"It deserves to be see over and over again." This is really how I feel about this adaptation! It is so good, I watched so many times, I can memorize line by line by line!
This was the definitive film version of P&P. Love it to pieces. My mum and I have to watch it together at least once a year, and have been doing so since I was in primary school.
Here it is April 5, 2015, 20 years since the making of this mini series; I never tire of it. I never tire of reading the books either. I think we can dub this series: Classic
Deborah Wheeler I'm totally with you on that. About the Jane Austen books. Every high school girl, or post high schooler, should have the opportunity to read P and P, Sensibility, Persuasion, and Mansfield Park. Each of these teach so many important lessons on relationships, it's incredible. My daughter and I enjoy reading them together. This version of P and P is the BEST and , in my opinion, can NEVER be surpassed. I don't see how it's possible. :D And I even read it with my 20 year old son before he left for boot camp. He loved it also. Anytime the movies in, he stands and just smiles. He enjoys all the bantering back and forth between Darcy and Lizzy and all the miscommunication. lol
Yep. Sounds like your son is military personnel now. Thank you, his family, and thank him for his service to our country. Yes. I think most men are attracted to a woman who can hold her ground, in banter or conversation.
+Deborah Wheeler same here. i have another series which i consider one of my favorites but i won't be able to watch/read it like pride and prejudice without ever getting tired.
Do you like Persuasion? i love it, though it is so heartbreaking most of the way through. I read The Diary of Captain Wentworth by some modern author and it was so fun to see HIS SUPPOSED viewpoint of Anne. Excellent, though it wasn't written by Jane, herself.
+Suzu M Yes, I do like "Persuasion"; though, I've not read the book. Yet. I do so enjoy reading the book. Sometimes, I like to read the book, watch the movie versions, the read the book again. 😀
The costumes in this adaptation were gorgeous. The attention to detail was outstanding. I've lost count, the time's I've watched this series from when it first aired.
It most definitely *has* stood the test of time. 1995? Wow. I've seen it, no end of times and after some gap, watched it again the other day, all six episodes and it *still* gripped me. So much so, that I'm currently re-reading the novel and loving it just as much as the T.V. series. Of course, it helps to have a picture in your mind as to what the characters might look like!
Ive tried to watch other adaptations, but this one got it perfectly. Its sort of nice to see how much work went into perfecting the world they were presenting. We all love it because they made it so believable. well done.
If the idea of going back in time appeals, try “Lost in Austen”. In this mini series, a modern girl exchanges places with Elizabeth Bennet through wild and crazy plot machinations (willing suspension of disbelief is required here). And then chaos ensues! Great fun. The people who wrote and produced it totally understand the P and P life and appeal. So give it a go. You will enjoy it wholeheartedly.
I remember this so vividly - I think it was a Sunday night playing on the ABC and we all fell in love with it. I would gladly and enthusiastically watch any and all Pride & Prejudice's anyone choose to make, and would most likely enjoy them all, but this wonderful vision of the book does hold such a special place in my heart.
Oh look, it's Charlotte Lucas! That woman has an exquisite beauty. I think she was meant to play a plain girl but she really isn't-- at all. I love their dresses. I wish we dressed that way today. I love all these actors. Love this vid. It's my favourite, yet
@4Freedom4All Must admit, I loved the 2005 film as much as the 1995 TV version. I thought Lucy Scott (Charlotte) would have better cast as Jane - very attractive, and I definitely can't agree with you about Rosamund Pike not being pretty enough: Really!
this is better than the knightley version. It took me time to have the strength to finish this because I thought it wasn't appealing that much but now I think this is the BEST VERSION!
+elle kim i was the opposite. i loved it immediatelly and was so happy i found it and binge watched it :P and then a month or two later i watched it again.

Whenever I see Adrian Lukis in any police drama I immediately know he's going to turn out to be the killer. He always seems to play the villain. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice person in real life.
To me, this vesrios of video "Pride and Prejudice" will always be the most definitive. It even surpasses the "Pride and Prejudice" 1940 version starring Greer Garson and (Sir) Laurence Olivier--he wasn't knighted until 1947--along with a respectable supporting cast.
Very cool, I Really enjoyed this video! It was cool to see some of the actors and how they learned how to dance and what they had to wear...very cool! :)

This version of the book is closest to the book. I have read the book about a dozen times and watches this version about 100 times.. wish you could watch the movie free .
I watch this show on endless repeat I will never get tired of it. No nudity, no violence, no gratuitous sex scenes or the repulsive PC culture that modern television so eagerly portrays.
All of that, and knowing how historically accurate this miniseries is in every detail. I've watched it so many times, and will watch it countless more times with the greatest pleasure.
"They weren't rich"; surely the problem was that they lived beyond their means; instead of saving, their father spent (& allowed Mrs Bennet to spend)..
Hi. According to Jane Austen, Mr Bennet had an annual income of £2,000, which means that the Bennet's were much better off than almost everyone else in the country. For example, in 1820 (seven years after Pride and Prejudice was published) Patrick Brontë, whose daughters Charlotte, Emily and Anne became famous authors, was only earning £170 per annum as the parson at Haworth. Moreover, despite his much lower income, Patrick was middle class and earned more than double the sum of the average man in the street. (Mr Bennet's income is mentioned by Jane in Volume 1, Chapter 7,, whereas the information on Patrick's income comes from Juliet Barker's book, The Brontës).
Yes, partly. In the book the Bennets were landed gentry, meaning they actually owned quite a bit of the surrounding land. The main problem was that mr Bennet thought he would have a son to inherit the (quite valuable) estate, and take care of mrs Bennet and their daughters. Without a son, the estate went to a cousin, mr Collins. This was made worse by mr Bennet neglecting to save so that his daughters could marry well. This idea that the primary objection to Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage is the Bennets being poor is nonsense, it is their family’s general imprudence and impropriety. 2005’s «Grime and Prejudice» only compounded that misunderstanding by making them considerably less well off, to create an easier conflict for modern audiences to grasp than one of manners and prudence.
I do like this film better than the others I have seen, such as the Laurence Olivier one, the Elizabeth Garvie one and the Keira Knightly one. I was wondering on the necklines of the dresses. Which film is more likely to be typical of the period of the film. I have heard that the film with Olivier cast women in the roles who were perhaps a decade too old for the characters, and they tried to minimize the effect by giving them exaggerated bonnets that are probably not authentic. It was said that they assimilated the costumes to Gone with the Wind, which appeared before the Austen film. One can see the difference in comparison to later films that tried to match the ages of actors to the characters and the costumes to the period. But were the necklines higher in the Regency period or about as shown in the various films? Or are they adapted to our contemporary audience tastes?
I used to think that the actor for Wickham was not handsome until I saw his face sporting a modern hairstyle with a light beard and moustache. He looks quite handsome in this video. He should not shave his moustache and cut his hair a bit short because it suits his face.
