(other reason being the ridiculous increase on PS+ membership fee just to be able to play online bare minimum.) Even more so to avoid PS5, since PlayStation is releasing games on PC more often now than before, which I preferred playing on PC originally, before I got into PS3 and PS4. You buy the hardware, you do NOT buy access to the network, you rent time on it. Sony will not come in and take your physical device. The device may not be welcome on the network, but you still physically own it. Sony services are not a necessity. The answer to combat Sony is to stop buying their products if they are doing something outlandish. Sony has probably concluded that they'll make more money in additional PS5 sales by taking the console ban approach; it's up to you and everyone else to show them wrong and hit their bottom line. Also, the banned consoles are useful for several reasons from a repair perspective, so not complete e-waste.
The thing that's kinda weird is it has to be something serious even if let's say You were doing glitches talking trash or spamming people they could just throw a acc ban since you can't mod online on ps5 I would assume it's because they are stolen or something very serious
this has been happening for a longtime. the only option i see for sony take action is for people to make law suit or something of significant magnitude. that will force sony to answer. otherwise these ps5 will be only be useful as PARTS DONOR for repairshops.
They are not excessive. If someone is abuser, all it would need to do is open another account and continue doing it. How many accounts can you open on one PS5? I know some games on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita have cross purchase so if you buy it on PS3 or PS4 if there is also a PS Vita version you can play it on your PS Vita as well
This is just the way it is. You abide by the rules or get banned. I would never buy a used console until its 2 generations old or older consoles that do not require online.
Incredibly stupid practice. And a problem with cloud computing in general. Some people have their everything on their google/microsoft/apple accounts and when they get banned from those they're effectively locked out of their entire life. I don't really use cloud services but the whole thing where Android wants a Google account and Windows wants a Microsoft Account (if you don't know how to bypass it) rubs me the wrong way already. So it can even be a problem with things that have alternatives but having a expensive piece of hardware directly tied to it like in Sony's case makes it even more stupid.
Neat meanwhile PC users don't have to pay a yearly fee per machine to just go online for a basic match making service that can ban you and your entire game library you purchased from going online in P2P games that sony has no right to even be interacting with, and we also get are games considerably cheaper to the point we don't need to resell them just by waiting for a steam sale to buy them and steam sales occur often. PC's that can equal PS5 in performance can be made for cheaper then a new PS5 now out of OLD DELL or HP workstations + a 5700 XT or 2070 gpu shoved into one,. So why are you subjecting yourself to using a console and putting up with being treated like dirt?
They don't ban you for fun. Is it so hard to avoid following the rules of conduct? It's their service, their rules. When they ban people, they knowingly give up on potential money those users might spend on their service, so I wouldn't call it greed, but quite the contrary. And there are Free To Play games on PlayStation that you do not need PlayStation plus for.
Well many people are not aware of those old HP workstations + the ability to throw in new GPU. GPUs you mentioned would likely need to be used , just like those workstations. Depending on how old they are , that can mean no warranty. You also give up on simplicity of a console. Now that may not be a big deal for you , but it is to many, many people. And vast majority of people can follow rules of conduct just fine.
Meanwhile PC users pay hundreds of dollars every year to get the latest Intel or RTX, while also dealing with worse DRM measures and a more clunky experience. Just don't break the rules.
Is there somewhere on playstation support to enter a serial number to make sure a console isn't banned before buying it? Like checking the imei on a phone.
Finding simple commentaries like this that aren't seriously over edited are impossible to find nowadays. Loved the video, thank you for keeping it simple! I've gotten into game collecting recently and I do research on what games/consoles will work offline, and I honestly wouldn't mind having one of these PS5's if I didn't already have a PS5. Stop cheating and u dont have to worry about a hardware ban. Anyone can make a account again and no there shouldnt be a fee to get it hardware unbanned because people are will to pay thousands just to feel validated by cheating in a game
Except, after you get banned on enough accounts, they IP ban you, and ban your Email address, preventing you from making new accounts. Also, there absolutely SHOULD be a way to get the hardware unbanned having no way to do so opens up tons of immediate and future problems. Furthermore like you said, people are willing to spend thousands of dollars to cheat, so what makes you think they wont just buy a new console when the one they have gets banned?
I think Sony is fair. Most people that are very unintelligent will most likely break there system way before they get banned. Sure you could say it's a waste. But if people were able to get away with there crimes then they will just make or use another account. Most people will use the accounts as intended. Most people are aware that they will most likely get banned if they are doing something they arnt suposed to with the system. If people could get them unmbanned. Then they just would either keep using, or sell them for more.
Although I see what your saying, I feel like your view is rather shortsighted. For example, theres nothing stopping people from selling the banned systems at full price without telling you that its hardware banned. So what happens, when someone gets scammed into buying an unusable console at full price without any chance of a refund, or any way to make the console usable? Or what happens if they start handing out hardware bans for things like offensive or vulgar language, even when in private party voice chat, which they have admitted to monitoring?(The majority of CoD players, GTA players, Rainbow 6 Siege players, and Fortnite kids consoles would be wiped out overnight). Or what happens when Playstation inevitably accidentally bans someone who hasn't done anything wrong, costing them hundreds of dollars. What about when the consoles start getting older and people's consoles get banned because a replacement part or parts unknowingly came from a console that was banned? Or what about people whos consoles get banned because the person who repaired the console wasn't an "approved" technician? Not everyone lives a block away from a Playstation technical support center. Sonys actions won't just punish rule breakers, it will also wreak havoc on second hand buyers, repair shops, and in the future the Playstation community as a whole. Also, its not the same thing as when some wannabe hacker bricks their console trying to hack it because they don't know what they're doing, thats on them.
@jakehildebrand1824 most people will buy a new console. Those who buy things second hand really have to use there own sense. Someone could buy a broken ps5 at full price and deal with the same consequences. You wouldn't blame Sony for them not making it aware to a second hand buyer. You see at some point, there has to be an extreme punishment to violators. Or they will never be punished. Sure, there could be accidents. But how small the pool of consoles are being permabanned and how many of those would be accidents. Sure Sony could abuse there power. But if they did. People would find out and stop buying there product. I have an xbox. I don't really go in thinking I'm going to have the console repaired a bunch of times. I buy a product and then I'm going to use it until it breaks or it can't play current games. By the time my console malfunctions I'm going to either wait for a next gen console or buy the new one. Alot of your reply was basic on "what if Sony is a horrible company that abuses there power". If people actually thought that they wouldn't buy there product. Sony loses money every time they would permiban an account or console If it wasn't hacked. Because people are buying there games, controllers, buying subscriptions and they are profiting. That is a company's main goal is profit. At some point when a company becomes really big they have to plan for every senerio. A permaban being probably the most extreme. Also second hand consoles are just a gamble anyway. They could go any time. Even if they are repaired. Other parts can die and Sony can't garentee it will last. Sony actually says that there consoles only last a few years even tho there products are known for lasting a very long time. My ps4 is 10 years old and I think it was said that they should only last like 3. Probably most kids end up breaking them by bumping into them or mistreating them. (Spilling liquid on them). But they treat like they were malfunctions because they dont have any other data.
It's about making an example. Sending a message. If you for example abused other people, having the option to pay for unbanning would mean having the option to get a licence to abuse them again effectively making banning pointless. Banning just account would mean that you can just create another account on same console and continue abusing others almost without restrictions. How much accounts can you have per console? 4? 400? Infinite? IF they ban your console, chances are you will learn a lesson if you are one of quite a few people that need many months or even years to afford one . As for Playstation 5 Digital becoming completely useless, well games with an offline component ,you can continue playing just fine. Without any updates I guess, but banned player should have thought about it when it decided to become the abuser. Unless something changed on the so-called PS5 Slim. So yes,I ABSOLUTELY support console banning practices.
The only 'lesson' anyone who's had their console banned will learn is to avoid Sony products like a plague. There's so much wrong with the concept of bricking consoles for the sake of punishment, it's difficult to know where to begin. Firstly the terms of service (& online 'offenses' in chat etc.) are highly subjective. We all know how it works. People can get accused of everything. Secondly the legality of all seems like absolute bullsh*t. It's straight up tyranny by a woke corporation.

I disagree here. You do own it. For the arguement you are making it would have to mean that when they banned you they would send someone round to take away the console. As you said they don't ban people for nothing. I do think there should be a way to get a console unbanned though. To completely block the hardware from ever being able to be used again is wasteful. with this mindset of buying used games and then selling it will result in the developers not making any money so you shouldn't be surprised that the game you liked won't get a sequel. I like to keep my games as a collectible and I do like to jump back to a lot of games.
This is false, there was never more people online and a dramatic increase in game sales, especially indies, people don't care as much about triple a games or even exclusives, but the overall pool of customers on pc has grow very large since covid, double or triple , so this theory about not making money for devs is cute but it's not true in the globality.

Steam has never banned someone from their purchases. Only from forums, so essentially a mute.
Just don't do things that would ban you.
Now hard is that?
@@GameslordXY It might sound easy at first, but false accusations are a thing.
@@Rspsand07 I probably should have used the Epic Game Store as they banned someone for shopping during a sale. Not sure if they implemented a shopping cart yet or not. However, the reason I didn't was because I'm not a fan of Epic and their spoiled brat approach to gaming of paying for exclusivity deals.
If you have a console and only buy digital then you are simply put, an idiot. Buy console games phydically, then you will have the choice where you want to buy your games. Not to mention the many advantages of physical media.
The good old Xbox 360 approach
Gotta love how they always have copied the worst parts of Microsoft
Yeah, I bought a ps5 off a guy on facebook. A year later hardware banned, just completely bricked. My guess he found out he can report it stolen and get a replacement leaving me stuck with a bricked ps5 I paid msrp for (during the launch shortage).
I got suspended for streaming Yakuza Ishin and there was a scene involving a geisha and It got reported as “bullying” yeah I’m not even joking.
Hey, if you hit your PS5 with a sledgehammer you should probably not expect to be able to sell it either. This is just a virtual sledgehammer. Stop breaking your PS5's.
I am keeping my PS5 (for like GTA 6 when that comes out) But I'm so glad I'm doing more PC gaming now
After getting into PS3 and PS4(mates bought me them), soooo glad I never got into PS5.
Thanks for raising this issue I was not aware of and have another reason why I should not buy PS5.
(other reason being the ridiculous increase on PS+ membership fee just to be able to play online bare minimum.)
Even more so to avoid PS5, since PlayStation is releasing games on PC more often now than before, which I preferred playing on PC originally, before I got into PS3 and PS4.
I got an RTX3089ti laptop currently and back on "PC-Land" discovering what I missed during my time with PS3 and PS4 and rediscovering the favourite PC games I just enjoyed.
It came full circle for me these past 14 years on "video" games.
I'm in my early 40s, have a mortgage and small family of my own now!
Which PS3? All Fats and Slims can be easily CFW, overclocked (my Slim has a 50% GPU overclock) and play any PS2 games, even non-BC models
Just played Shaolin Monks and 007 Everything or Nothing an hour ago on my 2501A
this has always been a thing since ps3 but the difference is you can spoof the console id on ps4 and ps3 but cant on the ps5 untill theres a way past the hypervisor btw you can put steam on a ps5 if you put linux on it
@AndrewUder ?
Not having a appeals process or service fee to remove bans is just a bad business practice. Why I stick to PC whenever possible.
You buy the hardware, you do NOT buy access to the network, you rent time on it. Sony will not come in and take your physical device. The device may not be welcome on the network, but you still physically own it. Unbanning it is NOT an option, someone could get someone else to pay the (fine) and then carry on with the poor behaviour. Hardware bans are a thing for a reason, for very problematic people. If you cheap out and get a 2nd hand item...that is a risk you take. Buy first hand, don't cheap out, ez fix.
Sure just let me get the games from any other source other than Sony on my digital PS5. Oh wait...
@@leonardoruse9256 There are many thousands of games, on many a platform. If you want to use Sony Hardware, you must behave on their network. If you buy 2nd hand, as I said before, that is a risk you take, and Sony owes you nothing in that case.
This guys not mistaking, we're pushed to buy systems and they can lock u out of it. You cNt say it dont happen to innocent ppl because I've had notifications complaints were made against me and my online name when there's not been any issue. Further they should not ban systems when they can block party chats. They shouldn't charge u for the system if they are gonna control your system overall.
Yeah, and people like you will be here justifying it when these companies start banning consoles that were bought second hand because that's against the TOS. Shill a little less hard next time.
@@BoomerElectronics OK boomer.
This lady at Target stole 15 PS5 brand new sold them and Target reported to Sony the PS5s were stolen and Sony hardware locked the PS5s so even new Sony can get you.
I guess the PS2 days where you insert a disc and play without restrictions is the better experience. Who could have predicted that?
Banned PS5 receives updates to games.. Dashboard receives updates... You can play all games you purchase on disk story mode and offline only.. Perfect for an Xbox gamer who is only wants to play Sony exclusive titles.. I have one..
Hardware and Console bans always been there. You just learn it new. To that I say, do not do something that'll get your Ps banned lul
Ohhh my God...........Klaus Schwab is seething with glee gaming is literally dying
Someone send this to Louis Rossman.
But really that has existed since the Xbox 360.
Ebay should have these delisted.
The thing that's kinda weird is it has to be something serious even if let's say You were doing glitches talking trash or spamming people they could just throw a acc ban since you can't mod online on ps5 I would assume it's because they are stolen or something very serious
I think it only bans you from online etc not to play games. If that's the thing they're stealing your money
this has been happening for a longtime. the only option i see for sony take action is for people to make law suit or something of significant magnitude. that will force sony to answer.
otherwise these ps5 will be only be useful as PARTS DONOR for repairshops.
Like tictoc you don't need games to survive either. Games are just entertainment 💗 however i agree hardware bans seem excessive
They are not excessive.
If someone is abuser, all it would need to do is open another account and continue doing it.
How many accounts can you open on one PS5?
And how much do you think unbanning licence should cost?
Sony could earn huge money in banning and unbanning people.
Imagine the backlash after people realizing it.
No, banning consoles is the right thing to do👍
@@GameslordXY @GameslordXY sure ban the persons console but when a new person buys it thinking its all good and it turns out to be useless then we have an issue. You say its neccesary but what about the people getting scammed into buying a banned console? Something has to be done about that.
@@GameslordXY tell that to all the people who got scammed into buying a banned console
I thought there’s something new. But that’s just the same online services policy since Xbox 360 age.
Online service policies only lock you out of online services, a hardware ban would essentially be making the console completely inoperable.
Would buying digital games mean that when psp 2 or a playstation handheld comes out, unlike disc games, I can play them games on my handheld without having to purchase it again?
i haven’t heard of sony working on psp 2 unfortunately. i hope they do some day… ik you can do that with steam on your pc and steam deck
I know some games on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita have cross purchase so if you buy it on PS3 or PS4 if there is also a PS Vita version you can play it on your PS Vita as well
I'm worried that Sony might try to ban you for talking about this topic.
yeah...what's even worse is if you have an xbox series S. the console is legit bricked if you get a hardware ban.
This is just the way it is. You abide by the rules or get banned. I would never buy a used console until its 2 generations old or older consoles that do not require online.
Thanks for the advice Sony rep.
Why ubann something if you can drive up console sales
It's their service,their rules.
@@GameslordXY - I hope you get paid by Sony and not sucking them off voluntarily.
?
consoles are extreme E waste for that
Finding simple commentaries like this that aren't seriously over edited are impossible to find nowadays. Loved the video, thank you for keeping it simple!
I've gotten into game collecting recently and I do research on what games/consoles will work offline, and I honestly wouldn't mind having one of these PS5's if I didn't already have a PS5. I don't think banning the console from PSN is quite as bad as straight up banning you from using the console, but I do think it's stupid there's no way at all to unban the console if someone had bought it second hand
Same thing with blu-rays, ebay is awesome
No 1 rule " Be inclusive "
Enough said!
This is why gaming is Dieing
You can unban a console I've seen people do it before but you have to have some serious technical repair know-how to be able to do it
Do you mean emulating another PSID or actually unban?
Thats a software ban, not a hardware ban.
@@jakehildebrand1824 No I'm talking about a hardware ban they basically fry certain parts of the system to make sure you can't connect the system to their network anymore so those parts need replacing and once you do you are free to connect again as if nothing happened it's an extremely difficult repair but it can be done
@@AzaiaMonota2 thats assuming the parts aren't paired to the console like the parts of an apple phone are.
Hopefully in a decade hackers will have gotten like, kernel level access and are able to make these consoles fucntion again via jailbreak. But that's if PS5 securty can be cracked. Until then, this is just pure e-waste. This is fucked
Can you still play single player games???
Considering its a hardware ban, Im guessing the console gets completely bricked.
This isn't a new thing. They've been hardware banning since ps3.
This would not be an issue if you could install Linux and run steam

It was never ur hardware it was bannable from PS3 to PS5 Gen…

why would you buy a game if you plan to sell it? mine as well rent it.
it’s cheaper/you can make money, if you do it the right way
This is why i dont fuck with the tos. But still this is wack indeed
A scary video with a wonderful soundtrack: Starhawk
that game deserves a remaster or a sequel
@@Snowy3011 It won't happen, that game wasn't appreciated enough. Warhawk came out 5 years earlier and its servers lasted longer than Starhawk's.
you dont own any modern console regardless plus people who dont read tos or coc cant really say anything and then sell off after they break it for quick cash. 360 consoles are still banned from mw2 mw3 era forever. it is sad people con others after breaking tos or coc making the user market more scary overall
Remember:
If you didn't own the game after buying it.
Then you didn't steal the game after pirating.
Ever had all ya gear stolen?
me when my ps3 is still IDS banned *you foools*
this is a dumb conversation you have no valid points
@@cartermoth6447 - I've never even been banned but I refuse to buy a PS5 for this very reason. I disagree here. You do own it. For the arguement you are making it would have to mean that when they banned you they would send someone round to take away the console. As you said they don't ban people for nothing. I do think there should be a way to get a console unbanned though. To completely block the hardware from ever being able to be used again is wasteful. They probably see it as an opportunity to sell more consoles though.

with this mindset of buying used games and then selling it will result in the developers not making any money so you shouldn't be surprised that the game you liked won't get a sequel.
