One of best intros from anyone lately
@@MrWashesp lmao

I could fill a pool with the laughing tears from that. Perfection
Okay i got caught offguard but the intro is hilarious!😂
I love how Mrs Wizard cuts right to the chase. I'm also glad Car Wizard didn't throw his back out in the intro. 😅
She was pretty "handy" with that zipper!
Bravo for your honesty and kindness to your customers. Be the good you want to see in the world! 👏👏👏
Paul Belanger: There is no honesty, actually, there is dishonesty, there is no compressor, no ice cold A/C.
T'es de quel endroit Paul?
You Kansas folks have a treasure. A mechanic who is knowledgeable and ethical.
But remember this guy supports a big Corporation such as Amazon and not your local stores and then he tries to put it in a lot of plugs on his lifts that are in the shop it's all about corporate sponsors
He still has ethics, otherwise he's charge the customer what other shops quoted.
You pay your overhead or close. At least four people are making a living because of The Wizard.
@@mikewaite3746 There is nothing wrong with business. That's what makes the world go round. Car Wizard seems to run a good business doing the job properly and has happy customers. You should feel privileged that he shares his experience with us. We can all learn from him and I really enjoy his videos over here in the UK.
@Steve Raznick makes you wonder of the prior owner just got the engine block at a junkyard
@Steve Raznick I'm starting to get really bored with the Car Jizzard and hoovies garage. At first I thought hoovies was cool but now he's just one stereotypical UA-cam douchebagers. His whole Spiel is that he acts like a dumbass when you consider his background and how many franchises he owns give me a break! You think he would sell a couple of his Lamborghinis to help out his employees who got laid off during the pandemic?
I'm 6-4 and when I was 19 spent 3 hours in the back of a 1982 911SC that belonged to a my best friend's mother. I went with her to visit him one weekend at boarding school. On the way up I rode in the passenger seat, but he came back with us so I rode in the back seat the whole way back. I had to sit sideways, but it wasn't bad and I fell asleep listening to the sound of that sweet engine.
I sure miss mine. Bought it in '86 w/ 14K miles. Sold it in 2015 w/ 195K miles. Loved, loved, loved it. What a joy to drive.
LOVE the intro! And Mrs. Wizard fly by, "You really look stupid" LOL
You're gonna need more than orthopedic shoes and arthritis cream tomorrow morning after that intro!
And the back end would overtake rhe front of you were not paying attention when bwing en enthusiastic
Wizard, you are a saint. Many garages gouge Porsche owners. Nice to know there are professionals like yourself that are not greedy. It's still not cheap but it's a fair price.
The Wizard is getting more and more comfortable as each week passes in front of the camera. Last week he was compared to a condom and rolled with the joke like a pro.
He's come a long way from looking into the camera as if he was lobotomised.
@@AxeGaijin Mrs. Wizard has some funny lines too like no hanky panky back here for sure
"...you look really stupid."
I think that speaks volumes about Hoovie. 🤣
The Wizard does it better, if you ask me
I mean he even says "the dumbest automotive chanel in all of UA-cam" while doing that dance. :D Hoovie making fun of himself that way makes him that much more relatable. Glad I found his and the Wizard's channels.
@@L0RDLUK ditto. They have replaced my coworkers banter since I’ve been forced to work from home.
Respect for the tremendous skill and knowledge.
i could see the fear in the wizard eyes waiting for that zipper to break!
Wizard, the 3.0 SC only has two cams. Also these cars always leak oil. When you take the valve covers check the head studs.
You are correct. He should do a maintenance valve adjust at minimum. I'd drop the motor and change all the seals 3 hours at the most.
I just pissed myself, excellent. Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks, excellent start 🤣🤣🤣
I’d hope a valve adjustment was done too. If the covers are leaking that may have been neglected already.
"No hanky panky back here."
Next sound you hear is a Zipper. ☺️
You can hanky pank in the front seat .Slide passenger seat back and there is plenty of room to kneel in front of the passenger
The Wizard has become elite content! Very professional yet not overly done! I love these old 80's air cooled 911s. I was born in '82 so this one really caught my eye.
Not only did you get the job Wizard, you got a customer for life, nice work
I'm Digging the Disco .. Overlander
in the back.... hopefully a future walk around.
Same
One of my few aspirations in life is to hear Car Wizard refer to one of my cars as "very nice"
I don't dare hope for "immaculate" as I'm a realistic person
I like that this old cars are made to be serviced and they did not try to hide access points, but they were proud of them.
I owned a similar car. A 911 SC 3.0 -82 in dark blue metallic. I had the original whale tail spoiler, but I notice that the front spoiler is missing on Wizards car. It's very important to have both spoilers or none, for aerodynamic stability.
Aw, it's Kansas. How bad could things get?
Wizard is all about the comfy seats 😆
the wheels and the chunky tires look so nice
No German automobile manufacturer would add that headliner zipper these days. Instead, you'd need to add 5 hours of labor to R&R the headliner, every time you needed to work on the sunroof.
I like how your car show is a car show yet more details on mechanical stuff really cool to see from your point of view
Hey Wizard, the 911's whale tail is called "Frittentheke" over here in Germany which kind of means a desk where you have your fish and chips with Ketchup.
In France, it's called "bec de canard" which translate into duck beak
@@jordanrudler2120 Rather "queue de canard", for duck's tail :)
@@ericbergerolle6086 I've heard the two names, even among porsches enthusiasts

I loved having a 944. I need to get another. I hated telling people I drove a Porsche because they assume you are a wealthy snob. I was like dude, your new civic cost 4 times what I paid for my car.
Literally me. I have a 924 cause 944 are 25 grand here, but if you say you have a porsche immediately they think you are an a***ole....and you can see it. I love the car tho.
Will I am an asshole so they got me there. I also correct people who pronounce it Porsch
@@pkt1213 and the wizard is right, the seats look "sporty" but are actually incredibly confortable.
Watching this early in the morning Western Australian Time, I laughed out loud so much from that intro I nearly woke the neighborhood. Mrs Wizard's reaction is priceless.
Beautiful car.
I love those 4 post lifts.
I admire your honesty and your straight forward approach to things Wizard.
I wish you continued success.
A former father in-law has this one from ‘77 in an original factory wide body in baby blue. He’s loyal to his baby for over 35 years now, although he remarried 5 times in the meantime. The car is immaculate and maintained by the same mechanic since he bought her. He drives the car for a day every week for 35 years now, and he knows what he’s doing. In the nineties we raced from Amsterdam to Bruxelles under 90 minutes. Love that car.
8:55 The reenactment of their honeymoon spoken word for word. :D
Underrated comment
I am a Porsche enthusiast, currently with numbers 5 and 6 ('77 911RSR and 971 Panamera E-Hybrid) but I just cannot love that Heinz Tomato Soup colour.
Please keep in mind that the oil leak near the oil cooler can also be the either the thermostat on top of the engine, the oil pressure switch, the gasket of the crankcase breather or the temp sensor. They are all in the same vicinity near the flywheel side of the engine on the top side. It is actually more common that the leak originates from there than one of the red donuts of the oil cooler itself. On the 3.2 engines there is a thin part in the aluminium of the case and when rebuilding it you have to put some epoxy on there as it can sweat some oil. That part is behind the oil cooler.
Also, for the valve covers you can get newer versions with a small bead of silicon on them. Victor Reinz produce these. Especially for the lower ones they help a LOT!
Have fun fixing it!
So nice to see good honest mechanics are still out there.
That spoiler was a factory option. Looks-wise it's pretty similar to the then-current turbo-spoiler, although I think the turbo's was a bit meatier. IIRC the turbo had a thicker rubber lip and it had a boxy "base" linking the wing to the hood. I think that "box"-design was needed on later turbo models, to make room for the intercooler that was sitting on top of the engine.

Yes, duck tails, whale tails, turbo tails, and once we start talking race cars, "MOAR TAIL!
You could see the concern on wizards face when his wife was zipping the headliner 🤣
The zippers are as old as the car and can be brittle.
@@carterames7214 Yeah and good luck ever finding another one
A zipper in the headliner is actually a cool idea if you need some repairs. Beats tearing everything off and hoping it'll stick again after you're done.
@@jackbauer4607 its mainly for manually closing sunroof in case no power.
@@jackbauer4607 Ikr. It's great that the engineers thought about the ease of future servicing/repairs. Something that is sadly lacking in the design philosophy inherent in most modern cars. I was just looking at the windscreen on my car the other day. I'd say you'd have to dismantle a good deal of surrounding body trim to replace it, not to mention the various sensors stuck to it inside. It's just crazy. The labour to replace the windscreen would be significant.
I would love to see more actual wrenching and learning from your experience. Your wife is the best automotive videographer I have ever seen. She rarely ever misses a part that you point out and is quick with the lighting. Always spot on.
Loved the start, made me laugh, especially Mrs Wizard’s comment. Love air cooled 911’s. As a retired Audi tech and working on a number of 911’s when you had trunk lid up I said perfect “ no AC” , then you mentioned about the AC, I didn’t see a compressor ( usually R/ side) and the condenser would be mounted under trunk lid.
I was wondering the same, its weird
The 911SC was certainly available with factory fitted whale-tail.
We picked up a new guards red 911SC targa from the Stuttgart factory in March ‘78 (ordered it through Porsche dealer in Australia) and it came with a factory all-black rear spoiler.
I guess it was chosen from amongst the factory options list.
It wasn’t identical to the 930 Turbo whale-tail at the time but was similar in shape and size.
I'm 58 and grew up idolizing the early 80's 911 SC's. I just bought a 1982 911 SC on December 20th and it has the factory whale tail and front chin spoiler. It's very cool to hear from someone who bought one brand new.
@@24hourgmtchannel64
Nice to hear from you and congratulations on the great Xmas present.
Our whale-tail looked like a rubber unit that had been attached to the standard boot-lid …. not like the Turbo at the time which had more of a metal + rubber integrated one.
My wife (then girlfriend) and I still smile when we see similar 911s now and recall how we would use the whale-tail as a picnic table for our bread-stick, cheese and wine lunches as we hippied our way around Europe.
We had a routine of parking the car out of sight when we were seeking youth hostel accommodation too.
Australia had 100% vehicle import duty back in those days but for a few years there was a rule that you could bring a car in duty free if you owned it overseas for 15 months.
Anyway have great time with that special car :).
I meant to add the point of the picnic table story …..
the car returned to Australia with several bread-board type knife marks on the whale-tail!
Wow a car company that thought ahead on how to have an access to repair something.
ikr!
@CarWizard I'm a "car guy" and I'm consistently impressed with not just your textbook knowledge, but you ACTUALLY WORK ON these amazing machines!!

The car Wizard is a gentleman, an absolute gentleman...
You are a very good mechanic. I take my 993 to a Porsche specialist.
Top man. I'm very pleased the Wizard is being recognised as a super mechanic.. They are few and far between - Pure gold for someone who loves their car.
wow prob the first sunroof Ive seen on one of these older cars actually being operated - normally people approach the sunroofs on older cars with extreme apprehension and rightfully so! thanks for posting this.
The "heat shield" is actually a heat exchanger.
The front and rear spoilers must be mounted together, not just the rear like on this one (as per Porsche and also Paul Frere). If the suspension is set up correctly, there is no need for the spoilers, unless you are racing the car.
The 3.3 liter engine is the turbo, different body.
An air-cooled 911 engine not leaking oil is a reason for serious concern, as there is probably no oil in it.
The old saying the only aircooled Porsche that doesn't leak is one that has no oil.
Dayum, do I ever admire your work ethics Mr.Wizard !!!
my fav 911 of all times in the red.....I must have one before I die...82 or 83 model is my fav of all time.
I have known the owner for 40+ years. He looked for years for this car and treats it like a baby. It's great he finally found a good honest mechanic! Can't wait to see it at the next Cars and Coffee in Wichita.
I need to get a "Flat Six Club" sticker for my Corvair!😂
Don't pull a hammy Weeezard! We can't have you on the injured list! I thought I also saw a 993 in the background of another Wizard installment.
It would probably have been a good idea to replace both sunroof cables on a 39 year old car. When they were in warranty we would only replace one cable but after this much time you already have it apart and there is almost no extra labor. You are right about it being a common problem. We replaced hundreds of them on Porsche and bmw
Thanks for showing us the 911SC and those awesome Bendpaks!!
I always thought the Porsche Slant Nose cars were so beautiful back in the day....heck even in this day they are still sweet cars 😎
they are iconic lookswise and fun to drive if you manage it well, but the rest is mostly meh, loud, ugly low end interior and build is so-so. Yes I've had enough to do with them, no would not want one. In fact I'd take most other cars over one of those things, the older Mercs for example have some real magic going for them, as do BMW.
@@noth606 I'm a fan of the air cooled VW/Porsches. In the family we have a 60 bug convertible engine/trans original to the car.. been in the family since 1963. My Dad still drives it several days a week. Easy to work on and extremely reliable in the old fashioned sense. Porsche wise i love the 1950's spyders. Good luck ever finding one of those original... Think our bug is as close as i will every get to owning anything even remotely close haha👍😎
Not sure if your comment is addressed at this particular car, which is not a slant nose. Those where 930’s and did not have the bulging headlights. I did some work on one, and I hated the looks of it, but I guess it boils down to tastes.
@@engineerinnewyork no wasn't meant towards this particular car I just always like the slant nose Porsches I thought they were nice looking design but I mean if I were to buy a Porsche it would be a 1950s era spider you know like from the 1960s down I like those air cooled engines.. not so much these later ones like this particular car in this video
@@eppyz Each to their own, I've been offered several Porches to buy for very good prices, turned them down. But then again the same with Ferraris and a bunch of other interesting cars, and turned most of those down as well. I can accept a car needing expensive maintenance if it does what I want in the way I want, and that is where old Porches and Ferraris fail. It's a preference thing but I am not a fan of bad interiors or lackluster performance, regardless of badges. Friends have Porsches etc but they are not my thing. The one car I can accept a lot of flaws from is a Ferrari Testarossa, but I was never in the position to buy one, and honestly it is not that great of a car objectively speaking. Toyota, Mitsubishi and VW have been what I found most agreeable, and then ones that will blow the doors off old Ferraris and Porsches.
those speakers in the door are hilarious... Look like miniature concert speakers just crammed in there.
I had a 1986 Porsche Carrera when I was young just could not drive 55 eventually had to sell it cheap for 20k (bought it for 36k) before the cop threw me to prison for speeding over 100s (almost at one time). I fixed dash curling on my 300zx while restoring it. The foam padding on the inside of the dash had deteriorated enough in one location that the glue holding it to the plastic was gone. I filled the area with 2 part epoxy and used some adjustable plastic clamps to keep the dash squeezed together until it cured. Looking at it afterwards, I can't tell that it ever had the issue. The trick is don't squeeze it together too hard to deform the foam or plastic.
hilarious intro weezurd😂👍
Yep...beautiful.
That sunroof mechanism is exactly the same as on a 928, only the later has a cover that snaps off for access instead of a zipper.

a lift and a tool are two different things though.
@@RockyRepairs Yes, but both require a compressor (and I'm guessing a pretty girthy one for the lifts[1]) plus piping/general setup; which is exactly the sort of thing Wizard did not want/feel the need to upgrade/invest $$$ on.
To put in context, in the one video he was complaining about compressed air salesmen, he stated "we didn't even turn the compressor on today" was not an uncommon occurrence.
[1]: Haven't rewatched the video, but I believe Bendpak threw the compressor for the whole system with the lifts; they'd "only need to bolt the compressor somewhere and run some pipes/wires" 😅
First shop I worked at had a '79 911 Turbo (930) sitting in a corner collecting dust. Apparently it was a customer's car but for some reason or another nothing had been done with it for many years. About a year after of me being there, we dug the old girl out of the corner and got her running again. I don't remember what was wrong with the car since this was back in 1996.
