hey hey...Im kinda late but welcome back to Msia. I never tried devil curry before but I use to drive all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka just for ice cendol. 🤣🤣
And the way your ordered so many foods on the table but seating there alone remind me of me coz the waiter will always ask, alone? 😂😂
hahahahahha same thing happens to me!!! also, melaka cendol is the best...just saying😋
Love old school eats!!
Hi Max, the place that you eat the popiah at Jalan Bunga Raya. Nearby there is a stall along this road which is call by the local "Hungry Lane". Right in front of this food stall there is a guy selling sugar cane drink. And as you walk in, the first stall on your right selling Roasted Pork Rice (Cha Siew Rice). Try that, you'll love it.
Thanks for the recommendations buddy! Will have to try them next time, I am not in Malacca anymore!
hi max,
just watched your latest video ( great video btw ) I rarely comment on videos but i like your style so im intrigued by your background. Is there a 1st vlog that explains your background of cooking ect, how do you pay for all your travels, are you a trained chef? I have sooooo many questions ..... I also notice you dont really respond to many so i am not expecting but hoping for a response
Hmmm, you know I do not have a video like that. I have a little bit about "me" on my website, but I will be doing a few things in the future so that hopefully people can learn more about me and how I got started into all this and I will be able to answer any of your questions.
Loving your Malaysian series Max. Hope there're more to come. Everything looked so mouth watering
next video will be crazy amounts of food!
Kudos for trying Portuguese infused cuisine in Melaka. Very few vloggers explore the local food the way you do. Cheers!
My pleasure, just wanted to try it all! Which I am pretty sure I did and why I put on 15lbs haha
@@Macoi24 I hear ya... the last time I was back there I put on 20 in 2 weeks... 5 full meals a day will do that to ya. lol!
haha mannnn, I always put on weight in Malaysia
OMG, Max, do you know how many times I have to Aunty Koh's cendol stall and missed it as it was all sold out. You are lucky and I even threatened Aunty Koh that she is off my Christmas card lists and she replied that she does not celebrate Christmas and I told her she is then off my Chinese New Year card list well. You lucky bugger to be able to sample Aunty Koh's legendary cendol.
haha that is a funny and sad story all in one! Just do what I do, I got there at 10am😂😂😂
@@Macoi24 How did you know to go to all the usual great food haunts in Malacca. I just came back from there to Melbourne and it was refreshing to watch the good food places and in fact you sat on the same spot where I sat whilst having the Yong Moh dim sum. Who told you about the Bunga Raya popiah, Aunty Koh's cendol, etc? You missed the Hoe Kee chicken rice ball further down the street to Chung Wah. It is better than Chung Wah.
just lots and lots of research! Takes awhile, but I think it really matters when it comes to making the videos!
I recommend eating that turnip cake with a sweet sauce like sambal or sweet chili sauce.
thank you for helping her
of course!
A feast for the eyes & party on the stomach. My gosh 🎉🥳
hahaha sounds wild!
WTF,...!!!! How do you stay in shape with those kinda treats????? You got me jealous! :)))
haha pretty sure I walked it off that day!
@@Macoi24 You are doing a great job!! Let me have your diet! ....and your metabolism!! hahahah
@@Macoi24 I might have to walk from Melaka to Singapore to ease off those amounts of food! lol
thank you so much!!!! haha I think it is because I always move!
haha omg this made me laugh way too much!
OMG look so yummy ..if i watch ur video i need prepare food too..
haha always best to watch with snacks.
@@Macoi24 yeah that's true...always make me hungry when i watch your video
Yum yum yum..
Where is your next state ?
Penang pls.
I have another video from Malacca first...and then a 5 part Penang series.
In minute 9.36 the Woman asked You want sweet? I guess you had to replied her like this. NO, I'm sweet already.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Max! Please please please try salted egg pan cakes at the daily fix cafe in jonker street. My favorite cafe so far in Malacca. And also you might try their smoked duck salad. Yum!
Ah, I didnt get to try! I am not there anymore. Hmmm, I had I think it was the pandan pancakes?
@@Macoi24 oh dear... hahahaha maybe next time. I'm staying in KL but will go to Malacca just to have that salted egg yolk pancakes. It is "that" good 😄

OMG, you eat delicious food all the time😍 by the way, did you wash your own bowl after done eating the Cendol? 🤣
I washed both of them and my spoon! hahaha
@@Macoi24 you're so nice, the lady surely loves you!

I like both of em. The ice cool cendol will for sure cool me down after the fiery curry. So where we off too next.....?
got another one from Malacca coming!
@@Macoi24 I be right with you.
Max, if you want your coffee thicker, add a suffix of 'kau' after your 'kopi C kosong'. Or for a more diluted version add the suffix 'siew dai' instead
Ohhh didnt know about that trick! I am a "kua" type of person haha
sweaty max any day! that all looked yum!
haha that is hilarious! was a very good day
Who's watching this video while you are hungry? :)
Hey Max, I would love to see a video of you introducing some of the delicacies in Chinese! Of course, include english subs for other english speaking audiences.
hahahaha that would give the people who can speak Chinese a really good laugh😂
Omg durian puffs
Now I want some Dim sum huhuhu
good choice for the dim sum shop!
Thanks! I figured it was good when I left because it got packed quick!
That's behind jonker right.
You gotta eat most of your dimsum with sauce, Max. Some items are kind of flavourless.
My bad, thought you were still in Philippines green mangoes in pi
Get this man to 100K subs!
LETS GOOOOO!!!!
Wow,wow,wow,yummy!!!🤗😄❤️👍
yeesssssss:)))
Good choice with the cendol... Melaka cendol I dare say is better than Penang... there's a reason why the syrup is called Gula Melaka 😋 But just a tip, if the eatery isn't Cantonese... Don't bother with the dimsum 😅... Melaka will always be nyonya cuisine for me
I agree with Cendol and hmmmm yeah it was interesting, but I wanted to try!
