I'm relatively new to furniture painting and I've watched a few videos here on UA-cam on the subject, but you have taken it to a new level. I really appreciate not only you sharing some of your techniques, but you explain WHY you make the choices you make. I'm subscribing and looking forward to seeing more of your artistry.
Thank you so much for leaving me a lovely message and I’d like to say a big welcome to my channel it’s lovely to meet you and don’t hesitate to throw me a message if there’s anything I can do to help 😊
es ist ein wunderschönes Sideboard geworden!!! tolles Video, man kann viel lernen (auch wenn man, wie ich nicht die englische Sprache beherscht). Wunderschön
Brilliant video. Learnt so much. Just wanted to pass on why Gustavian furniture is painted rather than keep the natural wood. Sweden and the other Scandinavian countries have long winters and in the 1600 and 1700s candles were expensive. To prevent injuries by walking into furniture they painted them lighter colours, most often off whites. These colours would reflect the few candles lit in the room so there were fewer injuries. So sensible but a beautiful reason to paint furniture. Jonathon, I’m new to your channel but I love your work, your attention to detail and your excellent tutoring of the techniques. I have done some restoration and painting but you make me feel like I could tackle any project. Great work mate and please keep on posting. From Neil in Australia
So beautiful, I don't know what my piece will look like when I am through with it, it is my first attempt in almost 80 yrs, I have been watching many videos and so happy that I came across yours. You are a very nice and patient teacher. Thank you
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
Jonathan, I've never heard of using very hot water on raw wood to bring out the grain, before! I will have to look that up and get more information on it. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Also, I wanted to give a tip about sanding and the dangers of breathing in all the dust. I have a good friend who attaches her sanding equipment to her wet/dry vacuum. She takes off the little bag attached to the piece and then duct tapes the hose of the vac onto the sander. Works wonders! I just love you, Jonathan! You have such compassion and kindness in your voice, and I see it in your eyes. Wonderful!!
Thank you so much yes I love the finish on this one it kind of works well for us in our home nothing too overly distressed just enough so it ages really beautifully
Jonathan while you're taking a holiday break I'm enjoying revisiting and studying your tutorials with much pleasure and appreciation. So much I can adapt for my own use and home. 🥰❣️
Love this, something for nothing, proof that our throwaway society could do so much better than it is. Inspirational and fun, well done, I'm learning so much about techniques from your tutorials. Thanks.
Was like I could feel that piece breathing for the first time in 100 years as you peeled back that old finish. So satisfying. Beautiful work. So we’ll done. 😊
Magical transformation Also now I know how to use the paint remover with the cling wrap and I will sort out my wonky drawers, to get them to slide easily like you demonstrated! Bless you
This tutorial has been a tremendous help to me, a brand new user of chalk paint. Thank you for your valuable explanations while demonstrating how to use chalk paint, sealer and wax. I will definitely be watching more from your channel.
This was the most beautiful exquisite tutorial I’ve watched after a few years of trying to find a more subtle look for these gorgeous treasures to renew life back into pieces! And what a gorgeous treasure you’ve transcended here! First time watching your channel and loved every second of it! Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks but mostly your knowledge and talent! I hope many many more fun & lovely labors of love to watch here! Thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you so much again❤️🙂🙃🙂🥰
Snap Sheila! - Just what I thought! My first time viewing too & definitely subscribing. Thank you Jonathon you went into just the right details we needed to know. 😍
Thank you so much your lovely comment means the world to me I’m so pleased you enjoyed it and I really do hope information is useful happy New Year catch up with you soon 😊
I love this piece so much! wow... it's just breathtaking from the top and the natural wood look, the base color of the piece! the distressing the dark wax wow wow Jonathan so beautiful!
Excellent thank you. I painted my first piece of furtniture yesterday with a chalk paint and then watched this. Now I know how to finish it off. Excellent
That is absolutely beautiful!! I love your technique for neutralizing the red/orange of the wood on the top! What a great tip!! And the rest of the the body is really pretty!
As an antique dealer....the wood on that sideboard cried out to me. The handles...everything, but it looked wonderful when you had finished. Congratulations. Wonderful. Xxx
This is stunning! Once I saw the piece in it's home, it made perfect sense. All the surrounding features, walls, door etc., are all cohesive. Great job! 🙂👍
Yeah, in Australia we call it 'cling wrap', and I totally agree with painting inside. I hate the thought of looking for something in a big dark hole. I like to see some light in my cupboards, but that is probably because we have some real nasties here in Australia. Thanks for what you share.
Another elegant beauty. Thanks so much for sharing all the tips regarding removing old finish (which looked mighty satisfying!). I have an antique oak dresser someone left a drippy bottle of gin on and it completely removed the old finish. Now I just have to convince my husband who's a "wood purist" to let me paint it.
This sideboard turned out so incredibly beautiful. I've only recently discovered your channel but I've been binge watching all weekend and I've learned so much. Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks!
Amazing finish for a true Gustavo look alike! The stripper you used, fantastic results! Well worth the process - this beauty will serve you well throughout the I’m sure!! Excellent colors choices!!

Wow thank you very much I suppose I probably could’ve had more followers but I stepped away from UA-cam for about five years so most of my followers happened before then and they seem to be picking up now but I’m truly grateful for your lovely comment that’s the best part for me interaction with people like yourself who generally I like minded and grateful for my knowledge it makes it all worthwhile happy painting xx
You’re welcome. Can’t believe I’m just after watching your leaf embedding tutorial at 3.30am, and went back to see if you had read my comment.☺️ can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get started on it the first chance I get. I saw the decoupage that you whit napkin it was a dresser i** it look magnificent. It look like a painting from a museum. Not only the decoupage but you painted around it what a artist…. Eudes from usa
May I ask: at 19:00 you added a stripper and used a wire brush... Is this the best way to remove paint in those tiny hard to reach areas???? I have a piece.. that the paint is stuck in certain indented hard to get at areas?? We are refurbishing a antique pie safe. Some in grooved spots the paint would not come off... It is faint but I wanted bare wood in that area. thank you for answering.
my god!!! Stunning...im a wee bit late to the party but tipping my toes in to learn! This video was so informative, I actually took notes! Subscribed! Blessings!
Jonathan, Absolutely beautiful! Enjoying watching every video and every bit of your work. Wondering, while sanding, the dust gets spread everywhere and you will be breathing it overtime, how do you deal with keeping the dust from pilling up in work area? Btw, do protect your eyes.
I just love your work and you are a amazing teacher also. I have a similar piece of furniture that I would like to try to do the same way. You put such thought into your work and this piece of furniture turned out beautiful…
