Due to Butch's recent actions I'm really not liking Danny Phantom being attributed to him, considering it's my favorite show of that era and he's not a great person. Plus, he always makes it sound like he's solely responsible for it, but really it's his writers and producers that made the show what it is. It's their show more than it is his. That's why if they ever bring it back they need to have the original writers and producers onboard to make sure it's as good as it was if not better.
Butch didn't even do these character designs by himself but he takes all the credit. That's why when he draws these characters they don't look right !! The actual designer for Danny phantom and fairly OddParents.. has a UA-cam channel too but does he get a lot of views probably not.
@@MusicLoveDD He's uploaded a video 5 hours ago. Also sucks Butch takes so much credit for others works when he touts about how you can't judge unless your on his level.
Fun Fact: Bunsen is a Beast was supposed to be a Children's book Butch was writing until a Nick executive caught wind of it and told Butch to pitch it as a TV show. I hope that person was fired.
Ironically, “Butch’s artstyle” in Fairy Odd and Danny Phantom that he’s famous for is actually Stephen Silver’s artstyle, but he took all of the credit. I know, it blew my mind too when I found out, but it always confused me when his pilot drawings and commission work looked so different than his TV cartoons. Welp, now I know why
I feel like Stephens art from Kim Possible (whom was named Kim Whomever in the polish dub, fun fact) has softer lines then the Danny Phantom one bit I can definitely see the resemblance.
I really liked TUFF Puppy as a kid, so I wondered why people didn’t like it. But than I realized, unlike about 90% of the cartoons I watched, I didn’t remember anything about the show. I didn’t remember any of the characters, their names, their voices, or storylines.
I think mainly it had to do with the fact that all the characters were anthropomorphic when they didn't need to be. The show is basically criticized for being furry bait.
Yea I loved it when I was little, I don’t even remember the shows name until now and the characters names, I only remember the dog saying Aaaaa...Toilet Water
There was a cat a dog the dogs mom and a villain who tried to get people to eat bugs and that's all I remember oh and the dog was voiced by Jerry Trainor (aka Spencer from iCarly)
So, like, I feel it's important to note that Butch wasn't even the main character designer on Fairly OddParents nor Danny Phantom, it was Stephen Silver. They have vaguely similar styles, but both Danny Phantom AND Fairly OddParents are both heavily inspired by Silver's style rather than Butch's. Also of note, Butch is a fucking terrible character designer, which is probably why he wasn't a lead designer on either show.
Butch is also a terrible writer, most of the episodes he helped write were some of the lowest in both series. He's an ideas guy, not good at executing.
I love that right after he says about how not all if butch's shows were about young boys who come into contact with magical powers, I get an ad and it start by saying, " welcome to magic school"
I'm not defending butch but he doesn't come off as jealous to me in that video Nickelodeon does have a reputation for cancelling or moving shows off their main channel if their not immediately successful that's what happened with Harvey Beaks, Robot & Monster & Legend Of Korra.
@@PeterGriffin11 Harvey beaks really got it raw. A raw deal I mean. Of those three examples that is by far the worst. A good show that deserved better than being dumped onto nicktoons to slowly die in obscurity.
It's funny you say that because Wow wow wubzy's creator (Bob Boyle) worked on fairly oddparents before he started making his own cartoons. The other being Yin yang yo if you remember that.
Let it be known that another artist, Stephen Silver, was the one who designed the characters of Danny Phantom. He also did work on Kim Possible and other shows.
I don't think we should dog on his art. That's not the real issue with Butch, and if that style makes him happy to draw in he should totally keep doing it. + I think its mostly because he has done a lot of work on his cartoons in storyboards, so he draws quite fast and without polish. He should not have the credit for Stephen Silver's style though.
i was watching up till the part where he said "how about we get started with--" and then an ad came on shouting "DISNEY. CHANNEL'S. BIGGEST. NIGHT. OF MUSIC." and i was thrown off thinking it was part of the video
Hartman is like a kid that once told a good joke that made everybody in the classroom laugh. He liked that feeling and wanted more, but knew that telling the same joke all over again would fail, so he made some variations of that same first joke, ones more successful than the others, until, after many failures he just resigned and started to just tell the first joke all over again
I checked the hobbykids show, and for some reason they removed all the references to Carl’s Jr. in that one episode and replaced it with a fictional restaurant called “Cosmo Burger”
Their promotional deal was most likely expired by then, and rather than scrap the entire episode or try to negotiate another sponsorship, they just redubbed and re-edited it. It's surprisingly common in shows and movies for audio or visuals to be re-done after a promotional deal is over to avoid any legal headaches, like how a lot of streaming versions of classic MTV shows remove the licensed music and replace it with royalty-free soundalikes, or how home video and TV broadcast versions of Wayne's World redub the "No Stairway" scene to replace the Led Zeppelin song he plays with a generic guitar riff.
HONESTLY Tuff puppy wasn’t that bad. I thought the humor was pretty good despite it being very gag based. But yeah I remember viewing it as “junk food television”
As many times as Butch has gone off too much at the mouth, his jab at Spongebob being the defining factor of whether a show lives or dies was probably the most polite take I've seen on that subject.
I feel like it should be mentioned that the art style in every one of Bitch Hartmans shows aren’t even his style. It’s Stephen Silvers style, who worked with butch as the character designer. It sucks that butch gets the praise for such a beautiful art style when it’s not even his
Beautiful is stretching it a little don't you think? Sure it's easy on the eyes and somewhat pleasant to look at but it's not that great. It's good for a kid's cartoon but that's about it.
Blame Walt Disney for setting this precedent. He was a businessman, not an artist, and couldn’t even draw Mickey Mouse at signings without help from his artists. But because he was the boss and Ub Iwerks, Milt Kahl, or any of the Nine Old Men at Disney were more artist-types than savvy businessmen, he continues to get almost sole credit for building the Walt Disney Company and the American animation industry in general throughout the 20th Century. Butch Hartman sounds about the same-terrible artist, but fantastic at advertising himself as a good artist.
I know T.U.F.F Puppy didn’t do as well as The Fairly OddParents or Danny Phantom but I wouldn’t call it a failed show especially since it even lasted longer then Danny Phantom
I mean, there are different ways to measure success. TUFF Puppy had episodes and was commercially successful, but it has 0 cultural impact or identity. There’s a reason people still go back to watch, talk about, and enjoy FOP and DP, not TUFF Puppy It’s not the worst show in the world, it’s just forgettable; and in a sea of forgettable kid’s cartoons, being bland is arguably worse than being terrible.
Look at Google users and the like percentage of Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, Tuff Puppy, and Bunsen is a Beast. Bunsen is a Beast is ranked worst than Tuff Puppy.
@@estebangutierrez160 not to defend bunsen is a beast…but FOP aired 172 episodes over 10 seasons across 15 years, while bunsen aired 26 episodes across a single season between 2017 and 2018. so it’s not exactly a fair comparison.

Yeah, it was a decent Birthday gift too (Since it actually first aired it's debut on my Birthday, October 2nd along with Planet Sheen). I mean mostly for me it's because Jerry T., who doesn't miss Spencer/Crazy Steve XD
It did not age well. I remembered liking it when it first aired, but I tried rewatching it on Hulu a few years ago, and it was painful to watch. A lot of the voice acting was loud and annoying, and the conflicts and jokes were so forced and repetitive. I only watched the first season and a half, until I got so bored of it, that I quit.
I thought it was pretty decent. It was alright for what it was. Some of the humor I thought was decent too, like the Chameleon when he'd pronounce his name wrong or the fact he need a suit to become invisible.
I mean we were kids, we just wanted a quick laugh and not much else. Shows like Avatar and Teen Titans is like the very nice restaurant food, carefully crafted and just a great experience. Tuff Puppy was just junk food, not really good for you, but it did the job.
When it comes to his artwork "deteriorating," I could be wrong, but I think you're confusing Butch's actual art with the art produced by his hired animation team. Cause Butch wouldn't have actually produced any of the final art that was a part of any of his series, nor their promotional artwork. And this is usually true for every cartoon creator. Their own art typically does not directly translate to the final product. I say this also because I believe the reason his shows' style was so solidified and aesthetic is because of character designer, Stephen Silver, who was responsible for creating the much more clean shape language and style guides for Fairly Odd Parents, and Danny Phantom, compared to the Odd Parents pilot. Butch would have done sketches of characters and storyboards here and there throughout every pre-production phase, but the style of his shows were smoothed out and solidified by Silver's skill as a designer.
I was gonna say, Butch only does so much but he's not responsible for the actual animation and consistencies. You can see with his later stuff what actually is and isn't his. Even when doing a different style you can typically see hints of a person's regular style. Also that one point does scare me as an artist/aspiring animator because you usually improve and have a defined style, not have it deteriorate (although it's different for everyone, because even your style changes at some point).
@@Estellars some people do kind of deteriorate though :") While yes, you do improve and refine your work over time, I believe every artist is going to have that kind of phase where their more recent art seems lesser in quality than their older works if that makes any sense? :0 If not a decrease in quality it's a drastic style change :^)
I know this video is about Butch (giant douchebag), but I want to take a moment to talk about a man who really had a fluke and totally deserved it: Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob. The guy really had a passion for animation and also for marine life, based on that he created SpongeBob, and he never bragged about anything, he was always very low-key and also very humble (not everyone makes the best cartoon of a whole channel). The most important thing is that the guy had a very clean reputation, he did everything possible so that his creation was not manipulated (avoiding spin-offs, avoiding marketing in fast food chains, he even wanted to end the series at the moment he believed was enough). And to think that that horrible channel that is now Nickelodeon pitched his idea just because another pitch had been dropped at the last minute, incredible. The truth is that I comment this because I feel that there are not many videos talking about Stephen as a person and creator, I see more videos talking about how moron Butch is or how sick John K was, I would like to see more content about Stephen as an author in the future (that go beyond talking about his passing), the man really deserves it.
A little bit more about the show, Stephen didn't want the show to have the Simpsons effect where they don't bother with a good story just to throw in a famous celebrity and they only sought out people perfect for the characters they designed. The only time Stephen made an exception personally was Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway because he was such a big fan of McHale's Navy, and even then I'd argue if fit with the shows theme.
That's true. Stephen was very humble and had a clean slate as a Nick animation veteran compared to Butch, John K. and Chris Savino. Joe Murray and Craig Bartlett are still very cool and humble former veterans too! Edit: Klasky-Csupo, Jhonen Vasquez, and ATLA creators should get a special mention here too!
Damn bro, you're first few lines were really deceptive. "who had a fluke and totally deserved it," makes it sound like he fucked up and deserved the whiplash, it really worried me lmao.
Thank you to all commenters on who was actually behind the style of Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom. Now I can enjoy them even more, knowing Butch Hartman was not responsible for their beauty.
He was almost completely hands off for DP until later on when the series was really popular and he wrote some of the episodes that are widely despised by the fandom. Not to mention how much of a control freak he was at that time constantly making attacks on the DP fan community.
@@themysteriousmista4922 he was pretty hands off for seasons 1 + 2 but became involved in season 3. One of the first things he did was rewrite Vlad's ENTIRE motivation from "Jack's stupidity ruined my chances with Maddie, so I will kill him/ Danny, you became half ghost from your father's folly too, so join me!" to "haha i will take over the world because reasons". Also he changed the lore. Ghosts went from being the souls of dead people (like Poindexter and Desiree) to just random monsters from another dimension. Danny Phantom had SUCH a big influence on me, but every time I think about Danny Phantom now I’m just sad at the wasted potential and poor character development of Sam and Tucker. There were so many overarching plots and interesting characters to develop, and the art style was so good, but ultimately it felt wasted.
They got character development, but the series kept backtracking on it. Like there are multiple episodes about Tucker being jealous of Danny, and Danny and Sam grow closer in the first half, only to become distant for a while after the ember episode, then the show demonstrates Danny is over Valorie and a few things happen between them before Phantom planet. I can't tell if they purposefully backtracked to portray flip flopping teen emotions, or if they just had ideas and threw it to the wind. Danny defo has noticeable development in his fighting skill and quips, as do Sam and Tucker who get braver and braver towards the end. As far as personal life/emotional development, Danny and Jazz got a lot, but Sam and Tucker did fall to the wayside. I wouldn't say it felt wasted to me, but I want more. I understand how you feel though, soul eater did that to me bad.
@@auroralane8523 I feel that too. Sam and Tucker had moments of maturity, but it didn't stick. By the end of the series Sam and Tucker sort of felt like the same people they always were. Only Danny, Jazz, and Valerie got any real maturation in the show.

I'm starting to think Butch Hartman is the Adam Sandler of animation. An egotistical man that created a few good shows/movies but nowadays just pumps out more garbage than the LA River, surrounding himself by "Yes" men and sycophantic fans that only results in them not improving from mistakes but thinking they're the greatest entertainer in media.
I'd argue on the cover sure, but Adam Sandler is actually quite nice outside of the camera and has admitted that most his work nowadays is just an excuse to take vacations and hang with his friends.
I don't know. When Family Guy still exists i still think that show feels like fits that category more. I mean Tuff Puppy is seen as bad for some but then again that show has a bigger following than Bunson or any of his other cartoons he did in the 2010s.

14:12 I’ll never understand why advertisers are so happy to plug their product on shows and channels made for literal babies but god forbid they put ads on a channel that says curse words that adults are most likely watching
Because kids have a surprising amount of sway when it comes to their parents' purchasing decisions and have difficulty recognizing when they're being advertised to, which is why there's so many legal restrictions on how you're allowed to advertise to children. An adult will know that Carl's Jr. is overpriced slop and incredibly unhealthy, but kids don't understand/care, which makes it easier for Carl's Jr. to convince them to nag their parents to take them there.
I used to love Tuff Puppy lmao , but I’m happy that Danny Phantom ended before it became like Fairly odd parents , running for so long that too many new characters came and went . Makes you ask questions like who the heck is Chloe?, where’s the weird dog ?, why didn’t it end on the episode which revealed Timmy made everyone stay in the same year for 50 years? and so on
The arrogance of Butch seems to have no bounds. His pitches are simple and cliche, his own artwork is mediocre. Collaboration is the only reason he was able to make a couple of decent shows - the character designs, animation, writing and so on, were either honed or completely done by other, talented individuals. I'm not saying he has no talent, but as a showrunner, he's more of a businessman that keeps the whole thing running. Yet he still goes aroynd claiming he single-handedly created other people's childhoods (not mine, never watched them), and like he's such an accomplished artist that you can't even compare yourself to him until you've done the same. Except I know so, so many other artists, writers, animators and so on, who are much more talented and him, and often HAVE accomplished a great deal more than him, but just never got into the privileged position of putting your name above a show's title. Also, as someone with Asperger's, his comments about autism _disgust_ me.
Both FoP and DP lost a sizable amount of viewership after the original teams started to leave, so it's safe to say Butch wasn't the core of those shows even if he was the show runner
you cannot just give FOP and DP an 8. Those shows actually shaped young minds and inspired so many. They are also really watchable for kids and adults, two of the greatest cartoons of all time. Just because Butch's name is on it does not discount the incredible work of all of the other staff at Nick.
*Peter Parker:* _I’m Peter by the way._ *Butch Hartman:* _I’m the guy that created your childhood._ *Peter Parker:* _Oh, we’re using our made-up names. Then I am Spider-Man._
It makes sense considering Bob Boyle! (a art director on Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom) created that show! He left his role on FOP & DP to do it! This might just be Butch's revenge
I loved Tuff puppy too, but they were still rerunning Danny phantom when I was a kid and my family defo ended up watching that more. I will admit I forgot about Tuff puppy as well, but I never enjoyed toilet bowl humor, just tolerated, and Tuff puppy has a lot more than DP. So I prob won't revisit Tuff, but I'll admit proudly I have the same ringtone as Tucker Foley, and I just finished rewatching the series for like the billionth time.

@@JadeEyes1 to be fair that sums up butch Hartman's aka something wonderful being destroyed by something well known and thout to be harmless until too late
It’s not that Butch has gotten worse, it’s that we’re now getting more concentrated Butch. FOP and DP were shoes he created, yes, but he wasn’t actually the primary lead; the designs and art styles were lead by Stephen Silver, for example. (You can see Silver’s influence more clearly when comparing Danny phantom to Kim possible-another show he was the lead designer for.) Butch Hartman, in this way, is similar to Hideo Kojima. A lot of Kojima’s early work was controlled and cut down, because people didn’t have the trust to let Kojima….fully be Kojima. But now that he’s made a name for himself, he has much more creative control. Death stranding is as weird as it is because of Kojima. The difference between Kojima and Butch, however, is that Kojima is a bizarre creative genius who has enough skill and imagination to successfully have creative freedom. Butch’s shows were successful BECAUSE he didn’t have as much freedom and other people had influence. The more creative freedom Butch has, the worse his projects get. Because he’s the problem. The fact that everything he does is so samey, trope-oriented, and derivative just shows how Butch wasn’t the mastermind behind his own successes. It makes going back to shows like FOP and DP really interesting….because you can point to a lot of their issues and connect them back to Butch himself. Fun fact: the storyboard artists on DP would intentionally draw beyond/above butch’s skill level for certain scenes so he couldn’t change their work or ruin their jokes lmao
When you realise fairly odd parents is the only longest running show butch has that compared to SpongeBob but everything else didn't live up to it other than Danny phantom but even tuff puppy lasted longer
8:24 is so funny cause I only watched Fairly OddParents because it was on before Spongebob, which I'm sure wasn't a unique experience, Spongebob gave him views
I remember watching Tuff Puppy when I was in middle school. It had potential. Tuff Puppy was no Fairly Odd Parents or Danny Phantom, but it had potential.
I never noticed as a kid, but all the Hartman cartoons have SO many sound effects. Like, practically for every single thing a character says or does. Never realized it as a kid, but as an adult, they stick out so much that you cant ignore it.
It's a technique called "Mickey Mousing". It originated in the early Disney and Warner Bros. cartoons, where the soundtracks to each cartoon were composed to match every action that the characters do, which was a novelty at the time due to sound in film and especially animation being a new thing. It's mostly fallen out of favor as animation has progressed in favor of a more cinematic style of soundtrack and sound effect composition, where music and sound effects are used as needed rather than used to punctuate every movement and pose. Ed Edd n' Eddy is another show that makes extensive use of Mickey Mousing as an intentional throwback to that early style of animation, but it's WAY less annoying due to the staff using a wide variety of stock sound effects in unique and unconventional ways, while Butch's shows tend to use the same kind of stock music stings for everything.

Let it be known that another artist, Stephen Silver, was the one who designed the characters of Danny Phantom. He also did work on Kim Possible and other shows.
His art can be described in one qoute, "Its evolving. Just backwards."
Great comment
Stephen Silver drew most of the good art, not Butch himself.
So it's clicking but clicking down
I don't think we should dog on his art. That's not the real issue with Butch, and if that style makes him happy to draw in he should totally keep doing it. + I think its mostly because he has done a lot of work on his cartoons in storyboards, so he draws quite fast and without polish.
He should not have the credit for Stephen Silver's style though.

Silver has a great UA-cam channel with super dope art tips, I'd recommend checking it out!
Also Ben Balisteri!
his art is meta
I was gonna say, Butch only does so much but he's not responsible for the actual animation and consistencies. You can see with his later stuff what actually is and isn't his. Even when doing a different style you can typically see hints of a person's regular style.
Also that one point does scare me as an artist/aspiring animator because you usually improve and have a defined style, not have it deteriorate (although it's different for everyone, because even your style changes at some point).
@@Estellars some people do kind of deteriorate though :")
While yes, you do improve and refine your work over time, I believe every artist is going to have that kind of phase where their more recent art seems lesser in quality than their older works if that makes any sense? :0
If not a decrease in quality it's a drastic style change :^)
We did not deserve Stephen Hillenberg to touch our lives.
Thank you for saying this! Stephan was ( and still is ) my hero! And I think he deserves more!

Except I know so, so many other artists, writers, animators and so on, who are much more talented and him, and often HAVE accomplished a great deal more than him, but just never got into the privileged position of putting your name above a show's title.

you cannot just give FOP and DP an 8. Those shows actually shaped young minds and inspired so many. They are also really watchable for kids and adults, two of the greatest cartoons of all time. Just because Butch's name is on it does not discount the incredible work of all of the other staff at Nick.
I’d say danny phantom was better since it never suffered from seasonal rot

It's Funny, bc they're alot of other 2010 Shows that were better choices to bond with your Family, better choices T.U.F.F. PUPPY tbh
Finally I'm not the only who watched that show as kid
I loved Tuff puppy too, but they were still rerunning Danny phantom when I was a kid and my family defo ended up watching that more. I will admit I forgot about Tuff puppy as well, but I never enjoyed toilet bowl humor, just tolerated, and Tuff puppy has a lot more than DP. So I prob won't revisit Tuff, but I'll admit proudly I have the same ringtone as Tucker Foley, and I just finished rewatching the series for like the billionth time.

It’s not that Butch has gotten worse, it’s that we’re now getting more concentrated Butch. FOP and DP were shoes he created, yes, but he wasn’t actually the primary lead; the designs and art styles were lead by Stephen Silver, for example.
(You can see Silver’s influence more clearly when comparing Danny phantom to Kim possible-another show he was the lead designer for.)
Butch Hartman, in this way, is similar to Hideo Kojima.
Butch left Nickelodeon to collaborate with Carl’s Jr. in a kids show and make a crappy Christian show.
Let that sink in.
Seems like his brain cells dropped down in numbers
Jacob Funk By a whole lot apparently.

Good. FOP was going downhill anyway and SpongeBob and The Loud House were already overshadowing it in popularity.
