Butch probably charged so high so he wouldn't be overwhelmed with request. If he charged a dollar he wouldn't get any sleep. Also one guy doing everything is more than reasonable.
@@icecreamhero2375 You know what the solution to having too many requests is? The artist only takes so many requests at any given time, say 10-20 slots. If slots are closed, then no commissions.

@@FelicianoCookie well the art pricess are not a direct reference of good quality, there are many things taken in count when giving a prices (like the place they live and the minimum wage (is not the same being an artist living in NY that being an artist living in Latin america), the tools used, the rights given to the client (personal or commercial use), and a extra value as the artist (this can be very subjective, but is mainly the extra cost of the work given because you are the one making it, charge more based of your experience, knowledge, popularity or reputation, etc). Basically it's not the same asking a commission to a begginer artist than to a favorite, popular and already experienced one... even when the request and artworks are basically the same.
Now, I'm not defending butch, given the things he has made it's more like he is trying to dig as much money he can from all of this (and abusing his own popularity) than actually making a good job.

He had a whole team helping him with his shows he didn't do them alone. Which is why a lot of people don't see it as worth it. But its also because of the recent things he's been doing over the years. He's an asshole.

It's pretty interesting how Butch designed Sonic specifically as the SatAM version, you'd actually have to go out of your way to look that up as most generic search results are either the new movie design or the modern design. Yet he still drew Sonic with blue arms...
So either Butch is an actual Sonic fan to a certain extent but forgot the arms aren't blue or he used the movie sonic design and through some magical boomer power he managed to specifically draw Sonic how all the old cartoonists used to draw Sonic.

As someone who used to idolize Hartman and has since come to her senses-this is so good. SO GOOD. Even when I was a kid, watching the "inside the Nicktoons Studio" clips, I was so confused as to why many of my fanartist friends could draw the characters better than him, lmao. And let's not forget his beautiful portrait of Jesus Christ he painted a few years ago~

i don't understand the complaints. he probably doesn't rely on commissions as a living. $100+ is simply the amount that's just worth the work. otherwise, he'd be flooded with commissions; lowering the price would greatly increase the demand.

@@ascnd You seem to be underestimating just how much the demand would grow. Plus, I suppose he's not willing to become a guy who lives off drawing other people's creations. Basically it's kind of a filter so that he only works for people who will help him stay relevant.
@@ascnd Time really doesn't matter if the end result is good. If anything, him spending a small amount of time and making a good drawing is a proof that he is a competent artist when he wants to be.
I think people are sucking his dick too much. People charge $100 for a full digital painting with background,lighting and shadows. Butch is literally charging this much because he is a famous artist and he’s acting like it’s an honor that he would stop everything to drawing something for you. $200 for a quick drawing of your character and colored (which is probably flat colored and maybe shaded) AND SHIPPING is too over priced. And this is coming from an artist who does commissions.
I feel like people are too afraid to say that butch is an honest asshole because he created our childhood tv show.

That drawing at the end was actually higher quality than the three more recent drawings that's gotten him into more controversy lately, including one of his own characters!
Still not worth $200, but come on!
From an artist's perspective:
1. Traditional art is usually priced higher than digital art
2. Original drawings are always priced higher. Prints are usually cheaper.
3. Butch Hartman has a big name recognition and he is milking it. He is the creator of properties (fairly odd parents, Danny phantom, etc) and the value of the artwork from someone with fame is expected to gain more value over time because it is original. I'm not the biggest fan of him because I think he has a big ego, but I think his pricing is kind of reasonable because of the factors. Do I think he's the best artist ever? No. But I think the artwork will gain value over time.
Take a look at "Cameo" and what famous people are charging for a short video. I think that's pretty crazy lol. But they make their money from their names and faces.

He's still an artist with his own style but that price is his name not the art itself he still does art very well despite what it cost
That's the only thing i like about him now, some of his art is still pretty decent and that commission drawing was very cute. However, that doesn't make up for the other stupid things he's said and done. Especially the ''curing'' autism thing, i have zero respect for someone who treats it like a disease.. And as someone who's part of the spectrum, i don't take kindly to that sort of mindset.

I'm a little torn because I can't stand Butch Hartman and I don't wanna defend him and I would never give 200 dollars for a drawing from him but.... I know plenty of artists I would pay 200 dollars for a commission. True, the commission wouldn't look like that. But still.
I feel like people underestimate the effort artists can put into their work. And the worth of that time and effort. And the value of the training that went behind it.
That being said, Butch is still an ass and clearly full of himself, and I wouldn't even pay 2 dollars for a drawing made by him. But hey.... that's me.

but if an artist who has gained experience and even some recognition, and is told by fans they have no right to raise their prices accordingly based on demand, I would consider that devalution of artists' work, which is already done all the time
