Sounds a bit too loud for me, but don't think there is too much that can be done; I've driven a rotary without a cat back before and it was pretty loud. Also bought a CRX that I didn't take on the highway first, and it was quite loud and droned, but it was also geared terrible and ran something like 4 or 5k rpm at those speeds :p
My exhaust plan is RB header, BHR resonated midpipe with catalyst (depending on the regulations when purchased), and the RB Rev8 cat back. From what I've researched, it will give me the least sound increased with a deeper tone. I think at current prices it will run around $2000.
Need to do BHR ignition and some other stuff first, 26k miles, so that 30k maintenance stuff approaching soon, exhaust will have to wait
Awesome I just purchased a 08 rx8 gt wat would you recommend for the best exhaust I don’t mind something loud & also would like exhaust crackle/ bangs… also any maintenance tips? Awesome video btw.
Important thing: if you just pit midpipe withiut changing muffler it will barely shot flames. Rear muffler is very restrictive, there are many topics about it on forums

Does it make the car run lean with the CEL P2096 ?? I’m trying to figure out if the catless pipe is the reason for this code or note. My car is misfiring at high rpm and running weird and i have no idea why. Yes I’ve checked pretty much everything!

I just bought a BHR Midpipe without a cat. Still waiting for it to ship in though. At first I was kinda worried about the smell but now I don’t think that it’ll be that bad. Keep up the RX8 videos!

@@J.mz00 honestly, minimal and basically unnoticeable for me. Best midepipe there is for an RX8! Makes exhaust sound a little deeper and not too much louder over stock. I had mine still connected to the factory catback muffler. I recommend picking one up.

Actually u can get a decat, which will take the O2 sensor. It looks like an acutal Cat but it's just an empty box

Rotaries are exempt from emissions testing where i live, i think lots of rotary owners decat over here.
How many miles are on your RX-8? I'm looking to buy one and I'm not too sure what mileage I should be looking for.
I got 81k on it now. Rebuilt the engine at 70k though

WhySoGood I have a 2010 rx8 and it is Str8 piped to dual greedy the noise is deafening behind the car...... literally guy jumps out of the passenger side of a BMW behind me at a red light runs up to ask how I don't go deaf driving the dam thing I laughed and replied I'm not behind it bro

WhySoGood I would keep it gutted and installed the noise level is offensive once u Str8 pipe it but if ya don't mind the noise .....at 70 80 mile an hour it buzzes along
Great video! So far, i love my Rx8's mid pipe :) I have a de-cat midpipe install video on my channel if anyone is interested 👌 The smell is kind of annoying, because your clothes and car interior absorb the smell a bit, but once you're used to it, it's all good...not healthy, but petrol heads will smell you coming :P

BHR ftw! racing beat is great, but the BHR midpipe's resonator uses a swirly piece of metal welded into it whereas racing beat uses steel wool

Between gear shifts, or just revving in neutral. Premixing helps a lot too and you gotta wait until the exhaust heats up
rev it to 8k let it drop to 4k rpm and as soon as it hits it then step on the throttle. i have a mid pipe and it sounds like a gun shot ( exhaust has to be hot tho)
Top revs, it fuels a lot. And adds oil at max flow from omp. When you get the revs up. Float fast at high revs. Dip quick then floor to catch the bang. It's caused by ignition being cut while fuel and oil injected. Oil has a real low octane rating. It ignites it's hot vapour in contact with fresh air charge lighting any fuel present in exhaust flow. You see there is a pattern to when you ignite it. 😂

I hope this is not the answer to your japanese tune 1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position, but do not start engine.
2. Pump the brake pedal at least 20 times within 8 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.

What type of mid pipe did you use? Can you use your stock mufflers to shoot flames?
I can. Hold the rpms around 7grand for a sec. let it drop and hit it again it should double pop and let one about 6 inches.

what brand mid pipe did you get?
For example I got one by Turboworks. But to be honest it's insanely loud. On the other hand, the car behaves much better and surprisingly somehow I have lower gas mileage and as Japanda said much better throttle response.

I have heard straight pipe drops HP gains due to lack of back pressure while mid pipe retains or even gains HP due to keeping or increasing that pressure.

sorry for late reply but the mpg will always vary due to people driving differently but driving normal u may get 15mpg city and around 21hwy. if u decide to drive tf out of her then you will be looking at 8mpg everywhere XD
Black Halo Racing makes an excellent pipe is about 500$ but its the best one around. Paired with turboXS catback and ur golden.
Andrew's World what is so good about the bhr midpipe compared to say racingbeats or turboxs which is $150.
Seconded - their excellent non-obstructive resonator regulates out the raspy sound that the Racing Beat (catless _and_ resonatorless) race pipe used to make. It sounds smooth and aggressive with my GReddy SP cat-back (see my videos).
Joseph Esposito also a turboxs midpipe only will directly bolt to the turboxs catback. Of course, you can always modify the midpipe, but it is also substantially louder than the BHR unit
We've tried many resonators and ours never melts. You'll never need another.

Wait wait wait.... they send a "device" that tunes the car for you???? Im getting the bhr ignitiion system decat mid-pipe, and I am premixing. I reallly want to tune it but i don't have anyone on my island that I know of that does Rotary tuning (specifically mazda maniac). I always assumed it had to be human interactive.

If your OMP is working like it should be, premixing isnt doing anything extra for you besides putting extra oil in the housings for the engine to not burn properly. That's why it kills cats. You're doing premixing wrong. If you want to premix, block off your OMP. My decision has been to convert to a SOHN oil adapter and run a separate reservoir and let the device that meters the oil do its job with 2 stroke oil. The reason premixing kills cats is because there's excess oil in the rotor housings getting shoved out your exhaust ports. The oil metering pump is designed to prevent this..........
Alex Gilland Problem is on the older 8's there was a lack of lubrication to the middle of the rotor housing. Good idea to premix if you have an 04.
I have a 2004 Rx8, but dont know if i have an OMP. My Cat has never been taken out & car never premixed. Should i premix just a little (2-4 oz per gallon fuel) to lubricate Apex seals?
You can't make conclusions like this, even Mazda can't tell this for sure, lol.
Adding some premix could be beneficial for 2nd series as well, at least in theory.
Will it lower lifespan of a cat? probably by a small margin, the biggest killer of the cat is fuel and overheat...
What do you do about the obd2 code p0420?
All I heard was for a p420 was something to do with the cat or when you change or mess with the cat. And the O2 just change the spark plug.

Hey man, I'm looking at getting a rx8 for about 4 or 5k...my only concern is all the tlc i hear these things need. It'd be my every day drive.
late reply but its a fun car and the tlc u hear about is 100% correct lol she is high maintenance but enjoyable at the same time.
I got mine for 4k with 79k miles on it. She runs great, but I need to clear the cat as it's clogged. Anything that has 100k miles and hasn't been rebuilt I'd pass on.

To paraphrase a post on RX8Club, "A straight piped rotary engine is a beautiful thing to hear...from a distance...WITH EARPLUGS". The thing is so fucking raspy and piercing when straight piped. You won't get very far driving one because you'll have all kinds of cops on your ass the second you floor it.

You do know that the renesis rotary has all the power that it can make from the factory without adding boost or nos. Adding an aftermarket intake or exhaust can actually harm the performance.

i just cant believe you unless you show dyno results the rx8 is highly tuned and according to the rx8 owners club you get very minor gains changing anything
from what I have seen most n/a 8s make around 212-224whp heavily modded so yea the gains are small at best but with the light weight of the car it can still keep up with or pass some cars in higher classes and it damn near out corners jesus aswell

@@jaynosowsky9708 only if the exhaust poses a restriction at wot. Wot gives the motor the maximum fuel and air. So the gains are from increasing the engines ability to move more fuel and air. Not all exhausts cause a restriction at wot. This is all basic stuff. Just look it up.

u shouldnt have a code due to midpipe if u did it right
Only way to do it "right" is to turn off the rear 02 with a cobb ap. The ecu in the rx8 does a self test on the rear 02 and checks for a preset value return. If the 02 sensor is disconnected, removed partially from the exhaust flow with a 90 degree adapter, or if it senses higher emissions due to a decat situation it will not send back the results the ecu is expecting from a functional 02 and will throw a code.

I mean for track use only, it would be cool. But for daily driving... no. Reason for that is because you'll release toxic chemicals that the cat would normally remove once the smoke escape the exhaust. You're exposing this to the environment and people.

here in germany removing the cat and replacing it by a "midpipe" leads to no insurance when u crash even if u pay for it. 1200€ if u get caught and u can say good bye to ur drivers license quiet a long time. i did it on my rx8, but changed back to normal after 2 months because of the toxicity and the smell.
Japanda Tuning which midpipe did u get racingbeat? What about header? I m trying to decide racingbeat has always been good but the price. I was looking into turboxs catback race mid pipe and garageline headers. $950 shipped. Where as the racingbeat is $1600 not shipped too.
I recommend just being patient and waiting for a deal used on ebay or local craigslist, that's what I did. I got the midpipe and catback from craigslist for around $800
