I’d been borrowing a SD3 install from a friend for a while. Saw SSD5.5 was on sale yesterday, so decided to snag it. Glad to find so many tutorials. Especially this one!
Hi, thanks for the kind words! It's the Deluxe Metal Kit 1, but the principles and the techniques can be applied (in the right proportions) to any o the kits ;)
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment! I receive a lot of mixes Superior and even Toontrack, but to me SSD is the best because of its flexibility and the room tone of the samples. It really works for almost everything. Superior and Addictive all have some phasing issues to my ear as well, and the drums often sound a bit thin and lacking substance. Playing with Hertz Drums now as well, let's see if I can get the Raw pack, if it competes :)
@@martinmixing that’s awesome. I definitely hear phasing with the cymbals sometimes. I’m very surprised since it’s not cheap. I think I just missed the hertz sale. I’m subbing to your channel right now.
@@martinmixing awesome! Just one question, what is another equivalent to the fg bomber plugin? I have virtual mix rack but not the subscription so I just have the bare bones.
@@mattelder4269 Hey, nobody knows :) My ears tell me it is some quite heavy compression with some added saturation to it. Try some fast attack slow/medium release VCA compressors and some distortion for that effect. But to be honest, I am blending it in so little that you might as well skip it, the EQ and the normal compressor on that parallel chain do most of the work.
Hi Paul, you have to open a "multi output" instance of the plugin first. Then you have to open the mixer window, and click the super tiny "plus" (+) icon on the bottom of the channel strip on which you have SSD. This will only be possible in the mixer window. Click it as many times as needed, and Logic creates extra auxes for you to use. Then in the mixer window within the SSD plugin, you can select the outputs for each instrument. Let me know if this helps!
Hey man, nice video, i have a question about ssd, i also use addictive Drums 2 and i would like to be able to use the loops from addictive in steven slate, what would it be a good solution so i wont have to rearrange the midis every time, i thought about changing the mapping on steven slate , but thaz would cause chaos on the ssl drum loops ..
@@constantinranis hmmmm so Addictive will work in SSD, but I don’t know if you can change Addictive to work with SSD loops. I only use SSD and I had to convert other formats to SSD in the past and that worked fine, but I don’t know if it works the other way around.
@@constantinranis not sure I understand, you want to use MIDI from Addictive AND SSD together? I never tried that. But seeing how MIDI is an 8bit protocol, I’d assume that once you change the mapping the original SSD loops won’t work. Unless Mr. Steven is that smart that his MIDI loops automatically adjust when you change the mapping

Hi Jeff, thanks, glad to hear it's helpful! Let me know if you'd like to learn more, happy to help you in a private class!
Top stuff Martin!! I use SSD and have the Slate plug ins, this has really inspired me to explore further and work on my mixing skills. Big thanks
Thanks for your video I was hoping it was on building your own custom kit from Steven slate 5.5 instead of just FX plugins Mixing
What kit is this ? This sounds better than any of the kitz iv used in ssd5 .your mixing is so elegant.

@@martinmixing8856 well it's true ! I'd be interested in getting ya to mix a track for me Id deffo chat to ya about too .
thanks for the video..! can you name other songs released using ssd 5 ? really consider buying ..
Greetings, when is the second part coming out? Would love to hear this in a full mix

This is really great. I wasn’t sure about ssd5 because I use superior but this sounds unreal!

This detail was awesome. New sub
Amazing, glad it was helpful! Feel free to comment on what topics you'd like me to cover next ;)
For some strange reason I did everything the same (with the drums and the mixing) but i sounds way oversaturated and overcompressed, why?
Hey Henrik, hard to tell, could be a million reasons. Hit me up through the contact form on my website, I'm happy to have a listen, maybe I can help!
I can't get past setting up what sounds go to what channel in SSD? Do you explain that anywhere?

Any mastering on this track?
Hey, no, just the Console and Tape emulation on the master bus, but no further EQ or compression/Limiting
Welcome back bro! 😀😄
Haha, thanks, good to be back :D
Amazing vid. I've been struggling to get monster drums using SSD5. This will really help! New sub here
Hey i love your mixing videos, i have a question; can i do this snare clipping tip BEFORE eq and compression? thanks! 🙌
Thanks for the comment :) No, always after EQ and compression, since EQ and comp usually add a lot of level to the snare.

Hey, in SSD you can go into the settings and change the MIDI map so it matches Addictive Drums. I did that before, worked perfectly ;)
@@martinmixing thanks for the reply man, and the loops from SSD will still translate correctly even if you alter the map ?

Hey, I know that drums :D Great work!
Thats not even the same drums lol
