Urban Outlaw - Rebel Porsche Customizer
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 гру 2024
- A portrait of Magnus Walker, the rebel Porsche customizer who turned a hobby into an obsession, and an obsession into a successful business. From a workshop in downtown Los Angeles, Magnus obsessively harvests fragments from donor 911s, grafting them onto vintage frames to create one-off automobiles with the spirit of Ferdinand Porsche but an ethos entirely his own.

You say you dont know any 'bearded porsche guys out there', well i saved all my life for my porsche spyder and i finally got one at 47.
I love nothing better than to break the mould by going out in my spyder as the bearded metalhead that defines who i am, and hopefully change peoples perceptions of these beautiful, amazing cars that are attainable to what i am, with dedication.. a working class man.
These are achievable , attainable cars...unlike ferrari and lambos etc. The fender strat of the car world if you will.
I’ve always thought that if I win a lottery, the first thing I’d do is build my own automotive restoration shop. The idea of taking a classic car that’s in rough shape and getting it back to its glory is so appealing to me. I get jealous when I see guys like this who are able to do it. I’d have to hire people to help me through as I know basically NOTHING about how to restore a car properly. I just know it’s my dream !
here is a character who beats his own drum, driven by passion, has intelligence that is humble, and doesnt care what people think of him, my type of guy. This Video is well done and very entertaining to say the least.
This guy gets it. Cars have a soul and you can really have a relationship with them. Same with motorcycles.
Absolutely!!
THATMOFODIRT Yeah ok, you just have to be fine with being called objectophile.
There was this Indian guy in a movie telling the police he'd lost his wife (his car). Now I understad haha
I agree!✌😎👍
I dont get it to me cars are just cars to go from a to b
Life changing film. Still so good to watch 10 or 15 years down the road.
Ive watched about 10 of Magnus's videos and they only get better and better. I like hearing about his passion for Porsche, in 2014 people are too caught up in technology and celebrity drama to have a passion.. Everyone sort of "likes" everything but loves nothing. I really like when he starts talking about leather working! Im an artist myself in many fashions, you always have to have multiple loves instead of one so you dont wear your mind out.
Man... I didn't want it to end! As a Porsche owner, that was the best video to wake up to with a cup of coffee... Now it's my turn to go drive!
Sad to hear Magnus's wife passed away today. This movie becomes heritage.
really? Oh no. :(
Stan Redoute Do you know what the circumstances were?
I've watched or had this as background noise so many times as I've worked on my Porsche's, VW's and Audis. I feel these cars with the same passion, love and frustration. As I type this I'm pulling the engine & transmission on my b5 S4 Audi to swap my clutch and to fix leaks. Thank you Magnus.
The dude is most American non-American I've ever seen. Drippin with coolness O_O
Mark Sneddon that magnficent hair, omg
Mark Sneddon "smiles per hour" words to live by 👍😎
I watch this at least once a year and it never gets old.
It goes from a live version of Humbe Pie's "Black Coffee" (the guy talking in the intro) and then switches to the album version of the song when the song actually starts. I thought that was an interesting touch.
Here is a guy that's is living his dream.
There are NO old Porsches. Just new Owners.
you should sell that exactly phrase to Porsche. epic!
He's one of my biggest inspirations. And I dream of the day that I get a possible chance of meeting him in person. His passion is just remarkable.
Hey man. It says it’s been 4 years. Have you met him?
@@Jsh0w sadly not 😞 I still hope I get the chance some day.
I just met him today! He was so nice!
That’s nice , does he smell as dirty as he looks?
Magnus is a great role model and an inspiration for many. He’s the definition of success and what can come when you follow your dreams and never let anyone tell you that you can’t make them come true. Whenever I see anything with Magnus and Karen I can’t help but feel sad for him because you can see how much they loved each other. It was very unfortunate that he lost the love of his life at such a young age. Magnus has kept moving forward but I can imagine he misses her every day and would give anything to have her back. I’m sure she’d be proud of him today and where he’s going in life. Each day brings a new adventure and Magnus is the type that loves that about life.
Everyone whо tightens the lug nuts on his wheels with a torque wrench deserves respect :)
Well it's normal thing to do! ;) 100daN for mines
There are torque specs for almost every car but usually no one uses a torque wrench :D
A shame! Especially for sensible things like wheels balance and such. It's not that expensive and is so smooth to use. 😃
+MyName MyName ther is only 4 so it actually is crossed any way you do it.
+Radostin Velchev I never use a torque wrench at work ( I repair / assemble electrical traction motors ) & they never return, well after 3 years of running they return for a service BUT when I work on my Porsche I always get out MR Torque wrench !
Magnus you are an inspiration. You are articulate and very easy to listen to. I'm not a car person but listening to you and your life journey can inspire others to follow their passion and to be a success. To be a success you do not need top marks at school you just have to draw on your own beliefs and run with it. Magnus you are a breath of fresh air, congratulations on all your success.
Magnus is one of my heroes, not because of his love of Porsches but his love of cars. He GETS it.
You can tell he is truly passionate about no only his work, but life in general. Thanks for being stateside and thank you for this documentary!
At 24:50 he says “Out of body experience” if one would leave the road where he’s driving when he says that it would be just that. God bless Magnus. Love his work!
Without a doubt he has an amazing gift. I thought what they did with the house looked great as well. Some people can look past all the rust, and see it's potential. I'm 4 yrs late, but it didn't sour with age, great documentary!!!
It's great to listen to someone who's so passionate about something, but who also bucks the trend or stereotype of something.
The 911 made between 1964 and 1973 are my favourite. They are something of their own
I have watched this Docu a few times now and its still mind blowing what he does Any chance of an URBAN OUTLAW 2021 update
Once you own a 911. Nothing else really feels right. I don't know what it is but, it's a in your soul thing. Thanks to the US Army for letting me live 1985 - 88 where it was born.
Hard to beleive this was 10 years ago!
This guy is definitely a visionary.
Seems like the coolest, id love to spend a day or couple around the shop. Porsche is my favorite car in the world! Magnus glad you ended up in the states!
This guy knows everything! Out of body experience when driving. I feel it...
that description is so spot on :)
Perfection on a car is having the imperfections of the hands in the hidden details of the car.
Magnus Walker...
A true, honest, craftsman with an automotive soul that reaches deep into the hearts of many. I totally dig him.
968 owner and LA County born and raised. Only in California...this guy is great.
I met Magnus at Le Mans 17, he asked what I drove when I said a 968..." one of the best handling Porsches of all time was his reply." and that he was lookibg to get one himself. He's a top guy and the people he was talking to before were name dropping you could tell he wanted out of that conversation, when he spoke to me and my friend about porsches totally different persona. a true petrolhead.
Paul Taylor KF right on Paul. He seems like a great guy. I’m new to my 968, but so far I’m liking it more than my bmw m3. Great cars.
Magnus Walker is so chill, like you can call him anything mean and he will really be like "ok fine by me" and maybe think of a epic comeback
I am so glad you ended up in America. Welcome.
Not being funny, but the English have always been there.
tezzer p i'm just glad to see his beard made it too!
most fucked up country in the world and NO knowledge about cars.
MemoryLaneCinema Not even remotely accurate, and I've found American's to be extremely knowledgeable about cars, obviously there are people who know nothing about cars but you can find them anywhere around the world.
Kyle Hanger They do know there stuff, and if I had my time again, I'd be there helping Magnus because the greatest thing about the states, is the climate, not like in Blighty rust city central. Those early Porsches have a better chance of surviving there. Now where's my passport.......
By far the most interesting man in the world.
Mr Walker does amazing things with these 911s
Magnus you are inspiring. I was in the car world for about 25 yrs. Now due to physical limitations I am having to start my life over. It's came with a great deal of depression but, there's hope.
man his wheel fitment on all his cars are perfect!
I have been a fan of his since I watched his TED talk. Reading his book now. This guy has more creative energy in his pinky than I could ever have. Magnus is a serious craftsman and a polymath. I hope I can share a drink with him and just pick his brain about passion projects. I live two hours away from him, who knows, dreams do come true.
Everything about this man is pure win. Total and utter respect for your skill and attitude Mr. Walker.
I just found about him today and he deserves lots of respect. He is a true inspiration. When i go to LA i will visit him to chat. Great human being with his great story. Kudos to this dude.
Thanks for saying hi at the historic races at Laguna Seca this weekend. My son was in the car, big Need for Speed fan, and he could not believe we spotted you at the gate on Thursday. Hope you had a great weekend! Keep up the good videos.
Man, I can't believe how many haterz are on here. This guy is just doing his thing with cars he loves and doesn't give a f***. What the hell's wrong with that?
That's people..:(
i only see positive coments...
Beautifully filmed... beautiful, beautiful cars. Atmospheric and informative. Cant beat that really eh !!
Woah nice late discover of this documentary. I like the direction, de footage, the edit, the color, the music, and... the story for sure. Very nice job.
How cool is that?
Nice to see someone create a life and make a living based on his passion.
I'm sure he has no trouble selling any of his cars, etc.
Well he just made sewing look cool.. God damn!
Thumbs up, first clip that explains the story behind Magnus.
Love this episode! What a love and passion for Porsches!!👏👏👏 ..and what a spectacular California Coast roads background for ride in these Porsches !!
Magnus Walker é quanto di più si avvicina ad un artista contemporaneo, a livello dei più grandi!!!magnifico documentario!!Wow!!!
Air-cooled Porsches are pure art, nothing is more rewarding to drive
I met Magnus at an outlaw event last summer in Brooklyn. Seemed like a nice guy. Would probably be fun to have a beer with.
One of the most inspiring videos of all time. I feel liberated seeing this video. Thanks for posting this.
Excellent insight into the mind of a genuine genius!
Its like jack sparrow and rob zombie had a movie child...
I do like his business model and his ideas. I feel the same about my cars. Being a career auto mechanic I get how some may misconstrue the "sales pitch". But all in all I like your videos and your personality, at least as far as the videos are concerned. I look forward to meeting you someday. Keep up the good work.
this video is so cool its the second time im watching it. The way he makes that leather door handle! Craftsmanship at its finest!
Perfect video.
What a legend.
Motivating, inspiring, he gets the raw driving experience, and the soul of cars, and describes it through his art.
Passion at it's best.
How could you not love a guy with the name Magnus and a beard that awesome.
Wow, their living space is incredible too. I was not expecting the interior decor to be as equally as awesome as the cars. This inspires me. Makes me appreciate porsches even more.
THE most beautiful 911s I've ever seen.
does anyone else get a chilling feeling when he is driving down that canyon road as the sun is setting? That's the stuff that is worth living for...
This was INCREDIBLE! Love the story, love the passion, love how it was all put together. Inspirational.
Love the 64, especially the paint and livery, nice job.
I bought my first Porsche a 99 Boxster last year. I never been sooo in love with a car before. I've owned and rebuilt Corvette's, MG's & Spitfire's but driving a Porsche is something completely different. Magnus is correct when he says "Porsche is Passion".
Porsche should sponsor him and make a movie he is like the biggest commercial that they have! the GOD OF PORSCHE!
Thank you for the great tweeks to an already great car, nothing sounds like an early 911. You are an artist....................
I totally understand how he feels about his cars! Great video Thanks!
I recently learned (or can I say met?) about Magnus, fascinating character, the ultimate car enthusiast. Great video.
This man is by far one of my greatest inspirations.
Outstanding film! Makes me wonder....why did I sell all of my Porsche's?
Great choice of music for driving through the hills
Gunpoint - what Porsche is to those who just do not understand :) Keep on, BRO. Cheers from OZ from an antipodean Kraut :)
Hey man - wear a hairnet or double - bend and a hairband around machinery, man! The missus is a real keeper/corker, too - never let her go :)
This man...he understands
awesome. discovered him on his tedtalk and just all hit home. go with your gut. I just wanna go to L.A. and try to con him into a job
Seen your speech on TED talk inspiring to say the least love the pad looks great love your collection amazing
What a legend! Just not sure he can claim Porsche never did lourvred deck lids. Have a look at the stunning Carrera Abarth GTL - serious louvred boot lids there.
Amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed watching this documentary.
Dude! I dig your style you've got a whole hippy thing goin'.
he has nothing to do with hippies!!! nothing
When I first saw the type 904 on a poster in the Porsche dealership in Innsbruck in 1964, I fell in love. The rest was history. I owned at tricked out 1966, thanks to parts from Vasic Pollack. R suspension, American Mags, fat tires, S heater boxes, and the factory racing muffler, it was hella fast (Tahoe to Sac in 1 hr 5 minutes- the XKE didn't know what hit'm)
What a vid,Magnus rocks.Please put a shop in the uk...x
There is no way this guy is human. He is just too much cool.
Great Video! I guess I'm obsessed with my MKIV R32! 😃
Love it when I see him and Nakai-san together
Whooo!!! Love this Guy!!! Damn I hear him!!! I've still got and love the first car I've ever owned. 1996 Accord.... Lol. But I've loved it. Shit I've got an A.P. 15400. Yet, I still love my Ol' Girl. Need a Porsche stat... Lol. I've also worked at the new and used family sports store since I was 13... So, I get the used vibe, it's my ethos to customize and upgrade....
this man is a Porsche certified badass
Love guys with such a passion. Would like to meet him someday. Fan to another.
Simply mind blowing! This is someone who follows what he feels - through determination, commitment and vision we can be brilliant. Love it!
What a cool video, cool guy and cool cars. And the brothers a Fellow brit :)
Maybe need a cool 70s 911 in my stable. Thanks for posting.
Seen this a couple dozen times it never gets old
Great documentary. Well done. I loved it.
When I look at Magnus Walker, he reminded me someone that has a beard and also a customizer who modifieds a Lotus Elise with a K20 motor in it. He appeared in America Touge 3 when he beat all the other tuners that were participate in that event. You can find the video on GTChannel's channel
Absolutely spectacular, so well done! Wanted to see this for awhile after I saw Magnus on Jay Leno's garage. What a great film with some awesome and well done cars!
This vid hits you in the feels
Magnus and Nakai-san are my inspiration with their love for a car. The passion they have is just amazing...
Brilliant. A true craftsman. Absolutly love what they did with the building they live in. Wow.
BTW what is the car at 12:12 ?
So inspirational wan an epic short film, all the respect the Magnus and his supporting wife!
What a fantastic well pieced doco... Great passionate guy too.
Not all sociopaths kill people.
Great work!
inspiring. thanks for sharing your story
