@@GarethDix I found it cheaper to buy a Ninja V and $199 Samsung 2TB SSD than buying V90 SSDs to use it to record with the Ninja V and use it with a USB 3 cord to edit with on the computer with 2TB. I shopped and paid $800 for the entire upgrade of recorder, cord, two Wasabi batteries & SSD during black Friday sales.
One day I may break free of my C100 MKII bubble (I have 2). They do the job, good enough for online delivery, and minimal work in post. But my, how technology has moved on. Thanks for putting this up. The R6 truly is a lovely camera.

Cool looking camera. It really is.. But it’s always so interesting when video shooters trip out over specs... 8 bit vs10 bit.. or 4.2.0 or 4.2.2.. because clients do NOT care, because they can’t tell. So as long as we all admit that these changes are for the shooters, and for the personal pleasure of pulling shadows and “grading” then we will be OK. Except for a few annoyances, the R6 looks capable, as have all digital cameras ever since they came out years ago and as they will be twenty years into the future.

Hello my friend. I loved your video. We are at the end of 2022 and I still use my Canon 80D and I have good results with it. I wanted to take a leap. I know the R6 isn't cheap and it's been out for a while, but I still think it would be good for me. Shooting in 4k full frame would be great. ME looks like it does a small crop of zero comma something, but it's still little compared to R7. You recommend. I have basic lenses for APC, 18-55, 10-18mm and the 50mm 1.8. At first I would have to use the adapter, but I think it would be an evolution. The R7 shoots with no time limit, the R6 only takes 30 minutes and then you have to press REC again. What do you think?
The R5 seems to have gotten all the attention (both good attention and bad attention), but the R6 is so nice! Although we are anxious to see more reviews of the C70 which looks like a total beast. Great video Sam!

Hi my names Chaz and I've just seen this video. To get around the small view screen I use the Viltrox 550 pro monitor. With 1200 nits its great even in strong sunlight, but also has tons of functionality mostly only seen in much higher priced high end monitors. Also comes with extra bits like HDMI cables, battery etc. All at budget monitor price. If you don't have one, give it a whirl.
I now have both the R5 & just got R6 yesterday.. I'm sure I'll love using the R6. I do both photo & video.. I feel I need both. I do shoot 120fps at times and the R5 will do that for me. But 4K 24 or 30 I'll gladly use either.

@@ankitkushwaha7174 in warm conditions you can definitely overheat on both. But it's better than before. In my experience, I'm still definitely enjoying both cameras.. at times I'm able to handle shooting bracketed HDR shots handheld in lower light conditions.

I’ve currently got the Canon M50 and moving to Sony honestly just makes me feel a little worried. I think sticking with canon for the RF lenses and interface is what I’ll do.
I went from Canon to Sony, back to Canon. But it’s all personal preference. The Sony was great but I just liked the user interface of the Canon and the size and weight of the lenses etc. Can’t go wrong with anything these days to be honest 🙏🏻
Super helpful video mate. Looking to finally upgrade for work. Currently rocking an R and M50 so to move up to R6 + R. Sounds like your professional work is somewhat similar to mine. We focus on a lot of content for social media platforms though so it's easy to get caught up in pixel counts and resolutions. I think the R6 will be the better choice overall for my work as it will still be a hybrid of 4K and 1080. Most clients wouldn't even notice the difference but the benefits of 4K for refrain a shot (and pulling stills from) etc definitely brings more utility that I'm looking for. The 4K crop on the R is painful and extremely limiting at times now. Now I just need to tap up my boss for the upgrade 😅

Thank you 🤩🙏🏻 tried so many cameras before finding the one that I preferred for workflow and image so if you have the ability to test different types first, defffo do that. Lots of brands do loan schemes now which is cool BUT to answer your question, the Lumix S5ii is the best value for money in my opinion. (I don’t get paid to say this it’s just my honest opinion) you’ll be happier with that over the canon. I loved the canon but the Lumix is miles ahead for videos specs and features and image. FX3 is a great choice if you like Sony menus etc. hope this helps 🙏🏻🎥

To be honest it doesn’t bother me at all and I only notice when I go to the full frame 4K on Sony or the R5 but I have never missed having that extra bit. But it may bother some people 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🤩🎥

Thanks man - was looking for specific info on the 4k... I owned one for a while and at the time determined that I did not need it over my RP's. But now that I am doing more vertical content - I'm considering shooting in 4k so I can crop in for the vertical and also have the horizontal shot as well. RP has cropped 4k and no AF in 4k mode. I have LOVED the RP's (I have 4) for livestreaming (ua-cam.com/video/gJ5M7roF6z8/v-deo.html) and some content creation and especially love the Sigma 24mm 1.4 lens on there with Meike EF/RF adaptor. Hi Shovona. In my opinion, the R6 is more than good enough. 10 bit 422 colour and amazing image. Also great in low light situations. If you need more MP for print, then something else might suit you better. But for video... 👌🏻🎥 I chose this over the R5 which is almost twice the price and I am pleased with my decision still. The autofocus is stellar! 👌🏻 so much better than the Sony a7iii (I used to have one and didn’t like it at all especially for face tracking) but the Sony a7Siii is on par with canon now. I can’t comment on the Panasonic having never owned it but I’ve tried the G series and it’s not great.
I bought R6 after using Sony A7RII and A7SII. I would definetely say that the R6 much more better than RII and SII in terms of video quality.You will be notice about difference between 8-bit 420 and 10 bit 422. In photo quality it is still hard to catch the old A7RII but it is much more faster and feels comfortable than A7RII. Dynamic range at A7RII is still a little bit better but max 0.5 more though you get more precise colors with R6 thanks to successfull Canon color science.
The footage looks great Sam. I love the look of the R6. Being a FCP user Im not sure how practical it would be to change everything to prores. So Id probably have to buy a M1 chip mac as they seem to be able to edit the files no problem.
@@lcy81 I have used 4k 60fps.. But I think its kinda overrated. 90% of the people watching videos are looking at them on shitty screan's/tv's. Shooting 1080p at a high bitrate is fine for now.
I personally prefer using canon but that’s because I’m used to it. I’ve tried Sony and Panasonic and they’re great but I always find myself coming back to canon. Other people may find it different so it’s worth trying some if you can and seeing what your favourite is. Also, it’s worth considering what features YOU need. 10 bit is only with C-log, right? R6 has a lot more of cons: no All-Intra, no dual recording, screen is disabled when you use external monitor, less dynamic range than all competition. I have an Eos R and GH5 and thinking about upgrade between Lumix S1/S5 or EOS R6.
I think that’s right about the 10 Bit but I always use c log anyway. I thought the same things as you but there is no loss in quality between all i and IPB ... even Gerald undone says so 😂 the speed for my computer is the same also. You can have the screen enabled for external monitors. You just select it in the camera HDMI settings. Yes it has less dynamic range but it’s still great. If you’re producing high end content for paid work and you need the extra dynamic range then yes that is a problem. I am planning to invest in 2021 in Canon, coz now i am having the Nikon D7200, Nikon D750 and tried out the beginner's mirrorless Canon M50 (ofcourse there is 0 comparison with the beasts R, R5 and R6), but i found out that canon M50, despite the fact is an ''entry level'' mirrorless camera for Canon, it works great both for stills and videos. So I was thinking to go for RP or R and with this video you make me double think about it and check out R6💷💷💷😅!!! Btw, your videos are 👌👌👌

Thanks Addrian. No difference what so ever between ALL i and IPB in terms of picture quality. The files are crazy slow to play back in premiere but so are the R5 all i so it’s not the IPB problem. I convert all my files to prores anyway for quicker editing. Much better quality compared to the R as it’s 10 bit and full frame 4K but one thing I’m working on right now is exposing correctly as it’s completely different. @@SamHolland they absolutely will. I do have a few more questions. Regarding the R6 in say a feature film setting as i may have an opportunity to do an indy feature. I just wanted to know if im shooting normal 4k not HQ should i be worried about it overheating? My R has never given me issue but this was one of my concerns. And regarding DR is there a difference between the R and R6 because theyre both using C-log and not C-log 3 which the R5 will be getting? And how is the battery life, and is it worth using my R batteries or will i need to upgrade to the new batteries? thanks again Sam!
I haven’t had any issues with overheating but if you’re producing films, it’s probably worth getting a “proper” dedicated video camera for that sort of thing. BMPCC or Canon C70. Extremely well priced video cameras! The dynamic range is better on the R6 compared to the R. Stunning in 4K and makes such a difference. 🙏🏻

Hey Nico. I can’t tell you what to buy, but I can say that I use my Ninja V all the time. It’s been a really helpful piece of gear to eat my exposure correctly and help with focus etc on shoots. Thanks for your review and time. I shoot mostly Real Estate video, open house style tours. I am concerned about those wobbles using the R6. I am walking through a home show casing the property, smooth flow and still walls are a must. I use a Zhiyun Crane 2s with my camera currently (Canon 5d mark iv) and with out any image stabilization- lens or in camera. So, I was hoping this R6 IBIS would make life easier, seems that may not be the case. Your thoughts? Also, could you expand on the 1080 P quality of the R6 camera? How does it stack up to your other Canon cameras? Thanks again for the time you took to make this review and to answer my questions.
Hi. Did you want to get rid of the gimbal and just use the camera? To be honest, I haven’t tested all the options. BUT I just ordered and received the R6 yesterday so I’ll be experimenting with it a little more so I’ll let you know. I’ve heard you can turn off the ibis so should be ok 👌🏻 yeah with the 1080 it looks just as good, if not better than the eos R so no complaints there. 🙏🏻 thanks for watching
if you're using the gimbal turn off the IBIS and the lens IS if there's one. But if you're using the IBIS make sure that your movements are smooth and walk slow. Just like any other camera with IBIS an abrupt/fast movement will create wobbles. Thats why R6 is great for wedding videos since you do a lot of slow movement and its actually really stable. Also I suggest investing on smallrig and handle. It will make your footage much smoother.
Oh one more question, do you recommend using filters when filming and if so which would you recommend, mainly for filming portrait videos / lifestyle and travel content
Yeh it’s set to 10 bit when you’re in c log mode. The stabilisation is great but I don’t like the ibis warp in the edges. So I turn that off for serious stuff and just rely on the lens IS or the digital stabilisation rather than the ibis. I use the polar pro VND filter or my own home made mist filter (which I did a video on 😂) if I want to be a bit more creative. Hope that helps man. Thanks for checking out the channel 🙏🏻🎥
Good video. Are you recording this on the R using the Atomos Ninja, external 10 bit 4.2.2 - its great quality. I'm assuming you're also using the 28-70 at 28mm, with the 4k crop? Great overall result with the R - I'm wondering the same as you whether the R6 is worth the upgrade or not.

As to overheating, can you tell us how long you ran the video for at a given time. I hear overheating arises at 4k when protracted videotaping, such as 30+ minutes, takes place. Great video and smooth as pie conjures up a great pie. LOL Thanks
Hi Francis. I haven’t had any overheating issues with this camera yet! Which is a bonus 🥳 I’ve been recording professionally with it and recorded 2 hours worth of footage with the camera being on for longer than that and it’s been absolutely fine. I am looking at the R6 as a hybrid shooter, but I do also want to record longer takes (talking head and my drumcovers). I know the Ninja V would alleviate those problems, but that would put the price in the range of the Sony A7S III, although I really don't like using their cameras.
Hi Sam... awesome video really... have you experienced any issues on the camera besides overheating ? Such as the camera freezing in the middle of the recording and then deleting that clip... as well as the camera giving a much warmer image ? Or where these issues fixed in an update ?

I was scared to be honest but I have full confidence now as I’ve used it exactly how I always used previous cameras and there hasn’t been any draw backs. 🤞🏻🎥 I would say if I had any problems to warn others but it’s fine.
My R6 overheats in 4K 60 and 4K 24fps. It is a shame. I live in Puerto Rico. Caribbean summer all year around. Although I love the camera, everytime I shoot an interview, it is so annoying to see the overheating warning at about 20 minutes of recording! I am not happy about it. I am just using the camera to record b-roll, stopping and pressing the record button constantly. So sad! Why Sony cameras with similar bodies don't overheat like the Canons? Thanks for the video! Any ideas?
It’s annoying isn’t it. I don’t know why. I guess they still are photo first cameras. They need to bring out some more video centric cameras that aren’t cinema cameras for people like us

Hello my friend. I loved your video. We are at the end of 2022 and I still use my Canon 80D and I have good results with it. I wanted to take a leap. I know the R6 isn't cheap and it's been out for a while, but I still think it would be good for me. Shooting in 4k full frame would be great. ME looks like it does a small crop of zero comma something, but it's still little compared to R7. You recommend. I have basic lenses for APC, 18-55, 10-18mm and the 50mm 1.8. At first I would have to use the adapter, but I think it would be an evolution. The R7 shoots with no time limit, the R6 only takes 30 minutes and then you have to press REC again. What do you think?

Hi my names Chaz and I've just seen this video. To get around the small view screen I use the Viltrox 550 pro monitor. With 1200 nits its great even in strong sunlight, but also has tons of functionality mostly only seen in much higher priced high end monitors. Also comes with extra bits like HDMI cables, battery etc. All at budget monitor price. If you don't have one, give it a whirl.
I now have both the R5 & just got R6 yesterday.. I'm sure I'll love using the R6.
I do both photo & video.. I feel I need both.
I do shoot 120fps at times and the R5 will do that for me. But 4K 24 or 30 I'll gladly use either.
Both such good cameras. I keep trying other cameras but always come back to canon. So easy to use 🤩 I’m pleased you like using both.

But it's better than before.
In my experience, I'm still definitely enjoying both cameras.. at times I'm able to handle shooting bracketed HDR shots handheld in lower light conditions.

I’ve currently got the Canon M50 and moving to Sony honestly just makes me feel a little worried. I think sticking with canon for the RF lenses and interface is what I’ll do.
I went from Canon to Sony, back to Canon. But it’s all personal preference. The Sony was great but I just liked the user interface of the Canon and the size and weight of the lenses etc. Can’t go wrong with anything these days to be honest 🙏🏻

Super helpful video mate. Looking to finally upgrade for work. Currently rocking an R and M50 so to move up to R6 + R. Sounds like your professional work is somewhat similar to mine. We focus on a lot of content for social media platforms though so it's easy to get caught up in pixel counts and resolutions. I think the R6 will be the better choice overall for my work as it will still be a hybrid of 4K and 1080. Most clients wouldn't even notice the difference but the benefits of 4K for refrain a shot (and pulling stills from) etc definitely brings more utility that I'm looking for.
The 4K crop on the R is painful and extremely limiting at times now. Now I just need to tap up my boss for the upgrade 😅

Thank you 🤩🙏🏻 tried so many cameras before finding the one that I preferred for workflow and image so if you have the ability to test different types first, defffo do that. Lots of brands do loan schemes now which is cool BUT to answer your question, the Lumix S5ii is the best value for money in my opinion. (I don’t get paid to say this it’s just my honest opinion) you’ll be happier with that over the canon. I loved the canon but the Lumix is miles ahead for videos specs and features and image. FX3 is a great choice if you like Sony menus etc. hope this helps 🙏🏻🎥

To be honest it doesn’t bother me at all and I only notice when I go to the full frame 4K on Sony or the R5 but I have never missed having that extra bit. But it may bother some people 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🤩🎥

Thank you very much, Kwayme 🙏🏻 yes that’s right. Used the R with the atomos ninja V in 10 bit. Such a great combo. Even the R on its own in 1080 or 4K is great. BUT you get the crop in 4K with the R. Thanks man - was looking for specific info on the 4k... I owned one for a while and at the time determined that I did not need it over my RP's. But now that I am doing more vertical content - I'm considering shooting in 4k so I can crop in for the vertical and also have the horizontal shot as well. RP has cropped 4k and no AF in 4k mode. I have LOVED the RP's (I have 4) for livestreaming (ua-cam.com/video/gJ5M7roF6z8/v-deo.html) and some content creation and especially love the Sigma 24mm 1.4 lens on there with Meike EF/RF adaptor. Hi Shovona. In my opinion, the R6 is more than good enough. 10 bit 422 colour and amazing image. Also great in low light situations. If you need more MP for print, then something else might suit you better. But for video... 👌🏻🎥 I chose this over the R5 which is almost twice the price and I am pleased with my decision still. How's it's AF tracking performance n video IQ as compared to a7iii n Panasonic S5...?
😂 haha thank YOU for watching! The autofocus is stellar! 👌🏻 so much better than the Sony a7iii (I used to have one and didn’t like it at all especially for face tracking) but the Sony a7Siii is on par with canon now. I can’t comment on the Panasonic having never owned it but I’ve tried the G series and it’s not great.

Especially 120fps...
I bought R6 after using Sony A7RII and A7SII. I would definetely say that the R6 much more better than RII and SII in terms of video quality.You will be notice about difference between 8-bit 420 and 10 bit 422. In photo quality it is still hard to catch the old A7RII but it is much more faster and feels comfortable than A7RII. Dynamic range at A7RII is still a little bit better but max 0.5 more though you get more precise colors with R6 thanks to successfull Canon color science.

The footage looks great Sam. I love the look of the R6. Being a FCP user Im not sure how practical it would be to change everything to prores. So Id probably have to buy a M1 chip mac as they seem to be able to edit the files no problem.

if you use 4k 60fps, you will not love 1080 120fps any more.
@@lcy81 I have used 4k 60fps.. But I think its kinda overrated. 90% of the people watching videos are looking at them on shitty screan's/tv's. Shooting 1080p at a high bitrate is fine for now.
Great video, for weddings and documentaries would you choose this over the Panasonic GH5?
I personally prefer using canon but that’s because I’m used to it. I’ve tried Sony and Panasonic and they’re great but I always find myself coming back to canon. Other people may find it different so it’s worth trying some if you can and seeing what your favourite is. Also, it’s worth considering what features YOU need. 10 bit is only with C-log, right? R6 has a lot more of cons: no All-Intra, no dual recording, screen is disabled when you use external monitor, less dynamic range than all competition. I have an Eos R and GH5 and thinking about upgrade between Lumix S1/S5 or EOS R6.
I think that’s right about the 10 Bit but I always use c log anyway. I thought the same things as you but there is no loss in quality between all i and IPB ... even Gerald undone says so 😂 the speed for my computer is the same also.
You can have the screen enabled for external monitors. You just select it in the camera HDMI settings.
Yes it has less dynamic range but it’s still great. If you’re producing high end content for paid work and you need the extra dynamic range then yes that is a problem.

To me, the R6 looked sightly better than the R5 shot (viewed in 4K on a 5K monitor).
Im torn, i just picked up the eos r & have 15 days left to decide if i want to keep it, or take it back to Best Buy for exchange for the r6.

No custom video modes is the deal breaker for me...
I know what you mean. That bugs me also but when I used to use the custom saved modes, I always need to change things anyway and if I turn the camera off and on again during the shoot, I then have to change it again. So to be fair I don’t miss it that much.

Thanks Addrian. No difference what so ever between ALL i and IPB in terms of picture quality. The files are crazy slow to play back in premiere but so are the R5 all i so it’s not the IPB problem. I convert all my files to prores anyway for quicker editing. Much better quality compared to the R as it’s 10 bit and full frame 4K but one thing I’m working on right now is exposing correctly as it’s completely different. I just wanted to know if im shooting normal 4k not HQ should i be worried about it overheating? My R has never given me issue but this was one of my concerns. And regarding DR is there a difference between the R and R6 because theyre both using C-log and not C-log 3 which the R5 will be getting?
And how is the battery life, and is it worth using my R batteries or will i need to upgrade to the new batteries?

I haven’t had any issues with overheating but if you’re producing films, it’s probably worth getting a “proper” dedicated video camera for that sort of thing. BMPCC or Canon C70. Extremely well priced video cameras! The dynamic range is better on the R6 compared to the R. Stunning in 4K and makes such a difference. 🙏🏻

In FCPX it works fine. In premiere pro, I convert to prores or use my ninja v to record to most of the time.

Hey Nico. I can’t tell you what to buy, but I can say that I use my Ninja V all the time. It’s been a really helpful piece of gear to eat my exposure correctly and help with focus etc on shoots. If you have the money and you do paid work, go for it. But if you’re just doing stuff on your own, you don’t NEED it. I hope that helps 🙏🏻 thanks for watching 🤩💯🎥

Thanks for your review and time. I shoot mostly Real Estate video, open house style tours. I am concerned about those wobbles using the R6. I am walking through a home show casing the property, smooth flow and still walls are a must. I use a Zhiyun Crane 2s with my camera currently (Canon 5d mark iv) and with out any image stabilization- lens or in camera. So, I was hoping this R6 IBIS would make life easier, seems that may not be the case. Your thoughts? Also, could you expand on the 1080 P quality of the R6 camera? How does it stack up to your other Canon cameras? Thanks again for the time you took to make this review and to answer my questions.
Hi. Did you want to get rid of the gimbal and just use the camera? To be honest, I haven’t tested all the options. BUT I just ordered and received the R6 yesterday so I’ll be experimenting with it a little more so I’ll let you know. I’ve heard you can turn off the ibis so should be ok 👌🏻 yeah with the 1080 it looks just as good, if not better than the eos R so no complaints there. 🙏🏻 thanks for watching
if you're using the gimbal turn off the IBIS and the lens IS if there's one. But if you're using the IBIS make sure that your movements are smooth and walk slow. Just like any other camera with IBIS an abrupt/fast movement will create wobbles. Thats why R6 is great for wedding videos since you do a lot of slow movement and its actually really stable. Also I suggest investing on smallrig and handle. It will make your footage much smoother.

Oh one more question, do you recommend using filters when filming and if so which would you recommend, mainly for filming portrait videos / lifestyle and travel content
Yeh it’s set to 10 bit when you’re in c log mode. The stabilisation is great but I don’t like the ibis warp in the edges. So I turn that off for serious stuff and just rely on the lens IS or the digital stabilisation rather than the ibis.
I use the polar pro VND filter or my own home made mist filter (which I did a video on 😂) if I want to be a bit more creative. Hope that helps man. Thanks for checking out the channel 🙏🏻🎥
Good video. Are you recording this on the R using the Atomos Ninja, external 10 bit 4.2.2 - its great quality. I'm assuming you're also using the 28-70 at 28mm, with the 4k crop? Great overall result with the R - I'm wondering the same as you whether the R6 is worth the upgrade or not.

I can’t remember what lens I used. Maybe the 15-35 or my 24mm. Deffo crop on the 4K with the R unfortunately.

As to overheating, can you tell us how long you ran the video for at a given time. I hear overheating arises at 4k when protracted videotaping, such as 30+ minutes, takes place. Great video and smooth as pie conjures up a great pie. LOL Thanks
Hi Francis. I haven’t had any overheating issues with this camera yet! Which is a bonus 🥳 I’ve been recording professionally with it and recorded 2 hours worth of footage with the camera being on for longer than that and it’s been absolutely fine. Or you could say... smooth as pie 😂 thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@SamHolland I am really interested in hearing for how long you were able to record 4K in a row? I am looking at the R6 as a hybrid shooter, but I do also want to record longer takes (talking head and my drumcovers). I know the Ninja V would alleviate those problems, but that would put the price in the range of the Sony A7S III, although I really don't like using their cameras.
Hi Sam... awesome video really... have you experienced any issues on the camera besides overheating ? Such as the camera freezing in the middle of the recording and then deleting that clip... as well as the camera giving a much warmer image ? Or where these issues fixed in an update ?
Hi. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻 I got the camera since the update so haven’t had any issues what so ever! Which is nice. I was scared to be honest but I have full confidence now as I’ve used it exactly how I always used previous cameras and there hasn’t been any draw backs. 🤞🏻🎥 I would say if I had any problems to warn others but it’s fine.
My R6 overheats in 4K 60 and 4K 24fps. It is a shame. I live in Puerto Rico. Caribbean summer all year around. Although I love the camera, everytime I shoot an interview, it is so annoying to see the overheating warning at about 20 minutes of recording! I am not happy about it. I am just using the camera to record b-roll, stopping and pressing the record button constantly. So sad! Why Sony cameras with similar bodies don't overheat like the Canons? Thanks for the video! Any ideas?
It’s annoying isn’t it. I don’t know why. I guess they still are photo first cameras. They need to bring out some more video centric cameras that aren’t cinema cameras for people like us

Canon c log is fantastic... BUT 10 bit will change your life!! Seriously. It’s so much better. Less noise and beautiful colours! 👌🏻🎥 let me know if you try it
