Ive made a box with woody floral glued decorations. My first try with chalk paint. For main color I used Napoleonic blue and with dry brushed Florence green details. The colors looked vivid. Then I started to play with waxes. The clear wax was good but the color was the same. I added Dark wax first with clear wax under it but then without the clear was it was gorgerous. The colors went few shades darker but very rich. Just great. So i finished it just with the dark wax and its great. I let it for 24hrs on air and tomorrow Im looking forward to see it
Great DIY how to, thanks Amanda! Its exactly what I needed to know and see about dark wax too. The brush she is using is key. Shop towels, I didn't realize they were lint free...perfect!
This was by far THE most helpful tutorial I found on using dark wax! And I was especially grateful for the demonstration on the graphite since that is exactly the color I'm using! Thank you soooooo much!!
Going to try and wax BUT before, I'm trying to distress a little first, on my end table. Wish me luck. Oh my goodness what a trip. Wish I lived closer to you....Good luck on the baby......I live in Florida so I hope the heat does not affect the wax.
Very, very, informative. If you pay attention to what she's saying, you don't hear the background noise...f?????? Losers. Of all the tutorials on chalk paint Suite Pieces has been the best diy videos out there...thank you so much and please keep up the good work.
Can I add a lighter colored chalk paint to a dark wax to make the dark wax lighter? I haven't seen anyone do this ... only the clear wax with paint added
Ahh so basically, if my piece feels sticky and tacky, I've got to much wax on it. ? So when you highlight with white wax, I like it to stand out but that's where I get this tacky feel as I don't rib it off. I tend to like the textured grains look. How do I avoid the tacky in this situation. Should I polish off when it's hardened.
Hi Rogena! If you like to use White Wax to highlight details but find it too tacky, we would recommend you leaving the white wax on for about 5 minutes before you wipe it back and that should help!
Suite Pieces Hi Thank you! The worst thing I did was by wax brushes from some place other than Annie Sloan. They smell so bad you can't believe it! My pices turned out great! I wish I new how to send a picture of them!! Thanks for your video and your very warm and adorable personality! You made it easy to watch!!!👏🌸🎨
I agree with Daniel and Jessica: the background noise is distracting for me. I kept thinking, " Why is she doing this video while there are so many people in the room?" Good information, but less noise would be helpful.
As Jessica already mentioned, the background noise really does interfere with your tutorial, which is very good by the way. Have a listen back at it and you'll see. I'm sure you want to make the best video possible, so this is meant to be helpful to you and to those who enjoy your videos. Thank you again for the video and I hope this helps (-:
Sorry to hear that! We actually just uploaded a NEW Annie Sloan Dark & Black Wax Tutorial. You can view it here: ua-cam.com/video/k7_yL1TzoKQ/v-deo.html
I love watching you as you allow the novice to believe that they can do it! No nonsense and common sense approach...TY :)
You are SO WELCOME, Phyllis!

Sticky gluepy or gloppy ha ha brilliant!!
WAAAAAY too much background noise!
I want to use a dark wax on a piece that I used clear wax on but I painted and clear waxed it awhile ago is it to late to dark wax it?
Hi! What we would recommend is to do another quick coat of clear wax to reactivate that wax, then proceed with the steps we listed in this video.

This video would be much more helpful/easier to watch if it didn't have all the background noise.
+Jessica Gagnon A simple thank you for the video would suffice.
TOO MUCH BACK GROUND NOISE
Your sound is really bad. My hearing is weak and I cannot tell anything you are saying :(
