    I've had my Autodod for a few months now and for the first time in my short reloading life I'm looking forward to turning necks

    That is a very nice piece of machinery. I have been wanting to get that for awhile, and I will soon😊. Great review John. Oh, it is a crochet hook according to my wife. 🤣

    Thanks for taking the time to do the deep dive this tool deserves, John. This is an expensive piece of kit and most folks contemplating it will find your video enormously helpful.
    One thing... I noticed when you were taking neck thickness measurements with your micrometer that you only took 1-2 measurements, very close together. The true test of a neck turning process is how precise and how concentric the resulting case neck is. If you were to measure your case neck, rotate the case just a smidge, take another measurement, rotate another smidge, take another measurement, etc., etc.... until you've captured 10-12 measurements around the entire case neck circumference, you'd be able to see what the minimum and maximum neck thicknesses are. The obvious desire is to have zero variance, to have a dead-even thickness all around the neck. Producing that requires a dead-straight case neck before you begin, however. And then a tool/process which maintains that. That's the rub.
    If you decide to do that, to make those kind of measurements of brass coming out of the IDOD/ADOD, I'd love to hear your results.

    Thank you John for use my 🔺Delta No OIL Lube🇮🇹 …. I really appreciate 🍷👌
    For better use and less waste you can use a simple plastic cap to wet the neck since IDOT works on both the outside and the inside and leave to dry upside down without washing. Once dry you will find a constant closure of the ammunition with a very low SD.
    Sandro.

      Thank u’ so much… Hot water is cheap, maybe you don't have the money to buy Lube. You can use canned tuna oil…😂😂😂

    @F-Class John, great overview of the AUTODOD. I'm glad to see you finally got one. The T Handle is a nice new addition. I got mine in 2022 and it only had the hex wrench.
    It would be great to see your next brass prep and loading steps after turning. Do you Neck size ect. ect? What neck tension do you apply?
    I've done all kinds of experiments including AMP Annealing after turning. It's really interesting to see how smooth the curves are when using the AMP Press after using the AUTODOD.

    Hey John thanks for the video. Very interesting. Did you have to use special die on brass to get neck concentric before using the IDOD? Appreciate it.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  9 місяців тому +1

      Nope, just shoot it and turn is what they recommend. That's about the straightest the brass will get. You're actually more likely to run into problems if you try running brass through a die before turning.

    Sweet machine,but,it sounds like the motor bearings are a bit " sloppy" ? Have you ever taken a dial indicator and checked the runout on your 5C collet assembly. This will affect how true your neck remains to the cartridge wall. Just wondering??

    Would this machine remove or lessen the donut inside the case?

  • @kenmcvie6350
    @kenmcvie6350 9 місяців тому

    Hi John,, question time! After neck turning, the inside dia of the neck is obviously too big for a bullet, so how do you get it back to the correct size [2-3 thou less than bullet dia] Do you then use a bushing sizing die, or some other method.?

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  9 місяців тому

      Yes that's correct. After turning I'll then run them through my sizing die and continue brass prep as usual.

  • @1clnsdime1

    So the dial is not how fast it moves in rapid but how far it moves in rapid. That was a little confusing at first.

    WOW! Just $2700.00. Must be nice to have some excess cash or have someone give you the product to use and evaluate. Wonder if the improvement in accuracy will actually allow you to win back the money spent?

      Aereaux - I don’t think many people shoot to “win back the money” (which is spent on equipment).
