If you want to take it over 35 before the body swap, cut some plexiglass and bolt it on the frame behind the dash as a wind deflector, that bit of wind being thrown upwards will deflect the rest over your head. And also the state-of-charge on the original 3.8 run was low compared to it being nearly full this time, so last time it had less voltage and thus less horsepower, so it being a whole second faster was both it being far lighter now but also having a much higher charge level and somewhat higher battery voltage and thus more horsepower. The removal of the body would've had a big effect anyways though, perhaps 3 to 5 tenths I'd guess.
The state of charge of the batter affects the 0-60, that may be why you got a whole second difference. Battery looked low in your 0-60 when the car was whole.
love that you are doing this, I was planning to do the same as I want to transport as much of the guts of a Copart bought tesla wreck into a 74 BMW 2002 as possible.

This. The SoC looked like 30% or less in the first run, and that will give you drastically slower times. Still, taking the stock 3.1 (with 1 ft roll-out) down to 2.8 without a roll-out is a nice improvement.

I'm willing to bet that a decent portion of the 0-60 time improvement was due to the battery charge. The first 0-60 run was done with what looks like 40% or so battery charge, and the second run looked like it was at least 80% battery charge. The overall battery charge makes quite a big difference on the power output capability of the battery.
That's only really true at low temperatures. The Model 3 in NCA and LFP chemistry is about equally fast down to 30% SoC as long as it's not freezing outside, then performance is impacted. For LFP it can get really bad.

Fun fact, an early 2000s Buick Park Avenue has a wheelbase and track width that are only half an inch longer and wider than a Model3 We definitely need to see a 20 year old Buick body on this thing to make the ultimate sleeper
The cars, power and speed is limited by the computer. The motors are capable of a lot more. My model three with all the passengers is just as fast with me driving it alone.
I love that in America you can do whatever you want with cars. In the UK, you would have been pulled over and probably had it impounded and fined and have to go to court and get 6 points minimum (for reference 12 points and you lose your license for 6 months)
This is awesome! I run 3.26- 3.3 sec on my 2022 and 2023 m3p compared to your 3.8 (I have no idea how) It may be something to do with the year of your car or if you have multiple cells out on your car. Either way- I would be very interested to see the results if this were done to a plaid that can already run a 1.9 - 2.2 sec 0-60 :))
You could also try using the Ingenext Module which you plug into the MCU (underneath the glovebox and covered in trim) to get an even bigger performance boost. The only downside though, is that it costs $2000 USD.

I guarantee you that's what the boosted boiz are gonna do with their salvage plaid!
I love that the sponsor is all about detailing the "body" and you just took yours completely off :)
I hope you're putting the delorian on this. It's gonna be sweet.
Makes sense. All aluminum.
Your new shop is less than 5 min from me! Good to have you in the neighborhood.
I REALLY hope that you disconnected the safety link before doing ANY work on the car.
Great to see you're wearing the seatbelt. Safety first.
I bet Elon and lots of Tesla engineers are keeping an eye on this build! Can't wait to see what you'll wrap around the skateboard.
nah
A masterpiece of engineering. This is why Tesla is LIGHTYEARS ahead of any competition!
I remember seeing toy cars in this state as a kid and thinking they looked cool like that.
because theys do :)
Hi Chris, if you haven't completed the epoxy floor in your garage yet, I have a high quality product from Switzerland that would make your garage look like a millions bucks! Please let me know! Thanks, Maks
What if you put a cool bkdy on top of it like an e46
I am so glad your healthy is good. You look chipper.. All the best we here for you and the crew.. Hat's off.
Well there goes the famous Tesla 5 star/perfect safety rating.
😂 😮😂
Fun fact, an early 2000s Buick Park Avenue has a wheelbase and track width that are only half an inch longer and wider than a Model3
We definitely need to see a 20 year old Buick body on this thing to make the ultimate sleeper
I’m surprised how rigid the chassis is considering
I'm surprised you can tell the rigidity from of the video of the car going straight on a flat road
A rebuilt tesla by you!? With a story and build video to boot. That would be Amazing!!
The cars, power and speed is limited by the computer. The motors are capable of a lot more. My model three with all the passengers is just as fast with me driving it alone.
Yes i would love to see what those motors can really do
Honda owners:
20:17 you gotta remember they take away about .3 seconds off the time for roll out. So on a prep track it was probably 3.5 0-60 originally
It can do 3.4s 0-62 without rollout.
Yes send working on this in the background of the truck bid
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TY
I see you painted the over lander black. Looks pretty cool.
20:14 how fully charged the battery is would make more of a difference than the weight reduction, I think
15:20 i laughed so hard hearing this 😂
That metal part on the glass you took off the b pillar is where you hold the keycard to unlock/lock it
I love folks who do something simply because it would be awesome to do!
That's the first thing I asked myself when I got my Model 3, "I wonder how I can cut the whole body off?" 🤔
I’m loving the deadpan intro Chris 😂 I for one, would love a giveaway Tesla. Stay awesome my friend. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
Initially I thought you were crazy, but..I start feeling a surge of respect !!!
Get Brooks from dragtimes to fly out and get a quarter mile run before you put the body on
You could also try using the Ingenext Module which you plug into the MCU (underneath the glovebox and covered in trim) to get an even bigger performance boost. The only downside though, is that it costs $2000 USD.
I’ve been loving the intros to this series. Hilarious!
Hey there, welcome to Australia mate, good things coming through . Love to have a Tesla in my garage.
Hi Chris🤩
My deeam (not to be fulfilled) is to merge a Tesla Model 3 underbody to a Citroën DS ('69-'75) and incorporate all the new tech into the body. I did some measurements and found out that with a little lengthening of the wheelbase it is doable 🤘
Maybe you & the guys can fullfill my dream?
Greetings from long lasting viewer from Norway - Truls
I think a giveaway Tesla is a great idea! I would definitely buy merch to support that giveaway.
its impossible looking at my location but any electric car for that matter would be a blessing for us. im a disabled mechanic due to the dissability on a small income. my kids live bout 150 kilometres away with my ex. it would enable me to see them. electric vehicles overhere are not affordable prices are sky high mainly only available throuh a longterm loan..a big one!! and im not exactly qualified for even getting such a big loan so🤭😂 i hope some lucky person will get the wrecked tesla rebuild youve planned. ill be on the lookout for the rebuild tho 🤓👍 thankyou for charing this
Yeah given that the 0 to 60 is almost entirely dependent on power to weight ratio (assuming there isn't a traction problem) removing a ton of weight is going to make a big difference.
