    If you want to take it over 35 before the body swap, cut some plexiglass and bolt it on the frame behind the dash as a wind deflector, that bit of wind being thrown upwards will deflect the rest over your head. And also the state-of-charge on the original 3.8 run was low compared to it being nearly full this time, so last time it had less voltage and thus less horsepower, so it being a whole second faster was both it being far lighter now but also having a much higher charge level and somewhat higher battery voltage and thus more horsepower. The removal of the body would've had a big effect anyways though, perhaps 3 to 5 tenths I'd guess.

    I'm willing to bet that a decent portion of the 0-60 time improvement was due to the battery charge. The first 0-60 run was done with what looks like 40% or so battery charge, and the second run looked like it was at least 80% battery charge. The overall battery charge makes quite a big difference on the power output capability of the battery.

      That's only really true at low temperatures. The Model 3 in NCA and LFP chemistry is about equally fast down to 30% SoC as long as it's not freezing outside, then performance is impacted. For LFP it can get really bad.

    Sport Compact Car magazine did something similar to a early 00s Sentra. But they removed parts, then did a run down the drag strip. After that they remove more and did another ru. Kept going until it was in a similar state. IIRC, they took a 16 second car and made it a 14 or 13 second car by removing weight. The article is out there in the aether of the internet, just have to Google it.

    I work at a tesla authorized bodyshop and I just replaced a rr quarter panel. Just for future reference it does not like you unplugging the larger connector of the two that are in the rr inner fender well. If you do have to disconnect make sure you unplug the 12v system. When that plug is disconnected she will shut down the hv system and drain the 12v battery.

    I'm sure everyone has commented about this already, but in your stock 0-60 run, the car appears to be well under 50% charge. That will have a pretty significant impact on your acceleration in a Model 3.

    NOW, DO THIS to a Tesla model S plaid! Like if if you want him to do it for our entertainment!

    • @pfistor
      @pfistor Рік тому

      Maybe if he could find a wrecked one, but it's a 130-150,000 dollar car. Also on a prepped track the plaid launches to 60 mph at just under 2 seconds at 1.98, I doubt there would be any improvement, the body is ultra lightweight already because the Plaid is a much more high performance oriented vehicle. With a potential for a 200 mph top speed after a software update, the launch max speed was 160, if you spoil the aero I think the car will just be made worse in every way I don't think it has the bulky extra weight the model 3 has. And with 1,000 hp it's not noticing the weight as much as the model 3, and having less weight may just mean less grip for all that power. At certain points in the launch it is pulling more than 1g which seems almost impossible so the room for improvement is absolutely razor thin. And if you added a roll cage it would probably weigh more than the removed parts.

    I love that in America you can do whatever you want with cars. In the UK, you would have been pulled over and probably had it impounded and fined and have to go to court and get 6 points minimum (for reference 12 points and you lose your license for 6 months)

Either way- I would be very interested to see the results if this were done to a plaid that can already run a 1.9 - 2.2 sec 0-60 :))

    Yeah given that the 0 to 60 is almost entirely dependent on power to weight ratio (assuming there isn't a traction problem) removing a ton of weight is going to make a big difference.
