I recommend using heat-shrink to wrap the wires, instead of the electrical tape, because the tape glue will eventually decay and stop holding. Alternatively, you could use automotive electrical connectors (I prefer the ones with little screws to hold onto the wire) and wither heat-shrink or some dielectric grease for protection from air and moisture.
Tom Arjannikov Thanks for the tip 😊 if I were to do it today, I'd solder the wires together and use shrinking tape as you've said, along with some moisture protection.

I bought a very small WiFi camera on Wish and got the MRT app on my smartphone that acts as the camera screen. Only 2 wires that I connected to the rear number plate light. The camera works whenever the lights are on and I can make pictures and videos with the app. Works perfectly fine!

Thank you so much for the kind comment :) Either way you choose, good luck ! If you also get the rear view mirror screen, it's best that your back windows are tinted, because in daylight it's almost impossible to see the screen.
👍👍i did this on my 8 as well. in the begining i used wireless transmitter and reciver. once on german autobahn,i passed an autocamper.and suddently i could see into it on my monitor for few seconds😂😂😂🤔. dont know how, i think something with same frekvency somehow. after this,i hooked wire from trunk to monitor instead

Plenty of 8 have problem of water entering rear light from rain or washing due to the malfunction or old cracked rubber gasket.
Yes, it is quite a common issue, but since now, i didn't have any condensation in the headlight. I went trough a lot of rain, and even in the cold, the tail light is clear. I think the rubber where the cable pases absorbs the mass and still has a sort of "seal". It is true that my tails lights have been replaced with new ones, but aslong as the rubber is intact, it shouldn't be an issue :)
Glad to hear it's still intact. Mine just finished doing the DIY gasket haha right after my lights became a fish bowl after washing the car......after that water was not coming anymore :D......i was curious because your wires running under the rubber.....but you've clarify there's no condensation hehe....thanks XD
hahah well, thinking of all the fixes we have to do on this car, we might aswell pay it twice more and have it done properly :P
Use a hairdryer on your rear seat plastic it helps take the scratches out.
What if both wires for the license plate light are black wires?

I ordered off your link but mine didnt have LEDs for the lights, just an empty area with a clear piece of plastic. Should take down that link
Thats better. Trust me that led part is more of a pain than helpfull. Ive disconnected mine, im running.stock lights and camera only on that piece of plastic. We have the same setup now.

Is a rear view camera necessary, no. Will we install it anyways, yes.
Is this the only type of camera that can be used with the RX-8? I have one but it doesn't look anything like yours. I will have it installed on Sat along with a smart mirror.
It can be any car reversing camera. I just chose this one cause it blends with the interior

why would you need audio? Incase you want to watch a movie in your rearview mirror? No wonder all those people in front of me drive so slow...
They just put it there, what you do with it it's your business.. But yea, in this case it's useless, just takes up space
