Comes from nature, itself. I alluded to that "watering hole" we call the real world. The predator(s) size up the daily potential of victims (no lion and pride wake up in the am and say "Today I'll seek out the biggest BULL ELEPHANT or RHINO I can find, just to prove I've still got it).
"See" your attacker before s/he sees you. The coin can fall either way. You're just another victim to roll, or there's something about you (your scan that catches your
attacker DIRECTLY and communicates something s/he did not wake up to deal with today).
Is it the balance in your stance, the perfect measure of your gait, the tauntness of your muscles as you stand (what does this person know) and my favorite, X THE UNKNOWN- the slight bulge about your clothing where your hands are (is this a weapon, waiting for me to make the first move- NO ONE TELEGRAPHS that info sooo easily, that could be a distraction or feint. They may have SOMETHING ELSE)!
The hard target is passed over. That leaves lots of easy victims to pick through. Which mask will you wear today?

Corporate office politics are some of the most cut throat, awful, and financially dangerous. Cover yourself at all levels and use documentation as your weapons and shield. Always make double or triple copies of paperwork you turn in and keep them hidden. There are people always trying to achieve what you have by deceit and cajolery. They are predators and there is always another to take their place.

    How I put it is.
    1. Never create or allow a situation where you can be attacked. Know dangerous places, people, times, etc and don't allow yourself to be there.
    2. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation where you can be attacked, mentally note that by that fact, the attack has already begun. By the time someone approaches you, it is just one event in a chain of events you had already visualised and preempted.
    3. Immediately someone starts to show intention.
    i. De-escalate
ii. Check if they have a weapon or if there's any around.
iii. Do not square up, keep distance by moving back or towards whatever safe zone.
iv. Do not turn your back
    v. Identify all attackers and keep them in front of you.
    4. You should have regularly trained in counterpunching the cross, jab and learned the 1,2 and uppercut. Also a leg kick and kick to the chin.
If its 1 attacker, the best would be a clinch, tripping, hooks, punch and elbows to face, Rear naked choke, guillotine on a barrier behind them or a arm triangle choke from a full or side mount.
    5. Constantly call for help.
    6. As long as it's multiple attacker or they have a weapon. Your chances are extremely low. If they don't have a weapon, back up constantly keeping them ahead of you de-escalating, calling for help and counterstriking.
    7. If the attacker has a weapon
    i. Let them know you will give them whatever they want without any issue. Tell them it's theirs already and you are glad to give it to them.
ii. If their intent is to harm you and not physical objects, we'll my friend, you have a them vs you dying situation in your hands. You should have regularly trained for this. Fight with the intent of both getting possession of the weapon and neutralising them as fast as possible. But you can not hesitate for a second.
    Peace, Love and good Vibes.

Back in 1984 I was in the 11th grade and was only 5 feet tall, but nobody messed with me. If a clueless bully picked on me, I would tell them that I had NOTHING TO LOSE and everything to gain in the eyes of the crowd, and he had EVERYTHING TO LOSE and nothing to gain because he TOWERED OVER ME. If it continued I would calmly clench my fists and force tears into my eyes, and tell him "Let's do this"! I was known to be a feisty scrapper and an accomplished boxer, so they became confused and generally left me alone. If there were more than one person picking on me, I would ask who was in charge and go after that one. And if one of his followers gave me some lip, I would tell him "I think I'll warm up on you first". Worked like a charm!

1 Remove intention, psychological approaches deescalation etc, I use these a lot.
2 Deny capability, this is what physical intervention is about, restraint neutralisation etc last resort.
3 Deny opportunity don’t be there, use the environment, presence of others, consequences.
Another important consideration would be leverage and balance of power but that’s linked to 1 and 3 anyway.

Nice. But what I like to do is avoid situations that might lead my into trouble not in fear of them but what I’m capable of doing to them if I get the upper hand. I’m not lazy, and i consider myself pretty aware of my surroundings. What scares me and I’ve reached this point twice in my life where I see red and I snap. I broke a guys arm because he essentially tried me when I was not wanting to be tried. We scuffled a little bit eventually went to the ground. Longer story short I knocked him out with a kick to the head and then pressed my shoe on the back of his elbow and pulled to the arm snapped.

To walk through your daily life "chambered-no safety" puts an incredible drain on a person. Reading people as they approach, front and rear gives you a few seconds to "expand your presence", making your assailant(s) look for an easier target.
These people don't fear the system. It's just you against your assailant(s), since most people move away from what appears to be a potential confrontation.
Take inventory now, before you head to the watering hole called the outside world. The weak are taken out by one crazy, or the pack.
How do you look to an assailant? Easy meat, or a hard target that
s/he may want to skip over?
What does your balance of stance, position of hands (don't telegraph which hand you use, and that balled fist in each pocket can luckily be misread as a weapon for your defense).

You've reminded me of a documentary years ago by an Israeli veteran. Awareness of surroundings is a good part of self defense. He did an experiment mounting a camera on the head of a civilian and then a formally deployed veteran. Each subject walked in a dark alley. The civilian primarily looked straight ahead where he was going. The veteran constantly looked ahead and side to side thus being able to spot potential threats. This helps reduce opportunity by removing surprise. The perp can not sneak up on the veteran as he has spotted him quickly.
It was interesting to watch as after my deployment in the 90's I've always done the same thing constantly scanning the area I'm in or moving in to. I can't help it now. It always happens. Even when install in to a room for the first time I always instinctively quick scan the whole area.

Then people say your family got ‘closure’. We are not allowed to carry ANYTHING to protect ourselves with. Only the bad guys get to carry weapons, because they will anyway. It’s really crazy. People get murdered or killed all the time with knives here, but they’re always kitchen knives. So the government ban everyone from carrying any type of knife. Still the bad guys carry knives. When the drugs ran out I was a writhing squirming uncomfortable unable to sleep wish I was dead for 6 days. I never got high from it it offset so much pain I derived no attachment to it besides physical addiction. I could see the sub human side of myself had I been alone not have children and actually enjoyed the drug I could see anyone without allot of self will would steal from god himself to get it. Lack of sleep for long periods drives one insane quite quickly. 7th night I fell asleep when I woke much latter life was reality again.
I am honestly surprised after this how they even imagined to leave me at home going through this. It is wise for medical people to realize this I feel would push most people who have no loved ones to help them to do regrettable things.

I would say there are two factors to whether someone is dangerous. Both are uncontrollable and unknowable to certain degrees. 1. Extent of violence a people is willing to exact. Time in which that extent is reached.
    1. The extent in which a person is willing to go to do violence;
Some people want to verbally get their point across. Screaming and yelling and posturing is their extent.
Some people want to exert their dominance, and hurt you physically and/or mentally. So physical or spatial dominance is their extent.
Some people want to kill. THEY WANT TO KILL YOU!!!!
    2. The time in which that extent is reached;
The time in which it takes a person to decide that their extent of violence is warranted.
This could be after other methods, e.g. talking, posturing, lower level physical skills and techniques, have failed. Or, after mere eye contact a person could pull a gun and shoot someone, point blank, in the face, without any warning.
We can only hope that our violent encounters are at the lower end of this spectrum. We hope
there is plenty of talking, posturing, telegraphing, and reasoning, before higher levels or violence ensues. We hope that our training will be adequate for whatever level of violence we encounter. We can hope may never learn of the extents in which people will and can go to exact violence.
    Stay safe.

Hey, I’m a girl/women. I used to live in America and I got robbed twice.(I’m going back) I wanted to know how do I encounter a situation when I’m going out at night to take night runs or eat at a restaurant or something alone. If I somehow walk through a dark alley where crime rate areas are high and pretty much a tight road with walls on both sides. Making it impossible for me to run in different directions if I see a man/women/psychopath with a gun/bat/weapon or ready to mess someone’s day up down the street, meaning I could only run in 1 possible direction. I’m overthinking this however if this ever happens at least I could hopefully not get harmed, or killed. I know I’m asking a lot of questions but what if your already really close to the person, I’m a decent runner(kinda) but what if the person in front of me has more opportunities to get to me. How do I reduce the opportunities, not trying to sound annoying but I can’t always carry pepper spray with me or even my handgun.

This is a good video. I used to do silly things like not moving away from the person . I use to think to myself I am not letting this idiot stand over me. Which having an attitude like that can land you in the emergency department or worse dead. I used to think people that act aggressive were bullies but what I need to understand is that there are a lot of antisocial people in our society today that don’t place any importance on a humans life, their well being and their property. The mentally disturbed are all around us in shopping malls, supermarkets, public transport on nature tracks and public parks. Knife attacks are on the increase. I do exactly what the gentleman says now I started doing these recently. My daughter dose it as well. You don’t say a word , no eye contact and move away as quietly and carefully as you can. My daughter and I have very strong intuition and it has protected us from so much danger. We get feelings about people and places and we listen to our intuition all the time. You have to be organised when out and about and travelling. Make sure you have your phone where you can get to it quickly. Time buses and trains so that you aren’t sitting for more than a couple of minutes at bus stops and stations. Be confident when out and be assertive. I don’t sit or stand near strangers and I never talk to strangers. Not talking to strangers just isn’t for children it’s for adults as well. If there is a gang at a bus stop than walk to the next one. If there is a violent person waiting at the lights to cross the road than stand well away from them and catch the next set of lights. I find that if you keep moving when you are out and about you no longer are a target. I learnt from past experiences with violent, unhinged people and pests who ask for money in public places that if you keep walking at a good pace and you look assertive and confident you are less likely to be ambushed by these people. Have a plan when you are planning to be in public places and prepare all your belongings and timetables. I learnt profiling years ago and I highly recommend everyone take a course in profiling. Learning phycology on how certain people operate in our society is beneficial as well.

That will stop them for a split second and you hit them again and again till they go down. You do not stop till they are down. I have used that very philosophy myself in situations as for some reason a lot of so called men thought I was an easy target. They soon found out I was not an easy target as I was fully trained in Unarmed Combat and Mixed Martial Arts. I did Boxing from the age of 8. And I can take the hit and not fall down. i had to understand that people who start shit are deeply insecure. once i really realized this, i lost the need to assert myself in defense. thus taking away all opportunities. i know their lives are awful and i let them continue on that path. and i stay the hell out of that mess and avoid avoid avoid. life is much better now

    Hey :)
I'm an amateur boxer and searching for self-defense tips for a team. I'm not alone when I'm out late and have my best buddy with me. How do we fight 2 against 1,2,3 people? Tactics, tips etc. would be welcome I have only seen 1vs 1,2,3 people videos on youtube but none with your buddy against someone else. I think there should be a lot of potential for training there. Thanks :)

Nothing to add unfortunately, but I think this is a very good question you've raised. We all think of multiple attackers, but I don't think anyone has done multiple defenders yet.

Could you do some knife 🔪 attack stuff? And what do you think about revenge when the police do nothing?

I like how you study and teach us the mentality and psychology of fighting. There are too many people just teaching strikes and kicks
