I could listen to you talk about anything. You’re so well spoken and captivating when talking about your passion. You can just feel the love and respect you have for these things.
And I think of all the Fashion Design students that should watch and learn and have a reference of this information for the future. Reading a book for knowledge is on thing but listening to her is another.
Muchas Felicidades!!
Hi Dearheart. I watched this two yrs ago, in it's entirety, and just re-watched it again. It was like enjoying well-seasoned left overs, (even better the next time.) 🤣 The difference? I went from "WOW! To "Wow and Eight months of avid collecting❣" I now have beautiful and unique Taxco and Native American pieces. But, of course, nothing as incredible as yours (a girl can hope..and dream to aquire right.)😃 Thank you, Dear Doris...YOU inspire. 🌼
Doris I just love how you can weave a story out of just about any item's history and significance. I always learn so much and I really appreciate the effort you put into teaching us about your passion. I have always been a lover of Antiques Roadshow and your videos (and LA Frock Stars) give me that same kind of vibe. Would love to see a video where you focus on some of the items you have with interesting backstories rather than it having a theme in regards to time period or designer. Things that have been in TV/film, belonged to important people, are made out of rare or interesting materials, etc. I love all the quirky things you get and their stories are sometimes just as fascinating as the pieces themselves! Keep up the awesome work!
agreed, would love the know the stories, who it belonged to and by what kind of coincidence you acquired it. That is what makes vintage so interesting.
Awe, when you said " things wait for you". It reminded me of a heart shaped stone I have with a sterling 925 stamp in the center with a swan that says Sweden. I waited for 3 months for the price to go down at my local thrift store. I was 20. I could barely afford gas while in college, but I would visit that stone and it waited for me. Much love!
I don’t want this video to end!! I’d love to see every piece up close for much longer. And thank you for not polishing the Sterling! I’m loving you! lol.
I have always had such a passion for collecting Mexican silver as I began to invest in my own jewelry collection. I absolutely love your content and all of the beautiful stories you tell. Thank you so much for the wonderful videos, Doris!
Beautiful Collection Doris and very entrancing stories as always, im mexican and it males me proud that someone With so much style and class like you enjoys something from my culture, keep the awsome work 💕
Giovanna torres I LOVE MEXICO!! The culture, the people, the cities. I’ve been all over and need to learn Spanish. Hoping to spend a few months a year in a beach community near Zihuatanejo when I retire. You should be proud of your culture!!
Doris! I really love how you speak about each piece: whether it is clothes, hats or even jewelry; with such care, love and respect. While watching your show, I am taken back to the era you speak about. It shows that you are a wonderful storyteller!! Thank you for your channel! Love from India!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been collecting vintage Taxco for about 25 years! Now, I am waiting for you to show us your fantastic Native American jewelry collection. I have noticed you wearing it on several occasions.
I have loved your program since you were on the Smithsonian Channel. Happened to catch you on a FREE premiere. So happy you are on U Tube and I can watch when I want to. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of such lovely pieces of clothing and accessories.
Thank you for preserving the patina on these wonderful pieces. You can't buy or artificially recreate the beautiful and complex surfaces that only age accrue.
So much knowledge! I love insect jewelry and found a great Mexican silver beetle at a thrift store for $5.....the first time I wore it fell off during the day and I lost it. Still sad. Your videos are wonderful!
I would love to hear you speak about where in the world is the best for buying vintage, Doris. I'd bet you have some great stories and insights. The silver is stunning, Taxco sounds magical.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, your videos are so interesting and insightful. I only recently found your videos on the Smithsonian Channel and I'm so glad I also bumped into your own channel now. I feel like I'm on a journey - through the history and the stories of fashion and I can't wait to learn more from you.
I really enjoy your show especially the jewelry, you taught me so much about Mexican Silver . I bought the books and I’ve been finding pieces that are beautiful and timeless. I always collected Bakelite bangles with dots and Venetian beads. Thank you Doris, you are a fascinating woman.
Great Margiela piece as well. People always think of his work as very academic and minimal but it's actually quite playful and whimsical a lot of the time, right up Doris's street. Wonderful find and story.
Dear Doris, what adorable voice and taste you have. I look foward to see the Margiela pieces of yours. Thanx for these amazing classes that you provide on your channel! Best regards, Eduardo
Thank you for this great talk. I have a Taxco broach that was purchased in Mexico in the 1930s by my great grandmother- my grandma gave it to me and I love wearing it. I’ve never researched it, but now you’ve inspired me to find out more!
I work in a thrift store and of course what comes in after I see this episode? A stunning pair of abalone inlaid Mexican silver earrings. The stamps were hard to decipher and a customer bought them before I could really start digging into them, but I was glad to know more about them because of this show!
Thank you so much for sharing this collection, absolutely beautiful pieces! I love what you said about it not being all about a "name/brand" but the design.
I did also!!! That really is what's important. We've gotten so caught up with names. BTW who wears their shit inside out to even show the label. Goodwill, Target, Neimans. Who cares??
You come to this channel for education, for beautiful stories, for great videos. Thank you so much, Doris, for sharing your passion with us. Greetings from Eastern Europe.
Nice video, the Mexican silver work from Taxco are one of the most beatiful in the world, you are so amazing talking about everything you share in your videos. Greetings from SLP México.
I’ve been collecting vintage since 1980 but like a magpie, just picking what I like. It’s so nice to hear your stories. Very like an art history class. Also, your silver hair is looking fabulous, too. ❤️
My favorite episode so far, and all are great. Like you I ♥️♥️♥️ jewelry. I collect Mexican jewelry from Oaxaca, Frida Kahlo style earrings and enjoy and wear them frequently. Always adding to my collection.
I appreciated seeing this episode! Oh, the craftsmanship of those pieces!!! I have had the rare and wonderful privilege of taking two college-level Art Metal classes from Dr Winona Alexander, so based on my own design projects in silver and copper, I KNOW the time and artisanship involved in making them. These were NOT made in a day, and very likely took several weeks to complete. I am in awe! I, too, appreciate unique pieces, which gives me pride/pleasure when I wear my own designs...two silver lost-cast wax rings, one which has THREE ounces of silver in it (I'm a tall lady--5'11"--so dainty jewelry is not for me!), several smaller pieces, a 3 inch wide hammered copper cuff bracelet, and a corrugated copper foil hammered bowl. Watching your video makes me want to get back in my workshop.
Amazing designs and stories of the origin and paths of these pieces. I do have a weakness for jewelry along with a weakness in finances and a lack of time for flea markets. I find interesting pieces at the fair trade site, Novica. When I use the word "interesting" I mean designs that are not usually seen a clothing/accessory chain store. I love hearing how the pieces were acquired. History, whether of clothing, accessories and people, always fascinates me. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you for this video! I have been collecting Mexican silver for a little over a year. I read everything I can get my hands on. I have yet to come across that book but will look it up now. Its exactly what ive needed. I have 4 books on native American sterling jewelry and this is the reference for Mexican pieces Ive needed. I am in awe of the beauty and love the heaviness and the history that comes with it. Thank you again! -Inna
I hope you can add more pieces in the future. Silver jewerly reminds me of my mother, who grew up very poor here in Mexico, and when she finished school and started making money, she started her own silver jewerly collection, more than 40 years ago... Thank you for the information and for taking the time to learn about mexican culture.
I started collecting at 14 when I used my allowance to buy a silver necklace from a junk store...a whole dollar fifty. I’m now 70. I have a small collection of Taxco... love this jewelry.
Thank you for putting this together. I know how much time this takes. I love collecting jewelry from eBay. Nothing valuable, but things that speak to me. I have lots of Taxco silver from Mexico from my travels. It is so lovely. I got a lot from when I was in high school and still wear it 30 years later.
Love love love the jewelry box, all the jewelry have such beautiful craftsmanship. They all make beautiful statement pieces no doubt. p.s. Also I don't mind ending credit extend couple seconds longer, Orchid and Michael did a great job and deserve the recognition ;) so great to have the close-ups on the side.
H. Lan Thanks for acknowledging the team!! Mike is the genius who suggested doing these episodes and Orchid and Mike do the production and post. I think we keep getting better. So excited that we have gotten the amazing positive feedback from our viewers.... like you! Thanks a bunch! Doris

I saw the title and was instantly excited to watch 👍👍👍I look forward to your videos I always learn so much and am always left with a smile on my face you are doing such a great job with your channel I wish you the best and can’t wait to see what you do next 👍❤️
You are just the coolest person with amazing style. Thanks for sharing and giving us some ideas for refreshing our personal style without chasing the trends.
Doris that was incredible.🙏🏿🌟. I was a college student in Cuernavaca studying Spanish. On a day trip to Taxco, I fell 🥰 with the silver jewelry. On the bus we got the chance to sit next to chickens and 🐓 roosters, as the bus 🚌 rode along a winding road. Taxco looks like a beautiful whitewashed city etched into the mountain, hence the etched silver jewelry 😇💝
I'm so glad you gave us a history lesson before you showed us your exquisite pieces. I would have spent the whole episode hung up on how many of the pieces reminded me of Arts & Crafts, and Deco architecture. Instead, I just relaxed and worked up a good envy!
Hello Doris, ✨Oh my goodness I just found you✨ I used to watch your television show years ago until the TV company took that channel off.😞 Needless to say I'm delighted to have found you again.👏 You are so interesting and knowledgeable.📚 I'm so happy .... to get a fashion 👗 education. Loved your stories regarding your silver collection. Thank you 🙋🏼 🇨🇦
Mz Raymond you are such a wealth of precious knowledge and you are so generous sharing so much with us.Im so glad i ‘stumbled’ on your channel. Thankyou & Cheers from Australia!
Everything is just so beautiful! I especially love the amethyst stuff, branded and no signature alike. What u'r wearing is particularly lovely. My mom has a small snuff/pillbox much like the one u showed with amber. Nice to know what its origin must be. Thankyou for ur generosity in showing us, doris! Xoxo
I just LOVED this!! My grandmother was a huge fan of silver and so am I. I inherited a few of her pieces but have many of my own which include some native pieces. I soooo appreciated all this info and you sharing about your collection!! ; )
I just bought 3 bangles from goodwill with Mexico stamped inside. Not sure how silver they are. So I attempted to polish them. Although they do look more silver now they aren't quite as "silvery" as some other Mexican silver pieces I have owned. ..I say ownED..🙁 My house burned down in the 2017 wildfire in Santa Rosa. I had the most amazing vintage collection I've ever seen outside of a store. Not high end-named designers, but amazing stuff. Closets & room full. An entire museum collection of late Victorian-Eduardian clothing. Tragic. Anyway... I had a very unique purse. It was a very large abalone shell w a solid Taxco Silver back piece hinged on the shell. So beautiful. I found another but it's half the size & doesn't have the Taxco stamp. That was probably one of the most unique silver pieces I had. 👌 Thank you for this video. I just so happened to stumble upon you researching the bangles.🙂
My aunt (and uncle) went to Mexico in the '50s. Sadly she barely wore the large Ballesteros sterling starburst/flower pendant with a large faceted stone in the center before she passed away. The classic sterling swirled link bracelet was also rarely worn. I wonder if these are in the book you showed. I'm lucky to have them, as well as the hand embroidered skirt and matching shoes and a mandolin. I also have 3 ensembles handknit by her from that period, one of which is covered in bronze sequins.
Doris Raymond is basically the History Professor that we didn't know we need until we try her course "HISTORY 351 - Fashion's context and role in the late 19th and throughout the 20th centuries". Guys, take out your paper and write what she teaches down - you ain't gonna get it anywhere. Except there is no HW, Quiz, Mid Term and Final Exam (YAY!!!).
Mexican silver, has never gone out of fashion. A good investment you can play with.
Yes there so many beautiful collectable pieces!
I could listen to you talk about anything. You’re so well spoken and captivating when talking about your passion. You can just feel the love and respect you have for these things.

Such lovely presentation.
I feel as if I've been personally invited to touch and enjoy every piece with a newfound friend
Thank you so much Doris for including this Mexican jewelry video, I did not know you like it so much. I am Mexican and feel honored!!
Not only silver but Mexican food and history are so inspiring and rich of a lot of culture that is showed in their pyramids and beaches! Viva Mexico!!
Muchas Felicidades!!

Thank you for relating my sentiments. My hope that someday while thrifting I find an item to save, just like Doris does.
I love learning about time pieces but yes I would love to hear the behind story. But she could read the phone book and make it wonderful!!!!
I love how Doris weaves beauty and history seamlessly. Thanks for sharing these works of art!
Anissa Apolinario Thanka for appreciating our show!

Thank you for preserving the patina on these wonderful pieces. You can't buy or artificially recreate the beautiful and complex surfaces that only age accrue.
Finally... waiting for this for so long. I love clothes but jewellery is my weakness. Thank you for uploading

The owl 🦉is beautiful. Really liked that you put all the book covers at the end. Thanks.
Love this so much, unbelievably inspiring
I'm so glad you gave us a history lesson before you showed us your exquisite pieces. I would have spent the whole episode hung up on how many of the pieces reminded me of Arts & Crafts, and Deco architecture. Instead, I just relaxed and worked up a good envy!
I Love Mexican jewelry! Your collection is amazing and love the jewelry your wearing. Thanks for the book references, will have to get some.
Hello Doris,

Everything is just so beautiful! I especially love the amethyst stuff, branded and no signature alike. What u'r wearing is particularly lovely. Doris you are incredible - literally who I aspire to become one day!!
Dino Bonacic Thanks for the huge compliment! Are you in the vintage clothing business? How can I be of help?
Doris
Cant wait for the margiela video !! Keep up the good work with the chanel, I've watched every video.
Just beautiful! I'm going to revisit a few pieces left from my mother 😊
Your passion and knowledge is so entertaining
She is a legend
It's all so beautiful 😍
Always fascinating
Thank you Doris
Beautiful pieces, they look ancient and modern at the same time.
My aunt (and uncle) went to Mexico in the '50s. Sadly she barely wore the large Ballesteros sterling starburst/flower pendant with a large faceted stone in the center before she passed away.
