      Isn't it amazing the gifts that nature has given us? Even more incredible is how often people will choose to betray their instincts, instead believing that they are being foolish by 'over-worrying', all the meanwhile searching for answers from technology, instead of listening to the voice within. - Jack

      @@fightscience I've also noticed that looking people dead in the eye renders them almost incapable of deceiving you and I think it often makes them change their mind if they had ill intentions towards you. But I always look for the safest place in an aria where I can see the most people from and I look them all in the eye. Keep relaxed and alert. You can't pay FULL attention to your environment if you're tense or worried. There are studies from the Herat Science Institute that have measured the Emotional Intelligence (there are literally neurons in the heart), aka gut instinct, when one is at peace is easier to recognize what this intelligence is saying. There is a magnetic field that spreads out several feet from the heart that interacts with other fields - those of you who are familiar with Chi-Kung/Qu Gong meditation exercises may have heard this - it is through this interaction that one can "read" another person intent. There are also the social queues, is the guy fidgety, the look in the eyes as well as condition (is he high or drunk), the tone of voice (maybe he's whispering trying to get you to come closer, or maybe shaky/nervous from the adrenaline rush). I am a people watcher by nature so I had a chance to refine all of these for myself, plus the unpleasant experience of being held up at gunpoint on a few occasions, it was through these experiences that I can now recognize my own "spidey sense" and trust it.
    🙏 Successful Training to everyone here. 🙏

    Situational awareness, presense of mind, quick physical reactions or reflexes, mental strength or toughness, composure, self-confidence, resourcefulness, the will or the instinct to fight back and defend yourself, and your self-defense skills and techniques that you've spent long periods of time practicing and training, can drastically increase your chances of surviving possibly violent encounters or self-defense situations. One more important thing, always trust in your instinct or intuition.

It's both a use of force and a tactic for instilling shock and basically paralysing someone of someones into in-action. Like a guy surrounded getting knocked down to be stomped to death. As someone who suffers from an anxiety disorder, this can actually be quite difficult at times. See, I get this kind of gut feeling that something's wrong and I'm in danger basically at all times around people, even people I've known most of my life, so it can be a real challenge to try to separate what I'm experiencing as a result of the mental illness vs what is a genuine gut feeling I should heed. What helps is to try to rely more on thinking than feeling. I'm by default suspicious of all people at all times, so if I'm approached, it's helpful to think about the context like you were saying, like why would this person be approaching me right now, does that makes sense, where am I, etc.
    I had a really strange experience some time ago where I was out walking around my neighborhood around say 3am or so, it's something I often do when I'm feeling restless or anxious, gets energy out and the cool night air can help with anxiety. But this one time, I see this guy walking on the block ahead of me as a I pass an intersection, I notice that he's got a very abnormal stride, kind of drunk-looking, and I decide to turn around and take another route, but about 5 seconds after I've turned away to take another path at the intersection, I turn my head and realize he's right on me, moving up and standing just feet away, asking me what I'm doing, clearly either very drunk or very high. I'm at this point fearing for my life, as I know for a fact I can't defend myself effectively, so I'm trying to decide if I should stand and try to defuse the situation or turn and run, possibly inciting him to chase me. I make sure to remain facing him and slowly back up as I tell him I'm just out for a stroll and don't want any trouble, but he continues staying very close as I try to back away, being very insistent.
    And it was right at that very moment that some police drive by and notice the situation, so they stop and get out, then proceed to tell him to sit down on the curb. The drunk guy starts vehemently insisting to the cops that we know each other and that we're just hanging out, which I of course deny because I had never seen the man in my life. They ask me a couple questions, basically asking if he touched me or tried to take anything from me, I told them no, gave my name and address, and they sent me on my way.
    I was actually afraid to so much as leave my house at night for maybe a month after all that. But part of me wonders if he really was just really high and didn't have a good sense of personal space, like perhaps he didn't mean me any harm. Though if he did, I got very lucky with the police showing up when they did.

    I was driving the family at night on the interstate and stopped for gas. While fueling I went around the back of the gas station to the restroom. It was dreary and three young men were about 30 feet from the bathroom door talking. Made me nervous. My response was to turn around and go back to car but I had my 9mm on me so I grasped it, went and did my business, opened the door slowly to leave, gun in hand and they were still minding their own business so I was fine and left. Had I not had the firearm, I would have immediately returned to the car.

      So basically what you’re saying is your gut instinct was completely wrong and nothing happened whatsoever other than you took a whiz. Cool story. Good job one of the guys didn’t want to use the rest room after you and was waiting outside for you to finish. If you really felt they were a threat you should have avoided them in the first place not felt brave because you had a gun. So what would you have done if they had approached you? Shot one or all of them? Still you got to feel like Dirty Harry for a bit, definitely one to tell the grandchildren.

      He was prepared for a possible altercation in which he would've been outnumbered. He reacted appropriately. He didn't flash or present his firearm. He simply positioned himself to draw his weapon if necessary. Given the location and it being dark outside,he was smart in his action.

    • @slippery999
      @slippery999 3 роки тому +1

      @@brandonterrazas9079 oh dear. Read it again. He recognised the threat and could have simply avoided it. He says himself if he hadn’t had the gun he would have immediately returned to the car. He felt brave because he had a gun and deliberately placed himself in a dangerous situation. You say he didn’t flash his gun - read it again. He “grasped” his gun when he walked to the restroom then clearly states he opened the door “gun in hand”. My whole point was he needlessly put himself and potentially others in danger purely because he had a gun. The gun should be a last resort in defence of himself or others when there is no other option. He had a better option to leave when he first saw the 3 guys and not put himself on offer. He couldn’t be more explicit: he did what he did because he had a gun. As you point out it was dark (not sure what he means by dreary), he was outnumbered. He saw three but there could have been others he hadn’t seen (plus one rule) he went into the restroom losing the tactical advantage (limited space, no other exits, easily ambushed). What if they all had guns too? Is he good enough to drop all 3 especially if he was ambushed coming out? Would he be able to kill if needs be? And live with the consequences? As Mike Tyson said; “Everyone has a plan ‘till they get punched in the face.” I would suggest just “having a gun” is not a plan. If anyone thinks carrying a gun solves all their problems then they’re going to have a very rude awakening. Stay safe.

    Gut instinct or intuition has always been an interesting subject to me, but never 100% clear. For instance, I've met people who are scared very fast and going with their gut instinct they'd avoid almost any and every place and person they go to. It's safe, but it can be up to the point of paranoia. Ask your local bouncer or experienced police officer or whatever and their gut instinct will be different. Because their gut instinct will have a large base of experience to draw from. It's a balance between the two I think. But in most of the cases, better safe than sorry.

    • @CorneliusFractogram
      @CorneliusFractogram 2 роки тому

      Very good points and you're absolutely right; it's *not* clear. And your intuition isn't always right. Some people are also very skilled specifically at invoking trust or positive emotions in you, and to pick up on that your intuition has to be on a meta level above "gut feeling". The gist of the matter is the success rate of your intuition correlates with how well you know yourself, how much experience you have (i.e. how well you know people on general level), and how much you learn from those experiences and integrate them into your knowledgebase. You can have great senses and perception and be a fast learner, but not much experience, and still be wiser than someone with lots of experience but without a concept for what they've experienced. The latter person's gut feeling may be strong and they're confident it's always correct, when in fact it's only correct 4 out of 5 times, while they're completely blind to the nuances to pick up on that last 1/5. The thing is, 4/5 is as good as 100% to them and you can get through life without ever having to learn how little you knew. You see these types at the bottom of the pyramid in more or less organized crime.

    Our instincts are there for a reason and are the reason we've survived as a species, avoiding situations that other animals would enter.
    The problem is that people now ignore or totally deny their instinctive reactions to situations because they don't want to appear "rude" or think that bad things can happen in the more "sophisticated" levels of our society.
    If more people would "listen to their gut" a lot fewer people would end up victims of everything from robbery to assault to rape.
    "I should have known better..." I had a feeling but I ignored it..." are the common responses when people are interviewed by the police (and their friends) after a crime, violent act, etc..
    Don't ignore your surroundings, get your head out of your phone when you're moving through public spaces.
    Elevators, busses/trains, city streets, parks, parking lots, even public restrooms... All are prime spots for predators who are just waiting for unaware, unsuspecting people to come wandering by. Someone asks you what time it is, it's to put you off guard and visually distracted. What you *should* do is immediately give a quick look over your shoulder to see who's moved into your blind spot while simultaneously keeping tabs on the "asker," making sure he's not coming any closer. It sounds like a lot but it just takes a fraction of a moment to do and can save your life.
    Lots of people get into bad situations because they dismiss their feelings as just being "paranoid" from watching too many movies... Movie directors use these scenarios and situations because it's true. People in "modern society" have stopped listening to their gut, recognizing warning signs, etc., etc..
    I'm not saying people should suddenly *become* paranoid, just to A, be aware of their surroundings and who's around them and...
    B, Listen to their little voices and sudden feelings of alert,something being wrong, etc..
    It's just as likely there's something actually wrong as it is their being "paranoid." Bad guys thrive on people who ignore their surroundings and what's going on around them, who's beside them in an elevator, bar, hotel lobby, etc.
    The "cure" is easy enough. Look up, away from the phone and see what's coming ahead of you.
    Cross the street frequently (if you're walking several blocks), even if you don't "think" anyone's following you. People are counting on your being polite and helpful when they "ask the time" or "drop their change" on the subway, distracting you while your purse or computer, etc. are suddenly missing when you to return/sit back up in your seat. These things are usually run in pairs.

    Your true “gut” instinct is never wrong. The only times in my life where l screwed up was not listing to it. Expect the unexpected, but never live in fear or distrust of everyone or everything.it takes many years of training to truly understand situational awareness, but staring with listing to your gut is the place to focus for those that don’t have the time in. To all the martial artists out there, you need to be a shepherd in this society. People are weaker and predators more prevalent. Find courage to protect the prey.

    Quick story about following your gut or instincts; I went hiking with a ex-roommate, deep into the mountains of Montana. They're from Texas and I am from France, with dual citizenship. Of course, the combination was already out of the ordinary, based on where we are from.
    Anyhow, as we were hiking, there was a sign that stated "BEAR FREQUENTING AREA!" Yet, we were deepening our steps, towards the sign, which lead to a Forrest. I instantly said "Neh, I'm not going in there due to the sign." The ex-roommate began to make sly-comments about me being afraid, instead of saying something along the lines of "Oh, okay. I understand. If you are not ready then maybe another time."
    I was just exuding intelligence, based on my low-level of how bears operate. At this time, I knew very little of the nature Bears. While the ex-roommate kept pointing out that I was afraid, which was not the point, yet also another red flag. All in all, after that, I knew I should not interact with this person anymore! Which I already can tell, but I ignored that instinct, a little after we met and still proceeded to hang out with them a bit more. But that hiking incident was the one where I said "Neh, I'm not hanging out with this person after today."
    To conclude, this genius went out to hike on their own and had a devastating attack with a God like Grizzly Mama Bear. People, follow your instincts. Even Spiderman does.

    I once ignored my gut instinct when I knew I should have walked around the gang of lads hanging out in the town center mall after hours and because it would have made me late to meet my girlfriend I made the mistake of walking past them and I heard running behind me after I had passed them and I looked back to see a blue coat grab me and pull me to the ground and kick the back of my head and neck in. I counted the white flashes while it was happening to me and it was about 6 or 7 kicks. I was wobbling when I got up and couldn't stand up straight and the guy said I should get out of there before I really got hurt. I ended up having to wear a neck brace for aonth I had my meta something or other muscle torn which to this day causes a click noise and white blinding flash if I move my head a certain way even 30yrs later. I knew it was going to happen but tried to tell myself I was over reacting. That's England for you. Fucking cesspit of a country.

    Something that needs highlighting - and putting into the mix if you are serious about analyzing this stuff - is that people who are on any areas of the autistic spectrums find it very difficult to judge things like personal space and other "usual" social cues. There are many instances of these folks getting in hot water because of a misunderstanding based on their inability to read situations....

It is very crucial to be aware of your surroundings at anytime of day. I have been able to avoid situations where people have been trying to start problems, By being aware of them and keeping distance also they will not try anything if they know you are aware and not going to put up with them.

    I once passed a guy sitting at a bus stop, after I walked past him he got up and started following me or at least walking in the same direction, I seemed to sense he was behind me because I don’t remember hearing any noises. I said what’s up mate, he walked up pretty close and then he said a couple of things which I can’t remember but what I do remember is he offered me a drink, he had been to the bottle shop and had cans of some type of alcohol in the bag. I just remember getting a strange gut feeling like he was just trying to draw me in close, I said Nar mate I don’t drink, he didn’t like that and started moving closer, I knew if he got any closer he would be close enough to launch an attack and I know a thing or two about striking distance, at this point I just ran and he then started calling me a bitch or something like that, I didn’t care cause this guy was 7 foot tall, covered in tattoos and had a vibe about him like he’d just got out of prison and I do live in an area where all the crims get dumped when they get out of prison. That’s what a cop once told me. Anyway, anyway, always follow your gut, it will keep you safe. Peace out ✌️
