Brilliant. Still playing the Lemons at 49 year old. My 11 and 7 year old love them. No choice I suppose ;-) What an era that was back then, the music was magic.
Same generation here. Sociologist say that music has become less important compared to 70s-90s. Back than it was more important for identiy development and group belonging.
Car Button Cloth may have not been the best album from my college years but it was surely my favorite. Every time I listen to it, I’m transported back to my basement dorm room with the pipes on the ceiling wrapped in asbestos.
@@nicholasconners1901 do you know EASTERN DARK? an Australian band ......it was an unfortunate band, but extremely interesting. unfortunately it had a rather short history, because during one of their tours, they had a car accident which ended the life of the young guitarist JAMES DARROCH (ex Celibate Rifles). greetings 👋.
That's Bill Gibson on bass, but Dee Robb performed with the Lemonheads on "The Tonight Show" three years earlier, I think: ua-cam.com/video/1fcQh6ELUrI/v-deo.html
There is perhaps no better example of talent ruined by excessive drug consumption than Evan Dando. Who knows what he could have done if sober? Possibly something more than than a good to occasionally very good songwriter. There is a general laziness that pervades much of his work that goes much deeper than the "slacker" attitude. This can be seen most frequently in the lyrical content of his songs, which are filled with strung together and often bizarre nonsequeters. This song in particular is a good example. Until recently I hadn't released that the line was actually "Khmer Rouge/Je Ne Sais Quoi/Your place or Mein Kampf" - Referencing two brutal dictators. How apt that this song is a description of an episode of drug-induced psychosis.
@@curragh4635What? Evan looks fine for someone over 50..esp with the life he's led. But saying that it's been a few months since I seen him..are you referring to his bushy beard..could you send me a link if possible.
@@curragh4635totally agree, it's heart breaking how affected he is from our Ng term drug abuse. Some of the footage on his yt really cuts deep at how it's messed him up. Still has a voice like velvet though
+Claire Louise Heffron The singer, Evan Dando, is the brain behind the Lemonheads. Band members are not really members of the band but just musicians to record and play live. Evan is American, now touring in North America but sadly the Lemonheads no longer exist.
Seems like they were underrated at the time, and now have been kind of forgotten. They were definitely one of my favorites. So catchy and fun.

I was like 12/13 years old when this came out. Had it on cassette and used to play it on repeat skateboarding around the neighborhood.
Same generation here. Sociologist say that music has become less important compared to 70s-90s. Back than it was more important for identiy development and group belonging.
The interesting thing about them is their first album was a punk album, kind of like Beastie Boys.
So true. Listening in a Sunday morning and loving it. Just heard them open some show with killing moon and it was orgiastitic
What a time to grow up, so much good music during those years
Despite Evan’s sore throat it turned out to be a great performance! Love it! 90’s kid here from the Philippines. 41 years old now!
Same here hanggang ngsyon i listen parin❤️🤓
Mabuhay
Song brings back memories. And the rest of the band reminds me that it's been too long since I last watched Superbad
Mid to late 90s were such an amazing time to grow up, I wish I would have appreciated those times more
His exhausted throat makes this version pretty sweet. Love it.
He did it on 120 minutes and he sounded even more harsh but I Used to play that version out!
MURPH!!!
What an awesome melody.
If i could sing i'd sing it.
Your YT name is wonderful, we should be friends.
The 90's its the last decade of great music,,i miss those days
Car Button Cloth may have not been the best album from my college years but it was surely my favorite. Every time I listen to it, I’m transported back to my basement dorm room with the pipes on the ceiling wrapped in asbestos.
Had those same pipes ha!
Amen to that.
It was one of my favorite albums too. Really inspired me to make myself record an album toi
Good times for sure. Back then everyone was like "your place or Mein Kampf?"
I like this song, it’s very pleasant
A día de hoy ,este tema me sigue emocionando. Memorias de una época maravillosa.
superb rendition of an always superb cover, cheers mate (i am very much so not British)
This has to be the best performance I've ever seen or heard from them, probably due to the extraordinary lineup. Everybody just kills it.
Abfab. Previous to this, "Hate your friends" is my personal album of all time. Love 'em.
Nice backing harmony there from the bassman.
That’s Bill Gibson from the Eastern Dark ua-cam.com/video/MEibn8EFcFA/v-deo.html
Evan's always had a penchant for Australian bass players.
god that bass sure sounds good
Had no idea Horatio Sanz was a member back then.
Killer Drummer on this.
it's Murph from Dinosaur Jr
Evan Dando. The original Alterna-hunk
Great song.
so very good!
good audio quality on this!
Glad you think so ;)
+What's for afters? awesome man
Is that Murph (drummer from Dinosaur Jr.) on drums?
+Gonzalo Cerrón Sure is. He played on most of Car Button Cloth and toured with the band around this time.
(Y)
Yes
Bill Gibson on bass.......ex EASTERN DARK!!👍
I was hoping someone in the comments would identify the bassist. Thanks for coming through!

@tazzinasellout7968 yessir. Eastern Dark were mentioned on a podcast I was listening to... they are great.
great song
Godamm that's good.
John Strohm on lead gtr.
I think that is Dee Robb on bass. Wow, weirdest Lemonheads Line-Up everrrrrr?
yeah i think it is Dee on bass!! really enjoyed the backing vocals & bass here!!!

He looks a bit like John Squire
jangly guitars on overdrive!
Where have 23 yrs gone
Wow, the Lemonheads the band has existed longer than than Lemonheads the candy had existed when this performance was shot. Or something
Was Evan apologising for losing his voice at the end?
What is that Mark Maron for a split second at the end? Anyone else catch that?
Reminds me of The Replacements
The Replacements were just a little more rough...Paul's voice was like sandpaper...
And, I'm not saying that's bad!
The early Lemonheads used to go see The Replacements when they came to town.
@curragh 42 I always thought Evan must've been listening to Dyslexic Heart while writing this song, the timeline adds up too
Na nanana....
Conan always had the best musical guests!
Dando is definitely feeling no pain here, despite his sore throat (wink wink)! Very funny!

He's lucky he's still alive I saw footage of him recently it's tough to watch.. hard-core drugs eventually catches up to everyone. Sad man

Dustin from stranger things on bass!
I`m still searching for the joke.
@@aseriesoftriangleswecalltr6065 that’s the thing it’s not.
looool was that young coke maron at the end?
Murph Life Matters
Evan forevar
Evan Dando's legs don't look like they actually belong to him!
Theyre singing in a different key...maybe because his throat was sore that night.
Is that murph from dinosaur jr on drums?!
Horatio Sanz was in The Lemonheads?
this is absolutely hilarious. (thought the same thing)
Loco x mary!
Manolo Ortiz Claro!

Vine a buscar esta canción después de ver "loco por Mary"
John Strohm?
Conan meets Evan. Two brilliant unsungs.
What came first?band or candy?
The band named itself after the candy. Wikipedia says the candy was introduced in 1962; the band formed 24 years later.
Are they Canadian?

Liam Tavernier neither of you should even be commenting publically about music. It's fucking Murph from Dinosaur Jr. on drums.
Dando and druymmer at least are from Boston
Yes except 5he drummer
No. Bostonian.
Does anyone else out there think Blink-182 might have ripped this off? Listen to “Degenerate”
Byrdsey
who the fuck didn't like?
I love this song and Evan phones it in, as he apparently can’t be bothered.
I don't think he's phoning it in.... I think he's just on heroin
