I always wanted my first gold watch to be yellow gold, because as you say, it's the true colour of gold. When I think of gold, it's yellow. But I ended up getting a rose gold Ulysse Nardin (by circumstance), and the lustre is incredible! Can't go wrong either way.

I much rather prefer the yellow gold purely because of the classic nature of yellow gold. It looks like it will outlast the ever rose as a fashion item and will likely keep its value for a lot longer.

@@arnoldarnoldsson9572 The reviewer mentioned that none of it is 24K "pure gold", that would make it too soft for everyday wear in the form of watches and jewelry. The watches being reviewed are all 75% gold, mixed with 25% other metals. That includes the yellow gold version being shown here.

Very informative, Dylan, and I have a degree in Chemistry. ;) This further solidifies my desire to get the Datejust 28mm, in platinum, for my wife and a Day-Date or Daytona, in platinum, for myself. I already have a stainless steel ceramic Daytona (black dial), so it will likely be the Day-Date. At least as of now, my understanding is that you can only get an ice blue dial with a platinum Rolex.

  • @andrewholt3849

The rose gold (Everose in Rolex's parlance) Day Date 40 you had Ref: 228235 has the 1956-2015 60th Anniversary olive green sunburst dial and is £27,650 in Rolex's April 2017 UK RRP price list. Usually both the Everose and White Gold comparable models are the same price and the yellow gold option cheaper. The white dialled Ref: 228268 yellow gold version, both with the individually hand polished deconstructed Roman Numerals is £25,550. The comparable white gold version with the same dial in blue Ref: 228239 is £27,650 like the Everose version above. The extra £2,100 is because of the Palladium and Platinum used. The nearest all 950 Platinum version Ref: 228206 is £45,900. I'd like to see a Platinum GMT-Master II with a ceramic 'Coke' (Black and Red instead of the Blue and Red 'Pepsi for Night (18:00-06:00 Hrs) and Day (06:00-18:00) at Baselworld 2018. Another upgrade would be a Triplock crown and fixed monoblock ceramic bezel for the Explorer II.

Tried, when I was on the market for a gold watch, yellow and everose and the yellow gold was it for me, all the way. Why? Skin type. The everose is beautiful and stunning - until I had it on my wrist.
Got myself than the 116618LB with its beautiful sunburst blue dial, not much which beats that.
But, doesn’t matter how well Rolex makes their gold, the 750 is soft and far more delicate than I expected. So if you are a person which goes crazy already with small scratches, this sort of watches isn’t for you, as it wasn’t for me.
So I went back to TT and solid steel, but still, gold just bears true beauty and feels just great and warm when you have it on your wrist.
Great video, compete the yellow gold with a sunburst dial and the yg DD will be on the same level, for sure.
