Benjamin Whitrow was amazing as Mr Bennet! His 'one liners' were delivered to perfection and his responses to Mrs Bennet's prattling, were so subtle in their sarcasm, they still bring a smile to my face. He deserves far more credit than he was ever given.

Absolutely. When it came out in ‘95, her performance was much slated as over the top and inaccurate. That seems to be forgotten now.

I took a 25 yr break and rewatched it at 38, and was really surprised by how much I suddenly enjoyed the - well, let’s call them the ‘obnoxious’ characters 😂 Particularly Mrs. Bennet. She was phenomenally acted and had me laughing like i never did when i was younger.

My all-time favorite version of P&P. My only criticism was regarding the casting of Matthew Goode as Mr. Wickham. Sorry, but he just wasn't my idea of the devastatingly handsome Wickham. Everyone else was absolutely brilliant though.

Adrian Lukis played Wickham in this adaptation. I kind of get your point though... I think it was perhaps more about his charm, though he is by no means unattractive.

Suzanna Harker was a very strange casting choice for Jane! She is a great actress, but she is also supposed to be the most beautiful of the sisters, but she just wasn’t?! I’m just being honest. Jennifer Ehle was far more beautiful, and it must have annoyed her having all those lines about how she would never be as beautiful as her sister……. It bugged me at the time and it bugs me now

05:05 So disappointing! I thought we were heading towards a Brontean "Viewer, I married him" moment.

Why is Bingley so vulgar and unkind towards Darcy in this interview?

Everybody raves about Firth as Darcy, but he was too old. The first actors to come to my mind for the part would have been Englishman Dominic West or Canadian Yannick Bisson.

I can understand not liking a particular actor in a role (although I personally love Firth as Darcy) but he was hardly too old for the part. Darcy's exact age was never given in the book, but can be estimated at 33-34ish as his sister is 'more than 16 years' his junior and she is 16 by the time Elizabeth meets her in the book. Colin Firth was 34 during filming.

@@charlie81dbz but his age is given in the book. Darcy was 28 and the age gap between Georgiana and him was about 12 years. But agree that he looked young enough for the part :)

He was 35. While I prefer Matthew Mc Fadyen as Darcy, Colin was not too old to play Darcy.
