Lewis was one of the smartest heavyweights. He knew exactly when it was time to retire. He didn’t hang around just for easy paychecks and didn’t get his brain scrambled like so many others. Definitely under appreciated in his day.

I remember back in that era, I didn't like Lennox Lewis at all, and a lot of American's felt that same way about him. The media did a great job of making him look like a gentleman among savages even though he was actually a warrior despite the perceptions of him being soft. I still don't know how any great fighter can be thought of as being soft, but it happens. The perception of Lennox as a fighter back then was a little bit insane, and unwaranted when I look back on it now. It wasn't until he earned back his WBC belt against Mccall, and beat Holyfield to earn Undisputed status that he started gaining a little bit more respect from the American fanbase. Also, the second fight with Rahman, and the title defense against Vitali Klitschko earned him more respect as well. Lewis still didn't get his full due respect until after he retired. He was similar to Larry Holmes in the sense that many boxing fans didn't fully understand what we were witnessing until it was over, and done. What's funny is that over the last two decades, I came to love Lennox Lewis, and he became one of my favorites of all time after his retirement. I learned a lot more about him after his retirement, and that made me gain unlimited respect for him as a man, and a fighter. We all should have seen the obvious truth in front of our eyes since the beginning of his career, but sometimes you have to prove people wrong to get your due credit in life. That's what guys like Lennox Lewis, Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, and so many others had to do. It's sad, but it's just the way it is sometimes. Not everyone can be loved and celebrated like Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Prince, or Muhammad Ali for just being themselves.
I'm one of those Americans who hated Lewis but this man rose among the killers of the 90's which imo was just as dangerous as the 70's heavyweights. In his last fight, he was pushing 40, war torn but destroyed the face of Vitali Klitschko on two weeks notice. People who cry about why he didn't rematch Vitali probably hated Lewis more than we did lol.

I like Hollyfield but the truth is he could be real dirty at times with the headbutts. He did that shit all the time. He cut Tyson with a headbutt and he cut Lewis with a headbutt in this fight. He was never penalised for it either but I always put that down to how sneaky he was with it. Same old biased commentary that the US is known for. Hollyfield lands a little shot and they go crazy. buenas , q pelea con dos pegadores aunq lennox es mas pegador y tiene peleas x mas nokau , los dos son monstro del boxeo y dos pesos pesados legendarios de eso no hay duda , la pelea ala ves fue de muchos agarros tanto asi q el arbitro tubo q star muy ocupado tratanto de separar , en cierto momentos dela pelea note q lennox aveces se frustraba maginence q tenia aunos delos mejores pesos pesados de la historia cmo lo es holifil , yo creo q si evander uviece estado en su mejor prime osea tiempo hubiera sacado sta pelea mas adelante para mi la uviece ganado xq en su mejores tiempo veia yo q lanzaba muchas conbinaciones mas seguidas y era mas pila y se movia mas- claro ya en sta pelea tenia 37 años jejeje maginence , en cuanto a lennox q grandioso peleador es uff una leyenda tnbm delos pesados de todos los tiempo , note q ese jat de lenoox con su mano izquierda marco la diferencia xq entraba mucho en evander el aprovecho esa mano izquierda x la larga q la tiene jajajaja q bueno es lewis q sabe crecerse en su mayor dificulta uffff, en fin la decision unanime a favor de lenoox la vi correcta , dlb... gente .

The first fight was by far for Lewis and it was very ugly, but this 2nd one, sorry, this was for Holyfield. The best and powerfull punções came from Holyfield....no doubt!
Thing is tyson fanboys love saying tyson was past it when he lost against holyfield then some years later Lewis. When tyson fought holyfield he tyson was the favourite as many thought holyfield was truly past it ! Just out of hospital! 3 wars with big daddy bowe etc etc. And yes holyfield was more past it than tyson and whooped tysons ass.. now few years later he fights Lewis then he fights Lewis again . 24rds and done extremely well seeing as he holyfield was past his best. Lewis matured late and by 30 was in his prime. Now let's imagine the holyfield that fought Bowe fighting that Lewis. Remember now holyfield done well but how would he have done if he was the holyfield that fought Bowe??
