Nice video tysm. I wanna ask you a question,what is the best method to combine vst in the same MIDI channel? I was trying for example to add Massive to a Channel with Vital but It replaces the other synth. I wanna try new vst and some are kinda like effects,so i'm wondering how to add them as a effect. Instrument rack maybe si the way? THX and sorry if this comment is too long😅
What I am trying to understand is if you can use a single VST to play multiple instruments on different tracks. To explain, I want to use the VST ReFX Nexus in a song. I want to create different midi tracks using different sounds, but using only a single instance of Nexus. Is it possible?

Appreciated your vid - thanks! Any tips for a guy who's already installed a bunch of VST plug ins before viewing your vid and learning that Ableton likes all its VST plug-ins to be in one folder (unlike some other DAWs). I'm tempted to point the VST folder be simply C: program files. I read that you can make shortcuts from these various VST folders and the shortcuts in the Ableton-specified VST folder. I like how you labeled it C:VST/64.
Many of my VSTs have 2-3 folders located in the computer ( I think some are dlls, maybe Wave files? etc.
Aany tips are appreciated.

I thought I needed to buy a drum vst to expand my possibilities.... I ended up with Komplete Kontrol from NI and studio drummer. Cool sounds but I cant figure out how to get them into the piano roll, or even get them into a clip just as they are. So could you do a lesson on using a VST like studio drummer? Also a lesson on making a simple drum intro, and or fill, and where to put them?

While checking out drum packs, a link took me to a page that looked like I could get 11 lite. Will I still have 10? if I get 11 am I going to be able to use anything I've learned here? or is it a whole new learning curve?

Can you do a tutorial on how to use minilab 3 with ableton live, from basic setup to doing a simple track just like this with that midi keyboard.

Hi! Complete noob here. I just got myself a Scarlett 2i2 and i'm having a blast with a Fortin NTS suite plugin. Now, how do I record the sound from the Fortin plugin into Ableton? Feel free to point me to the correct video you made, link, type or anything :) TYVM!
Load it as a VST plug-in on an audio track inside Ableton Live. You wouldn't want to have the standalone version open and record the output into Live. If you record with it as a plug-in on an audio track you can adjust the settings after.
Great tutorial bro! What is the difference between vst and vst 3?
VST is an older technology. There are a bunch of new features with VST 3 that the developer can use. The main benefit is that it doesn't use CPU when it's not actively processing audio.

I only have a question: when I record what I play with my vst appears the piano roll but not the waveform. I want to know if I can modify the wave that the piano roll is playing, i.e. if I want to do a fade out how can I modify it?. Thanks (I hope you could understand my question).
It doesn't show the waveform because MIDI does not contain any audio information. If you want to create fades you can either freeze and flatten the track to audio or use automation in the arrangement view.

Yep they have Ableton Live listed as a supported DAW on their website.
Hi, I use Keys Step Pro to control and sequence some digital synthesizers installed in Ableton, including Dune 3, Arturia Pigment, etc.. I create music which is composed of several Synthesizer Presets. When I'm playing the song live, and I need to change from one Preset to another, I go into the Sound Bank of the respective Synthesizer and select the Preset to change. I ask: Is there a way in Ableton itself, or a Plugin, that I can select the Presets of each Synthesizer and from this selection/mapping I can activate the preset that I will use? As if it were a screen that showed the Tracks for each Synthesizer, with their respective pre-selected presets. Is there a more practical and agile way to do this?
just curious.. can you play one note continuously and then adjust the settings of the instrument to change over time?
Yes, if you want to automate plugin parameters press the "configure" button on the device in Live's device view, then move the control you want to automate.
Hey, I got my vst I want scanned but there is no sound when I select it . Only when I use it on stand alone. Should I try reinstall the vst? I know I just installed ableton live 10 64 bit so can’t be that.
Help! Are there any tutorials on how to add an external VST effect to an external VST instrument? All I find are adding Ableton effects to external VST instrument, OR adding an external VST effect to an Ableton instrument. Both are super easy but no one has instructions on using VST effect on a VST instrument! I have one each on 2 separate tracks and try to run my VST instrument track to my VSt effect and tried every in /, channel, and out permutation, but nothing works. Thanks.
I'm not sure but i think i wanna do the same or almost,i only use one pluging but i wanna try some more and before getting em i wanna learn that for add effects. You tried to put both inside an instrument rack? I guess if they are on the same rack and chain,should work.
Edit: just remember maybe vst effect cant be dropped on instrument rack? Idk gotta do more research

Hello. I really appreciate the tutorial. I have downloaded and installed Helm VST and moved it to the VST folder in my MacBook. I have also configured Ableton preferences so that plug ins are sourced from the same VST folder where the Helm plug in is. After all this, when I click on plug-ins in my Ableton, nothing appears there... I wonder what may be the problem and how can I solve it. Hope you can help me with this...
Is it the 64 bit version of Helm?

I have been trying for daaays to get spitfire audio VST files to show up in ableton live 10 (on windows 10) and I just cannot seem to get it to work :( any help would be MUCH appreciated, i'm only just starting out and there's so much to figure out
Did you install the 64bit version? Did you go into the Ableton preferences and select the install location as the custom VST folder? Rescan your VSTs?

I think VSTs should work with the trial version. Did you set up the custom VST folder in preferences?

Using the steps I showed in this video you should be able to add any plugins. Just run the installer for Melda and make sure Ableton Live is pointing to the right folder.
Whenever I try to open the plugin it says "cannot find any instruments". What am I doing wrong?
I dont have that option to go to the plug-in preferences. I have Ableton Live and can't use any external vst, it must be different somehow, I tried to change the location many times and it didn't work. What could be wrong?

Help! I have my VSTs loaded into ableton. But when I drop VST effect to a midi track using either an Abletone core instrument or a VST instrument, the instrument just disappears and all I have is a VST effect on the track. I've watched 10 tutorials but none of them address this problem. They either talk about adding VSYs to your list, scanning them or messing around with them. No one talks about adding VST effects without deleting instruments and how to prevent it. Ive used the same VSTs in other DAWs without this happeneing. Good videos, but I cant find an answer to this basic issue. Thanks.
Sounds like a bug maybe. Try updating to the latest version of Ableton and your VSTs.
@@DJCouchKing Thanks, but I'm fully updated on everything. I just bought Ableton Live Lite 11 from the publisher last month (hence, I'm still just a beginner) and my VSTs in use too. Everything worked fine in Reaper, stacking several VST effects and are all 64-bit. I'll try a local company to walk through it. Thanks for your videos though! Good work all round.

Ableton Live 10 is only compatible with 64bit VST 2.0 and VST 3.0 plugins. If you're trying to use 32bit plugins it won't work without a wrapper or bridge. Which plugin are you trying to use?
@@DJCouchKing Same, i got a bunch of plugins i've used in fl that doesn't show up in ableton. Actually none of them show up.. I've tried to set the custom folder to all kind of different places.
I got a database error when selecting what folder to use

You can add plugins to Live Lite. It's a great way to get more instruments/FX before upgrading.
I installed the Plugin but i cant find it in Ableton.
Did you go into the preferences and choose the folder you installed it in?
Now it worked 👍 i had another folder but helm can only be installed in a folder with the name /Steinberg or something like that 😅
It needs to be installed on C:// and thats not good for the speed of the computer 😕
VST plugins are small. That shouldn't slow your computer down, especially if it has an SSD. Just don't install large instrument libraries for plugins like Kontakt on your C drive and you'll be good.

Is the track record armed? Is monitoring on auto? Is the headphone icon activated in the piano roll if you're using the mouse?
