One of my main memories of SKy Sports in the 90s was that they ran loops of Lewis' highlights on repeat. He was a phenom of the era. I used to be such a brat bragging about his KO of Tyson, not realising the difference in timing of their careers. I think his fights against Mcall and Holyfield I watched from the dining room in my hideout behind the newspaper rack. sorry to interfere ,however I confirm that Lewis never ducked a fight .He had announced his retirement before the Vitali fight and wasn't even supposed to face him at all.Vitali (whom I consider another amazing champ ) was 6 years younger and in way better shape .It was a great close fight in which Lennox prevailed .Sometimes one shot can end a fight ,like it happened with Delahoya vs Hopkins etc.. That said lewis went out his comfort zone and postponed retirement to face the Great Vitali and once again proved to be the best .There hasn't been any rematch simply cause he retired from the sport and honestly I confidently say that Lewis would never withdraw or fear anyone ,he is a real fighter and warrior .We will never know if Vitali could have won the rematch what we know for sure is that Lewis did not avoid him for fear .

One of the most underrated boxes of all time. The guy was totally dominant and couldn't buy the respect he deserved. He just got better and better (Emanuel Steward had that effect on fighters). He was a complete boxer-puncher and a total class act. He didn't show boat and disrespect his opponents (Ali/Roy Jones/Ray Leonard) he just went out there and handled his business. He also became a great commentator post boxing career. Loved watching this guy fight and glad he ended up finally being recognized as an elite all-time heavyweight towards the end of his boxing career.
I largely agree with your comments. I think Lennox being a Brit (non-rabid, somewhat reserved demeanor, well-spoken) didn't help the public perception of him being an ALL-TIME great heavyweight. And as Lennox wasn't flamboyant like Ali, nor did he have that savage-like attitude (the way Tyson was in his prime), so it simply took longer for the public to finally come to the collective "This guy ducks no one, and beats almost everybody, so he's a legit elite heavyweight" revelation. But, yeah, I do think him being a Brit didn't help the perception of HOW skilled/tough he actually was in the ring. That said, aside from Ali and Tyson in his prime, I don't know that there's been a better heavyweight over time than Lewis.
The greatest ever. It amazes me how everyone forgets he had every tool in the box. He just never shot his mouth off, which probably lost him points in the popularity contests.
He fought them all and he beat them all. Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, Golota, Klitschko, and the rest of his era. A living legend. Highly underappreciated and overlooked.
Possibly one of the three most talented heavyweights of all time. Untouchable when he turned up. The cream of a great generation of boxers most of the rest of the time. Occasionally went through a match seemingly half asleep.
Lenox made a huge impact in the Heavyweight division and fought everyone in his era very intelligent guy in the ring and out very skilled with quick combinations for a large heavyweight Definitely in the Top 3 heavyweights

The perfect boxing physique. Natural strength, long reach, great movement and cast iron chin. Nice loose and fluid movement and a devastating left hook righthand combo. The more you look back at Lewis the more you realise how great he was. He was probably the best finisher too.
And a bright mind too. He is strategic, or if we were to give his training camp credit, he at the very least absorbs what his coaching staff is asking of him. Very great boxer.

I said this on the original but i'll say it again. These videos are great and a really good education for those of us not lucky enough to have watched the fights when they happened
I think many people in the UK were mind blown to see events such as those put on by the WBO. It was like looking into the future.

And as fast as Lewis was, he was never as fast as Ali. I think the fight would have been much closer then you think. Regardless of won, it would have been a fight worth watching, and would probably have gone down in history as one of the best.
That rematch with Rahman was sweet...K O 😖
Hey let's not get carried away here.
Lennox was indeed a great fighter but as a commentator he sucks.
His propensity for error is embarrassing.
@@robertcuratolo5339 Indeed, best revenge ever
The greatest ever. It amazes me how everyone forgets he had every tool in the box. He just never shot his mouth off, which probably lost him points in the popularity contests.
I LOVE the fact that he was a class act. The only other that ranks nearly as high is seeing trash talkers getting put on their backs.
😍❤💜💙💚💛💯
sadly true
@Mikey moo Facts💯
His Chin was suspect. That's a missing tool
Such a great fighter, fought and outclassed all the big guys in his time. Without dought one of the greatest all time fighters. 👊
Lennox Lewis is the most underrated heavyweight boxer in the modern era.
He fought them all and he beat them all. Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, Golota, Klitschko, and the rest of his era. A living legend. Highly underappreciated and overlooked.
Not overlooked by me, he is Top 3 HW of all times
Hashim Rahman knocked him out in 2001 in South Africa.
he never thought holyfield or tyson in their prime so thats why or klitchsko and the holyfield fight was never lewis win
@@imran15cassim yeah and he repaid the favour in the rematch, he’s beaten Everyman he’s ever fought.
@@zanea9399 He Fought Tyson in 2002, Tyson's Career was practically over, Had he fought him in the Mid 90s, different Ball Game..
Watched this a couple of days ago. Really enjoying these styles of videos.
I was an older teenager during this era. Lewis absolutely was my favorite boxer.
A true legend and West Ham United fan!
Yea, I agree. His IQ was through the roof and it showed in the ring against lesser albeit stronger men.
He’s in my top 5 of all time in chronological order
Jack Johnson
Joe Louis
Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali
Larry Holmes
Lennox Lewis
Besides being one of the best of all time, Lewis is a gentleman.
Proper class act
While watching this video I I wondered when someone would mention a word about his manner..
on tv he’s an absolute cock IRL
He’s also one of the very few Brits who has gone to US to fight before even fighting for the title - that shows his difference in class to most other boxers from our shores
@@anthonyharrison4393 why.
Lennox would clean up in the current heavy weight division 100%
Lewis was one of my favorite boxers. I remember watching his fights with my Dad on the HBO 👴
I did the same with my dad, I miss him ...
Perfect the Tyson clip doesn’t have audio. The one clip that should have audio over everything else lol
Probably was copyrighted doubt it was his fault

Damn this is a great tribute to Lenox. I really enjoyed this. He is most certainly one of the greatest. When he beat Tyson I fell out too. Disbelief. Then, humbled. You are great Lenox.
Smart fighters like Ali, Lennox and Sugar Ray Leonard are very rare and precious
Rahman getting koed was the definition of getting laid out, geez.
Damn true
King of highlight reel clips
what about the first time ? he KO the fool
@@smilsmff got lucky. Like Ruiz did against AJ. Facts.
The Rock was the champ because he put Lewis to sleep first 😴
Absolute STUD! Lucky to have grown up in the 90's! It was an incredible decade for Boxing and Sports in general
The boxing was unbelievable during the 90's, the Heavyweight division had so many contenders it was hard to fit all the fights in each year! Then you had my personal favourite weight division, Super Middle, Eubank/Benn/Collins/Watson/Calzaghe, unbelievable.
I was only young , but I still remember pulling all nighters with a house full of men from the estate when ever a heavyweight fight was on , it was so much better back then ,and not just sport in general,
Life in general was just better ! No mobile phones not internet bombarded with crap 24/7 . Good times
Just the greatest boxer of his time. One of the best ever
Lennox Lewis , the man have no fear , his face is like an ice , cold and calm it is not metter who is on the other side off the ring. The smartest fighter ever and one off the gratest ever .
Greatest youtube channel there ever was. The amount of pure bliss i feel when i find you've uploaded is immense. I'm a coach myself and train kids 5 times a week and this is the channel i keep telling them all about being the absolute peak of boxing content!!
Lennox hiring Emanuel Steward was classic "Keep your friends close, but enemies closer."
He know us American trainers don't play!!!!!
Manny was a fan. They both had big respect for each other.
Steward saw a lot of potential in Lewis and transformed him into a complete fighter.
Bullshit. Lennox was already the best in the world before he hired manny. Let's not forget Lennox lost to Rahman under manny.
@@tonys9796 Yet can't get a real heavyweight champion anymore.
as a younger guy who never got to watch this stuff in the 90s these historical deep dives are extremely interesting
Is that right Vin?

I watched a lot of these fights as they happened. It makes me feel old hearing you call it a “historical deep dive”😩😢
@@Cab0408 haha sorry bro but man I envy that I bet each of these Fights were awesome cultural events that I would've loved to take part of, at least you have that once in a lifetime experience!
Unorthodox stance boxer but definitely 👌 One of The Greatest Boxers 🙌 ever of All Time 💯
His Right Lethal Punches were so Deadly which put'em on sleep 👍
One of the most humble athletes ever 🤙
The most disciplined fighter have ever come across, no trash talking, he talked more with the Men he brought down!
He definitely talked plenty of trash. He called John Ruiz "Johnny Louise", he said he'd have one Klitschko for lunch and the other for dinner, he said of David Tua that it takes "more than a left-hook and a bad haircut" to defeat Lennox Lewis. Those are just some of the insults he hurled at competitors.
That look on Golatas face after the knock down was priceless.
at least he was still awake while his brain was goin around orbit.
Nice to see the dirty dog get finished quick.
Because he just found out what its like to be smashed by a fast 20lb hammer!
Big shout to the foul pole!
@@michael2305 ...oh shut up. He was discombobulated..lol
Love Lennox. Watch his whole career at least once every year on UA-cam. I love seeing the fights he lost, and then seeing the rematch where he always perfectly changes tactics to win. A real world class talent.
He was all class. Inside and outside of the ring. I met him in Miami, in December of 1999. He had two women draped around him. He stopped and we had a nice conversation before he disappeared into the night. Good dude.
You sound gay
Two women? Doesn't sound like a good dude..
Well, as long as everyone's a single consenting adult it's fine.

For me Lewis is the best of his era and one of the best heavyweights of all time.
Strong, smart, and brave.
I agree he was one of the best off all times and that’s why he beat everyone he faced
But he was too too slow in comparison to ALI the goat.
Yeah I think he was best of the 90s. Huge size advantage with skill
Yep, the best of his era. Lewis was very underrated.
His two unexpected losses prevents him from being call the best.. He defeated a shell of what Tyson was and but had two great fight with Evander and Klitschko. Riddick Bow didn't want to fight him
One of the most respected boxers in my book!
The most amazing thing is having real fights every 5-6 months. Now it's more like two years.
All about the money now, not the pride and honour of being the most skillful at your sport, the most athletic, the most mentally prepared.. It used to be about being the ultimate best at your sport... Now chubby losers like fury can win.. Shame
I saw him in person once walking through Gatwick Airport. To say he dwarfed everyone around him is putting it mildly. The man was huge.
For Foreman, Lennox is the GOAT in heavyweight.
Not the chin but in other things I agree. He was one of the best. Best of last generation. I think only Ali could beat him in his prime. And maybe Holmes too. Other than that, this man was almost unbeatable.
I don't think he was natural
Lennox was the Most Disciplined fighter of all time. Noticed how right away when knocking people out he goes straight to the neutral corner? This allows the ref to do a faster count and therefore ultimately winning the fight quicker than normal.
Never thought bout that, maximum efficiency
The ref picks up the count from a timekeeper. Doesn't start his own.
@@peterh1353 He can and should stop the count if the fighter does not go to the corner immediately.
@@jamesmoore1803 they don’t stop the count of the fighter doesn’t go to the corner it almost never happens
I agree with your point but in reality refs start the time as soon as they deem it a knockdown
