  • In this video, we'll be discussing the three most proven effective ways to catch steelhead. Steelhead can be elusive and challenging to catch, but with the right techniques, you can increase your chances of success.
    First up, we have float fishing for beads. This technique involves using small, plastic beads that mimic the eggs of spawning fish. By suspending the beads at the same depth as the steelhead, you can entice them to bite. This method is especially effective during the fall and winter months, when steelhead are actively spawning.
    Next, we have float fishing with jigs. This technique involves using a jig, which is a small, weighted hook with a soft plastic body. By attaching the jig to a float and casting it into the water, you can create a natural presentation that imitates a baitfish. This method is effective year-round, but especially during the spring and summer months, when steelhead are more active and feeding more aggressively.
    Finally, we have spinner fishing for steelhead. This technique involves using a spinner, which is a small, metal blade that spins through the water and creates vibration and flash that can attract steelhead. By retrieving the spinner slowly and steadily through the water, you can create an enticing presentation that can trigger a strike. This method is especially effective during the spring and summer months, when steelhead are more aggressive and actively chasing prey.
    Overall, these three methods are proven effective ways to catch steelhead. By mastering these techniques and adjusting them based on the season and conditions, you can increase your chances of landing these elusive fish. So grab your gear, head to the river, and give these techniques a try!

    I love your videos which are a wealth of info for all things PNW fishing.
    I recently moved to the OP from the southeast so the fishing is all new to me. I understand not publicizing exact fishing locations but a river name or even a general area would be awesome. (west side of the peninsula, south sound, etc.)
    Thanks again for the awesome content.

      The 65lb braid 'floats' better and it's more 'visible' being thick and orange, helps with seeing it to mend the line. He doesn't need it that thick to catch steelhead in fast water or for cutting thru water. 50 lb braid is fine too.

    Hey Jordan, quick question for you, what size is that small clear glass bead in between the Size 2 Bead Hook and the larger colored steelhead bead? I'm trying to find a store to purchase them at, but im currently unsure as to what size of bead im looking for and if it has a particular name or if its just a generic small clear glass bead.
    I tried looking up the other videos that you were referencing for a complete "how to" rig up the bead fishing setup, but I havent had any luck finding it on the other videos as well. Also Ive been watching Addicted Fishing videos to learn how to fish for trout and steelhead and thanks to your knowledge and information I caught three nice rainbow trouts on a small size 2 panther martin spinner when I went fishing two days ago. Now I'm hoping to expend my knowledge and skill set and try out bead fishing and worm fishing under a bobber/indicator. I just dropped $300+ in the addicted fishing store on various gear and I'm happy to support the channel. Keep up the awesome work and have a great day!

    So glad to see that fish are still being caught in the Pacific Northwest, my home river and rivers were so dismal this year it’s insane. Not only did Mother Nature not cooperate this year (Year for the Fish) with high water and full reservoirs from early on in the year. But our numbers weee the lowest we have ever seen. Two hatcheries and literally a couple hundred fish. Anyway hope the high water allowed some natives to get way up the tributaries and do their thing. Love the bobber methods with the low clear water, but I still gotta admit, my favorite method is still drifting bait. Love the intimacy of feeling the bottom of the river every cast, and getting those fish to bite. Love the videos always .

    Drift fishing has caught more fish the all those techniques put together it’s sad to see the one technique that makes a steelheader a steelheader not represented

    • @AddictedFishing
      @AddictedFishing  Рік тому +6

      Drift fishing is definitely a killer method to catch steelhead. Highly underrated! I just think in today’s landscape of steelheaders, across all regions of the US, the primary method used would be float fishing. That was our thinking in creation of this video. Float fishing is so versatile and effective in so many different river systems. Drift fishing definitely has its time & place, there is no denying that.

    • @ER-by3ys
      @ER-by3ys Рік тому +2

      100% agree but most of the younger generation has failed to master the technique and rely on floats. Every yr on the river i see old guys outfish young bucks by drift fishing effectively.

    • @michaelsaks3610

      By "drift fishing" are you referring to boondoggling?

    • @jacttackle57
      @jacttackle57 Рік тому

      Boondoggling is drift fishing while walking down the bank in one motion basically side drifting with out a boat I’m 48 years old drift fishing was around before I was born and is still the most effective way to catch fish hands down the reason float fishing is more prevalent today is because it’s easier anyone can do it and doesn’t require you to become a artist also you don’t loose as much gear FYI my first steelhead on a float was on the Wilson river in August of 92 with a clear float and a bradbarry jig black/red

    • @michaelsaks3610
      @michaelsaks3610 Рік тому

      Cause in gravely stretches I know aren't snaggy I love boondoggling, but in new water or water with a lot of structure I absolutely prefer these methods or I end up spending more time re-rigging than fishing

    Start running a bait caster or pin so you don’t have all that extra line on the water and your hook sets will be 10x better

    Love the content always on this channel always, I have learned a lot. But there is no way, having a dog lick a trout that much can be good or healthy for the fish? Is it weird that just seems wrong.

    Ehummmmm 🤯 Did I hear The word's sixty pound line! OH my! You scared of losing a fish?? Or I can't think of anything about that kinda line for a 3-20 pound fish. I got 12 mono in My salmon rod and 10 on My steelhead rod. Jan 1st 2000, I'll never forget that day. I caught a steelhead on 6 lb line it' was over 30 pounds. If you believe it's it true. But I've always gave the fish a 50/50 chance of escape. It's just something I practice.

      Pay more attention. Use a rod with a sensitive tip.
