    I had a few ef lenses and a 5D Mark IV, sold everything, bought the R6MII with a 24-70 2.8 zoom lens and a few rf prime lenses, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The R6MII really is a fantastic camera, and the rf lenses are so much faster when it comes to af, while also improving on basically every other aspect like sharpness, bokeh, and chromatic aberrations. Not to mention the video quality and functionality, which is just a joke on the 5D compared to the R6. Great stuff! ^^

    you can set a button for instant crop. for example, the multifunction button to toggle between full and various crop modes. if you don't have the need to have all the different crop modes, you can remove the ones that you don't want so you can have the multifunction button be between full and the desired crop. also, you do have the control ring to use so you don't waste a button. I use the control ring for ISO.

      That only seems to work for photo but not video. Video is more important for me and even for photo it’s not ideal. On Fuji/Sony I only press a button and it automatically switches to aps-c. I think that could easily be implemented via firmware.

      @@pascalbasel for video, on my R5 I only see cine zoom and cine tele but I guess those wouldn't work for you. but yeah, the cropping mode for video is 4 taps away (menu button, cropping, enable, ok). but for photos, i don't understand why it wouldn't work as you can flip from full to 1.6x which is equivalent to aps-c.

    Thanks for the video, i just bought the R6ii and can't wait to take it underwater.

    Canon shooter here. I started photographing with Canon (10 years ago), and now as I am creating videos (started last year) I use what I have. I was thinking about switching to Sony but... I have a collection of Canon lenses, my favorite is 70-200 F2,8 IS, I love this lens and it's my primary lens for photography and filming unless I do not have enough space (and I also have 35mm Sigma art, the only not-Canon lens). I see that actually I can stay with Canon 😃 If I do upgrade in the future, definitely will be thinking about R6 Mark II, or maybe at this time Canon will have something new with all things you talked about fixed 😁 Thank you for your review!

    Great review, Pascal! I‘m shooting with Canon for more than 20 years and right now a year with the R5C. With the R5 I have had a really big issue: The wobbling you mentioned! For me, unacceptable! I love the R5C and I will not buy a backup if it has IBIS. I mean, there is a reason Canon decided not to put it into the R5C and for video this makes the R5C a real cinema camera! Love the menu too. But battery life is really bad, that is my more or less only issue… You mentioned also the R8… For video I would definitely prefer the R8 over the R6II. Cheers

    Very good review thanks! Something that you didn't mention and many people are complaining about it's the amount of noise that you get on C-Log3, even at the base iso of 800. It's that been a problem for you? Are you denoising many footage in post? thanks again!

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Рік тому +1

      I think the people who really have problems with noise in CLOG3 either expose wrong or are just not experienced working with LOG profiles. Straight out of camera, every log profile, even on Sony gives you a bit of noise in the shadows, but that disappears during the color grade when the shadows get darker. If you underexpose, you might still see it after grading but that's use-error. I either expose CLOG3 with zebra set to 60+-5% for bright skin, or I expose so that it looks good on the screen while having view-assist on and never have any actual problems with noise. I also didn't Denise any of the clips you see in this video. I do have the in-camera noise reduction set to the first stage tough. That might help a bit.

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Рік тому +2

      I think if you’re happy with the S5, the S5ii or x will be the best for you. In my R6ii vs R5, XH2S & a7iv video, you see the differences regarding colors in the vectorscopes. Canon just has more equally distributed colors, what gives it a rich look. That can be achieved with HSL curves for the other cameras. However, the a7iii has Sonys old color science, which is quite bad. Panasonic and newer Sony cameras do better.

    Great video. Canon definitely needs to improve their dynamic range. It's quite noticeable (compared to Sony). The other thing, as a recent Canon (from Sony) adopter, their RF lenses are insanely noisy (especially the 50 and 85 1.2). Sony GM lenses are essentially silent. These RF lenses are pretty much unusable in quiet environments with an onboard mic. The ticking focus noise is ridiculous and something Canon really needs to address. Other than those two things, I much prefer the fit, finish, feel and function of Canon cameras (over Sony).

And Canon could be better for photography, especially wildlife. I only talk about video, so that might also play into the conclusion of other reviewers.

      @@pascalbasel, 100% agree.
      New sub here. I shoot both system.
      Been searching for the perfect hybrid which has been hard as each is designed to have some short comings.
      For Canon, for stills, I use R5. For videos, R5C which has better codecs, more DR (but wished they allow Clog2 but they will save for their Cine line) and no annoying 30min recording limit
      For Sony, for stills I use A7R4 and A9 for wildlife and fast action. Was tempted to sell both for A1 or now A7R5 but will wait for next version with more significant upgrades. For videos, I prefer the the A7S3 over the FX3 due to the EVF as I shoot handheld more and no external monitor. It helps being able to see in bright sun and also I have a point of contact to be more stable handheld.
      I’m looking at the R6m2 as backup to R5 for stills and R5C for video.
      So this video was very helpful. Thank you! 🙏

      @@Tactical_Taco no. Hou can use a cleanfeed to bigger monitor to pull focus and keep settings on smaller screen on most cameras. That’s how I like my set up. This Canon is the first one I’ve ever had that can’t do it.

    Few people really go into depth about the overheating issues with this camera. I feel like most of these reviewers are doing lazy reviews where they ignore the MOST important issues.
    Or maybe they're getting paid to ignore them. Most of these reviewers are basically salesmen, marketers, advertisers, or what have you.

      @@pascalbasel Does no one want high-quality 4k60 footage?
      I guess that maybe no one cares about 4K60 irl, but to me it makes a HUGE difference that is immediately noticeable.
      I've found tons of cameras in my budget where everything boils down to being a matter of taste, or a matter of minor inconvenience, except for one thing - 4K60 capability.
      And real-life 4K60 capability is something that a ton of reviewers gloss over like it's nothing. Maybe you guys have a bunch of different cameras, so you don't care about overheating, since you're switching cameras so often that it doesn't matter.
      My apologies for being gruff - I'm getting very frustrated with camera reviews that focus on everything except the fact that cameras like the R6 Mark II have overheating issues in 4K60 mode.
      I've noticed that every 4K60-capable camera that has overheating issues is excluded from the Netflix-approved list. Gee, I wonder why.

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  6 місяців тому

      4K60 is only good for sports. It doesn’t make any sense for talking head videos and makes it actually worse for viewers with slow internet connections as it needs more bandwidth. So for me and most others, 60p is only there for slow motion but nothing else.

    • @myblacklab7
      @myblacklab7 6 місяців тому

      @@pascalbasel Internet speeds seem to be limiting a lot of what people can see these days. I suppose that 4K60 is worse than pointless for people who cannot stream it, and pointless for people who do not have a 4K60-capable display.
      I know a gamer who has a 4k120 display, but he can't stream 4k60 video, much less 4K120 video, because his internet is too slow.
      I wouldn't say that 4K60 is ONLY good for sports - there are many reasons why I like 4K60, and 60fps comes into play pretty much any time that motion of any type is involved.
      I surmise that you are saying that at the professional level, 4K/30 or lower is the order of the day, unless one is shooting sporting events. I defer to your expertise on that.
      I guess it makes sense to ignore 4K60 for everything but slow-motion, if one is never requested to deliver 4K60 footage to any client.
      Did you know that NFL games usually aren't shown in 4K? You could probably get better-quality footage of an NFL game with your R6 Mark II than the NFL gets with any of its "Live" cameras. That's kinda crazy, if you think about it, although with the R6 Mark II you would overheat quickly in 4K60 mode. ;)

    Hold back for now if you intend buying any pro cameras as operating systems are finally going to be changed to the one similar to that of the smart phones.
    So we can shoot and relay contents to the outside world directly without transferring footages into computer first & much faster. It will transforms the whole experience. It would be a world apart for sure.
    Present operating systems as we know are pretty much outdated.
