I bought my first expensive watch new at the age of 24 , a Rolex Oysterquartz Day Date Egyptian, at the age of 53 I still own this watch. Many say this watch is outdated perhaps it is but so am I😊

I like the older only because of the brushed finished top flanks. Personally Brushed finished gold just looks more like natural gold especially contrasting with the polished sides. So cool. 👌🏽
So hard to beat the 18038 classic, 36 MM is perfect size for this watch. Just love the classic look better, some new ones look fake because the gold is so yellow vs it was more subtle with the older models.

36 was not released in the 80ies, bit the 50ies and is not discontinued...

@@jackdaniels2586 that's a good clarification, but I thought he was saying the 36mm was canceled. Also, using such an old 36 vs a newer 36 would have been a better comparison (e.g., Rolex written on the inside, double quick set). This video makes it seem like all the new features are only on the 40 mm, which isn't accurate.
Something I have a question on is, on the 40, when you turn the crown upward or clockwise, does the second hand turn clockwise or counter clockwise. I've seen videos of both, so I'm trying to determine if the 3255 turns clockwise or counter-clockwise? Thanks...

I waited to buy one until the links were solid and ceramic lined. The bracelet alone more than justifies the price difference.
DD 40MM is pure CLASS with the Roman Numerals!!!! ❤ I'm glad to see that when a watch is "improved" that it actually looks better. However, the DD 2 (41mm) could be considered a disaster hence the reason it was discontinued....bad proportions was the main fault.
Older 36 goes for 15,000 to 19,000 in todays market
One thing I don’t like about the day date 40 is that the day and date window is always white in all dial colors, were in 36, the windows are a bit yellow, matches with the dial color

The difference between the 2 watches is about 24 thousand dollars so it’s a pretty easy decision in my book lol
But the difference between the 36 and a "normal" watch is also many thousands, so you would buy a normal one if you think this way. Buying a Rolex has nothing to do with thinking like that.

Why on ROMAN NUMERALS, from Rolex, even on the Presidential/Day-Date, are the markers upside down or rights side up at times? Aren't they consistent since time began? I have a recently purchased Day/Date -from an authorized dealer - that has the 6 inversed (in roman numerals - meaning you can read it correctly when on your wrist - which makes sense), the "4" are 4 in-line markers (as in your video) but no connector on the top as some Rolexes do have. Here your 8 is inverse, mine is viewable, again, like the 6, from the front - not upside down. My NINE is IX and not just a single line as in your video. So it is quite strange - what is AUTHENTIC versus not. Either my watch was sold to me, used, as a fake (from an authorized dealer who assured me the dial was not a re-dial nor a fake) or Rolex does things differently, decade to decade. Mine is from 1980.
Some do have single line for the nine and the IX for 9

I initially wanted the 40mm but when I tried it , it sat flatter on my wrist. The 36mm however sat rounder on my wrist. The more I see it the better it gets.

I think the 40 is too big for what the day date represents. The 36 is classy and humble enough without being big and boisterous.
I respectfully disagree. I had a white gold day date presidential which I had purchased approximately 17 years ago. I distinctly remember the day I acquired it and how ‘proud’ I was. I loved this watch and wore it every day without fail. I never even considered that I would one day part with it. However, time moves on and this past weekend I went to my AD who gave me a generous buy back on my ‘old’ presidential, I walked out with my new white gold day date 40. I’m in love. First and foremost, as I’ve aged my eyes have become worse. Being able to see the ‘40 vs the ‘36 is night and day. I in truth never noticed how much my sight had deteriorated over time until I put the 40 on. Simply amazing. Add to that the new movement and I’m sold and 100% satisfied. If you are into and wanting a presidential, get the ‘40. It has something I refer to as major ball tingle. I love it and I suspect so will all else that wear one.

41 is oversized clown hence the discontinued, i have the 18248 for vintage purpose and the 228238 and the 40mm definetly feels more superior to the 36. Alot of authorize retailers will actually tell you 36 is more female nowadays.
