There needs to be a whole bunch of Electrified Garages to service these out-of-warranty Tesla cars. Saving a battery pack is a game changer, plus all the recommended maintenance is good information. The garage certainly knows what the weak points are and what to check.
Not happening. Fantasy. People aren’t going to plop down $20k plus on an old car. They will use the $20k to buy new or barely used. Few have cash to burn like that. Besides, it’s just dumb anyway. You wouldn’t do it. Admit it.

17k for a facelifted Model S with AP 2.0 hardware is amazing deal! I has 2015 with AP1 hardware for 40K in 2018 with Certified Pre-owned warranty from Tesla, but I didn't have newest AP hardware or newer processor. It was fun to drive and had free supercharging, but only 220 miles of range if I was lucky. Took it all around the state and country for free and sold it two years later to dealership for the same price as I bought it for because they didn't check Autocheck where it showed minor accident before I bought it! 🤷🏽♂️ Sold it because it was fun for a while but then it actually got boring to drive. Plus I didn't feel like paying Tesla tax for parts and when a door handle is $1000 to replace, you know there was about to be some pricey repairs once it was out of warranty
I had a '14 S85 and exchanged it for a '18 Model 3 dual motor (with acceleration boost). the 3 is faster but I miss the comfort of the S. @@RDL_Jamaican Tesla charges around $20,000USD for a battery replacement here in the states. I do remember hearing Hyundai charging $60,000CAD for a battery replacement. But regarding the Tesla battery, the entire battery is a bunch of Tesla 18650s wired together in packs to combine as a single powersource. Louis Rossmann a whole back calculated out how much the battery cost was based off of how much a single Tesla 18650 was and it came out roughly to $20,000 just in 18650s. Now there are independent shops that are offering lower cost solutions for repair like replacing the bad cells. Electrified Garage does this and I want to say it was around $5,000-$7,000USD. As for the free charging, I think the only sustainable way of doing that would be to somehow calculate the price of charging over the life of the vehicle and incorporate that into the price of the vehicle. With used EV prices dropping like rocks, it makes them a pretty good buy, since even a vehicle with 50k miles on it still has 50-80k miles of warranty left on the battery and motors. In this instance though, he only has about 2 years left unfortunately.
That's a steal. Very good deal. After 2 years the battery will reach 8 years where there will be some decoration. Tesla gives 8 years battery warranty (less than 30% decoration) or 100k miles whichever comes first. So if I were you I would check the battery first while the warranty is still there. If the battery gives problems in the future, then I would recommend that you spend 12K to get a brand new battery installed which will extend its life by another 10 years since the new battery technology lasts much longer. Since the motor is brushless, it will last a very long time given you don't get into a bad accident.
Strange comment about regen braking eating up the tires. Regen braking is just braking by another name, it doesn't eat up the tires any more than normal braking would.
12:16 -- I'm curious how exactly regen braking "beats up the tires a lot" ? Sounds like bull to me... deceleration is deceleration whether from regen braking, hydraulic brakes, or compression braking (e.g., letting off the gas/downshifting in an ICE car).

Another Tesla driver here, and I also want to thank Tavarish for advising people to not be inattentive while using any of Tesla's driver assist modes. There used to be 3 driver assist modes. Autopilot the basic mode which comes with every Tesla as a standard option is adaptive cruise control while also maintaining travel in your current lane of travel with autosteer--it really is amazing, and designed for use on highways only. Highway only as it will not stop for stop signs or traffic light controls. It also will not change lanes on its own, or obey a command by the driver using the turn signal to indicate what the driver wants the car to do. But once you pick a lane, and turn on Autopilot it is a beautiful thing, albeit the most limited mode--but totally free! They had an enhanced mode that did change lanes and did obey traffic controls, but wouldn't get you from point A to point B using navigation. It would just drive down the road you were on. Enhanced seems have been eliminated. Not providing enough added benefit for the cost, considering how good FSD is today, which is now available as a $99 monthly subscription. Enhanced is still around, on older vehicles where it was purchased outright, but doesn't seem to be an option for new purchases. Then there is the Supervised full self driving option. With hands on the wheel and staying attentive the car will take you anywhere you want to go, on pretty much any road. It still has some issues, like going faster than you want and going slower than you want. It can get stumped on how to get our of a parking lot, or whether a bus lane is really a travel lane, but that's where the human driver plays a pivotal role. FSD let's you relax in say bumper to bumper traffic, or moving out of the fast lane when a faster driver comes up behind you, or moving to passing lane when the car in front of you is going to slow. It will get you in the correct lane to exit, it will navigate city streets, avoid most obstacles, yield to pedestrians and anything else a driver should be doing. But sometimes it makes mistakes, misinterprets just like humans, and that's where the attentive driver overrides the system. Sometimes it is as simple as just pressing the accelerator pedal a little bit because the car is being too cautious and has slowed down too much, sometimes you need to take over an steer the car into or out of the lane it has chosen, or maybe it is taking the turn to tight and will scrape the curve. But overall, it is a excellent copilot, many times seeing things before you do, like pedestrians dressed in black against a background of a black lamp post just before they step on to the crowsswalk. FSD is good, most human drivers are okay to good, together FSD and the human driver are better. But you cannot and should not start using your phone, watching a video, or do any other activity that will result in you being inattentive. You are responsible ultimately, FSD is simply an assistive mode, like the cruise control we have used for years, it does not relieve you of your responsibility as a driver.
The first autopilot was used in 1912 and is not defined as fully autonomous... Side note: are human drivers fully autonomous if they make errors while driving?😒
also… when the guy says regen wears your tires out… what do you think pressing the brakes does? Do brakes work without using the tires? Unsure how the vehicle is stopping if that’s the case… Regen doesn’t wear the tires out any more than braking does. Do you know what braking wears out that regen doesn’t? Brakes…
12:18 the second time ive heard this argument, regen braking is bad for the tires. Lol, braking is braking. Maybe it effects a little because of the rate of deceleration as opposed to cruising to a stop, but tires wear based on the driver mostly
Yeah the physics don't hold up for that argument. Whether the torque is coming from the break disk or the motor shaft won't make a difference. The worst thing for tire wear would be hard braking, which generally regen wouldn't be doing at all...
I am glad i wasn't the only one thinking this. Maybe we are completely missing something but it shouldn't matter if motor is providing the resistance or of the break pads are providing the resistance. But from my understanding EVs do burn though tires. But I believe it is the weight of the car that burns up the tires not the regen breaks.
It wasn't Hertz, it was speculation during the pandemic, which created a bubble which was bound to crash eventually. The market today is just a normal car market.
In Britain a high carrying capacity hatch-back is my best option. So I really like Rex's new wheels. I found that Insurance for Tesla is often quite expensive, Is that also a problem in America? The Frunk is great for quick shopping trips, it keeps the massive trunk space free for shoes.

@@jruerph Is this your personal opinion or based on some statistics? Reports collected from owners show that the Tesla battery degrades about 1% a year and even a 10 year old has 90% of the capacity. In the US, the battery should last 200k and this car has only about 55k. I don’t think a catastrophic battery failure is more likely than a complete loss of an ICE. If you accelerate and regen-brake the same way you would with an ICEV, the amount of tire wear should be almost exactly the same if you weigh the ICEV down to get similar total weight and weight distribution. It isn't the regen that is wearing tire down, it is the torque (my mother is the only EV driver I know who doesn't have a lead foot on initial acceleration - though she used to have a lead foot too in her younger years) and weight. While you can get your battery refurbished instead of paying stupid prices for a new one, you have no definitive way of knowing how long the refurb will last until the next cell goes bad. IMO, there needs to be modular battery pack standards so batteries can be replaced or upgraded one off-the-shelf module at a time.

Sold it because it was fun for a while but then it actually got boring to drive.
Main reason I sold the S is because of it's motor configuration it wouldn't 1-pedal drive which is something I really wanted. Sold that S 2 years ago for $35k which is what I paid for it. Don't ask what the used 3 cost :(

Another TESLA BOT
Fredy keep it up super fun and instructive video!!! greetings from Croatia
Croatia, yes. You guys have some really chubby lezbos over there.
Get those rear bushes changed and get those shoes out of the boot! I am happy for Rex. He deserves the love. ENJOY MY FRIEND!
Great buy, Rex! Hope it continues to treat you well and give you many trouble-free miles!
The first autopilot was used in 1912 and is not defined as fully autonomous... Side note: are human drivers fully autonomous if they make errors while driving?😒
Loving the P1 build bro❤
I like how Freddy is worried about his friend using the "self driving tech". Good call!
also… when the guy says regen wears your tires out… what do you think pressing the brakes does? Do brakes work without using the tires? Unsure how the vehicle is stopping if that’s the case… Regen doesn’t wear the tires out any more than braking does. Do you know what braking wears out that regen doesn’t? Brakes…
I love how Rex doesn’t realise how wide the camera capture is and he keeps leaning in thinking he’s cut out of the shot 😂
No ugly truth here! This thing is super mint and a great deal.
Lame clickbait title, but good video
Due to Hertz over flooding the ev used car market, every ev car value has depreciated drastically!
Shoes L😂L
Insurance rates are way too personal and customized to set a rule. All depends on your age, driving history, credit score, state you live in, your home, and 1000x other factors...
The Hillbilly Edition badge is so sick!! You know that whoever owned it doesn’t take themselves seriously and that’s cool.
That Tesla for $17 grand with less than 60k miles is a really good deal
Until you need a $17k replacement battery. They fail due to age moreso than mileage.
@@jruerph he addressed that at the end of he video
@@jruerph Is this your personal opinion or based on some statistics? Reports collected from owners show that the Tesla battery degrades about 1% a year and even a 10 year old has 90% of the capacity. In the US, the battery should last 200k and this car has only about 55k. I don’t think a catastrophic battery failure is more likely than a complete loss of an ICE. Furthermore, Tavarish said that there are companies that fix the batteries and it only costs a few grand. Would you replace your ICE when you have a broken oil pump, or just get it replaced?
@@jruerph you're just spreading FUD and disinformation here
How many times have you replaced your cell phone battery?
Freddy you’ve been to the uk quite a few times. Have you tried to explain how much fuel costs in the uk compared to the states. We pay $10 dollars a gallon.
Yeah but you have health care. Even if you pay for it over here the care is subpar unless you can afford the super expensive stuff.
a good part of that is you guys getting @$$ r@p3d in taxes, at this current moment taxes are literally HALF of your fuel price according to a website I found that tracks percentage of pump price that is taxes (at one point you guys where almost 75% taxes a few years back), where by comparison in the US the highest state tax is 57.6 cents per gallon and the lowest state is 9 cents per gallon and then the federal is 18.4 cents per gallon, so even in the worst state taxes are only like 21% of the fuel price. Then you have the whole War thing going on and that pipeline that got blown up causing your prices to sky rocket, provided that was how the UK got oil, I don't know on that part, but yeah you guys get really screwed on taxes over there.
@@DanielRichards644 Dont come to France if you think taxes are high in the UK lol, here it's like 2€ a liter of SP98 (your 93 i think), and in these 2€ it's like 65/70% is taxes :D
@@DanielRichards644 yes we do. Never been 75% tax on top we might of actually done something but very doubtful we just lay down and take it. £1.55 a litre and 75p ish goes to tax.
@@rubenrosales725 it’s not free we all have to pay for it and 20 30 years ago it was great. Not so great anymore. Waiting 8 month for chemotherapy 2 years for a basic operation. The last 14 years of are government have destroyed this country in every way and we get over charged for everything not just in taxes.
I really like the fact that this mechanic knows that even with mainstream media talks about Teslas, it's actually not what people think. I like that he covered the fact that if it were a gas car it would have been much worse vs an EV. A lot of people think EV's are more dangerous, when in reality it's not. I'm not a hater of gas by an means, I just like data and facts.
EV’s are worse than ICE cars in every single comparison, except maybe 0 - 60mph, even then, that’s debatable.
Probably why no one wants to invest, sales are tanking, lay offs in the EV industry are happening and then “bubble” has burst.
There’s a place for EV cars, but it’s a small place.
@@thomjanson9644 you are a perfect example of the victim of misinformation.
EVs have -
lower fuel cost per mile
lower routine maintenance costs
higher acceleration
lower emissions
lower lifetime emissions including manufacturing
quieter
can be refueled at home
@@thomjanson9644 maybe better 0-60... debatable??? Debatable in what universe?
90% of production ICE vehicles post 0-60 times slower than 6 sec while 90% of production EVs post 0-60 times faster than 6 sec. It's not even remotely close. Who in their right mind would consider that debatable? 😂
When's the last time you fueled up your ICE at home while sleeping for half the cost per mile range compared to pump price? That's not even considering those of us with solar who essentially have fuel cost zeroed.
Great deal. I payed$67K for my 2017 two years ago with 15k miles on it. You can adjust steering, just go into controls and select steering. Enjoy it and here in Ca premium gas is $6+/gallon
I wish gasoline was only 6 dollars per gallon in Finland =)
It’s insanity how much of an upgrade the new ones are… even this dude talking about the suspension… i went in to test drive the model 3 2024/25… the suspension is literally like floating above the road…. Its amazing
I'm a car guy, and I don't mind the idea of electric. But I HATE the interior tech/giant screen/driving a rolling iPad. I'd rather have something like a '55 Cadillac with the drivetrain from a Plaid or a Lucid.
No airbags, skewered on the steering wheel, lethal in any crash?
@@NickWainwright6970 Yeah old classic cars are dangerous. A couple weeks ago there was someone hit at fairly low speed in an old mustang and had a lot of bad injuries that made the news. On the other hand steering wheel air bags cause a lot of life changing injuries. I think they should be redesigned. People should educate themselves on where to sit in relation to the steering wheel and what not to wear to minimize airbag injury. In my accident the air bags didn't even go off and I had whiplash, pulled muscles in my neck, joint damage and dislocated thumb.
i don’t get why anyone would have such strong feelings about something like that. just don’t buy one.
Am from edmonton origin of mauritius well watching ur video feel greats as me also like cars hope one can visit ur garage stay bless continue to progress making
@12:20 - Regenerative braking wears tires.
As opposed to what, regular braking, really how???
yeah, the math ain't mathin' on that...
Yeah, I don't think the tires care (or even know)
It's not the regenerative braking that wears the tires
It's actually the tires material that is not good enough to handle a car with this weight
I’d say that’s a screaming deal. Just bought a 2018 S 100D with 40k miles AND FSD for close to 30k
Best color. All Teslas look better in red. Old style Teslas look great with the silver trim too.
I love the hatch area compared to a model 3’s trunk. The frunk is cavernous too.
I love hearing the mechanic talk about how the floor pan and suspension is engineered.
I actually love the "Underglow to indicate self-driving is active" idea!!
Rex is 🐐ed
Driving an EV is like Dancing to no music.
