An isolation fault usually means a short from the high voltage battery pack to ground - there will be a ground fault monitoring device connected to chassis ground and also shadowing the battery pack. If it detects HV on the chassis it will open an isolation contactor, disconnecting the high voltage battery
And moisture ingress from flooding is a VERY common failure mode for isolation faults. If the packaging holding the battery cells becomes damp, the resistance between the HV connections and the car body gets lower. Disassemble the pack, dry it out, and re-test the isolation with something like a Megger. Having HV leakage to the body can be dangerous.
Seeing you guys goof the possitive and ground makes me feel a bit better about my recent mistake. I used an RV battery to start my truck and the terminals were reversed and I didn't notice until I had blown a bunch of fuses and some other non critical electronics.

Please Chris be very careful with the high voltage isolation fault car. I design battery management systems (where that fault is coming from) for a living and that fault means that the high voltage and low voltage systems are not properly isolated from each other and you could get shocked with high voltage simply by touching the chassis and the low voltage components.
@V A I'm sure it won't be necessary. I'm not pretending I could have designed the car better. Maybe they just didn't have protection from submersion (floods) as a design goal. Now my question is, is there a short caused by a bridge from damage or from water still being there? Supposedly there's stuff that could be sprayed on to exposed electrical components so water can't do any such thing.
Low battery isolation is due to moisture in the main pack, and is not limited to a single module. You may be able to open the pack and dry it out, if there isn’t too much water inside.
Rich Rebuilds basically just built a large dessicant box for an Audi eTron and filled it with rice and seems to have done something. Maybe build wrap the car in a huge bag and get something to suck moisture out - or giant buckets of damp rid and a vacuum air pressure.
I think the reasons for the high prices are pretty clear: The car market is way too hot anyway and all the attention auctions got through social media drew a lot of new buyers there.

Chris, I have 2 KTM motorcycles and what I have learned dealing with them is that some vehicles are worth more as parts than they are as a whole. It is not hard to find used KTM parts but it is hard to find good used KTM motorcycles. Teslas may well be the same way. As you go through these cars you might want to check on what prices parts are bringing as it may well be worth parting these cars, keeping what you need and selling off the parts online. Just something to consider. Since you are looking to harvest parts you already know all about the inverters to use to put these motors in other cars. Take it from a marine engineer: Any electrical component that has been exposed to saltwater will fail. It's not about IF, it's a matter of when. Coastal flooding includes storm surges and unless you can prove otherwise, you have to accept this is saltwater. From battery packs to wiring harnesses to motors, these vehicles are future accidents waiting to happen. Body panels and soft goods might be worth something (if not damaged). Everything else is a future danger. It MIGHT look fine, might seam fine today, tomorrow it will be junk, that could hurt or kill someone.
That is a great journey that you have got into. Yes, this is best future smart move anyone can make. I am sure you will forget legacy autos because Teslas are a class apart and yes, they appreciate, not deprecate, in value as they age!
Im happy that you jumped in EV stuff. Its completely different best with different problems, but you dont care you just dive in it head first as usual. 👍🤙😉

The Internet says if they were flooded then they would’ve caught on fire. They don’t look very toasty.
Hi Chris! Have you heard that Eleanor is no longer copyrighted? Perhapse you can reclaim your car?
Sorry to disappoint, but you don’t have a full self driving option.
There would be way more options to choose from in the menu under autopilot.
In Australia we don’t call it a Frunk, we call it a Froot😎
That model 3 does not have the FSD package (the $15k add-on you mention). Only standard autopilot which comes standard.
Had three Tesla, good I love those cars.
The dangerous thing with them is that you start to question all the other cars you got.
Auuch - the massive pricecuts from Tesla just made the 'good buy Model 3' less good 😞But hey, you are going to make some great content. Looking forward to follow this build series
Uncle Rich probably knows exactly what's wrong with all of them and how to fix them, the guy is a wizard.
So excited to see a channel getting more into ev builds - we need it!!
Bentley, Teslas: new channel name, F is for Flood!
I can't wait for the next video, I love watching these kinds of videos, they're rare to find
Very brave taking this on. Good luck.
May want to try a bench top power supply which is controllable and visible in terms of amps.
Im happy that you jumped in EV stuff. Its completely different best with different problems, but you dont care you just dive in it head first as usual. 👍🤙😉
I love your channel, but this has made you #1 YT channel in my book! Best content ever keep them coming please.
For sure looking forward to the DeLorean EV work.
You should invest in a high amperage 12V battery charger, and some tenders. 2:50
It was so wholesome how the episode ended and then seeing the restaurant was closed was like someone threw me a bucket of cold watermelon
That's the worst mistake you can make on the electric car putting the terminals back
V8 swapping the last one and adding turbos like the Lamborghini's or adding a supercharger to it would be so insane 🤯🤯🤯
Love the channel. Ev is going to be short lived to much power consumption can't wait for your next build really love the mustang build
Full Self Driving Computer doesnt mean you have the expensive FSD package. Auto Pilot is also not FSD, its like adaptive cruise control that steers for you as long as there's weight on the steering wheel (hand). It also wont lane change, summon or any of that. Just slow down, stop and go. 34k for a salvaged-running 2021 MP3 is priced fair wo FSD.
