  • Watch as Annie Sloan paints her garden fence gate in Oxford with Chalk Paint® in Olive. Chalk Paint® is versatile furniture paint invented by Annie in 1990 and can be applied to most surfaces without the need for priming or sanding.
    Be sure to remove old peeling paint or rust, dust and cobwebs. Then pop open your Chalk Paint® tin and get stuck straight into the fun part. When painting outside finish your paintwork with Chalk Paint® Lacquer.
    Chalk Paint® Lacquer is your garden furnitures' best defence against UV rays, fading paint colour, and peeling paint caused by water damage. Garden furniture - anything which will be touched a lot, sat on, or has a horizontal surface which will collect water or fade in bright sunlight needs to be protected with Chalk Paint® Lacquer to ensure paint won’t transfer, peel or fade. Vertical surfaces, such as shed walls, fencing, and brickwork, are much less prone to the key causes of outdoor damage (UV rays and standing water) and so do not need to be lacquered (although doing so will ensure longevity). Annie's fence, although a vertical surface, has horizontal ledges which will be prone to water pooling, so she will be finishing with Chalk Paint® Lacquer to protect it for years to come.

    Stunning! I painted my outdoor wood set 6 summers ago, before you had the lacquer and I am just touching it up this year (no sanding needed of course) and I will use the lacquer this time. Honestly your paint is so incredible if I had used anything else I would have been sanding and repainting in 2 years, if I was lucky! Primer red with a little feather of graphite running through it btw, fabulous😎

    Hi Annie, I have never Chalk painted anything, but 3 years ago I received a toy box my father-in-law made for my husband and his brother and they are now 69 and 66 years old, so this toy box is about 60 years old, but in very good shape. I have decided to use your chalk paint in the color olive after watching this video. I’m so excited to start this project. Thank you for all of your tips. I’m afraid I will enjoy it so much I will want to paint everything.

    I think it would be fun to color block the gate since it already has the angles and divisions made by the boards. I think for a beginner like me I could possibly attempt something like that. Unfortunately I don't have a wooden fence.

      What a fun idea! You just need to find a friend with a wooden fence. :-)

    Hi! Can we use the (Amsterdam Green) chalk paint for cottage walls (interior and exterior)? I am thinking to use it for a home library and I really like the dark green/golden leaf combo. I love the Olive as well and the Carnaby Yellow. What about painting upvc doors? Could I do that with the Carnaby Yellow wall paint?Which of the paints is best for that? I'm a bit confused between the satin, wall and chalk option. Thank you for sharing!🤗
    PS: I used olive chalk paint years ago to paint a big background board to use for my portrait photography - I loved the texture and the colour and that is why now I am looking to use your paint inside and outside the cottage in different colours - the outside will probably be done in Pure Wall Paint.😎

    Hi Annie, I'll be replacing the garden shed next year. What do you recommend as treatment before painting it? The timber will already be treated for woodworm and all natural elements.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 роки тому +1

      Just make sure the timber is good and dry. If it's newly pressure treated, best to wait a few months.

    Hi Annie I have a 15 year old original click system laminate floor. I was wanting to know if I could do a white wash effect on it with chalk paint? If I did would I have to put a sealer over the top of it or would it be ok as is?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 роки тому

      There are so many different types of laminate flooring on the market that makes this question difficult to answer. I suggest that you do a small patch test first to see if everything looks and performs the way you want. Because your floor is laminate, I would recommend that you seal it with our Chalk Paint® Lacquer to protect it from wear and tear and give it the extra durability it will need.

    Hi again. I bought a can of Annie Sloan old white paint from a local antique store in Olympia WA, and cannot get the lid off! I plan to take it back. Any suggestions?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 роки тому +1

      I'm so sorry to hear that. We recommend using a paint can opener from a local hardware store or your Stockist. You can also use a blunt tool such as a spoon. Please do not use a sharp object such as a knife or screwdriver, as these can cause serious injury if used incorrectly. Try these steps: 1) Ease the opener between the top of the lid and the edge of the can. 2) Apply slight pressure and lift upwards. 3) Turn the can a few degrees and repeat the motion. You will feel the air tight seal break and hear a “pop” noise. 4) Continue turning the can until you have covered the whole circumference of the lid before attempting to pry the lid completely off. 5) Be as gentle and light handed as possible.
      If you still can't get the lid off, then certainly return it to the store where you purchased your paint. I'm sure they can help you.
