Ryan Wilt Get one from Germany. They are super cheap there. My personal favorite is MB E55 AMG wagon.(475 HP and very reliable engine. You can get a good one with 15k€ from Germany)
Yep, you can't bring them stateside for street usage. I'm guessing you live in europe to have seen one? I also didn't think they updated the C7 since it was released

Karim nassef about a month or so back youtube aloud videos to be uploaded in 60 fps, and this seems to be when farrah started using that feature. previously youtube vids ran at 30 fps.
BK bransen THe problem is that 60fps does NOT run correctly on many systems. UA-cam does NOT offer a 30fps option for people with systems that need it either.
Yea, idk I was just watching on my phone, and it was just so good. Maybe my UA-cam all auto-played 60 fps, because previous quality was good, but not this good.
I don't know why, but I love wagons. The idea of something so goofy being so madly fast is amazing to me. They get a lot of hate, but I think when done right, any wagon can be beautiful. So there you have a (usually heavy), fast, beautiful, practical car, which is awesome.
***** Yep you nailed it. It's almost cartoon-like in its ridiculousness. In my experience driving it over the last three years, almost nobody knows what it is. You should have seen the face of the guy driving that Lamborghini Gallardo last week when I caught and passed him. It's like you expect that to happen with a supercar or a Viper or a Z06 or something - you never expect the station wagon. That's why in addition to calling it the Unobtainicorn, I also call it the Spanish Inquisition. And sometimes it's Moby DIck's White Whale.
JD JoyrideTV Actually it's not just the Prius, I'd say it's ALL TOYOTA drivers. EVERY SINGLE TIME there's a lineup of cars following a slow driver, it's a Toyota in front (except pickups and sports cars), blocking everyone. At least here in North America. Maybe it's Peugeots in Europe, something else in Asia...
I just overtake them like the bitches they are. Why wouldn't Matt do this is beyond me.... unless there are police lurking around every corner... you can just cut out the moment to overtake
in london every second mini-caber drives prius... they ususally go 10-20 miles below the speed limit blocking whole traffic. I overtake them whenever I can. A lot of times I feel like just raming into one of them and pushing the c*nt forward. And yes, there is something wrong with toyota drivers.... but there is something wrong with drivers in the UK in general. They usually can't drive to save their lives but are eager to "teach" you by blocking the right line of the motorway and just hanging there at 50 mph. You gotta break the law to pass him on the left and he will honk you and show you a finger. I always said they should make a special network of underground roads for them and make them drive golf carts.
Great job Matt! Your reviews are getting better and better. I love how you build up a great chat with every enthusiast you meet and get to know their car before you actually hit the throttle all the way! Shows your respect for what every single guy does with its car, some driving it across the country for you to drive and review it. No matter if it's a Prius or a Corvette, simply great petrol head TV! GREAT SHOW!!!
I have a 2011 CTS-V sedan with 130,000 miles on it. I drive it every day. I almost bought a 2016 CTS-V but could not justify the price, $68,000, for the performance gains. My LSA is not much slower than the LT4, and I own it outright. Love my Cadillac. Thanks for the video!
This was a great video, that wagon screams "Road Trip" like few 600+hp cars do. Much props to the owner and I felt like Matt wanted to push it harder but couldn't and I can respect that.
***** Thanks. And yeah it is an epic road trip car. It just eats up highway miles like nobody's business, and in touring mode the suspension is nice and compliant without being floaty. And because there's so much torque you never need to downshift to pass people or go up hills. The MPG is still pretty bad but that's the only real downside.
Matt, would you suggest a first gen CTS-V 6-speed as a budget daily driver/muscle car? I love the way they sound and the first gens are more of a sleeper than the newer ones.
I own one as a DD (first gen V with magna exhaust, cat-delete, skipshift delete, creative steel diff bushing). It's a fantastic daily, total sleeper. I like the fact that it's a totally under-stressed pushrod LS6, naturally aspirated. They'll last forever if you don't hoon them everywhere. For context I've owned: Porsche 996TT, BMW E46 M3, Porsche 968, and BMW E60 M5. I still own an 87 Carrera 3.2 G Body (and always will). The CTS-V has nearly the same power as the 996TT and M5. Not quite as fast (especially vs the TT), and the handling is definitely more "American" vs the precision out of a Porsche or M car. But on the upside - the soundtrack from the LS6 is honestly just awesome. The only car of mine I've ever owned that sounds better is the 3.2 Carrera. And the V is such a simple car from a maintenance perspective. At the end of the day, it's a Chevy with *almost M5* performance, without the maintenance nightmares. Fantastic daily if you need 4 doors.
MikeHuntIsItchy That's true, these are becoming relatively affordable with not too many miles on them, and the performance to dollar ratio is off the scale.
I was amused when I saw this video pop up. I don't personally know the owner, but I used to see it everyday after work on the way home. You can't miss that plate.
60fps looks so smooth. Awesome car. Too bad Americans hate the manual gearbox. Short of bumper to bumper, I prefer a manual gearbox. Damn the .025689224 ms shift speed.
duweydang "Too bad Americans hate the manual gearbox". American cars have been the only ones to still embrace manual gearboxes unlike Audi, Porsche and Mercedes. So get rekt, Doofy.
Lunar Cactus I was screaming the exact same thing in my head as I was reading that comment. However, the PDK gearbox is a thing of beauty and if I had no choice, that would be a suitable replacement.
Lunar Cactus I'm not speaking of sports cars having a manual option. If you read my statement, Americans do hate manual gearboxes. That's why most cars on the road are automatics. It isn't specific to a group of cars but overall.
J King no need to scream and get personal from a true statement. Of all of your family members and friends and their family members, you're telling me I'm wrong when they drive automatics?
***** Thanks. Yeah I bought it specifically because it was a manual, and a wagon. And the manual is Tremec's TR6060 so it's a good manual. It's pretty much the only manual car I've owned in the last 10 years that I didn't swap a short shifter into. It's not as precise as something like a Miata or a BRZ manual, but it's strong enough to handle so much power, and still very smooth, the throws are short enough and it just feels good to row it.
Im European and I would much rather have a Cadillac than any of these overpriced status symbols we get here. I also cant wait for the new CTS V, and when the ATS V gets a V8.. well lets just say its game over for the competition. Honestly what Cadillac should do is make a V version for every single current model, CT6-V, Escalade-V, Elmiraj-V, XTS-V.
Another good point of view, thanks. Instant fuel economy is irrelevant though. There is a lot of good information and I enjoy these reviews. What I really would like to see at the end of each episode is some type of a summary of the pros and cons, maybe a 1 to 10 scale with five or more categories? If I watch one of these, its usually because I am interested in buying/building something similar. So perhaps more insight into (and all I care about is) ....value vs other similar cars? Ease of drifting? Butt dyno? What makes this better or worse than other similar cars? Fun factor? etc.
This car deserves to have a category of its own .. the one where tuning is more of really smart and targeted upgrading over the OEM ! In cases like the above its not only "lucky driver " but also "lucky car " too !
arno maas Thanks. Yeah I wasn't going for extreme power, I was really just going for some more power over stock while maintaining daily drivability. Since my mods are pretty much all just bolt-ons, that's pretty much what I got. It runs on CA 91 octane, too.
I sincerely hope it will stay as much reliable as possible . Have lots of fun with it ! (usually cars get damaged by owners who don't maintain them properly , not those who just use them as they were intended ,so hopefully yours will last long ! )
@bottomlayer the CTS-V sedan and wagon have normal door handles, the CTS-V coupe has the door buttons like the Corvette. My gf has a Stingray, and had a C6 before that, and we never had a problem with the door buttons, so I don't really have a problem with them.
2017 Truly the best cars for overall performance and luxury. If u want a ZO6 and you do not have plans on having that car on the track than you need to get the Cadillac. Really comes down to if your a person who will go a race the track or not. 1.E63 AMG 2.CTS-V 3.M5
I have seen these at the track. They are well respected for what they are. The 2016 CTS V is going to be even more impressive. A Z06 of Cadillacs. I have a 14 Shelby.
I'm from Germany and I love this car. Not easy to find. Could you please tell me, which street you made this video? I'm planning a trip and looks great. Thanks
Never really been a fan of American cars ( no not a hater, just a personal thing) but this one, I'd actually consider buying one If I was in the market and they were available here. I've not had the opportunity to drive one but I hear good things all the time and there isnt really anything I DON'T like about it. Good job with this one, America.
Antifaith29 Yeah, what's really interesting about the CTS-V is how good it is in ways you don't expect. Like everybody knows it has a lot of power, you expect to get in it and go fast, and it does. But people generally don't expect how good a car it is in every other way too. The suspension and handling in this car is sublime. The steering is perfectly weighted, and when you're driving it it feels much smaller than it actually is. It feels like a real sports car, not a floppy Cadillac from years gone by. When you hit a corner, it feels like the car is rotating around your body. And that's the surprise. It almost feels like buying a CTS-V just for its power is a waste, because of how well it does everything else. Yeah it's really heavy, but they designed the suspension and chassis very well and it hunkers down and eats corners. Uneven roads don't upset it, it just stays super planted. That's what makes it such a joy to drive all the time, because the car is so well sorted. It's not just a big engine, it's the whole package. And the harder you push it, the better it gets. It was developed in Germany on the Nurburgring and the autobahns, and you can feel that when you start pushing it hard. It just settles down and does everything you want it to do. It really is an extraordinary car.
Another great idea GM Holton I don't know what the hell they're problem is they stop building the Cadillac CTS spec big they should have kept on producing it people love that car it's the best of everything it's got the most luxury that an American car can offer and the balls used engine and drivetrain
I'm assuming you meant Holden. Holden does not build the CTS, and they never built the CTS. The CTS-V is on the Sigma II platform, not the Zeta platform like the Holden cars. All CTSes, and obviously CTS-Vs, were built in Lansing Michigan.
Not gonna lie, this might be my top car too. Although I hear that the Chevy SS is just the Pontiac G8 (aka Holden) revived. But the Cadi, sigh, so sexy.
I love this car... Would have bought one if it was 4wd.. Had manual 2.5xt turbo outback wagons.. Foresters.. And my current e350 4matic wagon.. Although the Benz has to be auto. My Fiesta st is a stick though. A 4wd manual ctsv wagon would have been perfect. B6 s4 manual wagon?
what do they mean by mag ride is it like the acura zdx active dampening system where the oil thickens or thins out with electrostatic charge? cause i dont think that technology is new i think they had that in the 1989 thunder bird sc
Lets Get Gnar Magneride was developed by GM, it uses metal filings in magnetorheological fluid so when it's exposed to a magnetic field it increases its viscosity. Its first use was in the Cadillac Seville STS.
Stock they dyno at 460, 480 max. No way he got 150-180 wheel horsepower from headers, and a pulley. That dyno was super generous to say the least, and realistically is probably more around 540-560whp
I've seen the dyno results. It was on a Dynapack dyno. He runs E85 not 91 octane. That's how his car made 630 WHP. ua-cam.com/video/7nLeI1b42f4/v-deo.html RIP Zak
Awesome video, awesome car, and panoramic sunroofs are awesome! Question to Zach and anyone else with a car that has electronic door handles: do any of you just use the emergency handle all the time? That's what I'd do.
80k miles and still solid as a rock. Most M5s and M6s at that point would have needed a new $12k transmission and yes, the owners could afford but that's besides the point when it comes to quality. Another excuse the German owners use is "people don't own their car beyond 3 to 5 years". That's also besides the point when it comes to making a reliable car.
Djonkie Bonk Yeah I've been very happy with the way the V wagon has held up. The alcantera covering on the steering wheel hasn't held up that well but that's not a big deal to replace, everything else has held up. I've been really happy with it.
damn that t-shirt plug at the end was gansgter as fuck! straight ripped that shit out like a silverback! as always, great video Matt. living vicariously through these while I'm in Chicago dreaming of being back home in LA.
Patrick Carta People cannot reply to your comments, not sure if you have it that way on purpose or not.. 80k miles is not a lot, in general. For a car like this though, 80k is 'a lot' because it means the car has actually been used, basically as a daily driver. What Matt means is that this car doesn't 'feel' (noises, and things usually feel less tight and such with mileage and age) as though it has 80k miles on it.
wantsanewvehicle Yeah what we meant was just that 80k miles is a lot because it's a 2011 model, so it's a lot for that period of time. I put over 20k miles a year on it, which is a decent amount.
wantsanewvehicle No I did not do that on purpose. But 80.000 miles shouldn't be a lot of any car... Well over here its not (Europe) My BMW 330 E46 wagon got 160.000 miles on it. And still drives like a new car. ( Just as an example)
Patrick Carta ah. You need to go into your settings and change it so people can reply to your comments :) like I said 80k isn't a lot on a modern vehicle, but stuff does wear and tear with age and miles. BMW is supposedly better quality than some others, but I seriously doubt it actually 'drives like new'..
wantsanewvehicle I will check that, before you could do that in this chat itself. Anyways, BMW strait 6 cylinder engines are pretty much bullet proof. My car got no extra ''noises'' and no wear and tear on the interior. A well maintained BMW can easily go a million miles. (depends on model and year of course) As a car mechanic I have seen a few with almost that kind of mileage. But you don't have to belief me on the ''drives like new'' thing. Also you can't really compare American build quality to German build quality. But I do admit the last few years VW and Audi the build quality is going backwards. .
Patrick Carta You still can make it so that people can't reply to your comments after you post a comment, I believe by hitting the edit button. That's why I asked if you did it on purpose :p I know the option is also somewhere in your settings, and by default if you don't have a google plus account or whatever. Exactly .. not all vehicle build quality is the same, especially in past years. So that's why 80k miles on one vehicle might be 'the same' as 120k on another.
I've got the Coupe version averaging 16 mpg with regular high speed canyon driving so gas gas mileage not as dire as indicated here, but then again, I'm not doing 180 mph on the salt flat
TheSmokingTire is your fox body finished yet? I think I heard you reference driving it in a different video but if it is I would love to see a video on it!
+675ctsv The dyno sheet and a link to the video of the dyno run are on my wheelwell profile, link in the description. Also you can see all the mods on the wheelwell profile. And keep in mind manual transmission CTS-Vs dyno higher than automatics because of less drivetrain loss. Generally ~30 whp higher.
+Xaqtly I'll check it out I believe you that's awesome. My camed pulleyed exhaust auto V put down 610 that's why I was surprised. Currently dropping in a 418 with a heartbeat 2.3 supercharger and water meth.
Matt you don't seem to push the cars hard anymore. You're just cruising instead of getting on it . Is there a reason for that? Did people not want you to get on there cars?
Andy C7/SRT This was the last shoot we have/will ever do on a Sunday. It was scheduled a very long time ago, and I reviewed 10 cars this day. On sundays there are cops, cyclists, hikers, and other cars, and it's not worth the risk to drive very fast on those conditions. going forward, one take shoots are on weekdays and with much emptier roads, it will be much safer to go quick.
Sadly, Zak is no longer with us. He passed away about 2 years ago after a battle with cancer. He was a fighter and kept his sense of humor right up until the end. He is missed.
Love this car! So much utility! Debating between this or an ISF. Would love to own it if it had a little better reliability. Wondering how it does later in life.
vidurc All I can tell you from my experience is that the V has been very reliable. The LS drivetrain is legendary for its sturdiness, and as of maybe 5 or 6 years ago, GM quit screwing around and started making much better interiors, with much better build quality. Mine has 80k miles on it now and you can't really tell.
Xaqtly I read a few threads about these having some diff overheating issues and some supercharger issues. I love the ISF but can't deny the utility and power that the CTSV has. Frankly this would make more sense once we start a family too. Will have to keep track of it. I want to see a few examples of them getting to the 150K mark. I've heard of a few ISF's getting to the 200K mark with no issues.
vidurc Yeah those issues exist to an extent - the diff overheating usually only happens if you track the car for a full day, it doesn't happen on the street. The supercharger issues are due to the isolator bushing, and once that's fixed there aren't any other issues with it. Both issues (rear diff replacement if needed) are fully covered under the drivetrain warranty which goes to 100k miles. I recently had my V at the dealer for maintenance, and they were going to replace my supercharger under the TSB, but they took it apart and found that nothing was wrong with it so they put it back on the car. It's the original supercharger with 80k miles on it now. I know a couple people who have gotten their Vs to 150k miles and they're still solid. Mine still has a ways to go, but so far it's held up really nicely.
Xaqtly Interesting. I wanted to pick one up used. Might look at carmax since they have a warranty on the cars they sell. Really torn between the two. Would love the CTSV wagon just because it would be the most unique car on the street.
+CMDR Boom Yeah I originally wanted a black one, couldn't find it so I got this white one instead. But I've grown to like it after blacking out the front grilles and the badges.
We need more super wagons stateside! Especially the rs6 avant

DesertStateInEu if u want a cadillac cts-v.. we have one for sale.. 2011 and only 4k km!! :]
Patrik D
I meant maybe one day, but I think that day is far away lol
DesertStateInEu ATS isn't getting a V8 option.
SANIC
They might in 2017.
DesertStateInEu 2017?
Nigga, that's so far off we have no idea if it will happen
These things are so badass. Would absolutely kill to own one. For sure a future classic.
(usually cars get damaged by owners who don't maintain them properly , not those who just use them as they were intended ,so hopefully yours will last long ! )
Zac's shirt is awesome.
Weird Al is genius!
@bottomlayer the CTS-V sedan and wagon have normal door handles, the CTS-V coupe has the door buttons like the Corvette. My gf has a Stingray, and had a C6 before that, and we never had a problem with the door buttons, so I don't really have a problem with them.
I stayed up all night waiting for a smoking tire review
you can justify buying performance parts and enjoy driving b/c wagon space, corvette power, and will get respect from any enthusiast of motorsport
In California, is it illegal to cross double solids (safely) for passing purposes or no?
I know in some places where l live it's permissible.
No
Nick B In the US, you cannot overtake on a double yellow line.
TheSmokingTire Vermont permits passing on the double yellow line unless a signpost specifically prohibits it for a particular section.
***** Thats how it is in Ontario too. Yellow lines are considered suggested.
TheSmokingTire "Legally."
European here, I would love to have this over an m5, such a beast and it looks so good.
Really cool owner!
Arian Sarvi thanks :)
is it me or is this video WAAY better quality than the previous ones
Xaqtly you seem like such a nice guy, beautiful car man!
Nice ride Zach! I enjoy my -V wagon as well. :) Maybe Farah will take a ride in mine at the Virginia City Hillclimb this year.
Tremektus Thanks! WAGON BROS
fast wagons are awesome, still miss my 2004 Volvo V70R
Link in the description is incorrect.
2017 Truly the best cars for overall performance and luxury. If u want a ZO6 and you do not have plans on having that car on the track than you need to get the Cadillac. Really comes down to if your a person who will go a race the track or not.
1.E63 AMG
2.CTS-V
3.M5
I've got suede on mine too, I replaced my wheel for like $200, worth doing when they wear. Got to love GM/AC Delco prices via Amazon.
Great car with a genuinely excited owner. Perfect.
***** Matt's a good driver, and it's fun to ride shotgun in a car like the V wagon with a good driver driving it. I was genuinely having a good time.
That alcantra steering wheel is easy to clean. Use some rubbing alcohol on a chamois towel and some elbow grease, it will come back good as new.
I have seen these at the track. They are well respected for what they are. The 2016 CTS V is going to be even more impressive. A Z06 of Cadillacs. I have a 14 Shelby.
SCALECRAFT94 Yeah I agree - these are too heavy to be real sports cars, but they're set up extremely well from the factory given their weight.
The power is so Awesome in this car.. I have a Coupe AT and is such a great, fast, and QUITE car!!
they need more cars like this in the states, wish Audi would bring the RS4 Avant here, beautiful V-wagon, especially manual!
whats with the watch on the right hand in these one takes..? cant be because the camera is on that side, right?
I'm from Germany and I love this car. Not easy to find. Could you please tell me, which street you made this video? I'm planning a trip and looks great. Thanks
Hey Matt; Thanks for the videos, I'm jealous of what you do.
What's up with the motion enhanced camera? It sucks I hate it. Change it back plz, Matt
I feel like this is the first quite car on TheSmokingTire and it had 630 WHP CRAZY!
Looks amazing, wouldn't mind one of those to drive!
The best car on this channel yet. I would kill for one. Where does that guy love? Just kidding.
slk25724 I'm in Las Vegas, come on out :)
My 5.7 rt Magnum is still going strong with zero issues in 10 years and 250k miles.
Are there any Boss 302s on the schedule?? I would love to see and hear that!
Not gonna lie, this might be my top car too. Although I hear that the Chevy SS is just the Pontiac G8 (aka Holden) revived.
But the Cadi, sigh, so sexy.
Can anybody tell me why the camera looks weird in pretty much all the videos I watch these days plz
Fun to watch this one, Love the car, owner was cool. Thumbs up.
Cool video of an even cooler car!
I used to drive behind this car each day over to Henderson, NV. Kinda funny.
what do they mean by mag ride is it like the acura zdx active dampening system where the oil thickens or thins out with electrostatic charge? cause i dont think that technology is new i think they had that in the 1989 thunder bird sc
Lets Get Gnar Magneride was developed by GM, it uses metal filings in magnetorheological fluid so when it's exposed to a magnetic field it increases its viscosity. Its first use was in the Cadillac Seville STS.
Lets Get Gnar Oh actually I just looked it up and the Acura ZDX licenses magneride from GM.
That's how his car made 630 WHP. ua-cam.com/video/7nLeI1b42f4/v-deo.html
RIP Zak
A little off subject, but what is the brand of sunglasses that you wear in previous videos?
arctictiger1992 Dillon optics.
aquateen77723 Thanks :)
Well over here its not (Europe)
My BMW 330 E46 wagon got 160.000 miles on it.
But I do admit the last few years VW and Audi the build quality is going backwards. .
Patrick Carta
You still can make it so that people can't reply to your comments after you post a comment, I believe by hitting the edit button. That's why I asked if you did it on purpose :p
I know the option is also somewhere in your settings, and by default if you don't have a google plus account or whatever.
Exactly .. not all vehicle build quality is the same, especially in past years. So that's why 80k miles on one vehicle might be 'the same' as 120k on another.
What Camara is this???? Amazing
Was that a z3 coupe on his shirt?
I've got the Coupe version averaging 16 mpg with regular high speed canyon driving so gas gas mileage not as dire as indicated here, but then again, I'm not doing 180 mph on the salt flat
Prius at 8:50 :D
When are we going to get to see you one take an NSX in the canyons?
Michael Brown I don't have any on the schedule. Did a whole produced piece on the NSX on drive though.
TheSmokingTire is your fox body finished yet? I think I heard you reference driving it in a different video but if it is I would love to see a video on it!
Isaiah Ebben He did reference it in the Corvette video just a few days ago. I'm interested to see it now that it's at least drivable.
I'm a european car guy, specifically BMW(I own 2) yet I'd love one of these
That's a lot of power for those mods I might call bs that it's 630 at the wheels
140,000km+ on my 6 speed and I run it hard. true dream car
TheSmokingTire Ah I was curious too, was really hoping you'd get into the throttle. Oh well!
TheSmokingTire FUCK THAT CAR I WANNA SEE MORE YOUR MUSTANG ANY NEW UPDATE
🐃
Sadly, Zak is no longer with us. He passed away about 2 years ago after a battle with cancer. He was a fighter and kept his sense of humor right up until the end. He is missed.
Very sad to hear this, my condolences to the family
I actually bought the wagon from his wife when he passed
ISFs are typically cheaper, I've noticed.
He LOST MPG when he set up the headers?
that's the complete opposite of what should happen.
TheSmokingTire Matt where your foxbody?...i would love an update on it.
Did you use a different camera/lens? Quality looks different for some reason or maybe it's just me
ONLY EIGHT MORE DAYS TIL ONE TAKES ARE BACK HAPPY HANNUKAH N MERRY VACATION MATT U INSPIRED ME TO BUY A SQUEGG
Riley Hughes what?
Love wagons! Sick car
Always loved the V Wagons, and they sooo need to be revived! That said, there's certain body parts I would trade for a black manual version =)
+CMDR Boom Yeah I originally wanted a black one, couldn't find it so I got this white one instead. But I've grown to like it after blacking out the front grilles and the badges.
Fast wagons are just the best.
Hey Matt what did you do to the video? It looks great!
Camera quality is great on this weeks videos did u change something ??
60fps
Matt, this seems to be somewhat similar to the hellcat in power and weight. How do you feel the two compare?
